Alright so I haven't seen anything cumulative about the whole leak, but I've seen a lot of people having trouble with this and whatnot so I figured I would accumulate all the stuff I've been reading into one post so people could have a quick reference with everything there instead of linking like 5 threads in order to figure something out.
First off, credits go out to all the other numberous threads explaining and describing difference parts of this process, this include the recent ones telling you how to get the su file, and some old old threads regarding how to use odin and whatnot. Again, I'm just putting it all in one place so somebody who needs a quick and dirty ICS flash + root can do it easily.
First thing you want is ODIN. This is basically a way of putting things onto your phone in a special way, I don't know much more technical detail behind it.
ODIN
Put that bad boy right on your desktop (or somewhere else where you will put all of this stuff for easy access). Extracting it would be a good idea too.
Now you want ICS, finally. You can hit up the direct download, or the torrent. For me, the torrent was faster, I averaged 1.2 MB/s and currently there's about 60 people connected to it, half of them seeding. Either one should work fine.
TORRENT FILE FOR ICS -- credit to R4INS I believe.
DIRECT DOWNLOAD FOR ICS --credit to where it's due, (Efan0388) according to where I found this.
Now once that is all finished downloading, you gotta put your device into download mode. Basically, turn it off. All the way off. Unplug it from the USB cable (if it was).
(1)Plug the USB into the computer, NOT YOUR PHONE.
(2)Push and hold both volume buttons, and a second later push and hold the power button, and a second later, stick that USB cable into your phone.
(3)It should give you a warning screen and say to hit volume up to continue, if so, hit volume up, you did it!
If you don't get that, try again. If you keep having trouble, there might be more specific instructions, but that is what has always worked for me.
Now that your phone is in download mode, double click on that ICS file thingy that you downloaded. A window thing should appear.
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
If it looks like that, then you're all set. Go for it. It will take a bit, go eat a sandwich or something, and when you come back your phone will be running ICS!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alright, now we got ICS. Time to root it. Credits go to starskyrob for this. His instructions are as follows:
Step 1: ODIN CWM
Step 2: Flash Attached zip from recovery.
Step 3: Reboot.
Click to collapse
Which is perfectly true, but I found it not as depth as I would have liked, so I will go into further detail here.
The way that we are going to root it is by using CWM and a special zip file that when you flash it through CWM will give you superuser (root).
But we don't have CWM, and we don't have root to install it anyway. This is where we turn to using that ODIN thing again.
Here are the two downloads:
CWM Recovery -- This is the CWM that everybody is saying you will need. (credits to Copperhed).
Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed -- This is the thing for rooting the phone. (credits to starskyrob)
Once you got those two guys downloaded, run that ODIN executable that you downloaded earlier, and put your phone back into download mode. Should look like...
Make sure the boxes are ticked off the same way. You also have to click on PDA and select the CWM zip that you downloaded earlier. Once that is set up, have at it. It should take like 5 seconds and boot your phone for you.
Once your phone is booted, make sure you put the Superuser zip onto your sdcard (internal, external, doesn't make a difference).
Now, turn your phone off. You're going to go into CWM Recovery mode now. This is done the same way as download mode, BUT YOU DON'T PLUG IN THE USB CABLE.
From CWM, you choose install zip from sdcard, find that superuser zip, and install. It takes a couple tries, for me it took three tries before it worked. But it does eventually work.
Reboot your phone, and congrats you have rooted ICS with superuser and all that good stuff.
Too bad I suck at formatting and stuff, so it may take me a couple minutes to figure this all out with embedding photos and links and whatnot.

If I'm not mistaken, you shouldn't have to press the "power" button to get into "download" mode. Just the Vol up & Down while plugging the cord to the phone on the I727.

