Is this phone with official ICS really faster than Galaxy Nexus? - HTC Sensation

After upgrading my HTC Sensation with the Official ICS update, Quadrant Standard gives the now ICS HTC Sensation phone a higher score than Galaxy Nexus.
Can this really be true? And why is the score higher?
HTC Sensation has a dualcore CPU why does Quadrant Standard(The latest version) still claim the phone is only single core?

Quadrant shouldn't be used as a definitive way to compare devices to one-another. There are many factors that can change a device's score; it isn't the best way to gauge a device's capabilities.
On the other hand, there are ICS kernels for sensation that will push your CPU clock speed to 1.51 and beyond, so compared to a stock Galaxy Nexus, I could believe a modified and overclocked Sensation could beat it out.

This is true. With the Sensation being pushed to its limits and kernels maxing out the dual cores i def would have to say the Sensation is the Lamborghini versus the nexus as the corvette.

I have inspected Quadrant's device information. I see that it says there is 1 available CPU core in the device and 2 available CPU cores for Java. Not sure why.

Seeing as you're overclocked it's no wonder you're quicker than the Nexus...Nexus is 1.2GHz stock, you're 1.6GHz
Both stock, the Sensation gets pretty much identical scores as the Nexus

I was pointing that out earlier. Overclocked, there's no comparison. I'm actually at 1.7, the CPU didn't have enough demand at the time so it dropped a bit to 1.6

ok, forget benchmarks.....I tried a nexus....is sooo laggy, slow...not even smooth...
my sensation with 1.5 kernel is very much better...I think better than galaxy note, too, that now is the best (they think XD because they never tried a sensation)...

It is truly a Sensational device! Bad pun, sorry. I think the only thing the Note has over us is the higher resolution display and pen input...maybe the camera is of better quality. Honestly though, 960x540 is good enough for me. I picked the Sensation out of 20 other Android devices because it had more of what I wanted. I even picked it over the HTC Amaze.

My Nexus is not laggy at all, and it's even better once running a custom kernel. It's the lack of official updates that are making me consider selling it to get a One X

Interesting that people are willing to change from a Nexus device that should be getting updates first to non Nexus devices.
Is your Nexus's updates controlled by Google or operator?

Google as it's a pure Nexus phone. We're still on 4.0.2 at the mo with no sign of anything new

Thought so, I never really looked into it but kinda assumed that it was just the Verizon Nexus that might get slower updates.

haha amazing
I used both for a week and ended up keeping the inspire. My issue was mostly blur and the smaller screen size. It was also one of the most plasticky phones I have ever held.
yea I thought atrix was gonna be all that and a bag of potato chips but was a let down whe felt it in hand next to my captivate as it has same size screen everything on screen looked smaller. and way plasticy feel which feels cheap to me, why put that kinda hardware into a phone only to neglect outside not only that they made accessories of better quality then the phone itself.
And very nice on those scores dude. How stable is it running with that setup?

It's actually really stable. Just a huge battery killer, but the Inspire 4G has bad battery life anyways. I think the Android Revolution rom helps out a lot for the battery though, especially when underclocking. For the past couple of hours I've tried out 880mhz and it's ultra smooth and it seems to be getting great battery

I posted a benchmark of about 2925 on Android Forums in response to someone saying that the Inspire would be irrelevant once the Atrix was updated to take advantage of the dual core processor. The excuses were it was either a fake pic, not an Inspire, or a bad program.

samsung galaxy r Quadrant benchmark score

Hello,
not that those numbers matter so much but just out of curiosity why the new samsung with the same chipset as the o2x scores so much higher in Quadrant?
Is it because of the 1GB of RAM?

quadrant is outdated and no use for newer phones, those scores mean nothing as far as im aware quadrant STILL does not properly support dual core devices.
Try cf-bench, made by the creator of chainfire3d, try at standard clock speed then try cloakk the cpu to match that of the sgs2 and you will see that the tegra 2 device out performs its rivals in many areas when the over clock is matched. and sometimes even when is lower.
really sick of seeing quadrant its such a crap app.

Yes but the stock rom is crap, and if the o2x tegra 2 chip was released overclocked like the sgs2 was then the o2x would get better stats, the sgs2 gpu is good but the tegra gpu is way better with 3d stuff and that's whats important as we get into more advanced games.
I take it you have not rooted or installed any custom roms so i suggest you do, it will open up your phone to better things and increase performance by 100% compared to that crappy stock rom.

