no one in this fourm agree with me
I am not very sure about the first one but I can totally agree with you on the ad hoc network issue. Coming from a Windows Mobile user, I am very disappointed with the fact that my windows mobile 6.1 device can connect to adhoc connections perfectly while no Android devices can. In the past, I used ad-hoc connection to share internet with my device, but now I have to create a virtual AP to get my phone to connect.

I am using now the G1 connected wifi to the PC Network Card (without a Wireless router)
It is simple if you have a network card that support AP Mode, I am using on the PC a PCI Card Kraun 300N that support AP mode.
After installing the driver and the utility, I have an icon in the tray Ralink Wireless Card, and with the right click I can choose AP Mode and setup the Adapter as Access Point with the security too.
Don't forget to share the connection:
Right-Click the connection you are currently using to access the internet. Click Properties. Go to the Advanced tab and check “Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection”.
This is simple if you have an adapter that support AP Mode, but before the Kraun Card I was using an usb wifi adapter that there wasn't the AP Mode, and with the Ad Hoc connection that normally you use for PC to PC, there was no way to recognize the PC Wifi on the G1.
I hope someone find a way to use a reverse tethering with a simple ad hoc connection.
i'm trying to find out a way to connect to a computer with ad hoc and share the internet on my G1. i'll let you know what i find

OK, so the OP is saying that he's sharing his PC's internet connection via wifi with his G1.
You're talking about the opposite, correct? Using the data connection from the phone to get a PC on the internet?
There are a couple of apps that do this, but I think they require the phone to be rooted. There's a wifi tether program (for rooted phones) where the G1 becomes a 3G WAP and PCs can connect to the phone and through the phone access the internet. There's also an app or two to do it via the USB connection (I'm not sure if those require root or not)
Here's one app. I know I've seen it recommended, but I don't personally know anything about it.

nope, we are both talking about
PC has internet.
G1 has no inet
set up ad hoc on computer
connect G1 (figure out a way to connect to an adhoc network)
share PC's inet through windows ICS.
PC internet to G1 through USB
Okay, I know how to use an AD-HOC connection using the wireless, but how about using the USB connection to get internet to the G1 using the PC's internet connection...I have searched and have not found anything on this Unless I am blind does anyone know how this can be done?
At work, there's no Wi-Fi and no T-Mobile signal.
Is there a way to use my PC's network connection to provide data to my phone? I have a rooted Android phone.
I´m also looking for this.
It is the same thing we can do with ActiveSync in Windows Mobile: you get internet access trough your PC...
I hope someone can help us with any clue.
Thank you.

Like USB tethering? I thought there was a USB tethering app on the market.

Hi both of you!
It's called ad hoc network, if you have Vista or Windows 7, do like this:
Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> Set up a new connection or network -> Set up a wireless ad hoc (computer to computer network) -> Follow instructions!
Good luck
You forgot to mention the tiny problem that Android has do damn Ad-Hoc support....
honestly just try starting your own network go grab a wifi dongle thats capable and go from there that or get a wireless router and try that sharing the internet connection to the router OR bluetooth connection if your phone is capable ! many different ways ive tried them all but usb tethering ive never heard of out side of wm os
It is possible...
I wrote about this before. It is possible to do via usb cable if you use Sense as it is a standard feature in Sense connection... Just plug in and you can choose to use PC internet connection.
I have done it a lot with my PC

My custom rom (x10 mini pro) support ad hoc as far as i know.
Connectify
If you are using Windows7, you might want to take a look at Connectify. Just google "connectify for windows". I can't post outside links yet.
Direct from their website:
Take any Internet connection and share it wirelessly with no additional hardware, wires, plugs, or chargers
Easily connect any number of Wi-Fi enabled devices to your network including desktop computers, laptops, phones, gaming systems, and more
Don't break the bank paying for multiple Wi-Fi connections on the road, Connectify is ad-supported and free to download and use.

Adhoc can be made to work
Check this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755254
Of course this would need a wifi dongle in your work PC, will admins allow that?
in the newer roms with gingerbread it's an option to do this when you plug in your phone.

Where is this option? Can you describe how to access it or link a thread with instructions?
hey guys,
I'm trying to connect to my own ad hoc connection that i set up on my laptop.
( i want to use my laptop as a wifi hotspot for fast internet)
My phone is a HD2 running the hyperdroid cm7 2.1.0 ROM (android 2.3.4)
my phone does detect the ad hoc network but when i try to connect i seems like it does nothing..
what it does:
It's adding my connection to the rememberred ones. but it's always out of range
the same connection gets found again but it doesn't recognise it to be the same as the other one.
i can keep connecting to the new ones but the whole process starts over again and over time i have an unlimited of the same connections as remembered but out of range..
any one knows what i did wrong or what i should change to make it work?
hump da bump
same problem her any help???
Here's the problem of a newb user of an Android tablet.
I favent' found any similar thread here @ the Forum.
I've just bought a chinese tablet (EM73...maybe Haipad or Irobot) with Ginger 2.3.3 installed by the vendor.
Everything goes right but not the sharing connection with the modem of my HTC TP2 (WM 6.5).
I can do it (through BT or WIFI connection) just if I use my netbook (Win XP home) running WMWifiRouter or CM Internet sharing. The router is immediatly recognized by the pc and I can use internet or SN (like FB) or Skype....and so on with an EDGE connection.
I've tried to do the same by connecting the modem-router to my new tablet, running WMWIFIRouter on TP2 but without seeing the net in the list of wifi connections.
No problem with the router and the ADSL connection that I use at home but no connections appears in the list of the tablet if I try to share the EDGE connection of my smartphone.
I've tried to connect by using an USB cable (using some apps found on the market) but nothing happens.
Someone says it depends of the type of connection (ad hoc = WM; infrastructure = Android)... but I can't find any solution to create that type of connection (is it possible ???=).
Can someone help me please ?
Though I don't have a solution, to help I can promise you it has to do with using ad-hoc. My Sirius and DSLite would not hook up to my WinMo phone because of it being Ad-hoc.
hello, i research one app for Tethering on my ht2 with win mob 6.5. it's for create a network on infrestucture mode (no ad hoc).
Thanks
PS: sorry for my english
what's wrong with the tethering feature that comes with winmo 6.5??
wifi on win mo 6.5 is ad hoc
I'm having same problem here with my HD2!
Need to change the CM Internet Sharing mode from ad-hoc to normal wifi routing. My Samsung UN60C6400 TV is not able to connect to ad-hoc devices for internet use. I know it sounds overkill but I have a reason to connect my TV to my HD2 internet.
I need to upgrade the firmware of my TV but Samsung servers identify my local cable company interner IP address and won't let me download the upgrade.
By using my HD2 internet connection, Samsung servers will identify the IP address from at&t USA and will let me download the TV firmware upgrade.
How I change connection mode from ad-hoc to normal wifi routing?
Thanks!
