I do not want to restore if possible. I did OTA update to my wife's stock rooted phone last night and now the home key does not work. Back key is only way to home screen. It vibrates when pressed but no action. She is already pissed about her tethering being disabled again. Any suggestions appreciated. I really don't want to have to tell her I have to restore. She didn't want the update in the first place.
Sounds to me like a fxz flash is the best option.
Flash back to 2.3.5 and root.
Flash one of our handy ROM'S that are currently available.
Get your teathering via sqlite.
Then your set!

Thanks. I already had her talked into it. Think I figured out possible problem. I remember she uninstalled ONE of the original at&t apps. Update said completed but I think may have corrupted something. She had a lot of FC today, definitely major issue. Back to stock we go!
Hmm. I don't think it should have ever updated over the air with some of the att bloatware missing.
Atleast it didn't for me.
Well, it sounds like your on your way!

If you haven't flashed yet, you can boot into Recovery from the Atrix 2 Bootstrap and make a Nandroid backup, then after you flash to stock and update to 2.3.6 and root you can "Advanced Restore" the "data" part of the backup to keep your apps and settings.

Long time lurker, but i dont think i have posted before...so sorry if this is on the wrong place/already been answered, if that is the case i would love be be redirected to where i should go.
Anyways, after updating this morning, everything worked fine other that some occasion lag. But when i opened up handcent, it was just a black screen. so i reinstalled it, and still no dice. the default messaging app had the same problem. If someone texted me i wouldnt get it, and there was no way for me to send out a text. then, when my battery went down to red, all of a sudden it worked like normal. i was able to charge it and even when the battery was full it still worked. However, when i reset my phone, it stopped working again, and resumed working when my battery got to red. Im pretty sure those are the only symptoms i noticed...Any ideas on what is going on/what i can do to remedy it?
And fyi, i was rooted before the upgrade and have rooted since. I had oclf, but disabled it before i upgraded.
Shameless bump, I really need help
Only thing I can think of is a bad install of the update. I would suggest going back to 2.1 using odin and then reinstalling the froyo update

So step one of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364
Then follow the installation of 2.2 as samsungs website outlines? Would that require me to restore all of my apps and settings from tibu again?
Thanks

Yea if you are going to flash back to odin you will need to back up all user apps using titanium backup. Make sure you do not restore any system apps though as that can cause problems. Also you will lose your texts so I would recommend backing them up. I use sms backup+

My friend had the same problem and had to go back to 2.1 and re-install the update and then it worked. Seems like the update didn't install correctly on a handful of Captivates.
okay so i still haven't done this because of how long restoring everything with tibu takes, but if I am gonna have to go through this process again, should i just make my first venture into flashing a custom rom? Am i correct in thinking that flashing wont be messed up because of the current glitch i have because it all reverts back to stock as the first step anyways?
So I just updated to 3.1 thanks to BRD, I wiped like I was suppose to and everything seems to be working except the home button doesn't do anything anymore. The button highlights like I clicked on it but won't return me to home. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix this?
I came from tiamat 1.4.1 if that matters.
Thanks in advance and sorry if it's a n00b question, im usually good at finding an answer on my own (hence this being my first post)
Try a reboot.

I've done that several times now, I also just tried reflashing the update and bootloader (this time without the factory wipe) and still a no go
Strange. I had my home button not work on a first boot of the official images for some reason but a reboot fixed it. Actually it may have been the back button.

I would flash back to the official motor images. Pretty sure it will work then. I can't see how it could not. Then try the update again.

Wow I feel like an idiot, i think i restored some things through titanium backup that I shouldn't have. A factory reset fixed it
For the last couple of months my Charge has been asking for the gb ota update. if i choose to install now it fails due to my phone being rooted. Im still on froyo and have been wanting to take the update. I would like to keep root, voodoo, all of my apps, phones settings, and theme. Is there a way to get the update without having to have the phone go into a hard reset? Its just very time conusming for me to try and put my phone back into the condition that it is in now with all my settings/apps. I just want to keep everything the way it is but including GB. Any way to do this?
Titanium Backup. Back up, and install a custom GB ROM. Then restore.

I used to be very cautious with flashing/upgrading. Then I decided to bite the bullet and just learn the ropes of backing up and keeping all the files I need to reflash and get back up and running quickly.
I suggest using CWM 4.0.1.4 for making and restoring backups in recovery, which can really be great- it saved me a lot of time.
How do your restore when the phone has been hard reset, with no root and no titanium?
The custom gb roms comes pre rooted rven with CWM(infinity..tweakstock...humble....eclipse))Get TiBa from market and restore

Since my phone is rooted, the OTA update notification is on my phone. The first time it came, I tried to perform the update not knowing it would fail since it won't work on rooted phones.
It's not worth the hassle to me to 1: return the phone to stock, perform the update, and re-root the phone, or even not re-root the phone, or 2: load the rooted updated here.
I just want the OTA update to go away, keeping the phone like it is for now.
The notification is persistent through a restart, and I don't see a way to clear it. It's been like this for a few days now.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
In the same boat, would love to know if there's a way to get rid of this daily annoyance.
Go to the Android store and download NoBloat free(it has a Android holding an AK)...then go to system apps and look for the update notifier which is syncmldm2.apk, select it, then choose disable only...and viola! Its gone!

