I am running a CM7 on a Kindle Fire and until just a few minutes ago, everything was fine. But now my Gmail app won't send messages anymore. I can receive messages and it syncs fine, but when I press the send icon, it unhighlights the icon like I've clicked it, but it just stays on the page without sending. I've tried testing to send to several different email addresses and uninstalling and reinstalling but I can't seen to figure out why it's not working. I haven't been messing around with any setting lately.
Has this happened to anyone else? Anyone got any ideas about what to do?
Fixed It
As a last resort I uninstalled an app that I installed the other day (it was the only thing I can think of that was any different) and my Gmail worked again. The app was called Seal. It password protects apps. Gmail wasn't on the list to be protected, but I guess somehow that was interfering with it. I don't know. But my email works again so that's good.
you should try clearing all data and cache and maybe uninstalling and re-installing app.
The same problem. yes, you're right, Seal is the cause. But i need this app to protect some of my apps.

Has any one got this to work? Mine just says it down and try later?
Yeah mine just worked. I downloaded the Facebook app from the market though. I didn't know the phone came with one.

The Facebook Sync that came with the device isn't working for me either. "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly."
Not working for me either. No bueno!
It's not working for me either... I get the same message as some other posters, "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly." I have tried re-installing the facebook app, and removing the facebook account in Settings>Accounts and sync. No luck yet. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I haven't gotten mine to work either. I have the same errors as everyone else is reporting.
I don't see any other way of doing it via downloading a market app either.
I really don't care if it is integrated via samsung or an app, I just want to check it out.
Any suggestions?
Someone should try to contact AT&T or Samsung about this.
Having the same problem here. What did you do to accomplish the same with the Facebook app?
I don't know what happened but mine finally started working. I did root the device but I don't know if that had anything to do with it.
So facebook is now showing contacts on my phone, as far as actually properly 'syncing' I don't know yet.
However, they must have just fixed what was wrong with the connection.
More later
Bloo is an app that'll give you notifications similar to the BB FB app when someone sends a message or makes a comment or even pokes you. Although I have had issues when I try to go to the photo that someone just commented about, bloo can't get there. But it does notify me. I just have to use the FB app if I want to reply back.
Mine worked fine yesterday.

My fb sync is definitely not working either. I've probably tried it at least 15 times since sunday. A few hard resets, reseating battery and sim. Tried setting up fb sync as the very first thing after a hard reset so no other settings or accounts conflicted... Nothing. I would very much like this to work. Whats strange is that in the contacts application the activities tab pulls my news feed, but within my contacts and groups there are 0 contacts that show and I get the sync error saying it will be back shortly in the accounts settings.
any update on this? i really want my facebook contacts to sync.
Still no go for me either :/

Yep, same here. It pulls in my activities, but not my contacts with the very same error. I've read on some other forums that it's a FB error and resolves itself when it feels like it. But it does seem weird that it would get updates and not contacts unless it's pulling that from somewhere else. I'm wondering if it has to do with the security settings I have set up on FB?
Well I finally got it to work. Contacts sync 2 days ago but did have to lynk a few manually. Then it would just have a error if it tried to auto sync. Rooted my phone yesterday day and removed att apps and now it will sync every hour no problems. Duno if either helped but worth a shot.

Mines not working. What's going on? Anyone
Why is the last couple days my Gmail will not check for mew mail? Stock rooted with update done yesterday. I have to open Gmail and refresh and get all my mail I've been missing all day. Doesn't makes sense since it was working before the last couple days. I have 3 accounts setup to sync and none are working.

I'm also having issues with emails pushing to my Infuse. They show up on Sparrow on my Mac, but I have to manually check from my phone. I noticed this a couple days ago and again today.
My stock infuse is has also switched to only rerrshing gmail when I manually do it.
Have task killer, juice defender, sjd watchdog installed but I don't think that is the issue

I also have task killer, BUT, I do not have it running. Only have it in case I need to manually kill something.
One account had 1 email this morning, another I checked manually and one showed up. Not sure what to make of this.

