If your heart skipped a beat when reading that title, I am sorry.
It's not something that has been done.
Also, apologies if this is in the wrong place, but I think it's the appropriate place.
This is an inquiry or call out to anyone who thinks it should be done. I DO.
Or more specifically, if you would like to join me on a quest to make it done...
I have been thinking about learning to develop games, and now that I have an android I think I have a specific game plan, the zone, on android.
I mean half the jobs right now are aimed towards computer programmers of some variety...
Whether or not it's possible to port the xray engine to android I have no idea, but if it's been done with the unreal engine 3, and very well by gamesoft.
I suspect the advanced ai and global scope of ai operations would be impossible to duplicate and give playable frame rates. However smaller levels on a more linear basis should not be so far out of the question.
I see two options, port Xray, or rebuild on UE3.
From what I remember about UDK from my unreal 3 game it's fairly easy to build levels and even the meshes looked easy enough if not time consuming for a beginner like myself...Most stalker fans that I have ever talked to like the level design.
I was just over at the UDK site, and seems easy enough an option to go for, the software is fairly easily available and means half the work is already done (ie removing the need for pure script work), with support for mobile devices etc etc, and I have spoke to GSC before, not about this topic but they are easy to talk to and I think they would support such a project.
So if you think it's impossible keep it to yourself.
If you think it's possible and would like to try it speak up.
It might take a few years, but a test run on cordon should only take a few months to run through possibilities and story lines with a dedicated team.
Come in, don't stand there. Speak up.
My computer can eat my phone for breakfast, and running Shoc or CoP with high settings I don't get great frames. You would get worse on the phone, besides, with the A-life system I think it would give most phones an aneurism. Also consider the fact that when you have mutants coming at you from various sides, a touch screen isn't going to be the best control method.
You would have to create a dummed-down version of it. Oh, also you'd have to write a new engine since it works via a .exe and .dll's, that would be the hard part.
Just trying to be real.
Edit: ok, fine you did touch on those same points. Remember though X-ray was created from the ground up. And yea, my "bretheren" (not literally) in Ukraine are a good group, I used to haunt their boards when I playing the series regularly and there was newer development from the community. And having a dev group which incorporates the community's fixes into an official patch is good.
Over-all, yea, it'd be a bit much to try to get it running with free-roaming and a-life. It'd have to be made alot more linear.
Indeed free roaming is way out of the question, but comparing mutants to enemy soldiers in the likes of modern combat...there is not much different, It's just running unreal engine...
Dummed down yes, to a degree, not so much open land to traverse to get to different places, but there are lots of different small places you could easily (I think) take on, warehouses, tunnels etc.
A touch screen too, it's not ideal, but some games are still very playable using it, again I refer to modern combat black pegasus series, it's the first and only fps game I have liked so far, but I have only tested a few.
In game controls are easy to figure out, in terms of usability, I have already designed how that would look.
Using a joypad via blue tooth would give far better results with from what I have read little to no lag at all on a clean phone.
Creating a linear story line that works in the stalker universe I think would actually be the most challenging thing to do in order to bring the same atmosphere that the PC games have. But the game is somewhat linear already, if you took out those options. But there were only seven real endings for SOC anyway.
You certainly don't need skies to be as nice as PC counterparts, and you don't need the AI running for more more than a hundred metres out.
Again yes, but I don't like the term dummer, it would be a more simple zone, but it would be a zone.
And thats why I think running a linear zone on the unreal engine would work well.
Would you want to get involved in this yourself?

Might I recommend setting it up like some of the fantasy RPGs? Right now I'm playing "Aralon" and can't help but think how easy it should be to adapt it for games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and FALLOUT 3. That said, I'm no programmer, so it's up to you guys. Please hurry, lol.
A note on "Aralon", It's great because you can run 1st or 3rd person. One thing I would like to see maintained is S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s use of the weapons sights/scope while in 1st person. That's my biggest issue with Fallout 3. Good luck and I hope to see you all in the portable Zone soon.
Oh, and PLEASE don't make it an MMO only. I'm really not all that social, lol.

