I've been able to tether my laptop and other devices using Open Garden, even a Wii, but for some reason my Samsung HT-D5500 won't connect. It sees the network but refuses to connect. I tried with a key and without, neither works. Does anyone have any ideas?
Can you add the connection manually? That sometimes works when the clock method doesn't work.
I don't think it would allow me to, but I shall try when I get home. What other tethering apps might work better for this application? I tried Barnacle, and it failed also.
I checked out the manual...ad-hoc networks aren't supported, only infrastructure mode. Soooooo......how can I do that?
Router.

Hey guys when I use wireless tether whenever I set encryption and a password it won't show that the connection is secure when I try to connect. Anyone can connect to it, and it says "unsecured". I really don't like how other people can connect to my connection is there a fix for this?
I have the same issue, the encryption and password settings in the app seem to have no effect and anyone can connect. I have v1.6 running Fresh 1.1 rom.
What seems to work (prob not too secure though) is the access control function in the app, If you enable it and tether your desired PC(s) and check them off in the access control list, when a unrecognized PC connects you get a warning icon in the notification bar.
When I tested it the PC not checked in the access control list could not connect to the internet, even though it had a wireless connection to the phone. So it seems this may help prevent someone else from thethering to your phone.
Same issue here, never found a fix. Just been using Access Control...
You really just need to turn AC on. This way you have to give connections permission to connect. Its a known issue that the password protection is broken. - really kinda useless on an Ad-Hoc anyways, nativly not the most secure thing made.
Don't ask too much from the devs of that app, they have 5+ phones to support all with different issues/methods/kernels. I think its an excelent App for free.
I used Wireless Tether once before and it worked flawlessly. I then changed the SSID and passphrase and now it shows that i'm connected on my laptop, but it won't connect to the internet it takes forever to stop tething and stays running on the backround, so I deleted it. Where do find it to try and redownload it?

Make sure you download the 1.60 version
Go with v1.70-pre2, it resolves the overheating issue:

Nice! I was reluctant to try it, due to it saying it was for Donut.

I redownloaded and it still won't recognize my laptop, could it be that I am using a linksys card and don't have internal wireless? Is there a way to manually enter in a computer into the access control?
Does anyone else have this problem?
My laptop will stay connected for a maybe a minute at a time, sometimes just a few seconds and I have to reconnect. Under Wireless Network Connection, the network is listed as "On Demand", if that helps.
I've tried every version of "Wireless Tether for Root Users" I can find and they all have the same problem. Is there anyway to stay connected?
Is it possible that your computer won't let you connect to an Ad-hoc connection? Maybe as soon as it realizes what it's connecting to it jumps off?
Havent had a problem, are you using the administration portion of wireless thether, you might have to just confirm the connection on the phone and apply the settings, you should have a green sheild when on your phone when a allowed device is connected
As far as I know ad hoc networks are allowed, I am using windows xp.
I have access control on and my laptop is allowed and connects fine, it just will not stay connected.
I am using a Toshiba nb205 netbook with windows xp.
On the Choose a Wireless Network window, next to G1Tether it says "On Demand" instead of Manual or Automatic. I've never seen that before.
I'm using the internet fine, I just have to reconnect every 30 seconds or so. Perhaps my google skills are too weak, but I cannot find anything, any help is very much appreciated.
Can you connect to a wifi network from the phone and stay connected?

"On Demand" is normal for Ad-Hoc Networks.
I had the same problem after upgrading from fresh 1.0 to 1.1 w/ gk-31. I uninstalled wireless tether and reinstalled it from my mybackup pro app backup (the one I made before flashing the new Rom and kernel. Works just fine now.
If I'm not mistaken I believe flipz included a newer version of wireless tether, maybe the old one works better.
I just realized I assumed you are using freshrom...
Might try reinstalling it anyways, let us know how it works out.
Reinstalling didn't work. I'll try out some roms tonight and see if they work any better, thanks anyways
Old post I know, but just wanted to see if anyone had any more ideas here. I don't think it's an android app issue at all, but rather windows. I'll be cruising along the highway with a fine connection, but as soon as windows picks up a random access point, it will jump off my ad-hoc connection and try to connect to the other one. not cool.
Hey guys I installed Android Wifi Tether and it definitely works great however I seem to be missing features. I can only use WEP and not WPA passwords. When I switch for Auto to Galaxy S under device profile it opens up the stock Mobile AP nonsense and won't let me get rid of it. I have to reboot if I want to clear the Mobile AP. My MacBook Pro is able to connect and use the web however it recognizes it as a "device" and not a "Wifi Network". That may be nit picky but I can't tether with other devices like another mobile product or an Xbox or PS3. Anything? Thanks guys
Am I missing a setting somewhere?
Sprint HTC Arrive - Mango w/ the standard ROM (no custom ROM or Bootloader).
I'm at work where my 3G signal is sketchy in certain areas. Since it's a work laptop, I don't have the ability to install Zune. But I can set up my laptop with an ad-hoc wireless network (since I'm plugged in via ethernet). However, when I try to connect to the ad-hoc network with my phone, it doesn't see it even if I try to add it manually (I've done it with and without a security key).
Most of my searches came back with how to set up ICS which is the opposite direction of what I'm trying to do. I want to share my laptop's network connection with my phone (which I understand will be subjected to work's filters). So is there a way to make WP7 show hidden and/or ad-hoc wifi networks?
Thanks
I know on my buddies kindle fire, it will not allow him to connect to ad-hoc wifi networks (such as turning his phone into a wifi-hotspot). This is a horrible limitation and I don't understand it. I wonder if our phones have that same built in limitation.
I have a T-Mobile S7, using it in Europe with a Spanish SIM card.
Cannot get Hotspot to work. My Mac (10.11) sees the hotspot, can connect, but does not get an IP from the phone.
Any way to troubleshoot?
Anyone else got this set up working?
Maybe try a 3rd party app? There used to be one called FoxFi or something ...
Note: I am NOT rooted.
(I've tried with/without security, SSID broadcast, etc. Also disabled VPN adguards etc.)
Try pdanet. Haven't used that in ages but it was always reliable for me
