My friend got the att note the other day and while playing with it, i noticed he had something that I have wanted since my iPhone days: Rotation Animation.
So i set to work trying to figure out what was done differently with the note's framework that I could edit for the skyrocket framework. Didn't have any luck until I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362354&page=6
So being the curious one, I flashed the zip. Soft brick. Ok, manually push and replace the files. Soft brick. *OH* this is for the exynos based note and gs2, so head on over to the i717 forums and grab my friend's rom with rotation animation. Extract, push and replace the two files. Soft brick. >_< stuck at samsung logo.
and this is where i'm stuck. I'm wondering how they managed to pull two files from the note and just place the files into the gs2. What do I have to change in order to get it working? As far as i've read, the best thing you can do with a lib.so file is barely hex edit it.
Any ideas?
The Galaxy S II and the Skyrocket are completely different devices. Trying to port a mod for the GSII to the Skyrocket would be extremely difficult.
You might as well figure out how they made the mod, and repeat the same for the Skyrocket. Mind posting what you've done so far?
I think you misread it lol.
What I'm saying is someone took 2 files from the exynos note to the exynos gsII, and it worked.
What I'm trying to do is take the same two files from the at&t note and make them work on the att skyrocket.
All I've done so far is copy and paste the 2 files into system/lib with root explorer, and got rebooted and stuck at boot logo

Greetings all,
I've got a p1010 (I know, I know, but it was a present) and I want to alter the framework-res to put a circular battery on it. Yes, it's that old story again.
Now, I've already done this on my phone so I know how to do it. But I'm concerned that it'd be a different matter on the tablet and I really can't risk bricking it.
So, my question to all the clever souls here is, if I follow this process here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849223
am I likely to cause a problem, or will this work just fine?
Many thanks!
Dude, I don't even know if you can brick your tablet by editing the framework

That would actually be the most epic brick ever...
As he stated, you cant brick your tab by editing framework. But you can enter an not too funny bootloop. So to be on the safe side, make a nandroid backup.

Many thanks for the replies.
I guess I didn't really mean 'brick' as such, more just 'make the tab not work properly'. I threw my phone into a boot-loop more than once by being too hasty, compressing the resources.arsc file, pushing the wrong framework, etc.
Looks like I shouldn't have a problem. I was just concerned that, because the P1010 is Samsung's misbegotten bastard child, there'd be something about it that would cause problems. No idea what, I'm still at the noob level with all this stuff.
I'll give it a try in the next few days when I've got some free time. Only thing is..how do I make a nandroid backup on it? Doesn't look like Clockworkmod or Xrecovery exist for this thing..
Hmmm never thought of it not having cwm.
Dont know actually... maybe if you can adb push files if it doesnt boot... i mean the original framework and systemui.

Yes, you can risk this problem by flashing a bad framework-res into your phone but if you will backup your old framework you will be able to restore it via adb from recovery or update.zip.
It happened to me more then one time.
EDIT: Never mind, i didn't see that you have a wifi only tab, sorry.

Yup. Great, huh?
I suppose I can't complain, since it was a gift from my folks, but still..
It looks like I'll be okay. There doesn't appear to be any recovery options for the P1010 and I did throw my phone into a bootloop yesterday by fiddling with the framework-res. But that was messing about with .9 png's and I did kinda rush it.
Altering the framework-res just to change the battery images and xml files seems to be the same procedure across all Android devices, (apologies if this is wildly obvious, did I mention I'm a noob?), so as long as I take it slowly and don't do anything stupid, I should be fine. It's not like I'm doing anything as complex as making my own ROM or kernel or anything like that, after all.
I'll give it a try on the weekend (as long as I don't get waylaid by the wife into putting up Xmas decorations) and I'll let you know.
Many thanks for all your help. If you do think of any issues I might face, please do let me know!
Here love... we bought you a fine present.
Ticklefish: is it an ipad2?
No love... almost but better. Its a galaxy tab!!
Ticklefish: Yaaaay! Thanks!! Did you get me a free 3G sim plan?
No! We bought you the wifi only version. Perfect right?
Ticklefish: ... ... .... yeah... .... (should have bought that shotgun I've always wanted...)

Ha, not too far off really.
My folks bought the Tab but didn't like it as Android is too 'techy' for them.
So they got an iPad2 and asked me if I wanted the Tab for a birthday present.
Of course, it was only after getting it, that I realised that there was a major difference between the WiFi and 3G versions. Still...it was free.
The more I look at this, the more I think I should be fine. It's the same process for all sorts of different Android devices. I may be able to replace the icons entirely with an @id to just show a numeric percentage...but I think that might be asking for trouble! lol
Hi all, proper random but i went out about a month ago now, got in a proper mess and randomly woke up with someones phone in my pocket, its a samsung galaxy s i9000, wasnt sure whether it was a mates or not so announced it on my facebook seeing if they would come forward, but no one has, so i must have found it, im not the type to steel, promise! i have an iphone 4 so ive taken it me being a complete w*nker and taking it from someone as an option. i was thinking may as well try and put it to use rather than just chucking it, its on a 3 network, but its not got sim lock, its phone locked, just asking for a password to get into it, ive spent an hour or so trying to find out if theres a way but havent yet come across a way, if there is one. Help would be appreciated
I have the same phone dude its simple, search threw here (in the i9000 section ,first you'll need to root it with Odin, after you have root go to market and download Samsung galaxy unlock and follow the steps and your done.
*very important once your rooted make a copy of your efs folder(contains your imei number)it can/will change depending on if you flash roms.*
Good luck