I haven't really posted here before (just rather used xda for learning/issues mostly) so im sorry if I'm posting in the wrong forum for requesting apps. I've done some reading and it seems a dreamcast emulator is still a ways off, but I'm not really worried about dreamcast as much as I am the game ikaruga. I only played this game a few times at a friends house but I fell in love with it. I think this game could run well on newer phones with good processors. I have a droid x and would be forever grateful to whoever could bring this game to the droid and I would totally pay for this if it were released. Just a suggestion..
I would pay for this as well! Definitely the best vertical shooter in my mind.

I agree. Not only was this game beautifully laid out and full of action, it was also a puzzle at the same time. You had to shoot the hell outta things as well as change the light/dark modes to avoid masses of bullets/missles/debri/etc...It was very hard yet challenging and you had to pretty much remember the patterns of each level in order to get further. Like you said, the best vertical shooter i've ever played in my opinion and I only played it a few times.
Ikaruga was fun. Although it wouldn't exactly be possible to do a direct port.. Especially as it's a commercial game where we don't have access to the source and DC emulation isnt great on computers. rRootage (concept based on Ikaruga, nowhere near as good) is open source I believe and was ported to the PSP a while back. Kenta Cho's games are awesome

Ya, I've read nothing but troubles with dreamcast emulation. Even though new phones could handle it, I know that the process is very difficult (even though I know very little about programming/development). Even a game like you mentioned thats based off Ikaruga would suffice. I want a vertical shooter thats not just shootem up but actually has a puzzle-like atmosphere where you have to you use your problem-solving skills as well as be very quick and strategic with your enemies. I was just enchanted by a game that was so difficult when you first started but got easier as you remembered where to switch light/dark as well as handle an onslaught of enemies (who were also more weak/resistant to each of the modes which added for even more strategy.). Almost impossible at first, but with promise to move further if you had good skills; unlike some games that are basically impossible to beat without cheats. You'd think I played this game a lot seeing how much I'm talking about it but I only was able to make it through the first 2 levels or so b/c it was so difficult and I only got to play it a few times at a friends.
Back to the subject though, someone pretty pleeease develop a game similar to this.
hey guys,
just installed a game called Pirates and Traders from android market today..
i'm so surprised that this game is *very* similar with java game for symbian Sid Meier's Pirates!.
what drives me to the wall is this game asking for payment to remove the annoying ads. this sounds like davinci developer.
whatchu think?
well its not like its a game on android that it has been ripped from so cant really say its stolen. ive not seen any other like it for android yet. perhaps they took the idea from the symbian based version and ported it over to android. even if it is a pay to remove ads, people porting games need to be paid to as its not like they can just copy, paste, and change the file type.
Two points:
Firstly, there is nothing illegal or wrong about making a clone of another game; the idea for a game is not copyrightable. If it was, there would not be very many RTS or FPS games available to buy. In short, if P&T was a clone of Sid Meier's Pirates - which it actually is not - there would be nothing wrong with it being so.
Now, if all you had done here was accuse me of cloning this game, I wouldn't have bothered replying to this post. At this point, I've read people claim (with varying degrees of hate or love, depending on the person) that P&T is a clone of 6 or 7 pretty different games - including one that got released 6 months after Pirates and Traders (I apparently own time machine technology ). I can live with that - like every other game ever made, P&T is inspired by many of the games that have gone before it.
However, you go beyond that to make unfounded accusations, which brings me to my second point.
If you have played the game (which I almost doubt, given your comment), you would surely have noted that:
1) Pirates and Traders is a turn-based RPG/strategy game, not real-time with arcade mini-games. In other words, completely different game mechanics.
2) The graphics used in P&T are completely different.
3) The game interface is completely different.
Which makes me wonder - how exactly do you get from there to the idea of comparing me to the davinci developer? You know - if you don't like the game, that is your prerogative - I make games for my own fun, first and foremost. But the next time you wish to accuse someone of being a thief or copyright infringer, please do a little actual research first.

i actully have it on both my lg optimus one and my motorola defy, while its not the most high end graphics hog like soem of the gameloft titles i play, its great for killing time better then poker or solitare. as for the ad's and what not well chit man i look at these apps like i do the repairs i do for people on thier vehicles or bikes, ya its a hobby for me but time spent on x person repair is time i could be spending with my woman or kids s oa little bit of compensatrion would be appreciated as such the guys who dev these apps should also be compensated for there time spent doing it

