Launcher has stopped - error - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just installed LCD Density Modder Pro and changed my DPI from 160 to 120, which worked fine after rebooting. It was too small so I changed it again this time to 140, after rebooting this time I got an error saying "Unfortunately, Launcher has stopped." Everytime I click "OK" it pops up again.
I did a Factory Reset setting it NOT to restore a backup, and the error remains. I am able to get into Settings, however I am unable to launch any applications as I cannot access the desktop or applications list.
Any suggestions?
Edit: Additional info, running Latest ICS OTA March 12th - Asus Transformer TF101

This was in the app description:

Try restoring just the build.prop file?

I wish that part had been highlighted in someway so I wouldn't have missed it.
I'm clearly a newbie. What is ADB and how can I access Recovery Mode to restore the "build.prop" file on my Asus Transformer TF101?
Thanks for help, I really appreciate it!
EDIT: FIXED
Woah... Fixed. I manually reinstalled the latest update: WW_epad-user-9.2.1.17. Voila DPI issue fixed.

Here's a good thread about ADB

Do you have CWM recovery and did you do a nandroid backup?
EDIT: Noticed it's been fixed.

[SOLVED]Android has no launcher

I ended up unistalling all launchers in my p500, now everytime i turn it on it gets stuck at the android logo screen, simply wont go any further
is there any way i can install an app from my computer or flashing it?
thx ahead
It is in boot loop because your phone has no launcher to boot into. Only way to install is via adb maybe or doing a fresh install of your ROM.
Swyped from my LG-P509 using XDA App.
check this or this
i still have spb 3d installed on this phone
is there any way i can set this as the default launcher outside the phone?

i just realised how stupid my last post was, no need to mention it
ok heres the problem, even if i have to do a fresh install of my ROM, how can i set my phone into debugging mode first?
the only way i can access my phone is when i hard reset it then it boots once even with no launcher, but i cant go to configurations or anything
I do have recovery in this phone, is there any way i can flash a zip to install a launcher or something like that?
this is really starting to worry me
You are not telling us what ROM are you using. But since you have a custom recovery installed, I suppose it's not an official ROM. So, as a last resort, you can flash your ROM once again. You won't lose your apps, contacts, settings etc., but the default launcher of that ROM will be back on.
Also, for crying out loud, if you have a custom recovery, why don't you have a backup? It would have saved you a lot of trouble.

I have an official unbranded version from LG, v10a_02 if I recall correctly
when i try to flash the ROM from a zip file i get this message:
E: No signature (1 files)
E: Verification failed
the reason why i dont have a backup its because it was all a huge accident, i had launcher pro installed, then i wanted to try spb 3d out but it only worked as soon as i installed it, it kept coming back to launcher pro so i uninstalled launcher pro and thats the result

No info about which recovery you are using, no info about what ZIP you are trying to flash either... eh.
Anyway, what on earth are you doing here. Just adb push some launcher APK to /system/app from recovery.
Anyone kindly give him a flashable zip.
Or
When you boot up, press search button and type the name of file manager installed on your phone.
Your file manager should show up. Click it and go to SD card and install any launcher apk from there.
Play with search button. Look for file manager, settings, any other app by long pressing it and find your way to reach SD card.

Problem solved!

Good. Now, do not do it again!
Two more things for you to do:
1. Optional: edit the topic's name to begin with [SOLVED]
2. Mandatory: make a complete backup using the recovery
New very simple solution

Actually I got this problem of no launcher on my galaxy mini, deleted samsung launcher and all other launcher also by mistake.
Search for "[GUIDE/DOWNLOAD] Install apk files quickly from computer to your device" thread on XDA, I follow that, installed GoLauncher using usb,
(I was stuck at Samsung logo, no notification bar, opened Kies, it automatically connected phone, still on samsung logo)
disconnected using kies, problem solved.

AudioFX Issue HELP!!!!!

