HOW TO PARTION WITH PARAGON PARTITION MANAGER
**** YOU WILL LOSE ANY INFO ON THE SDCARD - PLEASE BACK UP IMPORTANT INFO PRIOR TO STARTING THIS PROCESS ***
**** these are instructions for Windows XP ***
***** if you are using Windows Vista - You need to change the permissions to Administrative in order for this to work - RIGHT CLICK ON THE START BUTTON AND GO TO ADMIN SETTINGS - even if you are the only user of the PC
have the sdcard in the card reader or in the phone mounted to the pc !!!!
OPEN PARTITION MANAGER...
CLICK ON PARTITION MANAGER IN THE LOWER RIGHT HAND CORNER..
then click on the line that represents the sdcard, and right click on it, and choose format partition.. name the volume label - fat32
then click format..
computer might hang for a minute or 2, and then a popup will come up and say click GREEN CHECK to apply changes..
click the GREEN CHECK IN THE TOOLBAR AREA..
you will then see another pop up show - apply changes, choose yes, then you will see OVERALL PROGRESS AND GEARS TURNING.. LET IT PROCESS AND TAKE ITS TIME.. DONT HIT CANCEL..
when its done the cancel button at the bottom will change to Close.. click it..
AND THE FIRST STAGE IS DONE...
NOW ITS TIME TO CREATE THE EXT2 PARTITION..
Now on the Left side of the screen click Create partition.. and a screen will now show Create New Partition Wizard... it lets you chose which drive to partition ( make sure you chose the sdcard - it will be the one with the smallest volume/size of the sdcard in gbs.. should be on the bottom )...
HIT NEXT
now a slider will appear where it says new volume....
move the slider with the mouse, and make it how big you want it.. for ext2 partiiton about 500mb to 1gb is plenty... 500mb is good size.. ( size wont be exact so get it close to the size you want..
WHEN DONE CLICK NEXT...
NOW IT GIVES YOU THE OPTION TO FORMAT THE PARTITION...
CLICK THE PARTITION TYPE DROPDOWN MENU AND CHOSE LINUX EXT2... AND GIVE IT A VOLUME LABEL OF ext2.
then click next...
PC WILL PROCESS AND HOURGLASS WILL SHOW WHERE THE MOUSE POINTER IS.. AND THEN A POP UP WILL SHOW - SAYING -
COMPLETING THE CREATE NEW PARTTITION WIZARD..
CLICK FINISH...
THEN IT TAKES YOU BACK TO THE SCREEN SHOWING THE DRIVES, AND WHAT YOU CREATED, AND THE OPTION AT THE TOP WILL SAY - APPLY ... choose apply
THEN IT WILL ASK YOU TO - APPLY PENDING CHANGES AGAIN, choose yes..
NOW YOU WILL SEE THE GEARS WORKING AGAIN.. LET IT RUN TILL IT SAYS complete..
*it will take a few minutes to process.. let it run...
you might get a pop up for the sdcard drive as a open folder on the pc just showing that its done, just go back to paragon and let it finish running...
once complete you will get a pop up saying SYSTEM RESTART IS REQUIRED TO COMPLETE OPERATION.. CHOSE RESTART THE COMPUTER...
You will see a paragon manager screen, that will hang for a almost a minute, and then the bar will fill saying 100 percent complete, press any key to reboot the pc..
AS LONG AS THERE IS NO ERRORS, YOUR DONE..
FORMAT COMPLETE..
PARAGON WILL START UP ON ITS OWN, AND SHOW THE PARTITIONS AS BEING COMPLETE..

If your having issues using paragon partition manager, and trying to make a linux swap partition, try these instructions for formating thru Cyanogens newest recovery
Formatting you SDcard
You only need to do this once folks..if you already have 3 partitions including linux-swap move to step 2
You need Recovery image 1.31 to do this folks!
To format card SD card with linux-swap WARNING!!! this will reformat you entire SD card!!
You can use the recovery console and parted to format SDcards with 1.31 folks, no more going through hassles you have the tools on you G1!...here is an example of how to do this in recovery console using parted
Example for 8GB card (specific value's may be slightly different use print to verify your total SDcard size~!
Reboot and enter recovery
Enter console
#parted /dev/block/mmcblk0
#print (to verfiy we know what size card we are dealing with, the details should be straight forward)
rm 1
rm 2
mkpartfs primary fat32 0 7584
mkpartfs primary ext2 7584 8127
mkpartfs primary linux-swap 8127 8159
#print (to verify we have the 3 partitions)
Example for my 4GB card
#parted /dev/block/mmcblk0
#print (to verfiy we know what size card we are dealing with, the details should be straight forward * then grab a calculator to figure the exact amounts... as shown below that is an example..)
rm 1
rm 2
mkpartfs primary fat32 0 3420
mkpartfs primary ext2 3420 3932
mkpartfs primary linux-swap 3932-3964
"End?" you need to place the last value for the linux swap eg.3964 for my 4GB card
#print (to verify we have the 3 partitions)
Next we need to "quit" parted and upgrade our ext2 partition to ext3
#upgrade_fs
Swap value is set to 30 currently, you can change this by modifying the "echo" value for swappiness in the a2sd.sh script
swap partition shouldnt be no larger than 92mb
ext2/3 partition shouldnt be more than 500mb ( more than that is too much )

during the paragon process it says do not interrupt it while it is formating, cause you pc can become unstable. and thats exactly what you did.. u might be able to press the esc button, i believe it gives that option at the bottom of the screen to exit it properly. but rebooting was wrong...
anytime u FORMAT any drive or card you will lose information, thats pc fundamentals... will add the issue about losing info to orig post..

Help
I know I am always running into problems. But i am freakin out about this and i don't know if this is the right thread to be posting this or maybe someone can lead me to other thread with this fix.
Question
First i partitioned my mini sd card using my G1 with paragon manager and when everything was done the computer restarts.
But the weired thing is that now when i mount my G1. My G1 is recognized by my computer but it does not show me the storage device on my computer folder or even prompt me with opening a folder for my storoge card. I am freakin out.
Things i tried.
1. Rebooted my phone
2. nandrroid backup restore
3. restarted my computer
4. changed minisd cards.
5. uninstalling the usb android driver and reapplying it
6. went to usb debug on the settings on the phone
nothing worked.
Thanks . Any help would do.

Fix ******Update
It took me alot of time to figure this out. if anyone gets this problem just assign your sdcard a Letter. Example: E: Drive.
When i look at these tutorials it does not mention anything like that.
thanks anyways

1. did you do the fat32 first, then ext2 second ?
2. did you mount the sdcard to the pc ?
3. may show as F drive on your pc !!!
I used PM 10, it is very easy. However when the program wants to reboot it says there is an error, but I check that the ext2 partition is good by typing busybox df -h in terminal.
I've partitioned several cards now and they all work.
I found that doing a wipe then installing Lucid's rom.
I reinstall my applications from mybackup pro and downloading others from the market.
I test everything is working fine, then and only then I use the scripts that Lucid posted.
To recap ensure that busybox recognises the ext2 partition then wipe, install Lucids rom

thank you for the info..
was looking for the commands to verify that the ext2 partition is done correctly, and of course it verifies that busybox is working also..
I'm having a large issue with my new Micro SD card.
When using PM and my MicroSD in an SD adapter it allows me to format and create partitions successfully JUST FINE with my Sandisk 2gb which is probably a class 2 or just not a class at all...it doesn't say on the card at all.
BUT I just bought a Transcend 8gb Class 6 HC card and when using the SD adapter the computer recognizes it just fine to open and view files...BUT Paragon says its "Invalid" and won't allow me to format, partition, or anything.
I have no idea what needs to be done differently. It works just fine in the phone and moving files but Paragon won't recognize it or allow it to be modified.
I need some help please!!!
First of I'm new to all this so I'm a nood and I need some help massively I have trying to make this ext2 partition on ubumtu for months and always get an error message and a lost and found folder in the ext2 partition. Found these directions and finally make the partition w/ no error messages. Fat32 1st then ext2 2nd type busybox command so I think its done right. So I try to mkdir /system/sd/app for marcus directions on apps to sd to use his apps to sd2 app and I get error /system/sd/app read only. Why is that so? I look in pargan partitioner were I made the parition and there both still there. I would be greatfull if anyone can help out a nood like me [email protected]. I have been trying to get this ext2 partiton for months and today thought I did it correct cause no error messages and boy was I wrong!! Please anyone help !!

im have the same problems as her, i dunno why
I am running vista 64 and paragon profesional. I can get it to format and can get the ext2, but I can not do anything with the card. I try and reformat the fat32 and give it a letter for a drive but it wont take or if i format it and then create the ext2 it gives the ext the drive letter(both cannot have a drive) What gives and in the meantime I have to use the 1gig because although paragon recognizes the sd card my pc does not!
so i've done everything in the tutorial. and even the coding for checking busybox.
it doesnt show the ext2.
and i tried running the lucid commands
and it says ext2 is not mounted.
i get all the way to the ext2 part the very last thing
like mount/dismount and i get a error
saying to close a program or restart pc
cant close program because i dont know what it is so i click retry same error
i restarted pc 2 times
still same thign tried reformatting all over again what am i doing wrong? thanks guys!

