[REQUEST] Script/mod/app to randomize bootanimation - HTC Sensation

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434950
In the gnex forum, they have an awesome script that randomizes boot animations. I think this is very cool and I was wondering if this already exists for our sensation, if not, maybe someone who knows codes can make a flashable script? It seems simple but our roms does not seem to have a init.d support... I have no idea what that is.
So, if this was a repeat of some thread, mod, kindly link it to the correct one. If not, maybe we can use this as some sort of petition? So feel free sign or say +1 or click thanks if this is helpful in some way.
Thank you.

No one wants to make this script work for our sensation? I am surprised this doesn't exist yet at all. Unless I just missed it completely. I already tried asking...very nicely and without spamming...how to get it to work as the original gnex script creator said it can be used on ANY phone in ANY rom as long as the kernel has init.d support. But still no kernel Dev has answered this question. Oh well.

Woo that would be cool, as i like many Boot Animations!

Actually that's just for installing boot animations, and what k8sh says is to have many of them and in every start up it pick up one ramdomly.

That's right. The script assigns a number to each bootanimation zip file and then every boot, you see a different animation. It seems really simple but I have no idea how to get it to work as I don't know much about android codes etc. I'm really surprised no one has picked up on this. I think it is so awesome!

Of course. I already tried. That's why I know it does not work. I'm currently on a rom with sebfms kernel. Either it is rom related or kernel but it definitely has something to do with init.d. folder in the system/etc folder. My current bootanimation is stored in system/media and the script is looking for the files in data/ local. The creator of script said it bypasses the system /media and uses data/local where various bootanimation zips are stored. I don't know. The script is not being called upon boot. I give up. Those who knows how to make it work are not exactly paying attention.

Just taken a look at the script and it is good to go, all you need is your custom bootanimation.zip files in /data/local/bootanimations/
If the script is not being loaded on boot it is because your ramdsk (the other half of boot.zip, 1st half is kernel so kernel + ramdisk = boot.img) doesnt have inbuilt init.d script support

I'm sorry but if people can't read I will start to lose my temper.
It is stated in both the OP of the original thread and in my last post that;
1. You need a ROM that supports init.d script
2. Bootanimations should be renamed to whatever then placed in /data/local/bootanimations/
Seriously how hard is it to read 1 post above yours

You just randomly post unuseful and uninformative comments in threads to be a douche? You achieved your objective.
And yeah I reboot my phone since I go to recovery to flash zips. Ever heard of those? Apparently that concept eludes you.

Correct.

There is a app I came across called BootRandimation.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gflam.randimations&feature=search_result
I have never used it so I don't know how well it works, but it is supposed to do what you want.

Tried it but it didn't work. I only tested it real quick though. The developer should at least have a trial version as it takes longer than 15 minutes to know how to set it up and reboot. Thanks for the heads up on the app.

Just flashed the 60mb file from the link in op, works fine. But I am running aosp and bricked 1.6 kernel. If your phone runs init.d scripts at boot this will work. Is a nifty idea tho, cos I have 20 different animations so will be a surprise everytime I reboot.

Why do I not have boot animation sound?

So much information posted about animations but so much confusion as well.
I've read post after post of animation information but nothing that seems concise. My phone is an HTC Incredible so I do not need any information about any other phone because as has been found several times over; different phones have files in different places. No matter what tutorial/advice I follow, I am simply unable to get the sound to work for the boot animation. The splash works and the animation portion of the boot animation works but the sound is out-to-lunch.
That being said, I have the splash and animation files; bootanimation.zip and android_audio.mp3, both located in the /data/local directory. I have also tried to put them into the /system/media and /system/media/audio, respectively but that didn't seem to work. I have even gone so far as to change the folder part0 to android and modify the desc.txt accordingly; and yes, I saved the desc.txt [480 720 22p 1 0 android] in UNIX format in Notepad++ (Edit >>> EOL Conversion >>> UNIX Format, File >>> Save). I repacked the android folder and desc.txt file into a bootanimation.zip using 7zp; Archiver format [zip] and Compression level [Store]. I have even attempted the process as described at jonamerica.com/technology/updated-root-the-htc-droid-incredible; Updated: Root the HTC Droid Incredible and no-go, no sound.
Anyone have any suggestions? And, please, I am interested in HTC Incredible information only; preferably specific to my setup, if available. I've had enough confusion to last me a lifetime already.
Thanks!
Phone: Verizon HTC Incredible
ROM: CyanogenMod v6.1.0
Splash: Android peeing on Apple - HTC Incredible
Animation: Cyborg Boot Animation
I too am frustrated with this! hopefully someone can shed some light, I want my "DROOOID" boot sound!

I'm sure you're right and it is fine for a ROM maker to not include anything, but it "should" be simple to add one.. which leads to the next comment below..

they should.. maybe it isn't a stock feature in stock android, maybe Motorola and HTC had to code it in to make it work... I personally was excited to get the droid eye boot animation and sound when we got Froyo and I would still like both.. it's part of "making it your own" and isn't that what custom roms are about? I suppose in the big picture it isn't that big a deal.. the goal is to NOT see your phone booting but I can't help but enjoy the extra customization a boot animation with sound brings. I'll do some more Googling.. maybe you're right and CM just doesn't support audio at boot..
Thanks
I didn't read any of the reply's but I do know when I put "android_audio.mp3" in the same folder as my boot animation with Skyraider, it played a sound.