1) download ics leak and make sure phone drivers are installed on your comp
After download is complete
2) plug in usb to comp without phone plugged in
3) pull battery on phone and then put it back in
4) hold vol + and - while plugging the other end of usb into phone. Stay holding vol + and - until download mode pops up on screen
5) make sure phone is recognized in odin com port
6) push start button in odin

I've always been pressing power and it's been working fine for me. Either works, I suppose. Also you need ODIN to get the CWM recovery bit working. I just wasn't sure if you needed it beforehand for the one click ICS (I didn't think so, but better safe than sorry, beecause I already had it on my computer when I ran it so I didn't know).

odin second image not showing. what should i tick off?
About getting into download mode. For me it doesn't matter where the cable is plugged into first. I always have it plugged into the phone first. Then hold the volume buttons and then plug it into the comp. Works just fine that way.
I have a case with a little cover over the port so it makes it a bit tricky to get the cable in for me. So I just do the reverse and it works just fine.

I'm glad you wrote this up. I performed root the exact same way. I still don't know anything about adb, sdk, shell, or whatever. But this way is truly rooting for dummies!, and totally without a PC. I also used rom manager to download my first rom that i flashed. But then downloaded a new one. I plan on using dcupdater for new updates.
This should be a sticky. Rooting for dummies! No PC required.
Sticky this for all of us root wanting fools that have no sense of adb.

Sure, here you go.
Woot, will be doing this soon.
I hope a 100% Senseless rom comes out.
Thanks for this method with all the images. But, I have been trying all night to gain root. First using Toast's version and adb, and now with your method on my sdcard. Using either method, I never get to a screen where I can choose to update, in step 2. I have the searching for PC36IMG.zip, with the blue progress bar, but it dumps me into this screen:
HBOOT
<VOL UP> to previous item
<VOL DOWN> to next item
<POWER> to select
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
CLEAR STORAGE
SIMLOCK
HBOOT USB
I've downloaded the file at least twice, but I get the same result. I also flashed the stock RUU between trying Toast's version with adb and yours from the sdcard.
Do you have any idea where I went wrong? Also, is your update.zip Clockwork? (Just curious.) I'm not a complete beginner at this, as I have a Hero and was able to flash custom ROMs to it...
Thanks for any help you can give.

This is happening to me too.. Though I think it's because I'm already rooted? I did go through Toast's method and looks like I'm rooted, wish there was a way to tell. Also If I load a ROM then check ROM manager to see which rom I'm currently running, nothing is there -just blank.
Settings, About phone, Software information will tell you if it is rooted. Look at build number, should be Fresh Evo 0.2 by flipz or whatever ROM you used.
Mine says Fresh Evo 0.2 but during the root process it skips [8] TP and bypasses [9] TP, wondering if something is wrong with the root process? Also my sd card seems to have lost all my backup data and when I connect to pc it says my card has issues. Do I have a problem?
Did it, worked 100% easy.
Thanks man.
Are you supposed to be able to open (explore) the PC36IMG.ZIP file through Windows? I have downloaded it 12 times from 4 different places and the message says the file is invalid. I haven't put it on my SD yet, this is just on my PC.
Edit: Well, I tried doing the update to root with the downloaded PC36IMG.ZIP file and all I get is a non-rooted wiped clean EVO after it does the update.
Can someone please download load PC36IMG file "now" (not try a previous version) and see if it corrupt and also see if you can open already downloaded one through windows as a zip file.
Thanks....

I think that's what I have too: "a non-rooted wiped clean Evo." I never had the prompt to say yes to update or yes to reboot. I'm not a total n00b at this. I was able to successfully root and put Fresh's ROM on my Hero. I thought maybe it was adb drivers, but I can use my Evo in disk mode, and run HTC Sync. (I have no use for HTC Sync.)
I'd love to try d/ling the file, but my dsl is down. I've spent the last 2 hours troubleshooting it and arguing with Qwest. They've finally agreed it might be their problem and are coming out to fix it. I NEED root so I can us WiFi tether!