Okay, I bought a used MT4GS from a fairly reputable phone reseller called CPR (cell phone repair.) I bought it back in March or April of this year. I immediately rooted and installed a custom rom and CWM. A few months ago I upgraded my rom to CM9 and about a month ago I began having problems. The isses were minor at first, the hardware buttons on the outside of the phone would stop working but I could open the phone and use the ones on the keyboard. Then in the past two weeks all of the buttons would stop working. I thought it was a hardware problem so today I dropped it off at CPR and they took it apart and tested all of the buttons. According to them all the buttons tested out fine. So I have a phone that the only thing that works is the touch screen. Here is the odd thing. If I hold the volume down while booting I get the fastboot menu and can navigate it using the volume keys. If I go into recovery mode none of the buttons work same as in the phone. So either this is a software problem or a systemboard problem. Because my power and volume buttons work on the recovery menu I'm inclined to believe it's a software problem but I'm a little lost on how to fix it. I just tried to boot the phone again and it's now stuck on the boot animation and does nothing. Please help!!!
I was curious if you tried a reinstall before your keys went completely berserk...but no matter now. Sometimes a person will get a bad download though and you can get some WEIRD results from them.
Anyway....this is how I answered on the CM9 Thread if you hadn't seen it......
I've never heard of a ROM brickng a phone especially gradually but I suppose anything is possible. If what you're wanting to do is to return to stock & just kinda "start over" then just go to This Thread and scroll down to the files labeled as "Return to Stock" & download the correct file according to your installed software. Then you can just place it in the root directory of your SD card and reboot into Hboot. PG59IMG files are designed to run from your bootloader and you just answer the few questions it asks as it does.

Yeah I actually did that last night. Got to watch the intro animation from HTC/T-Mobile etc. Still no buttons. I'm guessing that the system board has a bad chip since the buttons tested out okay. That is more consistent with the gradual failure than a software bug. Now if there were a rom made for a phone without buttons then I'd be in good shape. Luckily I found an identical phone on Craigslist for $85 which I feel is reasonable for a discontinued phone. Does anybody have recommendations on QWERTY Android phones for T-Mobile that are better than the MT4GS?
Someone mentioned that Samsung is coming out with one soon but I can't remember the name for squat.
If it's for T-Mobile then I suggest the Samsung Relay 4G. Else better wait for Samsung Stratosphere 2 fior Verizon if you might consider changing networks for the sake of a better phone.
THAAAAT'S the one! Samsung Relay 4G. Thank you kind sir!:good:

Samsung also.
First off let me say I'm sorry about the death of your MT4GS - mine died over a month ago and I'm still in mourning. However, the Relay is a nice little device. I don't want to be accused of attempting to recruit people again, but at the risk of saying so it is an upgrade from the HTC product in MOST ways - some people don't like the screen as much and the camera is definitely inferior. However, it's a nice device. I'm happy with it honestly. TouchWIZ takes some getting used to but since HTC didn't give us ICS, even ICSense... and Samsung has ICS on here with JB to come... I'm satisfied. If you are still curious we have a thread in the G2/Desire forum that we are using until XDA gives us a dedicated forum.

Okay, so first of all, yes, I am completely new to this. However I'm no idiot, I'm just more on the hardware side of computing. Anyways, I've searched the internet for well over twelve hours now trying to get a custom ROM (that I found here, Android Revolution HD 6.0) onto my Galaxy Note 2 (SCH-950). I live in the US and I have the 4G LTE version, N7105 I think... and I'm getting nowhere. I've downloaded the tool kit, Odin, probably reset my phone 40 times by now. No one else seems to be having this problem, at least not that I can find. So, really I just need like a direct instruction on how to root and flash a custom ROM onto this phone. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!
EDIT: (even though no ones responded yet) I tried a few different ROMs and it kept getting stuck at the "Samsung" screen. The final one I tried is Doedexed V1.2. It got to 20% and then restarted. It also looped up at "Samsung." So I flashed over a generic recovery backup I have for the SCH-950 and then suddenly everything looks different, as If Doedexed V1.2 were suddenly applied. Everything works fine... occasionally something is in a different language, but that's minor. I know it's still my voicemail lol. So... yeah... I could definitely use some info now lol
Hey i been around these forums for awhile and I don't really feel like being made fun of because I posted a few times in a panic on my first brick in 2 years of flashing. Yea I panicked I had work in two hours and I was trying fix my phone so I could call my ride.
BTW I did brick bolth my S2 and my S3 (thats why I was in the wrong forum) I Have bolth devices and I do get mixed up once in awhile. BUT
Yes I fixed all my phones there working..
MY stupid question is can a wrong theme brick your phone? or stick you in a boot up loop? Im trying figure out if it was the theme or maybe my computer did it..... I dunno just want make sure I don't do it again I bricked bolth my S3 and my S2 themeing with twrp so I stopped doing that but I wan't to know why it did that....
The phone got stuck on twrp but if I pulled bat. and restarted shouldn't phone of skipped twrp loading and gone to my phone ? I don't understand how I got stuck like that.... it was quite not cool
Is everything ok?

Do you have a Galaxy S2 or a Skyrocket? If you don't know the answer to that question (and your constant use of the term "S2" in the Skyrocket forum suggests you're not entirely sure), then that might have something to do with why you've bricked two phones in three days. Flashing a theme for the wrong phone can trash your phone.

yea just think of the code. thousands and thousands of ones and zeros designed to work together and you change one little thing like that, well it's like going back and time and killing a butterfly where the whole universe falls into disarray and what not. at the end of the day, it's good to follow the instructions of the ppl that designed the code, because, well they designed it to be used, for ex., for the skyrocket and not the S3 or the S2 and what not.
