I've been advised that Titanium Backup is the best backup solution for the GT-P6210. That's fine and lovely. Apparently I have to root the device first... There appears to be dozens of topics on this but no concise - dare I say 'idiots guide' - to rooting.
I'm a newbie to Android but have been nobbing around with Windows for longer than I care to mention so I would like to think that I'd be okay with doing this, I'm just looking for a nice and simple root guide to set me on my way.
Would anyone be in a position to point me in the direction please?
err did you forget that you've already ask...

Hello, I am in need of a little help. I am a complete noob to android and have no idea really how the system works. I have a Samsung Galaxy S and have decided to root my phone for 2 reasons.. ap2sd and so I can install the lag fix. I have done a bit of reading and chosen the path I wish to take but would like some assurance and pointers. I am also unsure of: If I root my phone does this automatically mean that with a properly partitioned sd card that I can store apps 2 sd or do I still need to flash the handset with a new ROM and if so there I am stuck... I do not know where to begin with searching for the best ROM for me. Also I would like to know if after i've done this will the handset still be able to receive the official updates or will I just need to keep updating it myself!
Here is the rundown as far as i have got so far...
Samsung Galaxy S I9000/XXJF3 Updated!
All the programs for XP i need are downloaded (eg.net3.5/4, samsung drivers)
The root method I thought was best for me was that of TGA_Gunman
The lag fix I had chosen is by Chainfire
I have still to back up the original ROM with ClockWorkMod (Is this easy to do and if I need to use it will it bring me completely back to my original settings for warranty purposes, or is there other things I would need to do?)
Also could someone provide me with a link to the best noob proof SD partitioning method!!
Is there anything I'm missing here, or anything that could be done a better way!! Any and all pointers will be much appreciated....
P.s. I would be wanting to update to the official froyo update when it's available will this cause me problems and if so what must I do!
Thanks in advance
ANDROID NOOB
I don't know much about the galaxy s, but you might be better off asking this in the Galaxy S forum.

Hi all I know there is a lot of guides on here for rooting Xooms, but after trying to root my Australian Xoom and bricking it I would really appreciate if someone can write a guide detailing all the steps from what software is need to how to root and install HC3.1
Like I said I know there is a lot of guides on here but I cant risk doing the wrong rooting process again, as the shop wont fall for a faulty app install twice !
Many thanks to all the devs on here making our Xooms so much better!!
What about this one

Hi yes I have seen this one but the guides it links too are not really newbie friendly, they assume I already know what they are talking about

I had no idea what adb was until a week ago, i just went through it all step by step. Its not that hard to learn, as long as you follow it exactly as written you can't go too wrong. If you have any problems there's heaps of people here who can help you anyway.
There is a few guides in the Q & A section, which is where this should have been posted also.

Hi XDA Devolopers,
I can imagine this thread comming by daily. I've tried to search for it, but all I get is something that, to me is, "Hocus pocus". Clearly I am probably one of the least technical people found on this forum, but still I've got a question, and it'd be awesome if you could help me.
As I said: I am unknown with the whole Rooting thing. I have no idea where to begin. All I have done so far is making my decision on which ROM i'd like to use. Which is the JB 4.1.1 AOSP build #6.0.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1779133)
I've downloaded all the files, but I have not a clue what to do with that. I've read that you must first unlock and/or root an android device, make a backup and then flash and install the ROM.
Where do I start with this? What program do I use to Root my tablet and how do I go on from there?
Thank you guys so much in advance! It really looks like an awesome community, and I really don't want to mess with that, but help would be greatly appreciated.
search for PERI tool to root and install recovery, then flash the ROM u want through recovery.
Do like catfishbilly say and use PERI.

Just read read and read, don't rush. good luck.
PERI is the way to go, although everything needs a lot of reading, I was only reading threads for close to a month before rooting and installing ROMs.
Good luck.

Well I searched as thoroughly as I could but found only one place where the vido n80 was mentioned. Thought it may be best to write about it here since the other thread is locked for me.... My question is can anyone with enough free time modify the new 4.2.2 stock rom and remove all THE BLOATWARE and add root. If so pls write a short guide or something on how to flash it I'm not quite sure with my skills
hey so ive never rooted an android device and the shield tablet root thread is kinda dead and i didnt understand it. so can anyone give me a really thorough explanation on how to root my tablet, also ive already installed lollipop.
Hi,
I am assuming you men shield tablet, not 2.0 version?
It would be best to ask for help in the thread you are trying to follow.
Is this it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/shi...t-root-nvidia-shield-tablet-lollipop-t2972316
I will say this.... It should be as simple as following the instructions one step at a time... Exactly as they are written. If you don't understand it, you likely should read up on this some more. Before you do anything. Asking people will just lead to them quoting the same instructions to you.
Doing this stuff to our devices is dangerous if we are lost. If you value your device and don't want to ruin it, I'd read as much as you can from your device section and learn about the things you don't understand.
Just my 2 cents. ?
Good luck!