no, just get into recovery, you don't have to flash the .img file
A few things.....
1) This is a ROOTED ROM method.
2) This is a DEODEXED version, originally derived from RaverX3X, dsexton702, samfirmware, and penguin0609's various postings.
Many thanks to RaverX3X, dsexton702, DrHonk, Krylon360, penguin0609, whitehawkx, and others for their work. If I missed your names, it's not on purpose, it's that I'm getting old....being in your 40's sucks sometimes.
This requires Heimdall. A link to Heimdall for Windows is here:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/az3ia99by9rgcdf/heimdall-suite-1.1.1-win32.zip
This is a Heimdall ONLY solution. You only need to unrar the link attached (yes, I use RAR. Sorry - but it's an all in one solution that allows me to manipulate RAR, ZIP, and TAR files.) into a directory. Get WinRAR (from rarlabs) to undo the file. MediaFire also has a 200mb limit - RAR gets me under that limit so I can get it to you all.
When unRAR'ing it, you will see 8 files and a folder. The folder contains the root_patch that is required to root the SGS4G.
This is a modification of what dsexton702 did. Steps are as follows:
1) Download the Heimdall suite file here:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/az3ia99by9rgcdf/heimdall-suite-1.1.1-win32.zip
Install Heimdall, including the drivers. Read the instructions included.
If you have Heimdall 1.1.1 installed already, skip step 1 and go to step 2
2) Download the ROM file here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?09ok3m4j0sqw8kt
3) Unzip the ROM file to a directory.
4) Open Heimdall
5) Match the filename to the PDA/Code location. In other words:
FactoryFS = factoryfs.rfs
Kernel = zimage
Param.lfs = param.lfs
Primary Bootloader = boot.bin
Secondary Bootloader = sbl.bin
cache = cache.rfs
Database = data.rfs
Modem = modem.bin
6) Put your SGS4G into download mode. Click Start. Wait until the green bar goes all the way across and it's done.
7) Reboot to Download mode again
8) Close and re-open Heimdall. Click and browse zImage to the directory "root_patch". Choose the zImage file there. Click Start.
9) Let the SGS4G go through the Fugu bootloop a couple of times. This is where your SGS4G gets Rooted.
10) Reboot to download mode once more. The standard download method should work with this.
11) Close and re-open Heimdall. Click and browse the ORIGINAL zImage (NOT THE ROOT_PATCH VERSION!!). Click start.
12) Let the unit flash, then reboot. Download busybox to verify Root.
I've done this a few times with my SGS4G. Let me know how this one works.
[Update notes]
- This may give you some fritzed up screens, then return to normal. I don't know why this is happening, but if you do get it, post it (and screen captures or vids) here and grab RacerX3X's attention to it. He needs to see some of it.
- This will give you root if you follow it.
- This should work with the STANDARD download mode method. If you find you are NOT able to get into the download mode with the normal method do this:
remove battery, start heimdall, insert USB cable, push vol down + home+power, then insert battery.
[Reserved for whatever....]
Positions of the various files. Your actual directory names will vary, but this is to give you an idea of what goes where.

There are a few ways to get download mode.
#1. when the phone is booted up with usb debugging on, use adb to send the following command "adb reboot download"
#2. power the phone off, hold volume up and volume down, don't touch the power button.... just plug the USB cable in.
let me know what happens.

Heimdall error..
I tried this method exactly by the directions and Heimdall keeps telling me
Bus:pen: Can not get ibus-daemon's address.
IBusInputContext::createInputContext: no connection to ibus-daemon
What am I doing wrong? I'm on Ubuntu 10.10. Heimdall worked fine with my Vibrant..I don't have any trouble getting into download mode..it just can't flash once I get there..adb even works..
I already updated my udev to include the SGSII4G
Any advice?
why the hell are you flashing KF1, it may brick your phone. Also this isn't the SGSII4g, it is the SGS4g, so if you have the wrong phone, then you will hard brick. If you have an sgs4g(SGH-t959V), then flash the Heimdall version of KJ6. Then flash the kernel by bhundven beta 3. This will give you CWM. Then flash valhalla, valhalla black, AOSP Style, or Octane 3.0. I recommend valhalla black or AOSP style.
This is why I was trying to get the mods to open up a leaked ROM section in the forums, that way we would have the official roms and leaked roms that would really only be temporary. If you guys could please contact the mods asking them for something similar we can avoid having newer users flash unstable roms.
good point.
We need to get all devs to do that.

