motoblur launcher? - EVO Shift 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to pull the motorola applications platform launcher from a droid 4 or droid 3 and port it to our phone?

Why whats so good bout motoblur anyway?

I actually like the newest blurhome2. I've been fiddling with getting it working on other devices but no go as of yet! The blur is really dug in deep to the launcher! Lol..
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk

Yeah the new one is 3D and is really smooth.

Although it is possible to develop a launcher mimicking motoblur you would have a hard time finding a developer who is willing. Most developers are focused on ICS roms now. Have you tried the go launcher ex or SPB shell 3D launcher?

Motoblur is crap... Plain and simple... By far the worst ui of all the manufacturers, i.e. htc sense, samsung touchwiz, etc... My dad used to love his moto phones, he had a og droid, a droid x and a droid x 2, until he picked up the galaxy nexus, now he will never buy a moto product unless its a nexus version... Motoblur sucks

Sense or no sense

So I'm so confused .
I come from using an iPhone .
HTC sensation is my 1st android phone and i love it.
I have rooted and started messing with all the roms.
I don't understanc why everyone hates the sence UI. ??
I love it.
Nonsense is boring and plain .
Can someone plz explain to me why everyone wants a none sence rom.
I am using RCmix and its quick and fast even with a sense UI.

It's bloated and takes up more RAM. The visual appeal does not make up for its relatively poor performance compared to AOSP ROMs.
Ahh can't wait to use an aosp apps and roms

Its not as customizable as I like. I like having a dock with 4 apps that I can change and I also like having the ability to change my icons so I use ADW. Purchase ADW EX from the market and you will not be disappointed. Its like having a grand new phone. It will be the fastest thing you've ever seen. Sense has too much eye candy which makes the UI nit as fast as it could be.

It's not that people hate it, it's a very nice UI, but it lags a lot especially on the sensation. Sense takes up to much memory.

No, I absolutely hate it. It has no redeeming qualities over CyanogenMod.

I absolutely love it! Its pretty much the only reason why i bought sensation.
I can't understand why would people buy sensation if they dont like sense. They can simply buy samsung galaxy s II which offers better hardware and performance, and its not coming with sense.

You are correct, except the excellent performance of the GS2 comes in a pathetic, cheap candy plastic shell. Personally I got the Sensation because I was a fan of the design, and have a preference for LCD over AMOLED screens.
No phone will be all things to all people The first thing I did was stick LauncherPro on the Sensation. My stock ROM (Telstra version) was horribly laggy, and performance way under what I expected. Now at least it's fluid enough for everyday use.
YMMV of course, but Sense 3.0 to me is way too heavy on the eye-candy and doodads, while offering little in terms of an upgrade over 2.1. The lockscreen is its one redeeming feature

Galaxy S2 - $800+ , have to import, who knows about warranty.
Sensation - $150 with contract, available in store, warranty.
I bought Sensation because of it's hardware and looks. Stock build is utter disappointment to me. I will happily admit that I had less lag with my single core MT4g with stock rom or CM7 rom and, IMHO, Sense 3.0 it it's current form is the only thing to blame.
For me, Sensation without Sense is just not right. I'm not exactly sure what people mean by lags. I've tried AOSP and MIUI roms and in all honesty, the difference between them and Sense is hardly noticeable. On a beast like the the Sensation, now that we have root and S-off there shall be cooked roms with Sense that will simply fly. In any case, the polished look of Sense 3.0 and its fantastic widgets are simply worth any so called lags, which I am yet to experience, from HD2 Android, Desire HD and now Sensation.

I know I'm not along when I say I like pretty much everything about Sense except the launcher. Luckily that's the easiest thing to change and you don't even need root. I installed launcher pro day 1 and still get to enjoy the sense lock screen, dialer, etc.
No Sense for me is like Non-sense

Sense roms are usually well over 200mb. With Sense you're lucky if you have 100mb of free ram with no other apps running.
AOSP roms are usually around 100mb. With cm7 I have 280mb of free ram with XDA app in the background.
AOSP roms fly compared to Sense and I actually prefer the ui of pure Android.

No matter how much the devs optimize sense it will still be much slower, far more bloated and barely customizable in comparison. Having some cute weather animations isn't worth it to many of us who bought it purely for the hardware specs knowing that as soon as root came around sense would be happily replaced with a AOSP ROM.
Coming from an iPhone I can see why you prefer a lack of customization in place of a little eye candy. It's what you're used to and your preference. Some people buy Porsche for its 0-60 time and others because of those sexy curves, It's just preference.

Well said. But you forget that the Boxster got spanked by the little Honda S-2000 when Car and Driver tested them. AOSP being Honda and Sense being Porsche.

I don't like Sense and never have. I like a more vanilla look. The only reason I purchased the Sensation is because I wanted a 4.3 inch display and a dual core CPU. Ill get the SGSII variant once it gets to T-Mobile.

I thought about getting a HD2 just for the large display.
i hate sense, it just doesnt not look current. It looks like it was design in 2005 which probably was.... First thing i do on an android phone is put launcher pro... The performance changed completely. I cannot wait to put CM7 on mine because even with sense on this thing and launcher pro its still not as smooth as my Nexus one was...