You need a execute file named "parted" . Find it and copy to your system/bin folder.
For a easily way is install a software called "Rom Manager"
It contains the "parted". and you can just part your sdcard via GUI.
Do not use adb shell command If you are a linux/android newbie

the best thing to do is to flash new recovery, remember ur bootloader needs to be unlocked or S-off.
once u flashed new recovery u simply go to ur recovery > mounts and storage > format storage, it should ask how big ur ext partition suppose to be
Hi,
I saw that under CronosX ROM both /data/app and /sdext/app are used to store apk (/sdext/app is a copy of /data/app) so I tried to install link2sd but it fail it can't mount sdext it say device is busy.
Can someone help me to fix ?
I tried to mount with adb and same error.
So after fiew more search I finally succed. So what I did :
-Install Link2sd from market and transform it as system app
-Remove 05mountsd 07app2ext 11link2sd from /etc/init.d/
-Reboot phone
-launch Link2sd
[Be carreful : Backup your app before because I lost all my app by doing this. So you have to install all your app after that or maybe you can move from sd-ext to data/sdext. I don't know because I tried link2sd without removing script first so it lose all app.]
For know Link2sd work and I haven't to wait anymore to enter simcode at startup but I have to test to be sure.
After fiew test I confirm that I have no more need to wait to enter pincode at boot.

So if you try to install make a backup of your rom before because first launch can make you lose all your app. If you have a mount error saying device is busy at link2sd start it mean that there is a script in another place that make the same as those I deleted.

Thanks for this work around. It was usefull for my galaxy mini. At least on first boot. We'll see how it behaves after a few boots. I was unable to link apps due to "read only" mounting. And this was the most convincing and easy way to do it. After couple of days searching everywhere.
My steps:
1. Install Link2SD, launch so it makes the mounting script.
2. Remove mount scripts from /etc/init.d using terminal in my device.
Code:
cd /etc/init.d ; rm 05mountsd ; rm 11link2sd
3. transform to system app by moving Link2SD from /data/app to /system/app
Code:
mv /data/app/com.buak.Link2SD-1.apk /system/app/com.buak.Link2SD-1.apk ;reboot
I didn't backup or anything because I was using a new SDcard and a fresh install.

Using Samsung galaxy s8 plus exynos and i dont have the init.d folder? What should I do with the same error?
Hi,
First of all, thank you a lot for all the development effort that has been put in to bring the AOKP ROM up to this fantastic standard. I have been using the ICS AOKP for quite a while, and just switched over to the JB ROM. It feels a lot faster and smoother, thank you!
I have got a question on Link2SD after flashing this ROM. Apologies beforehand, if this is not the forum to post that. I had used Link2SD while on ICS to move most of the apps to the SD card. Now after flashing JB, Link2SD does not re-mount the SD card secondary partition. I selected all the options mentioned (ext2/3/4/FAT) but it fails to mount with any of those options. So I'm not able to re-link any of my apps. Does anyone know how to fix this and get my apps back?
I also tried the following as per suggestions in some of the threads: 1) mounting it in recovery: not working; gives the message error mounting sd-ext (2) deleting some of the apps like Downloads and Email: still not working even after deleting those two apps.
Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I never had any problem with link2sd and ANY rom. Im on CM 10.1
Till ICS it was easy to directly download and flash roms and Gapps.
But JB roms need trimming.
What i do is.. after a clean wipe I flash any JB rom. Then remove unwanted apps.. Instal Link2sd..
change few minor system apps to user apps (not recommended, if you dont know.. what you are doing).
After linking these apps.. I always have enough mem for Gapps.
In Gapps also you have few apps which you can convert to user app and then link it.

My issue is now fixed, but in a hard way. Formatted the secondary SD card partition, and then Link2SD automatically recognized it. All the apps are gone, but at least I got the secondary partition active. Spent another half-hour downloading all the needed apps again from the Play store.

I tried formatting ext2 and ext4, no result was not, error mount script.I knew it or not enough memory or wrong permissions set.
I mentioned that Titanium Backup can delete system apk you need to unmount the partition.
I removed the system software of Google voice search, voice dialing, search . (Titanium Backup / un-install all user & system apps)
Run Link2sd :victory:
I also had problems with link2SD.

The standard and not-really-necessary idea of doing a factory-reset wipe when flashing is the problem here. I also had that zong my sdext making it read-only and nothing, nothing except re-partitioning the sdcard helped.
not working !
hi ! I have a problem , I've tried to partition sd card with cwm, minitool partition , tried ext 2,ext 3 , ext 4 , flash again ROM , install first link2sd , recreate mount scripts every time i change the method but no matter what i do , it keep telling me that the 2nd partition is not mounted and wont let me recreate mount script . Hi,
First of all, thank you a lot for all the development effort that has been put in to bring the AOKP ROM up to this fantastic standard.