Well, from the looks of things, it won't.
Lufc doesn't think it is a good idea, and that's pretty much that.
Maybe a better choice would be to compile a thread with all of the historical leaks and roms, and ask for the original threads to be deleted.
well, that just killed that.
Also, BD, do you think that the G1 will get Cm9?
Random question.
G1 took an hour to boot CM7. I doubt CM9

I GOT IT!!
does this need CWM or stock recovery
ok folk im on my second zeki. one the 1st one attempted to put CM9 on it after installing cwm. tablet booted to a sputtering white screen . i tlet the battery die then (vol - and power) to boot into recovery but encounter the same results. eventually the screen stopped coming on completly no matter what. I exchanged it at Sears for another.
Now without install CWM i attempted to do this market install. Similar result black screen and unresponsive. Are these things duds or did i miss something
worked for me
thanks man, it worked for me. this little tablet is great for the price. Too bad this is the only thread anywhere for the zeki.
Have to say this is a sweet little tablet for not much money. I had a little trouble flashing Google Play on, but it was my lack of familiarity with the device and nothing else. Here are some notes in case you need a little more detail than the OP furnished.
1. Charge and power up the device.
2. Install the apps per the leaflet that comes in the box.
3. Open the book reader app and spend a little time with the user manual. It helped me get familiar with some of the buttons and icons that differ on Android 4 from previous versions.
4. Insert a suitable micro SD card.
5. Go to Settings -> Storage and delete everything on the card to clean it up (if necessary).
6. Download the update.zip from the OP in this thread to whatever computer you're going to connect the device to.
7. Connect the USB cable. A USB Connected message should show up in the notification bar at the bottom and the USB symbol should appear.
8. Tap the USB symbol in the notification bar. A message should come up that asks if you want to turn on USB storage and explains that tapping the botton provided will let you copy files to the SD card.
9. As the OP says, two drives will appear. On my system, neither was identified as ZEKI, but one contains a folder named DCIM which is where the camera stores it's files on the SD card, so you know that's the right one. (You can check the properties of each if you want to to check overall size.) Copy the update.zip to the root of the drive with the DCIM folder.
10. You can then eject the device from the computer and let it remount the SD card.
11. On the device, go to Settings -> About Tablet -> Check for update -> Check Now and OK.
12. The device will restart in recov mode and you may see a path error scroll by at the bottom. In any case, the choices appear at the top and one will be to install the update from the SD card.
13. Use the volume rocker (up/down) to highlight that choice and tap the power button to select it.
14. At this point the device installed the update and rebooted.
When all was said and done, Google Play showed up in the app list and it even updated Flash and a couple other things. I used the same Google Account I have on my smartphone. I tried installing a couple of paid apps I have on my phone and it let me with no problem. I'm still playing, but it's pretty much all good so far. - MarkC
Thanks for the write up - I saw one of these at Kmart for $99 (also at sears) and thought it might be worth a try - they have a 30 day return anyways if it sucks.... Did anyone else get cm9 running on it?
Well - I went and bought one - looks waaay better than the 70's style Chino-clunker cheapies anyways. Went to best buy first to check out what they had (pantec and the supernova on sale for $150 (both the same price).. anyways here's what it looks like.

I'm itching to try a new rom on this thing, but not quite sure where to start - besides getting CMR on it first. Judging from the screen shot - does it look familiar to anything that might be compatible ROM wise?
I thought in the description on the Kmart site said that it charged through usb port, is the picture above the Zeki 7in tablet. Can you charge through usb? thanks
"Mini-USB port for battery recharge" -kmart
Charging options
The tablet comes with the wall plug with proprietary connection, but you should be able to use the USB cord attached to your computer as well. I have not tried this yet, but it is stated.
Yes - both ports show charging, but the manual recommends charging via the wall wart port.