Sense is WAY more than a launcher. In fact, it's nigh impossible to strip Sense from an HTC ROM and have anything that function at all. Generally, porting UI's from one maker to another isn't done. TouchWiz doesn't work on HTC, Sense doesn't work on Samsung or Motorola.... It's about as likely to happen as someone porting WP7 to your Android device.

port = "someone reskinned or created a launcher that sort of does what windows phone 7 does UI wise"
In other words, it's about as much of a "port" as MIUI is a "port" of iOS.
A real port would be the actual windows phone 7 software, which is as likely as having iOS on your android device.
okay, okay, i got'cha sorry for being misinformed guys

Just wondering...

Why does HTC Samsung Motorola every single company out their own interface over aosp ics ? Do they think it helps? Do they take surveys? Do they just want their mark on the phone? What is it ? Does anyone know
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
Its because they want to distinguish themselves from the competition. They want their "skin" to draw in customers. The "cooler" their skin and more features then the more customers they get.
Yeah but doesn't everyone love aosp? Or is it just us xda memebers

go ask an AT&T sales guy what AOSP is....or what STOCK ANDROID looks like...
i bet he doesnt understand what the hell you are talking about.
xda is the 1%, man.
Mainly Android enthusiasts prefer stock AOSP over a custom UI. I can't speak for mainstream consumers but it wouldnt surprise me if it didn't matter to them if they used a custom skin or not. I'd be surprised if they actually knew they were using one. Sense, imo, looks the least cartoonish, even compared to stock.
moto blur sucks. .... i use holo launcher cause it looks just like ice cream sanwhich! wish i could g have the real thing. ....

Mainstream consumers know nothing about ASOP. Cooperations want to make money. Mainstream=Money. Its WAY more "them" out there then "Us"

[Q] Sense 4.0 for Verizon GS3?

Does anyone know if there is any Sense 4 for the Unlocked, Rooted, Verizon Samsung Galaxy SIII
No. We will probably never get it either. Unless you attempt the port yourself
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
there is a project called sense4all i believe, it is for all galaxy devices. try googling that
Sent from my SCH-I535 using XDA Premium HD app
just use the sense4 theme on an aosp rom, it gets you the look. Most don't miss the functionality. Huge app previews on app switcher? There's mods around to do that. Lock screen copycats are available on apps as well. Can't think of anything else to miss.
I still don't understand why people want sense....... its the worst skin in my opinion .....

Sense has a few nice parts, like it's People app, folders etc. But yeah, TW is better
I always liked Sense, but it has too much UI lag for me. But we'll never see that on a non HTC phone now, way too much work, too complicated, and to most devs that could do it, not worth the effort

Never EVER thought I would hear someone say TW is better...Lol I think it's just inherent to all phone owners to hate whatever ui is on their device and want the others.

I like Sense better in regards to "out of the box", however, until HTC starts putting decent sized (removable) batteries on their Verizon phones..... Well, I now own a Samsung.
Now that I took the leap to root and customize it a bit more, I may change my mind about which I prefer later. I'm not a fan of "stock Android", but Touchwiz seems to offer a little bit of both worlds.

You hit the nail on the head. Opinion, others opinions differ from yours an my opinion's. You see, believe it or not. The world does in fact not revolv around one particular human. Well, maybe it does revolve around me slightly. But thats not my fault. I'm just that cool.
Any way, all joking aside, I like Sense. I miss my Rezound because of it. It in "my opinion" would be wicked cool.

Yeah same here. I'll admit Sense can be laggy, and the huge previews for app switching is silly, but TW is an eyesore, Sense looks loads better in my opinion.
Then again I started out with an HTC phone and have stuck with them so, there's that.

Fancy Widgets' New Sense theme. It even flips and has animations.

Quick observation

Just wanted to post a quick comment. Recently my mom picked up a gs3 via vzw for $49. So i finally got a chance to play with it after reading and hearing all the hype. As far as quality goes, u obviously know htc feels better, the gs3 has a very yellowish tint to the screen. Now before i get killed for beating a dead horse THIS really shocked me. For all the beating that sense takes, i think its light years better than touchwiz. It doesnt even feel like ics or jb. It feels so much heavier and bloated compared to sense its shocking. Going back and forth, going thru menus, etc, it is obvious that sense is a derivative of ics and even jb. It stays true to the color schemes and overall lightness of the ui. Imo people need to appreciate sense a little bit more bc touchwiz was awful.
Sent from my HTC One XL using Tapatalk 2
Yea.. it still uses that retro gingerbread style touchwiz.

HTC > Samsung, One X > SGSIII. I just turned one down. My brother wants to switch with me. LOL
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app
I agree for sure. I think specs tend to dazzle people. The SGS III is a VERY nice phone, no doubt, and I'm sure an aosp Rom would be pretty gratifying. But the screen isn't as nice (pentile) as the one xl and sense ui is really hard to beat.
I'm really happy with this phone and don't regret the choice at all.
