Leaked ICS: Is it worth installing? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Leaked ICS: Is it worth installing? It's looking pretty darn buggy. Is it that good that the bugs are worth it?
.

I think you might be able to find something in the ICS threads below...

What bugs? Works great for me...

Try it for yourself. Many of us have managed to install it with little to no issues.

Definitely worth it.
After a few factory resets, I have absolutely no bugs whatsoever.

No bugs here.

Why do you feel the need to contribute to a thread that you find redundant and super annoying? How can you possibly rationalize that?
Sticking on topic: My thread was to specifically compare the costs and benefits of trying the leaked ICS versus staying with a highly stable build.

ICS works fine just dont hold the phone neer your ear. The little green men will crawl in your brain.

What bugs?
I reverted to 100% stock (KJ2), including reflashing the KJ2 modem (which is not detailed in the main "Return to stock" thread) and then did the ICS update last night and there are 0 problems! Is it worth it??? HELL YES!!! ICS is SOO much better! Faster, better battery and I actually love the new Samsung TouchWiz updates. It's much better than I expected actually!

Works perfectly for me. I think it is worth installing, but TouchWiz still sucks. I recommend installing either nova Launcher or Apex Launcher

LTE
everything seems fine. I just got my skyrocket today, but I lost my LTE connection. is this normal?

While you in fact continue to add to the clutter....
Complaining within a thread is not going to somehow make things better. Leave the policing to the mods. If I step out of line, fine. I'm reasonable and will listen.
But if you'd like me to abide by the very rules you're scolding me on, look above in this thread and see that everything you said has already been said. That should tell you that your post was not necessary, just adding to the clutter.

[Q] ICS ROMs on Charge

Since we can't use a ROM manager to flash, does anyone know of any of the developers having a "md5" file available to be flashed with Odin?
MD5 is just a hash used as to check data errors - basically to make sure you're not flashing an incomplete or corrupted file. I gather you're asking if there is an Android 4.0 based ROM that can be flashed on our phones? The answer is no. It's being worked on, but currently the best you can do is to make sure you're on the most up to date release for the Charge (EP4D) and then flash an ICS theme and then change launchers to ADW or Go Launcher and install an ICS theme for the launcher.
Thanks for the information. That's what I figured but I was trying to be optimistic. I am currently running Humble 5.0 and it has been great. I have the inability to stay stock and am looking forward to having ICS. Especially since I am so far out for an upgrade and don't have copious amounts of cash lying around to buy a Nexus out of contract. Thanks again, I appreciate it.

Just keep in mind, "being worked on" means there is an attempt being made to get it booting. IF that happens (which is by no means a guarantee), there is still a lot of work to do to make it fully functional. I wouldn't expect to ever have ICS. If we do, that's awesome. Just don't expect it.

This isn't going to end well, so lets nip it in the bud now. As is probably on all the forums there is no most/best/awesomemest etc. Its all subjective on what a person likes or dislikes does or doesn't do. I can say black ice, but the next person says AR, then the next says something else until you essentially have all the roms listed from the Dev section.

You don't even have to read a lot of posts, you read maybe one or two pages at the most and you'll find out, for instance absolution(the only Rom I use on my inspire) is extremely stable for me and is perfect for my needs but it may not be the same for you it may not work for you, you may prefer sense, so really its all personal preference. Threads like these get closed all the time because they're unnecessary since most of the roms in this forumare plenty stable except the ones that say they are betas and have things that don't work. There is that a good enough answer for you? Because that's exactly what that picture says. A picture is worth a thousand words.

I guess maybe you guys have more going on here with your roms then the epic touch community has atm.. there are probably 3 or four roms that ppl would agree on being the more stable and bug free roms....that may not be the case here, but like I said im out on vacation and was just hoping for a way to find something to fix my nieces phone before I head out home tomorrow. Either way I looks I'll just have do some searching of my own when I get back from the beach....best regards and sorry for being that guy to post a subjective question

Best ROMs are subjective, try them on for size and make your own decision.

Rating ROM functionality

I was wondering if anyone would find it useful if we had a rating system for ROM functionality so people could have a better understanding of what they are getting into before they flash. Too many times reading post about new ROM's it appears that all is working then much later posts start showing up talking about missing stuff like bluetooth, BLN, no LTE etc. I was thinking it would be awesome for ROM's to be rated to save headaches. These ICS leaks are hardly ready for primetime when compared to GBread.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA
Man you new guys really hate reading don't you normally when bugs arise they are in the op if its not in the op then 1 its common problem shared by all roms of that version or user error and with a spike in you new guys most of its user error you don't need a rating system you need to rtfm
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
I have no problem reading through hundreds of posts to see if something is missing or broken, I have read post where everything seemed to be okay only to find out the people posting had no use for LTE in their area and so it was not a concern for them. Whereas for me that was huge. My post was just a question that all don't need all that rtfm.