Don't try it .The bootloader is lock. it will brick the table.
again for good measure dont attempt a rom install or even CWM install on this.
I've bricked 2 zeki tablets already.
in other news i gave up on this thing for now hoping a nexus tablet is really in the works. Would reather put $100 towards that.
Or if I can find a good deal on CL for a used kindle fire or nook color - lots of scam listings on CL for the kindle fire in particular.
Thanks for the additional , clear instructions. After three failed attempts it finally worked. For whatever reason I had to completely clean minisd card. Everything works great so no need to ROM !
efsres mifflin
The bootloader is NOT locked. I got CM9 installed on it, but the display drivers did not work. well the display worked, but no touch screen or rotation. I had to use a USB kb/mouse to use it.
I tried building a stock ROM through the extraction process, but never could get it to work properly. It would fully boot, but after about 10 minutes, the screen would always turn green and crash.
There are other threads, including disassembled photos of it on freaktab, but since I have not posted 10 times here, I cannot post the link.
Thank you very much it worked for the zeki , but when i go to Google play music or amazon music i am unable to play audio samples , but used pandora and that is able to work ... can someone help
I have tried this many times now and stil cannot get it to work. Google Play(market) and the other apps in the zip file do not automatically load after the update and if I try and load them manually from the zip file on the extsd card then the market will continually crash. Not sure what I am doing wrong and any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Disclaimer: I will not be held responsible for any damage to your device. You are following this tutorial at your own risk (not to discourage anyone, though as safe as this process maybe I will not take blame for anyone's bad luck). Optional: download the android SDK
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Some Common Knowledge
Stock Firmware: Is needed when you get your phone stuck in a boot-loop(not getting past the splash/start-up screen) OR if you're having trouble updating through OTA updates or Kies (I had my share of both)
Odin: Is used to Flash a stock/Official FW and in Galaxy R's case CWM as well
CWM: This is needed to back up your device's current FW and to install custom ROMs
Super User: This thing gives you root access
Custom ROMs: For when the stock FW seems too dull or when you need to tweak your device to your liking. For the sake of keeping this guide simple and "streamlined" this would not be discussed in this post
This Tutorial assumes that you have little or no knowledge on flashing/modifying your phone's OS/Firmware
Things you'll need:
1. Odin
2. CWM
3. Super User
4. Flashable ROM/Firmware available here Courtesy of The-Droidster
5. A FULLY CHARGED Galaxy R aka Royale aka Galaxy Z (aka Galaxy S2's adopted brother aka Loki Get it cuz it's low key )
6. A USB data cable
7. A PC (I'm using a windows PC)
8. Patience and time
For Personal ease keep all downloads in a separate folder dedicated for Android "Hacking"
STEP 1A: Downloading/installing Tools
Extract Odin
CWM DO NOT EXTRACT
From the link above download Super User shown here: DO NOT EXTRACT

STEP 1B: Downloading Firmware
Open the Official ROM link provided and choose the Firmware you like (Depending upon region/languages and OS version)
After Downloading the zip file extract it
You Should get either:
1. Three additional .tar/.tar.md5 files DO NOT EXTRACT THESE
OR
2. A single .tar/.tar.md5 file DO NOT EXTRACT THIS
The extracted files should look like this:
STEP 2: Set up
Turn off your FULLY CHARGED phone (It's better to have a fully charged phone but above 50% is good too)
Open Odin from the folder:
.
.
Allow it run:
.
.
Set it up like this making sure everything else is unchecked
.
.
Now put the phone in Download Mode. On your phone press and hold the volume down, home and power buttons as shown (power button last)
.
.
The following screen would appear:
Press the Volume up button (Because you're a bad ass!)
Now connect the USB data cable with the phone and computer
After a few minutes (of downloading the drivers) you should see this:
Now everything is setup and you can start flashing/Installing a Firmware
STEP 3: Flashing the phone.
As mentioned before you would have either 3 or just 1 .tar/.tar.md5 files from extracting the FW
Here is how you put the extracted files in Odin.
For three files
The file containing the word CODE goes in PDA
The file containing the word MODEM goes in PHONE
The file containing the word CSC goes in CSC
AS Shown here:
For a single .tar/ .tar.md5 file, place the file in the PDA
Click Start and wait for the Yellow rectangle to go green and you're done.
The phone will start automatically and take a few minutes on first boot (so be patient)
And you've Flashed your phone! Hoorah!
Now on to CWM and Root!
Place the Super User .zip file and the Custom ROM .zip in the internal SD of the phone (not the SD card)
STEP 4: Clockwork Recovery Mod aka CWM
Launch Odin, keeping the previous settings
Click the PDA button and open the CWM file: it should look like this
Turn off your phone
Put it in to Download Mode using the volume down, Home and Power Buttons.
Connect the device and PC
Be a Bad ass again!
Hit Start on Odin
Wait for Reboot! ....aaaaand then turn off!
Turn the device ON
After seeing the GalaxyR logo immediately hit the VOLUME UP and HOME buttons
If you see this:
Congratulations! You just installed CWM
STEP 5: Super User/Root access
Note: Recovery navigates using power up and down and to enter the power button
From the CWM select "Install zip from sdcard"
Look for the Super User .zip file and select it
Select yes to install
Reboot!
Now you would have a super user icon in your apps!
Congratulations! You just rooted your phone!

I even added pretty pictures
Very well written!
Good job buddy! This could just be the new one stop thread for flashing, rooting and installing cwm for Galaxy R!
However there are a few subtle changes that I would like to mention!
1. BEFORE YOU BEGIN
download the android SDK It is important for installing drivers and tools etc
Not so mandatory for the purpose of flashing and rooting! Drivers get installed automatically, when the device is connected to the PC(Be sure you have Internet connectivity just in case windows has to look up for updated drivers!)
2. Things you'll need:
1. Odin
2. CWM
Use this link for the CWM recovery! It has been optimised by Adam and does not need to be extracted!
As such make corrections here as well:
Extract Odin and CWM (DO NOT EXTRACT the zip folder inside the CWM)
From the link above download Super User shown here: DO NOT EXTRACT
3. STEP 1B: Downloading Firmware
Open the Official ROM link provided and choose the Firmware you like (Depending upon region/languages and OS version)
After Downloading the zip file extract it
You Should get three additional .zip/.tar/.rar files DO NOT EXTRACT THESE
The extracted files should look like this:
You are being very specific here! The 3 files format is not applicable to all ROM's for Galaxy R. Rather almost all the Stock ROM's come as a single *.tar or *.tar.md5 package that is directly loaded into the PDA section of ODIN! No other files are required!
So please make corrections at relevant places like here:As mentioned before you would have 3 .zip/.tar files from extracting the FW
Here is how you put the extracted files in Odin.
The file containing the word CODE goes in PDA
The file containing the word MODEM goes in PHONE
The file containing the word CSC goes in CSC
4. [*]Reboot! ....aaaaand then turn off!
Odin always Auto Reboots the device after flashing. So no need to manually do that.
5. Now the most important thing:
I recommend that you completely remove the section for flashing custom ROM's.
Reason: Each Custom ROM developer will have his/her own method of installing the ROM. Though most of it is generic, still there are quite a few steps that are different for each ROM. So the discussion regarding installing a custom ROm better be kept confined to the thread of that particular ROM. As such it would be wise to remove all references to Customs ROM's from the guide. Keep it focused on the three imp. things...which you already have done very well!:good:
Thnx!
Good Job

I am having KIES issues and was just in need of this "three-step" procedure for flashing stock and restoring CWM. (I'm not sure if I can flash stock through CWM, therefore I just overwrite CWM and redo the whole thing).
BR, Martin
By the way, there's a mistake in the OP.
You are writing "After seeing the GalaxyR logo immediately hit the VOLUME UP and POWER buttons"
which should say VOLUME UP and HOME buttons.
And tbh why bother to do this, if someone is already repacking every stock firmware with CWM? So that everything is done on automatic basic?