My OnePlus One has been working fine for two weeks and all of a sudden ive gotten this problem. The sound on the phone doesn't work and neither do YouTube videos. A popup comes up and says "unfortunately, AudioFX has stopped". i press OK but the popup comes back instantly making it virtually impossible to use the phone. this is really frustrating!! please help. before this happened i was trying to do this http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/help/speakerphone-volume-low-calls-t2801938

You said that you were trying the changes from that thread. That thread consist of you changing the mixer_paths.xml file. Upon going in there, you probably changed something that wasn't supposed to be changed or messed up the formatting.
In fact now that I think about it, just go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/themes-apps/mod-volume-increase-mod-oneplus-one-t2835010 and flash one of the mods. Do note that it doesn't have the earpiece volume change but it will fix your audiofx and will play sound without force closes.
I have had this problem and fixed it multiple times...
The problem is, that for some reason the stock file editor sometimes does not save the full file, then starts crashing, etc. Other file editors seem to work ok.
By the way this can also happen for some reasonwhen applying icon packs or themes.
Now the good part - you can fix it without even loosing you data. You need to flash only the system partition from the stock image. Follow this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/guide-return-opo-to-100-stock-t2826541
But in step 3 apply the command: fastboot flash system system.img
Skip the rest of the steps and apply: fastboot reboot.
You can get adb and the Android SDK tools to use here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788632
I disabled AudioFX altogether with Titanium Backup I prefer Viper4android.

[Q] "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped." after OTA to LRY47I

After OTA update from LRX22C to LRY47I, device reboots with:
"Android is starting... Optimizing app xx of xx." (few minutes)
"Starting apps." (few seconds) "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped. Report/OK"
Whatever is pressed, pop-up just reappears.
Clearing cache from recovery restarts app optimization, but error persists.
Basically it's unusable but everything works in the background.
If e-mail arrives, notification sound is heard. Already set alarms work. Notification LED works.
Device is without any modifications, bootloader is locked and usb debugging isn't enabled.
Is there any way to access data?
Is sideloading customized kernel with usb debugging possible with locked bootloader?
Can application for wi-fi access be pushed via google play with preconfigured options and started automagically?
Anyone tried to rescue data after factory reset with dumping disk image and doing forensics?
Any other ideas are welcome.

I wish it would be that simple. There isn't anything on the screen except pop-up.
Hi,
I've just updated from 5.0.1 to 5.1 (Nexus 5) and I'm having the same problem. The device won't go past a black screen with the error popping up every time.
I have tried wiping the cache twice but the problem persists. I don't want to factory reset because I haven't backed up my data in ages and I'm unable to retrieve that data via USB or whatever.
I believe the problem is caused by the launcher (stock in my case), when attempting to draw the wallpaper based on the info posted in Google's productforums by another user who had the same problem (xda won't let me post the URL since my account has too few posts).
I thought of sideloading a launcher from the recovery menu, considering that maybe it will be able to draw the wallpaper and the other stuff, but I don't know if that will work as I think.
Any ideas, please? Right now my Nexus is software bricked.

i was getting the same error loop and i was trapped in the loop with no way out.
here's what i did -
1. wiped cache partition, NO factory wipe - did this 2X - problem persisted.
2. hard reset device wipe back to factory state, then synced Google data, and reinstalled all apps and load all app settings backup files - problem persisted.
3. hard reset device wipe back to factory state, then synced Google data, and reinstalled all apps. this time i did not load my app settings backup files (Nova Launcher Prime, Fancy Widgets Unlocker, Calendar Status Pro, eWeather HD, Deliveries Package Tracker) on the hunch that perhaps there was an incompatible conflicting setting with 5.1 UI and one of the old app settings backups. AND i seemed to remember that the problem started as soon as i loaded the Calendar Status Pro backup settings file. i loaded all of the backup app settings files except for that one and had no problems. then i deleted that old backup file and started fresh with Calendar Status Pro and i've had no problems since.
so my guess is that you need to do a factory wipe and then reinstall all apps fresh. there may be an old setting from an old app that's conflicting with 5.1.
this is probably not what you wanted to hear but my fix required a hard reset and then starting fresh with the culprit app. yes it's a PIA and i spent most of the afternoon and my battery life fixing this problem.
let us know what you discover.
good luck!
I had the same problem: Seems that Calendar Status Pro is causing these issues.
This seems to be a huge problem with Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 users. You can see the complaints in Google's product forum.
Google Product Forums regarding the random reboots
On Android 5.1 I have been getting random reboots. There is no way to predict when it will happen. First time I was sending a message through line and phone went to a boot loop. I thought the power button was broken/stuck. Eventually it stopped boot looping and went through optimizing apps (I think i was holding down the power button). I thought I had a bad flash so i flashed the stock android 5.1 LRY47I through fastboot using the most recent usb drivers. Also wiped the device/set to default. Worked for a while and got Google Play and Gapps errors. Again I flashed the image through fastboot, reformatted/set to default settings in recovery. The third time I was getting gapps errors again so I reflashed/reformatted image through fastboot manually and not using the flash-all.bat. It seemed to work and put in all my settings again. Again I was looking at my phone, put it down, the screen was fading for sleep mode and then it boot looped and got it working and again went to optimizing apps. It booted then 2 minutes later it happened again when swiping apps away. Then a 3rd time. Clearing the Ui seemed to temporarily stop the boot loops. I am using a N5 unlocked, stock android. I thought it was a hardware problem until I saw a large number of users having the same issue on two different devices. Is there any way to create a system log to track down this problem? Thank you for suggesting the UI cache thing, but I am assuming it will boot loop/optimize apps again soon. This seems to be a huge problem for users. I hope this will be fixed soon.

