[Q] Nexus s unreachable sdcard! - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the following problem:
I wiped my nexus s, everything is empty at this point. CWM working.
However if I connect to the computer it says, device not recognized.
If I plug the phone to the computer, pull the battery, start into recovery mode, there is no error. If I restart the phone, it immediately gives me the error of device not recognized.
Drivers on the computer are good as my other nexus s is working just fine.
SO I have an empty nexus s without access to the sdcard so no possible way to copy files onto it.
Also I read something about odin, but cannot find anything on the net for the nexus s.
Suggestions anyone?

try a different computer, i used my laptop when that happened to me
hopefully it will work for you

thank you for your reply! tried it yesterday on my laptop and surprisingly it worked! after hours of struggling it worked as a charm there... guess a clean driver system is required for a new phone.

ok, trying to install one-click root on my Epic, i have up-to-date drivers installed, USB debugging is checked, my computer gives me the option to mount and it reads my device. when I go to the run.bat command screen, I keep getting the message 'cannot locate device, unplug USB, re-plug and press enter.' when I do that I get 'aborting script, phone still not connected' message. can anyone point me in the right direction or tell me what I'm missing, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try to do a battery pull on the phone and try that. If that does not work, do a battery pull and reset your computer and see if that helps.
Not sure what OS you are running but the best thing is to do on Win XP.

Can you tell us the complete verbage of the error? I ran into a problem because I did not LITTERALLY UNZIP the rar file before running it. Kept saying the phone was not connected..but when I looked closer it was failing because the bat file was trying to run a piece of the program and for some reason it was failing on it. COMPLETELY AND LITTERALLY unzipped the rar to my computer and then ran it (making sure the phone was connected and in usb debug mode) and was rooted in a matter of minutes. hope this helped a little... good luck

Try plugging the Epic into a mobo usb port.

Your computer gives you an option to mount? If you have ADB debug enabled you should see something pop up in your device manager, but I'm not so sure you should get any kind of mounting pop-up.
Make sure you have all of the correct drivers installed for your OS, and try it again running each command seperately from the batch file. Then post here which command is coming back unsuccsessful so I can pinpoint the problem better.

thanks very much for the responses guys, the battery pull (along with restarting my computer about 4 times) finally got it to do its thing. don't know why it had to be such a pain but i'm just glad i got it to work. again, thank you all kindly for input.

I am having the same problem now for an hour or so. Tried everything I can think of , tried the all in one clockwork , used a different cable....i can hear my computer make that sound when I plug the phone in , and also when I unplug it. Just trying to get clockwork on here , ive read and read and read all the threads I can find. Got good drivers , windows xp. Rebooted laptop and phone at least 20 times ...dont know what else to try

Look in your device manager on your pc while your phone is connected with usb debugging and make sure there is no question mark next to Android ADB device. It needs to recognize this driver for it to connect.
HI
Hi i had that same issue an i went to the samsung official website becaue my phone can't connect to my pc i couldn't see my sd card pop up so the guy say my phone was defective so im thinking you have the same issue as me but samsung is fixing my phone now for free an free shipping i hope you still have warranty on your epic an they flashing a new rom an software on it for me they say to fix gps an wifi issues i had too
Got it to work, it was a driver issue apparently. Downloaded drivers again, completely removed old drivers. Reboot PC, make sure phone isnt connected yet. After reboot, install drivers, reboot again. I also had my phone turned off this whole time. When PC came back up , turn phone back on, connect using one of the main USB ports, not one in the front or anything. You should see windows detect and install the software. Then I ran the all in one clockwork , and here I am now fully rooted, syndicate rom , so much better than stock...hope you get it working! I definitely almost gave up a few times

[Q] USB not recognized

Hi All
I just have got a sensation. I cannot connect to my laptop anymore, it worked fine for a few days, but every time I connect it to my laptop, a message pops up saying that USB is not recognized, I have tried on three computers (XP + Win 7) have installed/uninstalled HTC sync with the drivers.
On the phone itself, I don't get a notification showing the options for USB connection (Charge, HTC sync etc), however it charges fine using the USB cable while connected to the PC.
I have reset my phone to factory default, formatted SD card, have tried another USB cable but no luck.
I just do not understand what can be wrong all of a sudden, once it was working fine last night but not today
Can someone please help? I have sent an email to HTC support already with this information. I'll see what they got to say about this.
Wish If i could help but I'm having the same problem since yesterday And I've tried all of the above with no luck!
Device running in stock rom, unlocked & used for 10 days only.
I had that same problem once on my Desire HD, I removed the sd card, re-inserted it and started the phone, was all good from that point on.
It might work for you too.
Any updates on this, guys ?
I had the same problem..
I used another usb kabel that fixed it for me

No solution for me yet!! i've searched up & down but still nothing.. its getting really frustrating.
i might get rid of it all together after all.
USB & Internet pass-through
I had this problem too. I uninstalled HTC Sync and all related HTC programmes from my laptop. Downloaded the latest HTC Sync from HTC site, and installed. After that, it worked again.
My Sensation is rooted.

i have this very same problem.
tried 4 different computers, windows xp, windows 7 x486, windows 7 x64...
tried different cables... different roms... different kernels... dettached sd card... umounted sd... mounted sd... debug mode... default modes upon connection... the problem is definitely in the phone itself...
the computer simply ignores the connection, no sign of it. the phone behaves like it is connected to a charger, not to usb.
can anybody help us?
I am also getting the same problem now!! I was downgrading to GB, then again i went to JB miui. Then i wanted to format my sdcard, formatted it through PC, and i installed new CM9 rom on it. Now, after the CM9 rom is booting, the device is not recognized by windows!!!
EDIT : Removed SDCARD, then powered off, then reinserted SD, and rebooted into recovery. It got mounted from recovery, and installed a new ROM. Now it works flawlessly!!!