Sorry I'm with nrm on this one. Flashing roms and having bugs comes with the territory. You can't expect to flash it and have it work perfectly, you should be willing to troubleshoot and solve problems. If not, then u honestly shouldn't be flashing custom roms in the first place.

If someone is having an LTE issue wouldn't that more of a radio than rom thing?
You can't always pin issues to the ROM. Issues seem to stem from installation procedures or from certain apps that are restored. Not to mention some apps just don't play well with ICS.
Lots of variables and as said, actual bug issues are listed in the thread.

Not really. Pricks like him are abundant on forums, even the respected forums here on XDA. Still, just saying "what isn't working now will work" is not enough. With those broken features working, could devs be motivated to step up custom scripts and mods that go beyond even what's available now?

Respected forums? Xda? Maybe like before Android, not anymore now.
A lot of people are just disappointed with the same questions being asked like 5 times when you could just click a page or 2 back and see the same topic already discussed.
We just need an active moderator for these forums to merge the redundant topics together.

I don't know, I got my ass warmed for spamming, but then they hired me to spam professionally. I'm not trying to start anything, mt3g we've been down that road, accomplished nothing. Anyhow, my question is, and I understand basically, but why do you guys worry so much about people starting new threads? Its not using any storage space that would affect any of us. When a new thread is started, no matter if there's a thousand just like it, it promotes social gathering and in most cases, usefull information. But(never start a sentence with this), when you guys run your cruisers down here and go Gestapo on the op's, that's even more useless than the duplicate thread. Now, instead of a duplicate thread with new and useful information, its a duplicate thread with new and useful information that's been cluttered by flamers and rent-a-thread cops. Does it make sense? I'm really trying to be professional here, but guys, listen, I was a mod for 2 forums prior to working for XDA and I'm gonna tell ya, playing forum God got old within 5 minutes. You don't know our mods are not active, I got disciplined when I screwed up. Maybe you're wrong about starting new threads?Buru, I really respect you and your work and I really don't like disagreeing with you. I hope that I don't jeopardize our getting along. It just needs to be said that there are as many people fed up with the vigilante moderating, if not more, than those fed up with duplicate thread starters. Look at it like this, has any of the thread copping payed off? No. Did anyone active in thread copping become mod or get hired? No. Now, do I really need to say anymore? Just look at all I just cluttered this thread up with.......... thread copping........, unproductive. If you disagree with me, that is your right if you live in the united states, this is XDA, I don't care if you disagree with me, you don't have XDA signing your checks.
[email protected]
And I could care less if they do sign yours, I'm not trying to mod or be a cop, I would like to come to a forum that I enjoyed for about 3-4 years until lately. This is the sloppiest and most unorganized phone e section I've read... the MyTouch 3G and G1 are still modded it seems, the O2X is incredibly controlled... the tempo and mood would be a lot better and here from a lot of members some would stick around and others wouldn't leave. I'm surprised whitehawkX came back and EaglesBlood is still here... if I'm that big of a problem the mods will come and say something to me and I will behave but until then.... deal with me I guess.

How did you get any of that from what I said? Quote specifically please, and I will reiterate what was confused... I would never want that! That's the only reason I'm still with the g2x, I'm saying the repetitiveness of useless threads ("how do you update baseband, and how come I hear these noises when I call someone after installing this rom, I'm coming from 2.3.4 I received yesterday.") anything of that nature is what's wrong with this forum.

I'm coming to the G2x from a few other Android phones (LG Optimus V & Motorola Triumph) and it was hard to find the relevant and important info here even though I've written guides & developed for other Android phones before.
There's no need to depend on moderators, just a default thread to point everyone to with a FAQ section (maybe eventually sticky it or put it on the top of the stickied thread). Then it should be updated regularly by a person with good writing skills. or even a wikipage on github that a select few can update so the burden isn't on one person. Anyway I know it's towards the end of the G2x's lifecycle (until official ICS maybe), so none of this may matter, but just suggesting for future reference. Good, clean, & simple documentation prevents a lot of repeated questions.

The official Orthus Rom Discussion thread.