Weird, my gmail is no longer updating automatically either. But it is working on my tablet.
EDIT: Well, I checked my account settings under Settings > Accounts and Sync and somehow my gmail, calendar and contacts magically got unchecked.
I had not heard that it does more bad than good, can you point me to a discussion thread on it?
I had someone else say the same thing about juice defender but did not get a explanation why either.

I had this issue on my Inspire. I went to GTalk and apparently, I was signed out. I signed back in (as I believe this is how it communicates with google servers and syncs) and mine has been syncing correctly since.

What the heck is gtalk? And whats it got to do with gmail refreshing on the phone. Ive never heard of gtalk !!! I googled it and came up a bunch of different things
All day today, no email. Manual refresh and a bunch of emails show up. This is annoying! I thought alot of my issues with the dell streak were solved by moving on but i guess i only moved onto different issues..... so annoyed

Google Talk. Google's chat service. It shows in your app drawer as "Talk". If you've ever noticed, when you access gmail on a computer, you're automatically signed into Google Talk. I was told a while ago in the past (when I owned a captivate) that Talk is what the phone may use to communicate with Google servers (makes sense), but not completely sure. By no means is gmail buggy or have issues because 99% of the time it syncs perfectly and without problems. My time period where it didn't sync was the first time it ever happened since I've had my Inspire (since February). My gmail has since returned to normal.
Do you have a task killer that's possibly interfering?
Are notifications enabled? (in gmail settings - "notify in status bar when mail arrives")

Still having issues with my Gmail syncing. I had no issues for the first few weeks I had phone, but now it is rare that push actually works. I have verified all settings are correct. I had issues on my iphone with email syncing also, so I changed to fetch emails every 15 mins on that to make it useful still. I don't see an option for that on the gmail app though.

That's really weird. The Gmail app has always worked for me, and very well at that (and on different devices). My GF's gmail app works just as well and she uses the Infuse. The only thing I can think of at this point is to go to the gmail application info page (via manage applications) and "clear data. Verify all of the settings again, reboot, and see what happens.

I do have advanced task killer but its not enabled at all. My gmail settings and notifacations are all set correctly.
Gtalk was logged in on my main account. I dont think that has anything to do with this problem though. I have 3 accounts setup and it worked fine for a little bit there before noticing the problem. If it was linked, i would have 3 loggins!
The gmail app has always worked fine for me also, UNTIL getting this phone! Sux

I was reading the help part in the gmail app and there is a long list. I guess clearing data is next for me. I just turned everything off and turned it back on. Ive rebooted today too.

Well, good luck. Let me know what ends up working. Something will.
I have been having a serious ongoing issue with the Gmail app on my droid charge. Before I begin, know that I have experienced this across 3 roms (humble, gummy, infinity) and with two different droid charge devices. Basically, when I hit the send button on an email, it just grays out and doesn't do anything. This usually happens after 2-3 successful sends. It doesn't freeze or give any errors, the send option just becomes inaccessible. Choosing to send through the menu button option doesn't do anything too. The messages don't even go into the outbox, it just sits there and saves it as a draft after I exit. Please tell me I have just overlooked some obscure setting.
What I have tried to fix it unsuccessfully:
Clearing all data and cache for the gmail app
Uninstalling and reinstalling/updating the app
Removing the screen filter app from my phone (read about some possible interference with this app)
Wiping Cache and Dalvik via CWM
Restarting the phone, and also after each of the methods above
What has worked:
Wiping my phone via CWM or Odin (factory, not just cache and Dalvik) but this only works for the first few emails and goes back to the same issue.
I feel stuck and hate not sending emails. I know I can choose another app but I really just prefer the gmail app (that's not a crime is it?) Anyone else experience this? I have searched several forums and tried solutions listed there but with no luck.
this sounds strange... have you tried to add a different google account to your phone and see if it has the same issue with sending? you could then remove the affected one and re-add.
this is the only way to point the finger at the device... if the alt works then its your gmail profile. if it doesn't then it could be the stock .apk for gmail.
Tried that

I have tried with my personal and work gmail accounts as well as my "former" account and all three experience the same issue. I thought of that as well. I feel like I have tried everything, multiple accounts, different settings, updates, removed other applications and whatever else I could think of. Thanks.
Go to application data in the settings menu, find the gmail app and clear all of the caches you can. Re sync and it might work. I've had this issue and it cleared it up.

