Sense or no sense - HTC Sensation

So I'm so confused .
I come from using an iPhone .
HTC sensation is my 1st android phone and i love it.
I have rooted and started messing with all the roms.
I don't understanc why everyone hates the sence UI. ??
I love it.
Nonsense is boring and plain .
Can someone plz explain to me why everyone wants a none sence rom.
I am using RCmix and its quick and fast even with a sense UI.

It's bloated and takes up more RAM. The visual appeal does not make up for its relatively poor performance compared to AOSP ROMs.

Ahh can't wait to use an aosp apps and roms

Its not as customizable as I like. I like having a dock with 4 apps that I can change and I also like having the ability to change my icons so I use ADW. Purchase ADW EX from the market and you will not be disappointed. Its like having a grand new phone. It will be the fastest thing you've ever seen. Sense has too much eye candy which makes the UI nit as fast as it could be.

It's not that people hate it, it's a very nice UI, but it lags a lot especially on the sensation. Sense takes up to much memory.

No, I absolutely hate it. It has no redeeming qualities over CyanogenMod.

I absolutely love it! Its pretty much the only reason why i bought sensation.
I can't understand why would people buy sensation if they dont like sense. They can simply buy samsung galaxy s II which offers better hardware and performance, and its not coming with sense.

You are correct, except the excellent performance of the GS2 comes in a pathetic, cheap candy plastic shell. Personally I got the Sensation because I was a fan of the design, and have a preference for LCD over AMOLED screens.
No phone will be all things to all people The first thing I did was stick LauncherPro on the Sensation. My stock ROM (Telstra version) was horribly laggy, and performance way under what I expected. Now at least it's fluid enough for everyday use.
YMMV of course, but Sense 3.0 to me is way too heavy on the eye-candy and doodads, while offering little in terms of an upgrade over 2.1. The lockscreen is its one redeeming feature

Galaxy S2 - $800+ , have to import, who knows about warranty.
Sensation - $150 with contract, available in store, warranty.
I bought Sensation because of it's hardware and looks. Stock build is utter disappointment to me. I will happily admit that I had less lag with my single core MT4g with stock rom or CM7 rom and, IMHO, Sense 3.0 it it's current form is the only thing to blame.

For me, Sensation without Sense is just not right. I'm not exactly sure what people mean by lags. I've tried AOSP and MIUI roms and in all honesty, the difference between them and Sense is hardly noticeable. On a beast like the the Sensation, now that we have root and S-off there shall be cooked roms with Sense that will simply fly. In any case, the polished look of Sense 3.0 and its fantastic widgets are simply worth any so called lags, which I am yet to experience, from HD2 Android, Desire HD and now Sensation.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA Premium App

I know I'm not along when I say I like pretty much everything about Sense except the launcher. Luckily that's the easiest thing to change and you don't even need root. I installed launcher pro day 1 and still get to enjoy the sense lock screen, dialer, etc.

No Sense for me is like Non-sense

Sense roms are usually well over 200mb. With Sense you're lucky if you have 100mb of free ram with no other apps running.
AOSP roms are usually around 100mb. With cm7 I have 280mb of free ram with XDA app in the background.
AOSP roms fly compared to Sense and I actually prefer the ui of pure Android.

No matter how much the devs optimize sense it will still be much slower, far more bloated and barely customizable in comparison. Having some cute weather animations isn't worth it to many of us who bought it purely for the hardware specs knowing that as soon as root came around sense would be happily replaced with a AOSP ROM.
Coming from an iPhone I can see why you prefer a lack of customization in place of a little eye candy. It's what you're used to and your preference. Some people buy Porsche for its 0-60 time and others because of those sexy curves, It's just preference.

I thought about getting a HD2 just for the large display.

i hate sense, it just doesnt not look current. It looks like it was design in 2005 which probably was.... First thing i do on an android phone is put launcher pro... The performance changed completely. I cannot wait to put CM7 on mine because even with sense on this thing and launcher pro its still not as smooth as my Nexus one was...

This is not surprising at all. Glacier is using a bastardized version of sense 2.0 anyways, so there's no chance that htc or tmobile would hack a perfectly good version 3.0 just for glacier. Besides with announcement of sensation, tmobile will have a pure sense phone by summer, this would nudge most users to upgrade to the new sensation which what tmobile want anyways to increase sales. Glacier is an ugly step child used to show case video calling with 4g, sensation is the next flagship phone for tmobile.

Sense is more like what android should of been just with out the extra MB. To be honest I like sense better then stock so many things are better. I use cm 7 but use launcher pro. If sense could just make light framework edits like the Guys who make miui alot of people would use it simply it gives a better user exp. When I see stock I go eww. Its boring.

You're lucky you got in the game late. It was agonizing since I bought it at release. I was checking every day to see what developments had been made. I was even the first to post links to the kernel source when it dropped. The original OS was pure torture. I'm just a Vanilla guy.
Besides- Vanilla takes about 90MB, Sense hits about 280MB.
Vanilla>Sense based on sheer efficiency.
Eh, well I guess the myTouch is running espresso so its not like sense 3.0 would change much on espresso. I'm sure when it gets gingerbread we'll see some UI changes tho.

