How to root and install CWM and flash ROM - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I was wondering how to root my phone and flash it and install CWM and a rom, i have 2.2.1 firmware

Follow either guide in the first or second link in my signature to upgrade to rooted Ginderbread with CWM. If gou follow the second guide - Flash with bootloaders.

I also plan to root the CWM and flash ROM ...

If you have CWM you are rooted.
The second link in my signature will give you rooted Gingerbread 2.3.6 with CWM.
If you are currently on Froyo you have to FLASH BOOTLOADERS. After following the guide you will be able to flash a custom ROM.
Directions for flashing a custom ROM with CWM can be found in the first link in my signature. Find the section for flashing Custom ROM's.

Do You Need Root To Flash Custom Recovery Through NVFlash?

I have a replacement G2x coming today in the mail and if it comes with 2.3.3 on it and I can't root it through superoneclick can I just flash CWM through NVFlash and then a custom ROM with root or do I need to root the current ROM to flash CWM through NVFlash? Thanks!
Nope, just flash recovery as you normally would, and install any ROM you'd like.

[Q] GNex TOOLKIT V7 Drivers, Backup, Unlock, Root, CWM, Flash, Mods + MUCH MORE [GSM

The toolkit states that a full bootloader unlock, root, and cwm recovery installation is possible either separately or with “1 –click”. Elsewhere in the forum it is stated that android will revert to stock recovery if cwm is flashed to a stock ROM. Does the toolkit method solve the problem of reverting to stock recovery if not immediately flashing a custom ROM and staying with stock ROM? Or does this mean it will always revert to stock recovery when booting back into stock ROM unless the specific file listed is removed from /system?

Want to go to JB but on ICS with custom Rom/Recovery

With all the new JB roms and custom kernels based of the JB OTA I want to give them a shot. I'm confused on what I need to do since I'm rooted with unlocked bootloader on ICS but running the Black Bean JB Rom. I read Ok need to go up date to JB bootloader and then flash custom JB recovery. Can someone point me in the right direction please.
Thanks!

It's really simple.
Download your asus jb firmware from their site.
Run voodoo ota keeper to keep root for later
Unzip it and flash the zip extracted in your custom recovery as you would with any custom Rom
Reboot
Install custom recovery again via fast boot or re-enable root from voodoonand use goo manager to install your recovery
There is also a flashable version of super user you can use to get root back as well.

[Q]Installing Custom ROM for the first time, questions. HELP!

So, I'm installing an custom rom for the 1st time.
So, my phone and other details;
Samsung Galaxy S Plus
Android 2.3.5 Stock
SIM-Locked.
Wanting this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2315448
I know I lose the warranty, but i dont really care as there is like 2-3 months left.
I have some big questions, as im a noob!
1) Can being SIM-Locked cause any problems?
2) I read, that you don't have to root to install it.
3) How do I install it? I know something about root/Custom ROM's, but no idea about kernels/recoverys. Full tutorial if possible!
You need to install CWM recovery because You can flash new roms through it.. And for install CWM. You must have a rooted device. So Do this before installing any rom. Make sure You install rom of ur own device.

[Q] Root and custom recovery question

Hello? I was recently s-off, unlocked and using Adrenaline sense 6 lollipop rom.
Yesterday, I went back to stock 4.4.4 using the ruu file. I still have the s-off and unlocked.
Now my questions are..
1. Can I install custom recovery first then root by using supersu.zip file?
2. Or do I need to root first by weaksauce or something then get custom recovery?
You can go straight to installing a custom recovery. From there you can either flash the su binaries to achieve pure stock rooted rom or you could flash any one of the custom roms available which are pre-rooted.