Ok I'm going to drop a tip to justin about this guide! Who knows maybe this becomes THE one stop thread for flashing replacing the current one!
But before that could you plz implement these few changes?
Things you'll need:
1. Odin
2. CWM
3. Super User
4. Flashable ROM/Firmware available here Courtesy of The-Droidster
5. Optional Custom ROM (Not Discussed in this post... sorry)

7. A USB data cable
8. A PC (I'm using a windows PC)
9. Patience and time
Extract Odin
CWM :DO NOT EXTRACT
From the link above download Super User shown here: DO NOT EXTRACT
Open the Official ROM link provided and choose the Firmware you like (Depending upon region/languages and OS version)
After Downloading the zip file extract it
You Should get
3 additional *.tar or *.tar.md5 files DO NOT EXTRACT THESE OR
Get a single *.tar or *.tar.md5 file DO NOT EXTRACT THIS
The extracted files should look like this:
STEP 3: Flashing the phone.
As mentioned before you would have either 3 or just 1 *.tar or *.tar.md5 files from extracting the FW
[*] For a single *.tar or *.tar.md5 file, place the file in the PDA

Actually I have stated here already :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1861954
The mmc_cap_erase bug can actually takes place at the very first time just after the device rebooted with ICS firmware. And if you just switch off the device after flashing the kernel in order to flash the CWM. There is a chance that your device is already bricked during this process. The only safe method to do this is to replace the recovery image inside the stock firmware with a secured CWM (which using a flawless kernel), such that you have a chance to immediately flash a kernel in CWM after the device rebooted.
When the device is rebooted automatically after using odin, it will get into recovery mode first before going any further, therefore no damage can be done as the device never booted with a flawed kernel.
Therefore the method OP mentioned is actually unsafe as well.
oh btw, it is funny to see how many people that are using Galaxy tab 10.1 have bricked their device after updating to ICS 4.0.4, it seems like none of their users / devs have found that MMC_CAP_ERASE is enabled on their device as well lol But I guess I will just make a thread in a minute or so to get them noticed.
When the device is rebooted automatically after using odin, it will get into recovery mode first before going any further, therefore no damage can be done as the device never booted with a flawed kernel.

Oh well! I think now I understand what u r trying to convey. I found it a bit difficult to understand by reading the original thread that you created.
So what you are trying to say is:
After flashing the repacked ROM that you have provided via ODIN, the device won't boot into the OS! Rather it would boot directly into CWM that you have packed into the ROM. This way you can flash a secure kernel before the first boot itself! So there's no risk of bricking bcoz the Stock kernel won't ever be loaded! Ingenious my boy! Great!:good: How long have you been playing around with this?
Having said that, the guide the OP has posted is not only about flashing ICS ROM's but also for GB ROM's. What the OP can do is add an exception for ICS ROM's and a link to your repacked ROM would fit in well I guess!

Caution when modifying your phone, although you can revert 99% of issues you may come across, be cautious.
I take no credit other than compiling info and making a guide. All credit goes to http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4911585 (br3w3r, Chainfire and Princecomsy)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s7/how-to/g935a-root-t3410403
Well, root has been achieved on all of the variants. All the information is spread, therefore I will compile it.
It is confirmed working for the G935T/A/ (All firmwares so far) can anyone verify it works for Verizon?