I guess try putting the audio file into system/customize/resource thats where the bootani is located on sense based roms...our phones are meant to have sense so cant hurt

Right, I should have added that it all works as expected on Sense based roms.. just not on AOSP ones.
I'm using Nils Z Sense rom, and couldn't get it to work until I edited the build prop to enable usb notification sound line from 0 to 1, it has worked ever since. Hope this helps you!

I also found this thread, not sure if it'll work as I'll also have to try that later (at work ) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787210
I found THIS and wanted to pass it on. I'm not sure if it works on all AOSP ROMs but I plan on trying later if I have time. I know 100% it works on CM7 and when I have time I'm going to try it on OMGB which I just switched too (awesome, light, fast vanilla ROM FYI!) I'll post results asap!

awesome! glad it worked, I never had time to try it last night so I'm glad to hear it works with other AOSP roms, might be safe to say it'll work with all. just remember to Nandroid people!
Does anybody know if there is a way to decrease the volume of the bootsound?

pull the android_audio.mp3 file off the phone and put it through a audio editing app and decrease the volume. then push it back to the phone. that's how I would do it.

[MOD of ROM]Frayo v1.1 - 1/12/2012 (FroyobyLaszlo mod)

Ok here's my little FroyobyLaszlo mod. YES ITS A TERRIBLE EVIL WINZIP
Pretty much all the credit should go to him (Laszlo) for this ROM!
Once I start doing some more advanced tweaking then I'll be able to give myself some credit without feeling guilty
Pretty much the main new feature is that you can customize what system apps to flash.
Changes:
-complete
~in progress
Code:
~1.2
~system mount as rw on boot will become an option
-1.1
-system mounted as rw on boot
-customization(install.txt)
*So all those apps I removed can now be customized if they install or not
-updated LauncherPro to latest version 0.8.6 as of 1/9/2012
1.0 (from froyobylaszlo)
-edited update script, made the installation a bit more detailed and informative
-removed calendar
-removed onscreenkeyboard (faster! use your slide out keyboard!)
-removed livewallpapers picker
-removed text to speech
-removed protips widget
-removed voice dialer
-added stock sounds and fonts
-added gmail
-added youtube
-changed bootscreen
Download:
1.1 - ROM: http://www.mediafire.com/?unp8qba8pp7rqas
Install Config: http://hostfile.org/install.txt (rightclick>save as...)
1.0 - ROM: http://www.sendspace.com/file/o2auyh
Install Instructions:
First of all you need to have radio 2.22.27.08/2.22.28.25 & hboot 1.33.0013d. Instructions on install are here.
Then you should partition your sd like so:
swap (i really recommend it) somewhere around 120 plus/minus 50mb...im being very approximate here...it depends on how much space you're willing to give up
ext4 (recommend it too) depends on how many apps you want...512mb will probably be enough for most
Wipe your phone with a superwipe. Then do all the wipe options in recovery and do "repair ext"
Download the needed files.
Open up install.txt with your favorite text editor and edit it to what you want to install. Default is everything install. Don't add any extra spaces or anything to the file. Only change "yes" to "no" and "no" to "yes".
Copy frayo-signed.zip and install.txt to the root of your SD card.
Flash it in recovery.
Once its done reboot and follow onscreen instructions to sign in and stuff (or you can skip).
Now here are some settings you need to set:
If you have sd-ext partition:
Settings>Extras>Application>Allow moving
Settings>Extras>Application>Install Location>Sd-ext
If you have swap:
Settings>Extras>Performance>Swap
Recommended:
Settings>Extras>Performance>Lock Home in Memory
I don't recommend changing CPU settings
To fix black clock in notification bar:
Settings>Extras>User Interface>Reset UI Tweaks
I really recommend you turn off market updates, the new market is too slow:
Open terminal emulator.
Type
Code:
su
pm disable com.android.vending.updater
If the market manages to sneak in an update before you do this go to Settings>Applications>Manage>Market>Uninstall updates
Reboot and Enjoy!

if your going to make an aosp rom do a gingerbread, froyo never has been too perfect for the g1. granted there are a a few out there that run pretty well (laszlos and im sure yours) but the devs seem to get 2.3 working a hell of a lot better then 2.2 on the g1s
frankenbread?
Ill see...
I just think gingerbread will be too slow
I'm actually compiling aosp froyo for the g1 right this second
Just to try it out
And I think my computer might not be powerful enough to compile gingerbread...well I don't think so but that's what the android source site says
According to the android source site id need a lot more RAM...
We'll see, because I also don't have enough space for the gingerbread source, and I don't want to repartition my drive right now because activating windows was a pain already last time

[boot animation] zelda boot animation ^^ V2!