[Q][NS4G] Problem with fastboot and fixing phone.

Hello, I recently decided to root my phone and place Cyanogenmod on it. When I did that I realized my radio was no longer working. In an attempt to just get back to a working phone for the time being I flashed a rom that I believe was just for the Nexus S and not Nexus S 4G. Due to my stupidity I am unable to communicate from the device to my computer using USB. When I attach the device to the computer nothing happens. The device does not even appear in the device manager. I have tried on multiple computers as well. On top of that the rom seems to have put me back into the stock recovery. If anyone could help me figure out just how to get USB working again I would be very appreciative.
I should note that I can still transfer files to the phone using the sd card or via ftp.
Thank you for your time and help.
Change the USB cable?
Yes, forgot to mention that. I have tried 2 cables both of which work on other devices.
What if you hold in the middle of the volume buttons (i.e. both up and down at the same time) and keep holding, then plug in to your usb port? It should come up as download mode. If it will do that you might try using Odin.
Or try a different machine perhaps?
are the drivers the same for the S as the 4g?
do you have clockwork on the phone or have you tried to run recover by holding volume up and power?
just throwing things out.
Hello, I appreciate any and all suggestions and help.
I have Odin downloaded and installed, but the computer can not find the device so Odin can not do what it needs to do. This is even the case in download mode.
In terms of recovery I am on the stock recovery. I was on clockwork but made a small mistake and now am back to stock.
I know if I can just get the computer to see the phone exists I can fix it.
If you can find the full OTA package for NS4G, you can try putting it on the SD card and flash it via stock recovery.
Also another thing worth trying is connecting the phone to an Ubuntu machine and see if it's detected or not.
I have tried looking for the original full OS. I will continue looking, but the different OS thing is a good idea I did not think of. I will attempt that now. Thank you.
I installed Ubuntu and the Android SDK and Ubuntu was unable to see the phone as well. I am going to keep searching for the original firmware to see if that will fix it. Thank you for your help so far, it is greatly appreciated.
I have found the only rom my phone will accept now is
Android 2.3.4/GRJ22/KRKC1 Radio/KA3 Bootloader
Which is for the M200 variant. This apparently the Korean version.

USB driver problems, drivers not being kept

So after trying to find a straightforward guide for installing the USB drivers for my OPO, almost every link says to use the OnePlus One toolkit, so I followed the 'manage drivers' section of the toolkit but for some reason, whenever I come to use my phone with my PC, the drivers seem to wipe themselves out! After I've done the initial driver installation, everything works fine, but after a day or 2, when when I plug my phone in, it will show 'unknown device' or it will show 'A0001' but with an exclamation mark next to it in the device manager and my phone isn't recognized. I'm using windows 7 x64 and the original red OPO cable.
I must be doing something wrong with these drivers, does anyone have a guide for deleting old drivers and reinstalling drivers for the OPO?
Edit: Ive reinstalled them again using the toolkit guide but I dont know if they will keep again, either way, im flashing blisspop now, maybe its an issue with 5.0 stock rom or something?

I had similar issue with lollipop ROMs, didn't find any solution except flashing fastboot images of CMOS12 or simply downgrading to CM11S.

Fair enough, well i'm thinking I may move back to CM11S if things don't work out on Blisspop. If I turn off USB debugging and then switch to camera (PTP) mode and then back to MTP mode, my phone then connects fine. I wanted it to connect so I could copy my Titanium backup files off the phone and onto the PC. In the end, my mate told me about Airdroid and I managed to download them through that as a ZIP file. For some reason, the titanium backup folder isn't visible from your computer, I tried copying it to the DCIM folder and it just gave me a 1kb file. I also tried a new folder called backups and it was empty when I looked on my PC, but the files were visible when using Airdroid and also when I used a file browser on my phone.
Weird stuff!
Just wanted to bump this and see if anyone has a solution or even just an explanation.
Whenever I plug my OPO into my PC (with the original cable), the device, A0001 is found but is shown in Device Manager with an exclamation point. If I then right click on it and chose uninstall, and then reconnect the phone, it will connect and work fine for MTP/PTP modes. If I put USB debugging on, the MTP doesn't always work after. But no matter what, if I shutdown my PC, and then come to connect the phone the next day etc, I have to do the uninstall of the driver then reconnect for MTP to work. Pretty frustrating!
Anyone know why the phone isn't remembered by my PC correctly? I'm on Windows 7 x64 if that means anything.
I'm moving back to stock ROM soon so I'll see then if its something to do with the unlocked bootloader or using a custom ROM. I'll report back if I have any luck
Bumping this again, its still the same on 6.0. I don't fancy moving back to stock ROM, I like CM over Cyanogen OS, but this problem is really frustrating. Every single time I connect the phone to the PC, it will come up as A0001 but with an exclamation mark next to it in Device Manager, if I right click and uninstall the driver, then reconnect the phone, it works fine then. But if I restart my PC, it does the same thing where it cant find the right driver for the phone.
Is there anything I can try to fix this?

a device attached to the system is not functioning

Hey guys, having a little issue here. So I recently wiped my S7 and flashed back to stock using the QG5 firmware. Everything on the phone has been working great. However, between flashing my firmware and now, I installed Android Studio.(not sure if this is relevant or not) My issue is that now I cannot take files off of or put files onto my phone using windows explorer. Every time I try, I get the error message "a device attached to the system is not functioning" I have tried multiple different cables and usb ports, and they all act the same. I connected it to a different computer, and it worked fine, so it is something on my computer. I also uninstalled and re-installed the drivers. Any ideas?
bump still need help. I completely reformatted my computer and it worked, for a while, but now the same issue is back.