Hi, you can do one of these things, by adb shell run e2fsck -fpDC0 /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 to your second partition or using gparted run a full check of second partition of your SD card in a computer card reader, after that will work. I have the same problem, but in my case i have to do this procedure EVERY DAY because at next start the read only problem starts over... ANY BETTER SOLUTION APRECIATED !!!
After factory reset, I had a read-only ext4 partition. Had to start over.
Common cause of link2sd not creating its mount scripts is too little room on /system. Try adb shell df | grep system. Need a few meg. If this be the problem, need to trim the ROM.
Can,t understand ... How to Do it In Micromax A27...in custom Rom
tell me how to do it in Micromax A27 in custom Rom Dreamboltxv2
A lot of separate issues here and in various threads:
1. Sd-ext read only after factory reset. I never do that. Had that very thing happen. Save all data from partitions to computer, repartition and copy it back.
2. Not enough room on system to process/form mount script. JB and onward, ROMs need trimming. > 3meg needed, 9meg should be plenty.
3. No room on data. Link2sd can still work and fix that. If sdext can be mounted, that is ... and a launcher can live long enough to get to lin2sd and start it!
4. Other errors creating the mount script. I am now getting "device busy ... maybe ext4 not supported ... try vfat ... etc." Ext4 is supported. I have a copy of the script which I can place myself.
5. Data integrity problems in Kitkat based ROMs. Repeated recreation of dexes on data, using it up (Link2sd's Achilles heel). Sometimes, recreating that script can stop this. If one can get it re-created. Issues 3, 4. Link2sd can get the space back, problem is keeping it.
I have raised the issues with Link2sd authors.

does link2sd detects your second ext2 partition? if yes... pls wait for somebody else to help you.if it is not detected, just follow the steps carefully in the tutorial (link given in first reply).
this is what happened: when I click ext2 ext3 ext4 or fat32 it shows mount script cannot be created. when I see in storage info it says sdcard 2 no mount. intact I followed that guide to partition. 6.40gb primary fat32. and 1gb primary ext2 (at present) tried ext 3 4 and fat 32. every time it shows no mount script. do yo still say that my partition is wrong? please help me. also say where is install-recovery.sh located. if I find that it will be done. note: I use micromax a58
I hope you are using Andrr 4.2 and be sure that you are using latest link2sd app from playstore.I know that some older version of link2sd doesn't support 4.2 . will cause mount script error.
first of all... forget about script now... I cant help you with scripts..But im sure that you can do without a script. because I also faced the same situation that u r facing...
tried all filesystems allways shows me mount error..
but I started from the scratch slowly following each and every step carefully., I succeeded with ext2 filesystem. thats why I told you to follow that steps carefully. .
I dont have any link to tutorial for the scripts for you now..
ill post it here once I get it..
all the best
scratch means? you merged everything and again partitioned it? first I moved all data to system. and I partitioned it as I mentioned previously. total 7.40gb. after deleting all became unallocated. I split it into 2. one is primary, 6.40gb,fat32. another is primary, 1gb,ext2. installed link2sd. selected ext2.(also tried others). it said mount script not created.. also said to try fat32/16. I again inserted in computer. clicked the second partition. clicked delete partition (did I make mistake here?). and the second partition(ext2) became unallocated. didn't touch the first partition. after second became unallocated, I tried fat32. not worked. repeated the process for all.(ext3,ext4) nothing worked. mount script not created. that's why I entered into scripts and downloaded root explorer, busybox and terminal emulator. but couldn't find install-recovery.sh. this is my situation. have I made mistake in partition? help me sir. please.

yes just start by deleting all partition..mini patrition tool is best for this purpose.
try to make ur fat partition as active.
both must be primary
after partitioning make sure your partition showing with size specified by you.you can use diskinfo app from playstore.
do a restart...
still if u cant .......
I saw some script details here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2142844&page=2
and
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1713478
be careful.. I dont hav any experience in creating these scripts...
in link2sd it says SD card 2nd part not mounted is my partitioning wrong? any way to find if my partition. .is correct? how to find whether my sdcard has ext2? note I have terminal emulator, root explorer, busy box and link2sd.
downloaded disk info. in SD card it shows mmcblk0p1 ( my main fat32 primary 6.40gb) and mmcblk0p2 ( my second ext 2 primary 1gb). mount point shows none. how to mount it? shall I merge my two partitions and again partition it? if so what should I give for second partition? ext2 or 3 or 4 or fat32? do I have to follow trial and error method? please help me sir.

yes,you can delete all partitions and start again.try to make your first partition as active. use mini partition tool to partition ur sdcard.for second partition
use ext2 filesystem it is supported by almost all roms .if you still stucked try with fat32.
thats all.. if u still not able to mount try those scripts (link already given) at ur own risk.
how to make first partition as active with mini tool partition? I have been using that tool from the beginning. I want to merge those partitions and split it again right?