hey guys i just made a Zelda ocarina of time high res intro bootanimation^^
respects go to this video on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8DbnGlpq5M for the base of the boot animation and the sound. Nintendo for the amazing game and me for my time
the video is set to just play, my phone usually boots about half way through it but oh well first time making one ^^
push both files to data/local and all should be grand
also depending on which rom it could also be in system media (cm7 type roms) or in system/customize in some sense roms ^^
also for the wildfire i know the audio cuts. nothing anything i can do
and for users that cant get audio to work with cyanogenmod 7 roms try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1364636 although im not sure if this will work on cm7 derrived roms.
that being said i have went back to the drawing board and i feel i have improved these greatly, i removed the n64 intro to improve the sinc with audio and they are far less choppy ^^ but should anyone want to make it faster or slower open the zip, edit the desc.txt file. the last number on the first row if frames per second. ^^ so download time
EDIT: download links added to one rar file. rename your prefered one to bootanimation and use
commments and suggestions please DOWNLOAD
if anyone wants this resized for a different device pm me with the screen specs and ill do my best

Themes. Updated!

Hey everybody! I'm new to the forums, and I've just recently started modding and theming my phone myself, and I've found how much I enjoy it. So I figured I'd start this thread as a theme request thread. Any themes that you guys might be interested in, just post it here and ill try my best to create it. So far I'm working on an HTC theme and an ICS theme, these are both for the miunia rom.
I'll probably make the themes in order of popular demand, so just let me know guys!

Good job. I agree with your advice on flashing one at a time. I've flashed multiple files at once a few times. Its booted fine, and its boot looped me, with no rhyme or reason.
Are you planning on doing anything for ec09?

Yea same happens to me. I need to make an account on a file hosting site so there's no file size restriction and so it just makes it easier. And yes I am. I'm just gonna touch up a few more things on this theme, and then ill port this one to ec09 and I'm working on an ICS for ec09.

[WIP][PORT] Blade v4.6.0 - Android 4.1.1, Sense 4+

Blade v4.6.0
This is a ROM port from the HTC EVO One X by theDroidfanatic. You can see the original thread HERE.
As of today, 1-31-2013, this is NOT flashable!!! The updater script is still set up for the One X.
The reason I'm releasing this is because my Shift is down until my new flex cable comes in and I can't test anything so I'm asking for help. So far I've been through the majority of the ROM and I feel confident I've made a good start.
The ROMs I've used for parts are JellyBelly v6: Ultimate Edition and StockMod. I've also referenced Legendary-Infamous, MikRunny, and newRUNNY to see how they're put together as well.
I started by modifying Strapped365's JB Kernel in JellyBelly using this [GUIDE] How to port sense to non-HTC devices. Then using various other guides here on XDA, I've been modifying the port ROM to work on our device. I can put together a change log later after work. Now where I am at with this at the moment is the updater script. I've been through the rest of the ROM and think I have a good start but I haven't done anything in the META-INF folder. I am still reading up on how to write my own updater script but I'm not capable yet so those who want to help, this is my immediate need. In the past I was able to get a sense 4.0 One V port to boot on the Shift using an AOSP updater script but I think it may be necessary to write a new one so this will load right. I am a little unsure about the build.prop edits I've made going from GSM to CDMA so that needs to be double checked.
Any and all help is appreciated!
Thank you very much theDroidfanatic for your incredible work and permission to release this.
Change log
2/01/2013:
There is still A LOT of work to be done for this to boot.
Using JellyBelly v6 Ultimate, Changed the kernel using THIS and THIS.
I moved several apks from system/app to data/app to get the system folder down to 423MB
Changed the bootanimation
Changed the system lib modules by adding, overwriting files from base
Changed the system/lib/hw by adding, overwriting files from base
Replaced system/usr/keychars and system/usr/keylayout with system/usr/keychars and system/usr/keylayout from base
Went into system/etc and replaced vold.fstab, /wifi and /ppp with the ones from base
I'm not sure what to do with the Framework folder yet so I left it alone
Edited the build.prop
Also Reserved...
good luck with this, itd be great to see a functioning sense 4+ rom
Sweetness. I'd like to be a tester when you fix the update script.

Ill download and change the updater script. Really all that need changed are the mmcblk0pXX mountpoints. But that's not going to promise anything lol

Dude, it would be absolutely awesome to see a sense 4 rom on the shift. Props for putting all the time and effort into this, your shift will be in my prayers.

You guys are making me a little nervous. Keep in mind it may not work even when the updater script is fixed... others more experienced than I have tried to do this unsuccessfully.

Nervous? Nah if they don't read the OP its their fault. Also no matter how effed the updater-script is it shouldn't flash for anyone because of the update binary

Ok I've been trying to figure out how to move forward with this and all I can figure is to start fresh using my ego 4g. Fortunately, JellyBelly Ultimate is on the evo already. Thanks bilgeryan. If I can get it to work that way, surely we can port it to the shift. If any one wants to digin and do whatever your creativity leads you to do then by all means do it. I'd like this to be a community effort as much as possible. Especially "sense" I'm not a dev. There's A LOT I don't know.
