Hi all! My first post in xda developers forums.
Anyway, I'd like to ask about rooting regarding the Sensation XE. I've seen the tutorials on the forums as well as other sites, and most of them seem to say that rooting on XE is very similar to rooting the normal sensation since both of them have the same software. (with XE just having bigger battery, beats audio etc.)
However, some of my friends are saying that rooting an XE the sensation way gives the phone some problems. For example, he stated that certain functions such as bluetooth, 3G and/or hardware control would be missing, and I would have to choose a custom ROM. (which I don't want to do at this stage)
So, given that many of you here have messages sent from a sensation XE, I'd like to know how true my friend is. Can the XE be rooted the sensation way? Or if not, how else could it be done?
Many thanks in advance! ;D

I honestly think that while youre at rooting why not s-off and and get supercid , cwm and so on whit a custom rom so you will have everything working its quite scary at first but it should be fine ...

First, on a slightly unrelated note, you'll probably find that quite a few messages that are signed from HTC Sensation XEs on this forum are actually people on regular HTC Sensations running Android Revolution HD, which effectively makes the phone think it is a Sensation XE. Which is pretty much the truth. The hardware is absolutely identical, minus the battery.
Anyway, back to your question; rooting the Sensation XE, as far as I know, is identical to rooting the Sensation. The only things that differ are the version codes and model numbers. ROMs in the Development Forum work completely interchangeably between the two models.
Go to the development forum, find the reference post on everything regarding superCID, rooting and gaining S-OFF, and follow every step as close as possible, and you will be fine. Pretty much guaranteed.
And head back here if you get stuck at any point.

Dear sensation users,
In the next month i'm gonna change phone.
I think it's gonna be the Sensation XE because of the STARDARD large battery (I have read the batteries from evo 3d etc work) + all the gimmics
Do you guys think that the sensation roms will work on the XE? (i wan't to besure that i can flash leedroid and revolution)
Will HTC upgrade the HBOOT so Revolutionary won't work and we can't flash roms?
If these questions are too early to be answerd i will wait till the xe wil be released...
Thanks in advance!
I'm sure there will be devs to work on the xe to call it a priority for them is farfetched.
From what I read the xe hardware speaker wise doesn't change from sensation 4g. Which is what makes devs like mike1986 capable of creating roms to mimic the dre beats.
This is just my opinion but if your going to change just for the battery. Keep this in mind with ny sensation running ARHD 3.6.1 with bricked kernel_0.91 ny battery is running 20 hours easily with normal use and 8 with constant WiFi.
I do however like the red and black myself.
although I would say that the sensation 4g is on everyone's mind as far as developments goes and it would be ill advised to get an xe at this point. Sort of a lateral move I guess I would say.
Just my thoughts.

Yes, they are physically the same phone. The only difference is the new colour & beats software

I wouldn't say that at all.
Taken from the Android Revolution HD Thread
Q 24: Why my "4G" icon is gone from the status bar?
A: My ROMs are based on WWE HTC ROMs. It means that there is no "4G" icon but you have HSPA+ connection with "H" icon anyway.

I'm saying as opposed to the sensation xe I'm not speaking in anyway on any other device. Just sticking to the question
Just wanted to clarify
I Am new to this phone but i am not new to xda but i have some questions i just rooted the phone and s-off and am ready to try some custom ROMs. But I like to know what are you favorite ROMs and kernels and why??? What other things should i know about this phone that maybe i dont know, any tips or trick i will read thru all the threads but i want to know your opinion too, I also wanted to introduce myself to you guys i love xda and am looking forward to getting to know this phones comunity
EDIT
Also so i have 4g now but when my phone cant get a 4g connection then it goes right to 2g???? what happened to the 3g???
try arhd 3.6.11 or 6.0.2
the reason it has full htc sense and its is more better than stock buecasue of the setting thats has been implemented like cpu and gpu overclock and more.v
beside thats my opinion but i know more people will tell you try different but its up to you to try and see which one you like the best. beside i think any of the roms that rae sesne based i love them because thats the only reason i bought htc sensation if i wanted asop i would have gone with galaxy s 2 and yeah beside this is what i think
let me know if you like htc sense or not
I do like sence I am getting used to it

Regarding ICS Roms, particularly InsertCoin and ARHD, does it make a difference if you flash the XE or the Non-XE versions?
Can I flash the XE Version onto my T-Mo Sensation 4g? I am assuming that I could do that and not run into a whole lot of major problems, but I am curious what the actual difference is between the two.
It could just be changing the "identity" of the phone itself? Like when you use the market and what not?
Thanks in advance for any info on the subject.
(for the record, I went ahead and flashed the Non-XE version anyways just in case)
XE had beats
Non XE had SRS
That's it ^^

So then essentially I can just flash either one, as long as it matches the firmware I flash?
Sounds good to me lol
Hardware difference
So to clarify, is 'beats' hardware or software? I thought I read that on XE versions, normal headphones wouldn't work, that you needed special 'beats' headphones. This lead me to believe that there was a hardware difference, but its just a guess.

No, I don't think there is any hardware difference i.e. the Beats feature is purely software.
Can I still get the official ICS update on my tmo sensation 4g if I have it 's-off'ed and rooted?

That's a tricky question. Android updates from T-Mobile have been known to brick rooted devices in the past, though I've never seen a fully unrecoverable brick happen this way. There have also been instances where devices with custom roms have not even been given the option to update. Beyond that though, there have been many updates that came out and did nothing more than update your phone and cause you to lose root.
That all being said, my suggestion is, if you REALLY want the T-Mobile ICS update, don't s-off your phone, and if it's too late for that, check the forums for people bricking their phones before you choose to update. Otherwise, get one of the great ICS ROMs available already (like Revolution HD using sense 3.6), and when the T-Mobile update comes out, get a new ROM based on that.
Whatever you do, patience is the key. Don't pounce on the update the second you get it.
Thanks for the reply Johnny, I appreciate it! I've seen some of your other posts and notice how helpful you've been. I like this sensation community, reminds me of the hd2 one I'm moving from.
right now I'm running stock everything, haven't done anything customized. At least yet I'm always nervous about rooting a new device since I'm unfamiliar.
Thanks again for the words of wisdom.

My pleasure. And if you ever do decide to go the route of rooting, this is the thread I used and recommend: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
Good luck!
HTC has really gone nuts; they won't give us JellyBean and they encrypted the JellyBean RUU of other portable devices like one S, just to make sure we do not get jellybean on our sensation.
Is there a forum where sensation owners can bombard them with 'dislike' maybe they will change their stupid minds. They want to start behaving like apple even though we are android users.

They won't give us Jellybean - Well thats pretty much to be expected. HTC's method operation seems to be that the phone ships with the current version of Android, and it'll get an update to the next version. After that you're on your own! The only device I can think of that breaks this rule is the Desire, and that Gingerbread update was only via an RUU...
Another thread about JellyBean and HTC are crap? I reckon this is getting locked, there are several already.

Agreed, it's not hard to find those threads anyway, generally they sit right around the top of the Sensation General forum
I can't help thinking though, the amount of time and effort that folks are putting into (fairly ineffectively) trying to convince HTC to release JB for the Sensation is time and effort just as easily spent getting a custom JB ROM up and running for themselves
The issue is not that JB is unavailable for the Sensation guys, it's that you just don't have access to a bloated, branded, messy OTA from your respective carrier :silly:
