the new user guide (that i wrote) teaches about stickies! and where to find them!
find the stickies in the captivate general, q&a and dev forums they have all the answers you are looking for and way more.
go. read. learn.
this is really basic stuff. At&t does not like you installing apps not from the market "its called side loading" you need to be rooted to fix it and there are pleanty of guides "one click root has an option to enable non market apps" to get a different rom go to the dev sectoin chose a rom and follow the simple directions or for a guide for the entire process http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364
Assuming what you meant was that you want ATT's crap taken off and a new ROM...
Why would you not want your device rooted? If voiding your warranty is a concern it's fine, there are plenty of methods to return back to stock Eclair/Froyo. And there really isn't a ROM out there that's head and shoulders over the rest, you're going to have to play around and see which one you like the feel of the best. Try out a different ROM every couple of days and see how you like it.

If you are asking someone to help you build a rom well... I don't think that will happen. You can go to samfirmwares.com and download a stock i9000 rom, but without root you, and if you don't know how to build to incorporate the home button and haptic feedback fixes, your phone won't work right. My suggestion is to go to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948790
They are all stock i9000 roms with only busybox and root installed. I'm using the stock jvh on my captivate, at the moment, and it works great. You will have to deal with root. It's better to be rooted anyway.

Only replying to that small part of your post, and correcting you by saying no, you don't need to be rooted to sideload applications. SWM (Sideload Wonder Machine) can do it so long as you have the drivers installed and USB Debugging on. I installed several applications as soon as I got the phone, long before I ever rooted my phone, much less installed a custom ROM on it.

Why didn't you use google? There are plenty of places that explain how to root that aren't on this site, which is more an "advanced" place anyways(I use that term loosely, but I get the idea that people here assume you know a little about your phone).
Check out MobileTechVideos, the guy who does those had a three-part, in-depth ROM flash set of videos that explain exactly how to use One-Click to Root.
Edit:
Christ dude, use some decent punctuation and at least attempt to be succinct in your requests. Freaking out isn't going to get you anywhere.

i have been all over this site searching the words ""how to root samsung captivate"" how can i make my search more simple and direct than that??

Hey pros and newbs, like me lol, I need help rooting, flashing ... etc for my LG g2x. Yes I chose it over the Samsung Galaxy S2 because it looked and felt smoother when i handled both. But any way, can anyone create a step by step tutorial instead of clicking all these links and sending me to different pages and just keep it on one page? I really want to learn! I tried going about it but just worried about bricking my phone. If any one could help it would mean alot to me, the present and future hackers for android! 8)
Go spend some time reading in the development thread, There are already many thread with lots of information.
Start here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049154
Please READ MORE. People are not as willing to help someone who doesn't not seem like they have read the basics. Also slow down with all the "I'm a NEWB stuff". You are most likely to get flammed. Try to seem more mature and you'll get better results and answers.
Assuming you get G2x with Gingerbread you would...
1. NVFlash ClockworkMod (Do this right & and it will be hard to brick)
2. Flash Rooted Rom of your choice. (Gain root access)
To answer your most likely next few question:
WeaponX for 2.3.3
CM7, EagleBlood, MIUI for 2.3.7
(Personal preferences)
What OS u have on your computer? Also go see what version of android u have. 2.2.2 or 2.3.3. After y answer those questions ill walk you through it.

Hey guys, Already got the SGS2 with SensatioN ROM 3 on it, so know Android a fair bit really. But for Christmas I got a Motorola Xoom and very happy with it really!
But a few questions, specific to the Xoom itself, rather than Android:
1) Is it as easy to root/put custom ROMs/mods, etc on?
2) Is there any benefits of rooting it?
3) Will it mess up any warranty/guarantee if I did root it?
4) If anyone has one and they've done any significant mods/roms to/on it, then please could you tell me if you would recommend them, and give me links etc?
Thanks for your help guys with every problem I've had so far!
Merry Christmas everybody, hope your day has been great!
Oli
Hi there, i've a SGS2 too.. so i could answer with my experience...
1)its different root a Cellphone and a tablet, but its easy, you need, adb commands on you pc, and the root image, and thats all, find the thread on dev sect.
Then when you are root, just download the rom (Tiamat), reboot on recovery mod, and install it. It's easy...
2) yeah, if you are not root you can't install romsm you get superuser access ( you manage all your device...
3) Yes you lose, but you can unroot it.
4) Motorola Xoom have an AWSOME rom, whos developers are the Team Tiamat... they make pefect the Xoom...
You get the Thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254933
And the Team Rogue, make wonderful themes and kernels that give to the xoom a high perfomance with few lose battery....
i hope this help you, if you need some else tell me

If you are interested in rooting and modding, you could take a look at this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1249798
Also, Android 4/Ice Cream Sandwich rom is in development right now; as a matter of fact, I am using it as a daily driver now...it's just missing a few bits, but it's already super fast, smooth and stable, over clocked to 1.6 ghz. So you're going to have fun.
Okay thanks for your help so far but im gonna need a bit more help than just "adb" because m only a 15 year old lad and I don't understand that?
Also what is missing from ICS, as I put it on my SGs2 and it had quite a few features missing/broken?