There are reviews on the Android Store too about this good original game being a copy of another game (usually Sid Meyer's Pirates), but I think the only explanation for those is that those people simply only themselves know about one game on the subject before this, and incorrectly think the one they know was some sort of original idea, rather than the (historical) subject of many games and books and movies and so on. And yes, even if there were only one other game on the same subject, it would not be a "rip off" , and in any case this game is notably different from Pirates.
Hey Guys,
Really loving this community! We released this game on the market last Thursday and only have 12 downloads ATM! We must have screwed something up royally but the only feedback we've had so far has been positive. Perhaps its the name of the game? Or maybe the graphics just look terrible, or what?
Any new name suggestions?
Thanks for any feedback you have!
Erik
Checked it out. I can see where it would be addicting and I'll likely keep it. Honestly though if I wouldn't have stumbled upon your thread here and came across it on the market, I would have never downloaded it. Icon is good but I think the name is what would make me skip it. I don't have any specific suggestions, just try to be a bit more descriptive of what the point is in the title. Also, the menu is a little hard to read and could be confusing for some people I guess. Hope I helped!

The "Fun for all ages" and "Cute fun" text makes me kinda go "eww, a family-friendly game". I think it'd be better off without it at all. A description of what you actually do in the game would be helpful, too.
You cant read the font on LDPI and I would agree with the change of title.
I've not played the game and I don't need too to form an opinion. That is the biggest problem with this game and any game for that matter. People do judge games by their "cover" until of course they get big enough to be talked about/reviewed etc.
It seems to me that you're not really sure who you are aiming the game at. You use graphics that imply this is aimed at 9 year old girls but the language is for geeky teenage boys (and older) with terms like "Rockstah bunneh," or something to that effect.
Look at the comments you have so far (assuming they are not your friends!) They all use wording such as "so cute" "adorable." If this is the route you want to go down then you need to go the whole hog and really target the one specific market.
It takes something very special to appeal to everyone and it may be unrealistic to try on your first game (assuming it is.)
Now I don't mean to sound harsh or overly critical, but this is a game I would never dream of downloading and it appears i'm not alone. With a few tweaks here and there I still wouldn't download it but maybe another demographic would and you could be very successful.
As a final note I could be talking rubbish as I have no particular expertise in the area and your only problem is getting your game recognised in an already over crowded market.
Good luck.

Hello everyone. Firstly i checked it out and have an idea i think you must add an option like using sensors to control the game and maybe the font can be changed.
Maybe then i can help better with my ideas.
Good luck.

This is perfect feedback! Thanks
Now that you said it, I wouldn't ever download a family game either!
I think it was this game i saw on the market this weekend. I was searching for games to play since i had gotten a new ROM and wanted to settle in. I saw the name, saw the icon and the first thought through my mind was "it's probably a little kids game" and instantly just ignored it. I can see how the icon would match the game itself, but the name is just... ehh...
We updated the name and feature graphic. Keep the feedback coming and feel free to make it brutal!
Hopefully with the humor on the graphic people won't think its just for kids?
Just tried it. The game itself is nicely made, but it's not the type of game i would normally play. I see that you have changed some stuff (but not released the update yet) so i can't say if it's better after the changes, but one thing is sure, it needs so much more blood. I want the bunnies to pop like a balloon when they fall to their death.
Fine, i'm joking. Or not?

Hey there, sorry for you, but dont give up.
I am pretty sure its the bunny on the icon and the first splash screen. It neither sweet nor serious. Its rather a bit scary. ;-)
Try to change this. In my view the little bunnies ingame are sweeter than the one in the icon.
Good luck!