When i saw the Droid X and Droid 2 getting locked down i decided that will not be a "first comer". I want to wait and see how it goes when it comes to rooting.... i don't mind tinkering. But i'm not putting up with a locked bootloader either.
My benchmarks and general user experience between sense vs aosp are barely negligible. Plus sense has all the UI fanciness and Widgets and IMO is just prettier. For as much MB as sense uses vs vanilla I don't see any meaningful drop in speed or experience. That to me is enough to put Sense higher up on my list than vanilla.

I love both AOSP and Sense, but Sense is just so much prettier and has a whole lot more functionalities. I always end up going back to Sense. The FB and Twitter integration on Sense makes it worthwhile for me. And let's not even start on how horrid the caller ID screen on AOSP is
Although it's bulkier than AOSP, I see no noticeable speed difference.
Don't know if anyone has read the article recently, but there's an update saying HTC clarified that some of the older devices will get Sense 3.0. So, there's hope! And since ours is one of the more recent HTC phones, I think there's a good chance we may get it. If not, I think this will be the eventual ROM I finally leave stock sense for!
As others have said, with these phones having the power to smoothly run Sense, I prefer it for it's sleekness and most importantly the awesome widgets. I will say though, that I've fallen out of love with Friendstream because it's so friggin slow!
I hated the first release of sense that released with the hero, but I love sense 2.0, 2.1. Can't wait for 3.0 to be ported to the MT4G. Should hold me over until the Sensation is released.
See, I like both AOSP and Sense. Just depends on mood, but I can see the benefits of both and understand why someone would like one over the other. I just can't make up my mind sometimes.
I Needs It...... I needs my Superphone Fix...Ima have to turn a lot of tricks for the Sensation.

Most likely getting my Sensation tomorrow!

I've really been itching to get back to a 4.3 inch screen after sacrificing my EVO, and I'm finally starting to feel the age of my MT4G. Cannot wait to get into the new dual-core scene, and it looks like S-OFF is almost here! I found one unlocked and brand new for less than $450 (should come out to an even $200 after selling my MT4G), and I get to examine it in person before I commit to buy! Can't wait!
Nice! The big screen def. is alot better, I too came from the MT4G. I think you getting it at the right time, looks like s-off is just around the corner.
Oh yeah another myTouch user to the sensation. Welcome.
The first time you play with the phone, you're going to be amazed at the screen resolution. It took me 2 days to get used to it.

Battery lifes great if you tweak the settings and such and then if youre feeling brave you can try temp rooting it. Then disabling all the bloat and sense launcher. Other then that the screen is really nice! Coming from a htc hero the difference is staggering obviously

When's the last time you actually used it? I thought the same, too, until I actually started using Sense. Are you just saying that because it's the cool nerd thing to say or because that's how you actually feel after using Sense?
And Sense is not just a launcher or a skin. It does a bunch of great things CM doesn't just yet.
I bought my Sensation with the intent of just slapping CM7 on it but in a way, I'm glad S-OFF isn't here yet. I would have probably jumped right back into CM and LauncherPro and not given Sense a chance. I'll stick with Sense for now. It's pretty good.

I used Sense on the Hero, EVO (until CM), the MT4G (just for a bit to see what Sense 3.0 looked like when it was released), and now I'm being forced to use it on the Sensation. I can confidently say that Sense ROMs absolutely suck compared to CyanogenMod, and I would never use one given the choice.
Please list the "great things" that I can do with Sense but not CM. So far I've only found the ability to drain my battery much more quickly.

Sense slows down your phone's performance and drains the battery much too quickly. List ANY widget that HTC makes, and I will give you an alternative for use with ADW or LP (which both blow the Sense launcher out of the water in terms of the ability to be customized).
What does cyanogen mod do that sense cant? Apart from giving you an incredibly laggy launcher from adw.

1. You can use ANY launcher with CM.
2. ADW's default settings make it laggy on some phones. Easily fixed by changing them yourself.
3. Here are just some of their advertised main features. Not including things like native tethering, native screenshots, full Bluetooth compatibility, and you can read the rest yourself.

I'd say the sensation is a step up but I'm not exactly a non bias party tho.
There are currently no roms containing ics. There is a major alpha Rom under development.
Make sure to get yourself a case and maybe an mhl adaptor. Some nice headphones wouldn't be a bad idea either
Currently the arhd roms for sense 3.0 and 3.5 are very well built and do wonders for efficiency and performance. It just depends what your looking for in a Rom

OK thank you! The big reason is that I personally think a 4 inch screen is too small for me. Don't get me wrong I love stock Android but I always need to change my phones customization that's why I love sense. And I love the build quality of HTC phones. And the g2x's Rom development is dead. ya i agree about the build quality and the sense being a top selling point. i love the sensation and with it being one of the few devices getting ICS first (at least as of now) the development should be going strong for at least 6 monthsd from now.

i have both phones and have the sensation as my daily. while i like the sensation slightly more i must say the sense is what keeps me. i hated sense until i really started to use it and im now hooked. i also think though that the g2x has a much sharper and nicer screen.
performance wise i have tested both side to side and the only thing the lg wins in testing over the sensation is neocore (nvidia processors). 78.9fps to 60fps. however linpack and quadrant the sensation takes the cake.
generic testing i know. but it does help to some degree.