OK this thread is for the discussion of orthus ROMs. So no matter what version of orthus you may be running all discussions go here. I start this thread with mindmajics approval so that we may clear the ROM thread of discussions and questions. Majic will of course use the ROM thread to announce updates and such but all other comments or questions go in this ROM thread. Now let me say that the same rules apply to this thread as did the ROM thread and they are as follows.
1. Be nice and considerate to others.
2. No flaming unless majic sees fit after all it his rom.
3. Never under any circumstances disrespect the dev which is majic. Our devs work hard for us to enjoy custom ROMs with no pay. They take their time to do this so at the very least we could be kind and considerate.
4. With that said if you have a problem with the ROM post your problem without placing blame and either majic or some of us who have run this ROM since day one will do our best to help you in anyway we can.
5. If you have solved a problem you found please post your solution. It just might help someone else having the same issue.
Majic has worked hard to make this a great ROM so let's do all we can to help him make it even greater. I really hope we can all work together and solve any issues anyone is having with this ROM.
Before you post anything about having a problem please make sure you have followed the exact directions majic gave for installing the ROM. Also make sure to be as detailed as possible about your problem. The more info you give the more likely you are to get a solution to your problem. Also make sure you have read the whole ROM thread because chances are there may already be a solution to whatever problem you are having.
Well I think I covered everything. Majic if I've left anything out please let me know. I decided to put this in the general section due to it being a discussion thread even though we will be answering questions when we can. So let's make orthrus even better. Also feel free to post battery times but please include the screen time on pic with battery time pic and also which launcher you are using whether its touchwiz, xperia, or one from the play store.
Alright let the discussion begin....
All further ROM updates can be found over at rootzwiki... here is the link
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/35685-rom-orthus-six-102612/
This discussion thread will remain open but the ROM thread here on XDA will be locked. Any questions, comments, or discussion will answered here. Also any problems may be discussed here or over at rootzwiki.... Hope you all continue to use this ROM and not let the change of venue effect that. I will continue to help majic answer any questions or solve any problem my limited knowledge allows lol....

Yes the ROM thread was getting crowded and beginning to be very hard for majic to keep up with so we talked and this is the solution lol...
I can't wait for the next version either. With each version this ROM gets better and better. Majic has became one helluva dev...

Orthos 4 has been a little bit of a downgrade from 3 for me. I've already had two lockups using Chrome (which may be the problem instead of the ROM) when I had 0 lockups on 3. Battery life has been just as good and everything is running smoothly minus the 2 hiccups. This is the 1st Orthos update I've done a full wipe for if that matters.
I also have some battery screens to post when I get home of my cycle running the xperia launcher. It seemed to perform close to Apex but since I was on data for longer than normal it's hard to tell.
Hi guys so based on Mind wanting to change the default launchers, I've bumped into the following:
Lightning Launcher
Trebuchet Launcher (CM9)
Holo Launcher
Nemus Launcher
Smart Launcher
Apex Launcher
Now please keep in mind these are just options that looked good to me, but I have yet to use any of them. Just wondering if anyone else might know of some great launchers out there either available from the market or even from other phones for example the xperia launcher or even the sense launcher from HTC phones.
Some Launchers that I have used previously
SIII TW Launcher (Used it with Embryo)
Go Launcher (Used to swear by this group of devs then they started to produce ****. Go SMS was great as well until they decided to only be able to do SMS+MMS backups to their cloud)
Launcher Pro (Was great up to a little before the paid version of the app was released. Then it got way too bloated and bogged down performance of my phone.)

Myself I either use touchwiz launcher or apex. I have used go until they screwed it up with the updates. I've used adw but really didn't like it either.

I do have a suggestion you can think on as well. How about adding the gallery from the xperia to go with the launcher? Just a thought

You know what I do kind of agree here but I like Orthrus. Might give Xperiance a go later but I thought that this is what Mind was trying to do here. To create a impressively customizable rom that had a ton of kick and stability with the battery life being icing on the cake. Correct me if I am wrong but that's just the vibe I got...

Yup
Orthus is meant to be more of a pure AOKP with battery tweaks, alternative launchers, and additional customization options. Lean and mean. I love the Sony album though

Haha! I thought I was the only one this anal about grammar and spelling!
I liked ADW Launcher until ics came out, then I went to the paid version of apex because it just worked better. Haven't looked back and I own the pro version of adw too. I'm now using Nova because it was 25 cents on the play store for a while and, I must say, the paid version is awesome as it does backups of your homescreens which include widgets. This is something Apex has yet to incorporate. I realize that Majick could not include the paid version of any launcher due to the pirating issue, but I highly recommend buying nova if you flash a lot of ROMs like myself. Makes setup across ROMs much less time consuming.
Launcher Pro was really good for a while, but I believe the development hasn't released an update for a really long time and people were saying that it wasn't compatible with ics so I doubt it would play well with the almighty Orthus.
Holo launcher is nice. It was bundled in with one of the ROMs I flashed. It's pretty snappy but, since I have the paid version of apex and nova, I left it for them.
Just my two cents.

I'm so used to people spelling my name "John" when it's really "Jon" that any misspelling or grammatical errors as totally lost on me.
Even my username is a deliberate misspelling of the word "magic". Alexander Crowley deliberately misspelled the original word to "magick" so he could differentiate his meaning from the original meaning. And of course my version is deliberately misspelled because I mean something different too lol
Follow? Aren't words fun?