i bet many problems are the result of incompatible apps/settings. mine was. try a fresh device with no apps installed and see if you get the same errors. it's easy to blame Google/Android/Lollipop but i don't think you can blame them if you install a rogue/incompatible/conflicting app or setting. Developers are not perfect and they often do not update their apps. the OS is only as stable as what you load onto it.

I did, fresh install with wipe/default and when I typed in my email address and not restoring from saved profile got a Google Play Services and Gapps error before anything was installed. The flash was through fastboot. Plus the HUGE number of users getting the reboot/optimization problem in the Google forums affecting the Nexus 5 & Nexus 6, it's definitely the software.

Thanks for the post. I thought the same, that some app must be causing trouble due to some misconfiguration. I've tried booting in safe mode and the problem persists. I'll try a couple things via ADB and if not I'll give up, lose all my data and wipe to factory state.

I'm not sure yet if my app is the cause for the issue but Ill happy to assist with whatever I can.
I tried to look for LRY47I but couldn't find anything .. (I did find LMY471 but not LRY471, is it typo?)
Did anyone install fresh copy (Downloaded from Play Store) and get systemui crash ?
Does anyone who restored a backup file and got this crash still have the backup file ? (can be found under sd-card/calendarstatus/preferencesBackup.xml the other files aren't relevant)
In case it's relevant, I didn't/don't have Calendar Status installed in my device yet I suffer from the System UI error.

Well
I know it isn't "Calendar Status bug", it is definitely an Android bug which is triggered by one of the configurations in Calendar Status (and in some other apps too)
---------- Post added at 06:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:22 PM ----------
I suspect this to be due to 'transparent icon'.
Is anyone who experienced the crash can confirm he had an application (any application) with transparent icon ? (transparent isn't like 'no icon', it looks like an empty spot on the status bar)
I know from one of the backup files which were sent to me it is the case, and might be why the app crashed after restore (the default is white icon while the backup file has transparent icon selected)

i'm currently using transparent icon with no problems. my guess is problem is a specific font/size/number of events configuration is the culprit.

It was a long shot...
The log doesn't say much (thank you Google).
Ill try keep looking for the issue, if anyone have more info ill be happy to get it. (backup files / scenarios to reproduce / any thoughts..)
Bug was found (and submitted to Android issues)
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=163385&thanks=163385&ts=1428445417
What happened was a different notification (the one shown when no events available, like when setting the events interval to small value) was built in a specific way (as described in the bug).
The restore actually restored the interval value and this is why this bug happened after restore.
I believe there are more apps doing the same as I did (it should be fine), I hope the bug will help them to fix the issue (it is an easy workaround).
Thanks for the assistance guys.

Titanium backup pro won't restore apps

Hi guys, as the title says, I'm having problems restoring apps and app data both individually and through batch restore. I've tried changing the SuperSU mounting method, different versions of TB and changed the app processing mode. I've tried it all on the latest version of TB and the version before that. I have no problems backing up apps though. If I try manually installing the apk (after extracting it from the archive TB backs them up to) it installs fine. BusyBox is also installed, USB debugging is enabled and apps from unknown sources is also checked.
I would manually install all the apps, but I want app data restored too and it would be a very tedious job since I have quite a few to restore (some 173 apps) as I just updated to Marshmallow.
Any advice on what I could try next?
No advice, sorry. But I have the very same problem...
Might have been fixed in new update?

TB had an update today for Marshmallow support, so maybe that fixed it? Well, anyway I installed them with adb instead since I needed my phone today. I extracted all the apks from the archives and used a batch to list all my apks in a text file, then added "adb install X:\app dir" to the beginning of each line in the text file then changed the extension to .bat and found that TB would restore app data alone in the batch restore commands.
Code:
DIR *.apk /B>APKlist.txt
A fair bit of effort for all my apps, but I got them all back onto my phone eventually with all the data too. I'm happy now, but I'd still like a solution for future reference.
Todays TB update didn't fix it, at least for me.
Luckily I made the update to marshmallow so far only on a spare N7.

