Phone keeps shutting off needs battery popped out to start - T-Mobile LG G2x

I will put my phone in my pocket and pull it out a few minutes later and it is off and holding down the power button wont start it. I need to pop the battery out in order for it start again. The battery gauge is full.
Sometimes when I'm on wifi and need to get off and use my phones internet, the data wont work unless I put my phone in airplane mode and then out of 1-3 times.

We need to know what ROM you're on, what kernel, any overclocking or under-volting and any tweaks you've applied to the system.

CM7 rom and kernel. July 15th baseband. No tweaks.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium

Try a new kernel Besides OC/UV is your friend.

I've been getting that and random restarts with cm7.2 RC1 at seemingly random times. Didn't really happen with nightlies.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA

I'm not using the 7.2, I'm using the 7.1. I agree, the nightlies were better! I actually just recently had to wipe and redo everything. I charged my phone over night one time woke up and under plugged it and it shut off. I turned it back on and the battery said 1%. I was confused so I rebooted hoping that would fix the issue but it just moved it to 5%. It kept rebooting and I was at the point where I had to put it down or it would of ended up in a million little pieces!
I wiped everything and here we go with more problems!
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium

If you're that frustrated, use EB, no problems here with Faux's OC/UV kernel.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA

Sorry man, but there's no real fix for this. The G2x is defective like that.
I've tried them all, and it happens on all ROM's/kernels.
But if you go to settings>applications>development, select the "Stay Awake" option.
After checking that it never happens to me anymore. But that down part is that when you charge your phone you have to manually lock it. In other words, you can't just leave your phone idle while the screen is on. Otherwise it'll stay on the whole time. So just lock it every time you plug it in to charge.

Stay awake only happens when it's charging. Since I'm sure the op doesn't have a charger in their pocket I'm sure it won't help

Try flashing a kernel that allows undervolting and do the opposite, ADD +25mv or +50mv across the board and see if that helps with the reboots and freezing.

I have the exact same problem, and I am already using the "Stay Awake" trick for the SOD on the charger issue (doesn't help with the SOD pocket issue), this just started within the last 2 months.
Running
Hellfire 1.9
Kernel 2.6.32.51 -CM7 -Faux 123-048
very frustrating

Try adding like +25 or +50mv across the board on the kernel.
That sounds like your lowest few voltages are causing SOD's got your phone, not all chips are created equal

Thank you chris! Wasn't as straight forward as a i thought it would be lol I had to open my terminal and remount the system as read/write and copy the file to /mnt/emmc/ Cuz apparently when you download the file straight to your phone, it stores it in the download folder on your external sdcard. Clockworkmod works off of the /mnt/emmc/ directory aka internal storage.

it seems like your using an older version of CWM
if you want try updating to the newest, just do a search for it in the android development section. flash it using NVflash.
that way if you need to use it later for something you can access both internal and external at the same time

No problem. Yea you should try to update to a newer version of cwm which supports internal and external storage. Try nvflash, it's super easy.
Sent from my LG-P999

Yeah I know its easy. I rooted my G2x using NVFlash with Linux on the first try. Thanks again guys.
Found a link for the newest version http://www.mediafire.com/?o76p7qo4qrvu7bw but it say the old backups will no longer be compatable. Read more here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1566681
File bricked my phone.
I feel so damn dumb! The flash-recovery.sh file for linux isnt missing a file. Its not named properly. The bash script looks for cwm-su660.img but it is named recovery-p999-5.0.2.8.img So the flasher cant find it and shows an error. This will cause problems and brick your phone like it did mine!
I renamed the file and it flashed properly but CWM is the same version and not updated.
Here is a working CWM v5.0.2.7 i made. I took my old CWM and found a working up-to-date CWM image and tweaked the file http://www.4shared.com/zip/9h4mmcSp/nvflash-CWM_Recovery-5027.html
I am now rocking the new CWM its so much better! I can install zips from internal and external storage just like Klathmon said.

[Q] Question to [airfluip1]

I Downloaded and installed your rom from HERE using rom manager, And I'm not sure what I did wrong but when I turn on my phone it goes to Phone Logo screen (first screen) then all black with a corrupted blue lines at the bottom about half an inch long. Then, a couple seconds later it goes to a full corrupted screen. then it just does everything repeatedly.
Sorry I can't take screen shots since my phone doesn't work. But any idea of what I might of done wrong?
My phone is already rooted and CwM was already installed. Not sure if the installation process was messed up or not. And I can't get my phone into the CwM recovery to fix this problem.

There are a bunch of threads and a sticky! (2nd topic in the Dev Forum) that state Rom Manager does not work with this phone. That is what you did wrong.
you should have flashed the rom in CWM, but since the damage is done, you will have to get the phone in download mode and use ODIN to flash a new rom and start over again.
Hopefully, you can still get in DL mode by holding both volume buttons at the same time and inserting the USB cable.
use FB's starter pack post for the files you need for ODIN, and don't use Rom Manager anymore!