I agree in title change too. Don't give up, the market is also not über easy to find new games sometimes cause they get lost in the sauce quickly.
MoPhoACTV Initiative
Use proper English in the description, call it something catchy instead like Foxes'n'Bunnies (REALLY bad example I know, but you can most likely catch my drift), and I would make a more rounded corner icon
I know others have mentioned it, but I'm throwing another vote in for a change to the title and the general copy of the description.
Currently, the description is vague and comes across as unprofessional. The description gives little information about the mechanics of the game, or even the style of gameplay (does it resemble a puzzle game? A 2D side-scroller? Is it controlled by tilt? Touch?). More information would be useful. The writing itself resembles internet memes more than a game advertisement. General touches such as cleaning up the writing (and perhaps removing the speech bubble over the rabbit's head; it looks like it was done in paint) can go a long way towards conveying professionalism from the developers, which helps consumers to trust both your legitimacy, and the legitimacy of the app. I looked over your website, and it does a solid job of being professional. The design seems reasonable (though I'm not a designer), and the writing is fine. This makes the copy that appears in the description somewhat more puzzling.
That said, it seems like you're on to some good things, and I have a great deal of respect for developers who turn to the community and look for honest feedback in order to improve. Thanks for all your hard work; I'll be keeping an eye out for your future projects. Good luck!
I would give it a better name, the current name isnt very easy to remember. A good name will help your game spread by word of mouth since people will be able to rattle off the name easier.
I'm not sure how app makes market their games, just getting it out here on XDA helps. You could start a thread over in the Android App Devs section if you havent already for your app. Theres a lot of apps out there and its hard to get something new noticed.
Definitely not my type of game. I'm 31 years old and write like a normal human being. I never understood the writing style in the game. It sounds like a 12 year old wrote it. If you took the physics behind the game and made another game themed around something artsy (check out a game called quell) you may get a different response.
I'd step away from the drawing board for a week our so and find someone artsy can look at the objective and build a different theme around it.
I have a few suggestions that may help you get attention.
1.) Better name. "Outfoxed" would be an excellent name.
out·fox
verb /ˌoutˈfäks/
outfoxed, past participle; outfoxed, past tense; outfoxes, 3rd person singular present; outfoxing, present participle
Defeat or deceive (someone) by being more clever or cunning than they are; outwit
2.) You must have a catchy description. "Outfox the sly fox before you become his next lunch."
3.) Please remove the baby talk and "internet meme" phrases. Most people wouldn't understand it and the ones that do would just get annoyed by it. It completely ruins it for most of us.
4.) While the newer icon is better, it still needs work. Try outlining the rabbit with a thicker black line in order to make it pop more. It blends into the background too much as it is.
5.) Social networking. Advertise your game on Twitter/Facebook/Google+. It wouldn't hurt to create a small website with a link to the Google Play download.
6.) Fix the menu screen. That font is terrible on the eyes. Clean it up and make it look more professional. The whole app screams "Coding 101 class project". Take some notes from the successful developers.
You have a good start, but without that extra push it will never go anywhere.
awesome awesome awesome feedback!
Thank you guys so much! We will remove the LOLCats speak, I didn't realize its like baby talk but I guess it makes sense.
Outfoxed! That's not bad
So I got to thinking earlier today that it would be kinda awesome to have "net navis" on our android devices. It could be somewhat based on the Megaman games where you would have a character that would "live in your phone" and it could be your personal assistant along with going into the net and doing cool things like in the games. So it could have a practical and helpful use and a game/fun use. It could be an interesting idea that a developer could take and run with or maybe there's even something out there like this already. If anyone really likes the idea and would like to create it, i have a whole gameplan layed out for the specifics. I'm just not too savvy on app making. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Haha, I thought of that 2 minutes after I started playing MegaMan Battle Network (the original game for the GBA)! Unfortunately, I don't know how to code. If I did, I would have made a PET app already. It's crazy that Capcom hasn't and isn't planning on ever doing it. It seems like such an obvious thing to make. MMBN was ahead of its time but now we have smartphones that are just like PETs from the games and anime and we have assistant-like programs like Siri and Google Now.
I'm seriously considering learning how to code and program AI bots just so that I can make a NetNavi program. It would be even cooler if I could make AI programs self aware but I don't think I could ever do that. If I ever learn to code I'll make the app and let you know ;P
I'm actually kind of interested on the "gameplan" you've got laid out Maybe we've thought of the same things.
What I would not like to see this turning into is a fighting MMO. That would totally ruin the concept as NetNavis were supposed to be useful programs and not just toys.
I think i would like to get into this once i start getting the hang of doing android development. i already do other kinds of development including web based and some back end game development.
Let us know if you do. I would soooooo love to make the program but even if I did know how to code it would still be incredibly hard. It should be some sort of launcher and not just an app. Kinda like the way Facebook Home works: it doesn't take away important features but it customizes the whole experience in order to do its job. That how I imagine this. You get a call and, instead of ringing, your phone vibrates intensely and when you get it out of your pocket your Navi says something along the lines of "X is calling you. Wanna pick it up?". Of course Navis would speak differently depending on who you are (age, job, personality etc). When somebody sends you an email, your Navi would say "You got an email from X. Want me to read it?".
On to the interface, I think most of it shouldn't be easy to customize. Everyone should start off with a default gray humanoid Navi and from that point on, if somebody wants a custom Navi they should program it themselves so that they can make it look exactly the way they want it to look. There shouldn't be a Navi customization feature where users can pick a set of eyes, ahead shape, a helmet etc because that would make it too childish. The maker of the program should offer advice on how to create a custom Navi an should make that possible to do but that's about it. Remember how in the game not many people had custom Navis?
If you ever need alpha/beta testers you know who to ask