I wonder what the problem could be.... Do you know if there's an official thread for TB on here?
EDIT: I've emailed TB, waiting for a reply.
Same issue. It just hangs when trying to restore on Marshmallow.
I agonised over this for hours last night - turns out that the the fix for me was to switch SELinux to permissive mode.
Install this app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=12506 -- open the app, switch to permissive, and give it another go.
I fogt the same problem for hours messing with everything I could think of and this fixed it thank you very much. I know it's a temporary fix until they get the application straightened out but hey its a fix

Not sure dude, sorry. Switching to permissive mode seemed to fix everything for me - Titanium Backup, Social Contact Sync, StickMount... pretty much everything that needed root.

thanks though
not sure why but if the app is already on the device(older version or with no data) then the restore works
so if i try restore an app(looks like only google apps are not restoring)..then tb just hangs at 0%...
once i manually install the app from the app store., tb stops hanging and restores the data?
maybe this can help someone figure out why restores wont work
I'm having the same issue with Titanium Backup Pro 7.6.0.1:
I backed up and validated user apps and data on my rooted Nexus 4 Cyanogenmod 13.0 Android 6.0.1;
Copied the folder to my SuperSU rooted Xiaomi Mi-5s Miui-8 Android 6.0.1;
Enabled apps from unknown sources;
Set SELinux mode to permissive;
$: su
# setenforce 0
# getenforce
# Permissive

Updated Titanium's backup storage by searching the device for the Storage folder then 'Reload Application';
Set a filter to list my backed-up user apps from the Nexus;
Set Preferences - App Processing Mode to Auto Direct, and Auto Indirect;
Ran a batch to restore 152 missing user apps with data
Tibu counts through the apps very rapidly, but doesn't install any.
I also made an update zip of apps and data in the new device, and updated it from TWRP without success.
What's the problem?
Thanks
Hello.
I'm having the same issue on titanium 7.6.0.1:
I've tried integrating update system apps into rom but those apps disappear:
-google play store
-android system web view
-smart suite
-talkback
-google text-to-speech output
and the most of my apps are not working now.
I've tried restoring a backup of them I have in titanium backup, but when I click to restore it just don't do anything (it stays at 0% for ever).
My phone is now not connected to my google account anymore now and I can't even add it going to Settings/Account.
Tried rebooting phone but nothing changed.
How do I get them back and the other apps back to work properly?
Thanks.
As I have the Pro version I emailed Titanium support with the problem - but no reply yet.
TiBu seems to work sometimes but not other times and support seems sadly lacking for a paid app; so I copied my issue and a link to this thread to their support.

build.prop modification caused loss of root, now stuck with bad build.prop

Hello,
I have a rooted Samsung Galaxy Note 3. I was experimenting with the build.prop file, having made a backup of the original version of it. After making some changes to the build.prop file and rebooting the device, the vast majority of the apps stopped working and what is worse, I somehow lost my root access. My original plan was to revert to the original version of the build.prop file if things didn't work as expected but now all I have is read-only access to the /system folder and I can't edit the build.prop file or replace it with the backup of the original I made. I also tried accessing the filesystem via an adb shell, but I still only get read-only access to the system areas. The problem is now 95% of my apps crash before they even start and I can't even run SuperSU, or playstore. I have Total Commander installed, and it is one of the very few apps that work, but again, I only get read-only access to the system area. All I need to do is delete the problem build.prop file and rename the backup file oldbuild.prop file, but how do I re-gain read/write access to the /system folder??
I would truly appreciate any help, ideas or advice
Thanks a lot
PS. I do not have a custom recovery installed. Just the Samsung stock recovery

The solution would be flashing twrp, then using its build in terminal or adb shell to replace the infected build.prop

Thanks for your answer. I did manage to revert to the correct build.prop file and get rid the bad one. For some reason though, when I restarted my phone it is now getting stuck at the Samsung logo screen with a pulsing blue status LED. I know for a fact that the build.prop file is the correct/original one. So I'm clueless about what might be causing it to get stuck during boot. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

-Hope-, Thanks a lot for your help. I tried clearing the cache, didn't work. Tried a factory reset via Recovery mode, didn't work, so I think I will need to flash the ROM. Do you know where I can download a stock factory ROM for the Note3 that is unmodified and not tampered with (malware free), just the way Samsung released it?
Once again, thanks a lot for your help