You could also freeze Device Management 2.0 with Titanium Backup.

I'm probably missing it, but I don't see Device Management 2.0 in the list, even if I filter all by name.
Do you mean Download manager 2.3.6?
Are you on stock and rooted? I was able to install the update on stock and rooted from kies. I did have to reroot and uninstall bloat ware again but everything else stayed in tact.

Yeah, stock rooted. Obviously I'm lazy with this, but I don't want to mess with Kies either. I'd have to a: reload it, install kies, get it working, load the update, re-root the phone, and *THEN* reconfigure/reinstall all my apps and settings.
Sorry, but I just want the notification icon to go away!
The first app that was mentioned, doesn't work either, nothing is listed as was described. There was one or two things similar, but not the same.
syncmldm2.apk is listed under Titanium as "Software update v3.1201.4.2". If removing that doesn't get rid of the notification, I believe wssyncmlnps.apk is also related to software updates. Remember to "nand you shizz" and titanium backup before removing either as it may cause instability (although it may not). I believe I removed the wssyncmlnps.apk or something similar on my Exhibit with little consequence- probably since they never intended on updating that thing...
I had that icon, I tried to install the update a few times (failed due to root) after a few failed attempts the icon gave up and went away.

All of my apps and settings stayed intact after the update over kies. I just had to reroot and uninstall the bloatware again.
The only way for you to get rid of the notification would be to update via Kies Software. Doesn't work via OTA when you are rooted, regardless if you're running the stock firmware. I just updated the firmware now with Kies, but oddly enough, the notification was still there! I clicked it and updated OTA, and it worked because the phone lost root upon the update via Kies. So yes, I had to update my device twice..
Well, time to re-root and uninstall bloatware.
EDIT: Well, upon restarting device, I am experiencing a lot of force closing issues. I reinstalled ClockworkMod Recovery and tried fixing permissions, but that didn't seem to work. Anyone have any ideas or fixes? Maybe I should reinstall my apps again.. >_>
Most likely you will need to wipe your phone and start fresh.

Seems like it, thanks for input.. I'm going to backup my apk's and data, and everything using MyBackup Pro, so I can speed up the whole process. Hopefully everything turns out good. Oh, one question, when upgrading to official stock ROM releases, you always have to wipe if your rooted?? If so, I never knew that..
EDIT: omg backup app not working! Help! I refuse to wipe if I can't backup my apps!
Sent from my SGH-T769 using xda-developers app
I wouldn't think so, but there is always the chance an app incompatibly with an upgrade can occur and muck it all up.
Have you tried using Titanium?
Ah, I see.
Titanium seems very popular.. I've never used it before. I guess I'll try it. If all else fails, I do have a Nandroid from yesterday.
EDIT: okay, everything is restored and back to normal. Thanks.

Mine went away today, without doing anything.
If only real problems would go away if you ignored them long enough.
Does anyone know how to prevent a software update on a rooted Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0? *
My tablet auto updated to the new Jelly Bean about 3 wks ago and I hated it. *I have since restored my wonderful tablet back to the ICS 4.0 it came with and rooted it. *But 2 days ago it auto downloaded the software update again and will only allow me to postpone the update rather than completely refuse it.
I do not want to have to go through the whole process again. *Does anyone know how I can prevent the update from happening? *TY!

Hooray - it seems to have worked! I wasn't able to find the specific file name you mentioned, but I did freeze 2 "system update" files and that has removed the update notification from my notify list and also doesn't open the update postponed window any longer from the about/software update settings either. Thank you so much, MultipleMonomials, ty, ty!
Still having problems...
Well, it seems I spoke too soon regarding my last post. All seemed to work well after freezing two "system update" files using ROM Toolbox Pro. However, after shutting my tablet down that night and turning it back on in the morning, I have since been locked up at the Samsung logo screen. I've spent the past few days trying to research my options, did the fix permissions, reset to factory default, tried restoring backups (which I didn't have), all that stuff, and I am having no luck whatsoever.
I can boot into CWM6 Recovery mode and also boot into download mode, but otherwise, I cannot get it to load past the Samsung logo and I'm officially stumped now.
Can anyone offer some suggestions as to what I should try next?
Flash a stock-based ROM without wiping data. Make a backup first.