That's another download mode screen. The previous screen you described sounds like you didn't have the right boot loaders in place. Check out The KJ6 Heimdall One-Click Collection. Select any of the three of those you want to use, and follow Bhundven's instructions (really easy). All you need to have installed previously is Java.

The recovery file on Froyo is located in /system/bin. On my Gingerbread ROM it's found under /sbin. I believe it needs supporting files, though, so even though it's in /sbin on GB I can't say whether you'd be hosed or not.
Regardless, why would you want to format /system anyway? You might as well just flash a new ROM, eh?
/scratches head...why would you want to do that? I don't think you would lose CWM but I do know that doing a data wipe would probably be potentially less destructive if you are having issues and you definitely would not lose CWM.

[Q] Getting my hands on a bricked g2x today....

he said he bricked it trying to upgrade to ICS.
is the sticky at the top still the way to unbrick it? i noticed that a couple links were dead in the first post. granted i didn't go through all 17 pages, just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything newer then whats already been posted.
edit: he did say that the screen is showing s/w if that matters
Was it bricked by flashing a o2x rom? I think that may be the hardest brick I have heard of but still fixable. I believe if that is the case than following the sticky should restore the baseband and everything else.
Honestly though I would first try just reflashing CWM via nvflash, boot into recovery and load a stable GB rom. If that works, great.

You apparently you did not even read the first post. XP only, will not work with Windows 7.
"As many have stated, pushing the v21E_00.kdz via the KDZ_FW_UPD program does work. It's just touchy.
This is a step by step guide to get you back in to working shape.
Note: You MUST do this via a PC running Windows XP. Running Vista/7 in compatibility mode is not going to work, period.
Edit: As an alternative, a virtual environment running XP will do the job. Those steps are up to you."
That's not true. I updated the baseband using win7 on my first try. No need for comparability mode.

Part 1: Download the files you will need below.
V21E_00.kdz
KDZ_FW_UPD_EN
One-Click-G2x-recovery-flasher-06-16.rar
LG USB Drivers G2x
Part 2:
1) Install the LG G2x USB drivers to your WinXP machine.
2) Extract the entire contents of the One-Click recovery in to a folder and keep it handy.
3) Remove the battery from the phone. Hold both volume buttons and plug in the USB cable. If you are asked for a driver, look in the APX folder where you extracted the One-Click recovery archive.
4) Run OneClickRecoveryFlasher.exe and flash the stock recovery. Wait for the process to finish and close all windows and unplug the phone.
no problems with above steps. after that nothing works. when i put the battery back in and turn on thats when i get the flashing black screen, not back to the s/w screen.
5) Put the battery back into the phone and turn it on. You will be back at the S/W Upgrade screen. This is where you want to be! Now plug the USB cable back in to the phone. If everything is up to snuff you should have no driver problems at this point.
6) Extract KDZ_FW_UPD_EN.7z in to a folder. Inside is a msxml.msi. You need to run and install this first!
7) Run KDZ_FW_UPD.exe.. Leave the type set to CDMA and the phone mode set to DIAG. DO NOT CLICK ON "Read phone information"
8) Click the folder icon and load the V21E_00.kdz
9) Click launch software update (and pray!)
ok just for craps and giggles i tried booting into recovery and actually got the box with arrow and android! but it then reboots back to the lg screen and then flashing black screen

A CM nightly can be stable too, however I would flash either Weapon or Eagles Blood for a couple of days to have a piece of mind that everything is working cool. The most important would be a proper full wipe (cache, dalvik, system under mounts and storage, battery stats and imho internal and external SD too) too get rid of the previous mess caused by the unsuccessful flash, etc.

[Q] Superoneclick (all versions) causing HDD to run at 100% (window 8)

I am trying to root my G2x running 2.2.2 so I can use my computer to control it while I wait for a digitizer replacement. I have downloaded android SDK manager, Android Screencast, and multiple versions of superoneclick.
Now everything has gone according to plan, until I try to open superoneclick. at first the computer acts as it would normally when it opens a program. but the program never opens. So after a minute or so my computer was operating at a snails pace. so i opened task manager and my HDD was running at 100% which is obviously bad, considering my computer usually operates under 20%.
The instant I end the superoneclick task, my HDD drops back down to normal. And this happens every time I try to run superoneclick.
I was wondering if anyone has experienced this before, and if there is a solution or if im doing something wrong.
As far as i know the only way to root this phone is to flash a rooted rom via clockworkmod which needs to be installed via NVFlash.

It's just the touch function, the bottom inch of screen works. and the top centimeter or so works, but the middle of the screen has no touch function. the phones in great cosmetic condition, but something happened and the charge flex cable died so i replaced that. But when it booted up for the first time in a year or so that section of the touch screen I mentioned didnt work. Oh, and I know me replacing the flex cable didnt cause the screen to go out because it was like that before.
The new digitizer should be in tomorrow. And i'm about to try what you suggested, and then ill come back and report. Thank you.
I rooted my phone by flashing cwm via nvflash and then flashed a g2x root.zip file. The zip file can be found in one of the stickies, if you can't find it and want it let me know and ill get it to you