MAKE SURE TO BACKUP YOUR PHONE, YOU MAY NEED TO FACTORY RESET AFTER FLASHING THE ENGBOOT FILE. ( MAY BE FOR THOSE WHO HAVE DISABLED SYSTEM APPS)
1- Put your device in to download mode ( Power off--- Hold Down arrow + Home + Power button)
2-Open the provided ODIN and where it says "AP" select and open the file "Samsung_G935x_QC_Rooted_BOOT.TAR" -- FLASH it--
3- The phone should now reboot
Installing SuperSU
easiest way to put it for flashing su.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLvRuzQMPLk
1- make sure you have the adb toolkit installed( place it in the root of the "C:/" drive. Mine is "C:/adb"
2- place the superuser folder you downloaded in to c:/adb and rename it "super" to make things easier
3- open the command prompt. Either search for it or press windows key + r and type in "cmd"
4- once cmd is open, navigate to the "super" folder. To do so type cd c:/ , then type cd adb and finally type cd super
5- type in root.bat
You should now be rooted.
To remove the security warning, use a package disabler like titanium backup and disable SecurityLogAgent
NOTE
For those having lag, heat, and battery drain issues. Try doing this.
I had those issues on PD6.
What I did was, ODIN'd a factory PD8 file and rerooted, then I used KERNEL TOOLKIT and changed to the ONDEMAND Governor, next I increased the CPU(small cores / and large cores) to max FREQUENCY allowed and reduced the min core frequencies to the lowest setting. Be sure to apply settings on boot so they stick.
The phone is very fast now.
I disabled the KNOX packages and tmobile package.
It fixed 95% of my issues, im even running xposed
For anyone that needs the complete firmware from Sammobile:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G935T/
I also attached the root files necessary in the zip file here.
BUT... you also need to unrar it. Stinking forum set the zip limit to 20MB for zip files but it zips to about 23MB.
Rar limit is 8MB but in a rar it was reduced to about 18. So... rar'ed it up, hid it in a zip.
Will this work on PC8? That's the one I'm on.

No guts, no glory. Try it and let us know. Root hasn't been out but for a couple of hours so it's hard to know for sure. Make a backup with Smart Switch and try it out! My guess is that you shouldn't have any issue.
If anyone has disabled any of their apps, make sure you re-enable them.
If you get stuck at the white T-Mobile screen for longer than 5 minutes then reboot back to stock recovery and factory reset. Sucks... but some of us had to do it. Afterwards, it should boot fine.
By the way... HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!

How would I boot back to stock recovery?
Sent from my HTC 10 using XDA Free mobile app
That's for compiling the info.
Might be a good idea to add a list of builds it's been confirmed working on.

Switch your Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 edge completely.
Boot into Galaxy S7 recovery mode by pressing and holding Volume Down, Home and Power keys at the same time.
Release all three buttons when Samsung Galaxy S7 screen flickers and you see a warning sign.
Press Volume Up to continue to the main screen of Recovery mode. Or, press Volume Down if you aren’t sure and want to go back to the normal mode.
That’s just about it!

Yes, specifically the root.bat is Windows based, but you could read the .bat and figure out how to do it in linux. Either way, yes.
Worked flawlessly with the guide. Thanks for compiling it
Edit/Update:
I am getting the same lag that others have reported previously. One thing I'm seeing that stands out in logcat is Secure Storage Daemon throwing warnings and then an error "Kernal binary has been changed. Please use the same version of platform/kernel binaries"

So just followed the guide? Do I need anything else? I just follow the guide and download what the guide says? Do I need to turn my phone off? Do I need a specific app on my phone for anything? Sorry for the questions

If you follow the guide, you'll have everything you need and there wouldn't be any questions needed.
I guess more specific to ask, where are you getting hung up?
On a windows machine:
Download all the files listed and get them installed
Follow the instructions (boot phone into download mode, put adb folder into c:\, rename the SuperSU folder from the zip archive to "super" for easy access, execute the cd's and then execute root.bat)

It's in the guide.
Please just read the guide and understand it before you move forward. Ask what you don't understand from the guide so that the writer could make it more clear if it's needed. But what you just asked is literally written clearly with what to do.
Damn can't wait to do this and install xposed only got another hour left