Yo I honestly think this is a good idea. Ive been DYING for an app like this to come out. You could combine something like iOS Siri and a Launcher/Theme app with a netnavi sort of mini game rpg type thing close to the gba game. You could customize the everything about the netnavi and level up find new weapons battle other people and all kinds of things as it progresses. It could make a whole lot of money too it could end up as its own Operating System like in the game. A real artificially intelligent app/OS game or whatever you could take it in a whole lot of places really. Someone needs to work on this idea.

Well, if I were to make a NetNavi program it wouldn't be a game. It would be a useful AI virtual assistant that would sort of combine Siri with Google Now. Like, it could intelligently predict what you wanna know and would know if you are interested in something specific during that time (like, say, an upcoming video game release) and it would help you with your life so that you don't have to open a billion different apps in order to do a single thing. One app (or rather, one OS) would be able to do everything and people would be able to download add-ons but not apps. The experience would have to be uniformed and everything should be accessible by the Navi so that it can do its job.
Of course, it could still have a gaming aspect. In the GBA games and in the anime NetNavis are personal assistants/anti-virus programs first and online gaming avatars (NetBattlers) second. So that would be nice. People who are only interested in a personal assistant could use the Navi that way while people who are into gaming could also train them to battle.

That sounds perfect lol i mean i honestly think it can be done and would love for thos to happen. Someone could even make a custom ROM or something or Launcher for now til it gets out there and does good cause all that coding and programs to make this would be expensive in the beginning. Someone could create an add on to a rom already til it gets popular or anything really lol i jus wanna see it done i been waiting since i was a kid and i know its possible now.

Hahah I've been waiting for it since I was 6 xD (I'm 15 now)
Now that I've finished all the 6 MMBN GBA games I want a NetNavi / PET more than ever. And since nobody is making one -even though it seems so obvious and the resources are here for the most part- I'd be happy to be the one who creates it IF I had a team of scientists, engineers and programmers to help me. But I don't. And I don't know how to code. But if I ever learn how to, I promise I'm gonna do everything I can to make this a reality for everyone.

The resources are ~mostly~ here. What about the killer AI? I don't think we could make such smart bots... Maybe in a couple of decades and with enough dedication.... Actually, we might be pretty close; take a look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Tqt2TurCnI (you're gonna love it). Gotta get more info on this thing. Also, take a look at this amazing concept: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8iGWzG5wyU .
I think I'm gonna work on some "prototypes" (sketches and stuff) during the summertime once the finals are over. It would be fun. And who knows. I'm interested in programming so I might learn how to code and make a working PET prototype one day :silly:

This is exactly what I was hoping for when I posted this a while back. I'm glad its been seen and talked about. I personally don't have the time or skills to do it but I have the ideas and concepts of how it should work and how it should look. If you are able to take it and run that would be really awesome. Like I said before, I'm just glad I'm not the only one who thinks its a good idea!