Actually, I'll bet you will understand how to do this...just go slow and step by step. There really isn't any quicker way (but you can use the limited adb setup furnished by Mandebrot Benoit).
What's still missing from ICS for the Xoom? So far, only camera and microphone don't work. If you root, you might want to flash the latest Team Eos ICS nightly---look in the Development section for more info.
I ahve a mac too, could you give me relevant links/information towards rooting please?
Thanks

Well, I don't have one so I suggest you search on rooting or adb/fastboot with a mac. There have been threads/posts on the topic.
Ah man, I have no idea what to do to root it

OMG when i started with rooting, i never see the @okantomi Guide... Damm!

Yes that's all that your need for rooting
Hello all. OK I am a new user to XDA however I have both the Galaxy Tab 2 7 and Infuse 4g running CM9 and the HTC Amaze running Energy rom. Anyways my question is that for CM10 on the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, will there be any way that apps can be move to the external sd without having to use GL to Sd card? I have a 16gb sd card and my tab internal memory is 8. I have looked at the CM10 for the gtab 2 7.0 and haven't found any answers. So can someone give me an answer. I want to flash CM10 and need to know if I can do it. If anyone wants to critique my spelling and grimmer, go ahead however, this is not school nor and none of us are perfect writers. Anyways if anyone can answer my question I would be very grateful.
P.S. I am not no noob or newbie whatsoever when it comes to rooting and flashing phones. I have starting flashing devices since last year with Huawei Ascend from Froyo to CM7 gingerbread. Rooted Samsung Admire and Samsung Captivate and flashed (bricked a few times) Samsung Infuse 4 from stock to various roms to finally CM9 android 4.0.4. Right now my active devices are both my HTC Amaze and Galaxy tab 2 7.0 wifi only running CM9. I know it is irrelevant. :good:
Link2SD
Think you have to partition the SD card to primary first , sorry not tried/used it . Hopefully someone can explain better than me ?
Off topic :
If all people can do is correct your spelling and not offer valid help ....F**k 'em ! I can never understand why people feel the urge to do that , it's childish and not really helpful to the question that is asked.
Sean
When they do try and correct someone I laugh at them. I been a visitor to this site since last year when I started to flash, root, etc.. It is like we all supposed to know to spell every word every created. No of us are perfect but it doesn't bother me at all. It is just funny though
I tired using Link2sd but that doesn't work. I do love what I hear from development on CM10 but I dont want to flash it yet unless you can move apps to external Sd card. I wonder is there a script or something I can flash thru Clockwork as a zip or do I have to push a file thru ADB
Ah Ok my bad ...It doesn't work on CM10 .Sorry about that rchad28 , did say i never tried it. Hope you find a solution soon tho !
Yeah a Grammar Nazi is just a troll that thinks it a bad ass lol .
Thanks Sean, yeah since I did not see a fix for CM9 just want wondering if there is APP to sd capabilities. But it all good. I will continue searching for my answers.
Hello everyone,
I'm new to this platform and to be honest a bit overwhelmed. Apologize if this thread is in the wrong section.
I should also mention that I'm not too familiar with technical points.
I own an old Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (P5110) which claims its Android version 4.2.2 is still the most recent one for this device.
So I'm looking for a way to update to a newer versuon, at least Android 6.
My first question is which Android version you suggest?
Second one, how exactly do I do this (is there a step by step tutorial)?
Third one what are the risks? I read something about data loss and completely broken devices?
Thank you in advance.

Mate, I'm on the same boat. Same tablet, also overwhelmed The only response to your post points to some custom ROM page but the instructions are not detailed. I thought I had to throw my tablet but it seems like it still has some life to breath if I can get it a newer ROM (many apps are not supported anymore with Android 4.2).
I think the first thing to do is root the device but where to start? I'd prefer using linux with adb, etc.
There is a lot of stuff here. Is there anyone that has taken the time to write a detailed step by step guide somewhere?
BTW, my intention is not only to revive the device but to ditch all Google crap apps. In an ideal world, I would have installed a ROM from /e/ Foundation, but they do not support the device so I guess my next best bet is some custom ROM that uses LineageOS?
Hi,
First you need to root your device and install TWRP recovery:
More info here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...final-root-single-step-twrp-recovery-t3404779
It's an old thread but you'll get the idea.
See this one as well:
https://www.getdroidtips.com/twrp-recovery-samsung-galaxy-tab-2/
You'll need to find the correct version for your model otherwise you'll and up with a nice paperweight.
After this, you'll be able to back up your current ROM and install new ones. Unfortunately, I have a different model of Tab 2 that has no available custom ROM's so I can't say which ROM is better than other. I would read more in the link provided for slim roms.
To get rid of the installed bloatware and even Google apps I used SD Maid. See my thread below with what's left on my tablet (Disclaimer: it's a barebone setup and not all things work so I don't advise going that deep unless you're willing to take the risk of having a bricked tablet. You were warned!):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...recting-samsung-tab-2-10-1-att-i497-t4079993/.
Cheers!