Idk if you just ignored his OP or what but he already said he tried this.
Im in the same boat different phone. My gmail app doesnt send for me either on my galaxy s 2 att, or my iconia.
Edit: i just read a post somewhere that said if you have seal with root permissions than somereason it keeps gmail from sending... take away itsnroot privlages and reboot (this fix worked for me, hope it helps)
As far as seal goes i hope tthey fix this issue as i like that app
I had seal and experienced the same problem with gmail. Uninstalled seal and gmail worked again. Never could figure out why it was happening.

Seems to have worked for me too. Can't believe that was the issue. Thanks for everyone's help!
I really hope they fix that. Its okay though, I think seal was slowing my phone down a bit. Everything is much more responsive now.

So, ever since the N update on my S7 and now on the S8, my email doesn't push/sync right away at all anymore. I have to go into the email for it update. I'm not sure whyy it's doing this. I haven't set it up that way, have background data allowed, and don't have any battery saviors set up to do this...
Any ideas on this why this is happening?
Nougat's overly aggressive doze is the cause here. Fix: https://androidtutorial.net/2017/05/02/fix-delayed-push-notifications-galaxy-s8s8/
The option under Special Access you want to look at is Optimise battery Usage.
I have the same issue. I have gmail set so that it is NOT Optimized for battery. I still don't get gmail updates (and therefore no notification) until I open the app (usually). Sometimes I do get the notification soon after the email is sent to me. Rather random.
After messing around for a while, I think it is a no notification thing and not a lack of synchronizing the emails. If I send myself a gmail, I get no notification, but I can look in my google account and see where gmail has synchronized. Then I go to gmail and the message is there.
^yep, could be related...but how to resolve?

So, I solved it by going to the app manager and disabling the gmail app. Since it is a system app, it doesn't uninstall it, but reverts it back to some previous version. That version has been giving me the appropriate notifications for every email I have received since.
I think I will look at disabling updates for gmail for a while.

I deleted data for the app. That also fixed the problem (for now anyway)
This has been an ongoing issue for me for over a year. It was an issue on this phone, my S7 edge and Note7.
Often I will see an email on my phone, read and archive it, then go about my business. Several hours later I go into Gmail on my PC and that email is still sitting there, unread.
Actually sending out an email on the phone seems to make the sync update, but other actions like reading, moving, or deleting emails doesn't. I've had times where my emails were still unread on the Gmail website 12 hours after reading them on the phone. I have the app's battery optimization settings turned off, and I have even gone into the app several times during that period and pulled down to check for new messages. It's pretty awful that the sync has such serious issues and nobody is fixing it.
Deleting the app's updates doesn't work for me. It might fix the issue briefly, but it always comes back pretty quickly, even without any updates to the app.
The only thing that fixed the issue for me was installing an app called something like "Gmail Push Fixer". It worked wonders on my S7 edge. Unfortunately, the app requires root so it isn't an option on my Snapdragon S8+.
If you are having these issues (see title), what worked for me was to disable, uninstall or freeze (if rooted) the google app. This means you'll lose "ok google", google lens, etc. everything related with the assistant, but, for me is worth it because sending sms messages to have them show "sending..." eternally while knowing they were received drove me nuts.
Try uninstalling or disabling the google app if you are having issues like this.
Good Day.

As long as I had the Google app disabled everything worked flawlessly (I tested for months)
Recently I had to restore my phone to factory (locked bootloader, wipe, etc)
Now Google and my phone can work together again.
Not sure what changed, but so far so good.
This oddly worked for me
have been having this problem since June 2019with a Honor V10. I too found disabling the Google app was a work around. Strangely yesterday I managed to enable Google update all apps and the sms sent fine for about 10 hours now I'm back to the same problem again. I have also restored the phone and reinstalled all apps from scratch rather than use a back up. With the same issue occuring I presume there must be a software conflict somewhere with the apps I download.
Did anyone find a long term solution that enable the Google app to run?
Cheers n Gone Nick
Whoever stumbles here from google, I had same problem today and instead of disabling Google app, just killing it worked for me.