Hey guys, hope this is still an open topic because I've been planning on starting a project to create an AI suitable for an app like this, then continue to work on it until it becomes a general AI. (or "super AI" capable of emotion, perception, interaction, education etc. like how human are to an extent) I've been a fan of Megaman for a while but took most interest in MMBN series because of the net navis and what they could be capable of. Toonwar, do you mind discussing to me your game plan lay out for this? you, or anyone else here really can just E-mail me at "[email protected]" in case Im not online at the moment or something. look forward to the dawn of navis and maybe a team that could help!
Hey guys:
Just wanted to say I'm passion too about AI...and love net navi's and megaman in general. I think it would be pretty cool if we could put together a team...even if not everyone can program well...we can all put our minds together and start getting the ball rolling right? Looking forward to this..

I like the way you think! Is there any skill you might have to help contribute to this project?

I also usually focus on front-end development (web design)...but i've studied Java Programming for a few years, so i'm quite familar with java...and I don't think learning the Android SDK would be a massive difficulty...

So you're best at making websites? The way I always envisioned the "jacking-in" and net navi battles would be a website based for navis to battle or meet up (because of course the internet doesnt look like it does in the show, and if navis could discard viruses there wouldnt be a fun battle that comes with it) so I think your skills would become really helpful later on in this! At the moment I'm actually learning the adroid SDK and java coding so that I can know the basics for starting an app for the AI's. It seems like youd be willing to help out in this? It'd be sweet if we could start a team!

Yeah i'm definitely willing to help out. My schedule is pretty busy thesedays with University classes and such...but I think we might be on to something. I'll pm you my email and we can talk more there. And i'm also learning about the Android SDK too more closely thesedays.
Hi. Don't take as self adv., but I'm newbie developer, who released few aps and just released one game 3 days ago.
As XDA is the forum where gathered all experienced guys, I wanted to ask for some advices regarding the game.
(Can't attach the links, but it's easy to find by name "AMAZING CIRCLE")
How do you think, is name and icon of the game attractive enough? I don't plan to spend money for promotion, and from 3 days in market, game got 150 downloads. Any advices how to promote game for free?
Thank you for all your replies :cyclops:

I decided to give your game a go. For a first release this is pretty good. I'm not a dev, but a few comments:
1) The game mechanics work well, and i think it's a good enough time-passer
2) Your Google Play listing has poor grammer, I would look into getting this checked by a fluent speaker.
3) The ads are extremely annoying. Enough so that I'm going to uninstall. I understand that this is probably your main monetization strategy, but covering up the "restart" button with an ad is clickbaiting. I don't mind ads so long as not made to accidentally click them, and by doing so it's infuriating me more than failing at the game itself.
4) The graphics are way too minimalistic. I understand you haven't got a AAA budget, but a few tweaks would everything look much better. White background is very dull. Also, if possible I would replace the circles with some textured vectors. If the whole thing looked like balls a tabletop it would much better. If you look at something like flappy birds, the art quality is very high (even if borrowed).
Not trying to slate your app, just giving my honest opinions.
Thanks for reply, darkdreamingdan.
I will check my grammar for sure, didn't see any mistakes Don't have native speaker near though.
I fully understand that interestial ads are bad, but when I tried just banner ads, they brought me like 50 cents per day maximum.
I made a research and almost every game with same kind of idea uses same kind of iterestial ad showing system - unexpected by user.
I'm sure, if I remove the interestial ad (which is shown once per 5-8 replays actually), i will get less than 0.5$ per day which is not great...
(now I'm getting about $10 per day, and game only on market for 3 days)
And basically, users are not offended on this type of add (if I consider what they write in reviews, only few mentioned this).
Finally, just turn off your WiFi . Plus, there is an Ad Free version for a very small price.
BUT. I decided to look, what will happened with app today (how many installs / uninstalls) and on base of it, I will think what to do next.
I'm thinking about graphics as well now... No ideas.
But thank you very much for replies.
Well study your market and create a plan
before making any game just don't jump into the war . there are really big companies are there like gameloft. sometimes you don't have a proper concept but graphics make you better. sometimes concept is better but the overall management is not uptothe mark. well there are ample of ideas available for you.
study, study and study. create plan. do some sort of survey. see some online polls which kind of games are going on these days. what people are liking. before doing that make sure that you knows your right audience. i mean whether it is going to be played by youngsters or it is for smaller kids. you need to add things accordingly.
well you are asking for ideas i know then you knows about these things. as per mine experience in gaming industry, i think you should do market study. sometimes great concepts come from it. ..
