Does this work with the VZ 629 update? All I am hearing is that there is no way to root this new update.

No it will not

That is too bad, I am really mad that I accidentally hit the install update button. I couldn't stop it, took the battery out, but it still updated. Now I am screwed, it was really nice to have the tethering ability. I rarely used it, but it was helpful when I needed it, but not worth paying for.
Any suggestions? Are people working on cracking this 629? Should I buy an old phone and start over?

.629 is for d2g, it can be rooted, look in d2g development forum it's not pretty but it can be done

This looks useful. So will this protect root permissions through an official update? Do we just toggle off, run the update then toggle on?
The End.
Okay cool. I protected root. We will see when the update comes if it works. Thanks!
The End.

On Verizon correct??? There is no root method available for 4.1.1 yet. You will need to use mattlgroff's utility to return to 4.04. That can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1970267
-Choose option 1 and restore to 4.0.4.
-Once on 4.0.4 go to settings - about phone - system update and take the 6MB update
-Use the utility again and choose the root option
-Once rooted download and install Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper from the market or use the utility to install it for you.
-Open Voodoo app and protect root
-Temp unroot
-Take the JB OTA
-Open voodoo and restore root.

SuperOneClick and MTKDroidTool
Hi,
1) Root your device using SuperOneClick (You will need Windows) (You will find many sites about it)
2) Search and use MTKDroidTool. It`s the only tool I find that can backup and restore these roms. Rom Manager, Titan backup, CWM doesn`t work on these phones.