[Q] htc sensation speed

Hey guys. After having owned the sensation for four months I just want to know why it is so much slower than the sgs2. Even when I overclocked my processors to 1.7ghz it was still noticeably slower than my friend's sgs2. No we did not use speedtests we did just usual tests like browser. Why is the sensation so bad for a 'dualcore phone '.?
what rom are you on. I have yet to have this problem even on stock
Currently cyanogenmod but ik its the rom. I was just wandering why the phone is so much slower than the sgs2
Sent from my Sensation using XDA App

On stock sensation was slower, on cyanogen was a disaster..
Now i'm on ICS sense and is flying, much much better than s2
Really? You found cyanogenmod slow? Could you please tell me which ics rom you were using to achieve the speed
oh well ever since i updated to ics and new firmware this phone has went wild with speed lol

For speed you MUST try a ICS rom! Just upgrade to .24 firmware and flash any ics rom, you will get a uber speed..!! And consider they are only at beta-test stage..
Make sure u do a full wipe with mikes superwipe script before flashing ics roms. U need to flash the 3.24 fw in bootloader. Its ez stuff

My sister owns a SGS2, so I can make a direct comparison as well.
I'm running Android 4.0.3, Sense 3.6, ARHD 6.2.1, O/C Kernel @ 1.5Ghz.
The Sensation is FLYING - SGS2 ain't got nothing on the speed of a rooted Sensation. My sister even complained to me why my phone runs a lot smoother and faster AND even has the nicer animations from HTC Sense.
I can only imagine that if you were to run a Senseless ROM, the speed would increase even more.
We were pretty much running the same apps in the background and just switched between them, did a couple of browser and market tests and the Sensation came way ahead - again, that's with HTC Sense and my phone was even running a couple more widgets. (PowerAmp, Astrid etc.)
So maybe for the complete stock versions that might be different, but running a Senseless ROM on this phone should give you the smoothest experience that you can expect from a smartphone. The only thing stopping it might be badly coded apps.
I am running HyperSensation Version 1.6, based on CM7 and the phone zips through just about everything, and I have actually underclocked the processor down to 1026mhz.
Haven't tried any of the ICS ROMS yet to compare, but personally I'm not a big fan of Sense. Maybe 4.0 will win me over.
Flash beastmod. It fully stabke and fast as s2

Quadrant scores aren't exactly the best way to demonstrate which is better.
A video of both phones side by side performing tasks will be much more telling.
Cool. I heard it hit close, but wasn't sure how close. Do you have anything done to your HOX?
You might want to use the power button + home button to take screenshots in order to prevent the volume changing and getting in the way of your shots. Just a tip.

When someone claims something is faster, I always ask "At what?" The hardware is half the story. It's what application the hardware is used for is what we can actually make use of.
Yes, the Snapdragon S4 Krait beats the Tegra 3 in a benchmark and vice versa has happened in a few instances as well. Essentially, there should be little to no perceivable difference between the two processors. HTC would be stupid to allow for that to happen and Qualcomm equally stupid to allow the Tegra 3 to beat their latest and greatest.
Don't get me wrong because I believe multiple benchmarks are important in order to compare hardware/software to a set standard. But given the small margins in scores, its hard to worry about one being better than the other.
Well for one thing the att one x has much better battery life as well as 4glte

To be expected. The S4 is a much more modern chip. Of all the stats the only one that's surprised me is that Teg3 battery life isn't as bad as you'd expect based on it being two 40nm A9 chips glommed together. It actually outperforms the SGS3 on talk time and web browsing when adjusted for battery size. AMOLED kills it on video playback because of the lower drain from darker colors.
Here's all three. And before people get disillusioned about the SGS3 scores, benchmarks are meaningless once speeds pass a certain point. The OS and apps aren't capable of using all the speed available in Exynos Quad, S4, or Teg3. Also when looking at the video scores of older phones keep in mind PPI on new HD phones is 30+% higher. So to compare the actual GPU improvements subtract 30% from an older non-HD phone's score. Same applies to the qHD display on the One S.

But if we was just satisfied with what is NEEDED then there wouldn't be any progress. Not to mention that LTE needs to be that fast for when it gets bogged down by the iPhone 5 when it drops, just like the 3G network did when the 2nd generation iPhone came out.

Why even make excuses? Its so common when someone hears something the device they have can't do make excuses why its not needed (LTE). Or some other reason it's not important.