I have both the G2X and the Sensation and I like the Sensation better. The G2X seems faster and benchmarks faster, but both are fast enough and the bigger screen on the Sensation is my main reason..
I also have a Tmobile Galaxy S2 but I actually do not use it anymore and switched back to the Sensation because the S2 is too big, it is hard to use with one hand and a pain to carry around..
All 3 have custom roms on them and whichever gets a stable ICS first will be my new daily use phone...
the s2 looks amazing and has amazing specs. seeing as you have all three phones is it hands down the best for performance outta the 3? also i love the screen but i think 4.3 is about the biggest id need.
Yea okay I'm definitely switching because the g2x has a nvidia processor and there is no way there going to give the drivers out. So no ICS for the g2x until the official release.

Original ICS Looks great!
+1 for Sense. It really is visually rich, and it would be incredible if it was as fast as it is beautiful. I tried the only AOSP ICS ROM for the Sensation for a while, and I think pure ICS has itself quite a good looking UI, but since the ROM I was running still has a lot of issues, I've already switched to a just-released Sense 3.5 ROM from a team I've always loved. Just installed it, and holy smokes is it smooth when paired with a particular kernel a lot of users recommended.
I can't wait to see what we get in the near future. Whether we get ICS with Sense 3.5 from HTC or if we get ICS with Sense 4.0, either way it should be pretty exciting, as I'm sure it should finally take care of the one downside of Sense-speed.
HTC Sense is the best!
Well,Sense on a device with less than 1gb of RAM isn't recommended in my opinion.HTC made the mistake to release devices like the Desire HD and Sensation with 768mb of RAM.Anyway, paired with adequately powerful hardware,Sense is awesome. And,while up to Sense 2.1 everything was quite slow,Sense 3 and 3.5 have *proper* hardware acceleration and they are at least smooth as hell. And I only own a Desire HD,not some dual-core HTC phone.
Other than Sense,ICS on the Galaxy S II is more than just good in fact.I've been missing Sense with Gingerbread(God,I hate TouchWiz's launcher),but ICS seems to make up for the loss.Oh well...

[Q] HTC Sense 4.0 for Sensation

So even though HTC claims that Sense 4.0 is lightly skinned compared to older versions, why can't our Sensations not be able to run it? Wanted to see what others thought. I doubt that a phone needs a snapdragon s4 processor to run it. I'm thinking it's to try to get people to buy a new One model. It just rubs me the wrong way if this is the case.
This is all bloody marketing strategy to encourage people to buy there new phone. In my opinion sensation is capable of running sense4.0 . When they introduced sense 3 with our sensation they said same thing DHD will not be able to run sense 3 due to hardware. But now all dhd users are running even sense 3.5

Crap all the way buddy ..marketing is the main part vs they want us to buy the new one x or xl or s model....they just crapping around and think if they will not give an update then who the hell think the people would buy sensation series

When it comes to updating older models, HTC does it with the same enthusiasm as a cat being bathed.
It's all about the mah-ney! (money)

There is already some 4.0 roms. Give them a try. It is deep alpha stage, but looks very nice. I like the end of scrolling effect
can you guys give some of your experiences on the newer sense 4 roms available? hows it compared to sense 3.6 roms in terms of speed and responsiveness? worth the upgrade? should i wait a little longer? thanks

Have a look in their respective threads in the Development sub forum since you'll get many more opinions there.
But I can say they're probably as good as 3.6 ROM's now in terms of speed and responsiveness. Battery life is as good if not better too.
They're definitely worth a try IMO.
I'm running Ordroid with sense 4 and its smooth...
i was used ordroid and it has no major problems, only hdmi output not working. it has no glitches and the developer works hard to improve rom. it's the second most used rom in forum, so many users can not be wrong, am i right?
I currently use 2 Rome, Arts for my daily use, and Elegancia for playing with sense 4. Elegancia is currently both stable and pretty

I have been using the Sense 4.0 ROM on my Sensation XE for over a month now. I am using Ordroid 8.2 ROM currently, and my phone has never felt better. The battery life has increased very significantly, it is more responsive and feels faster while using it on a daily basis. I would recommend flashing a Sense 4.0 ROM to everyone out there. Gives you so much more out of your phone!
Damn you HTC, XDA Developers LIKE A BOSS.
thanks for the responses. well i gave ordroid 8.2 a try. i have to say yes it is comparable to sense 3.6 in terms of speed and responsiveness. except rosie isnt as smooth when moving through your homescreens, even with ultra smooth rosie by default. i also missed the huge amount of tweaks i had from monarx sense 3.6 tweaks. but it looks like ordroid 8.5 may have all of them now. will wait for reviews. also i dont like the new completely dark keyboard (too dark )
