Battery Drain - T-Mobile LG G2x

Sorry for making many thread, But I'm curious.
ANd need some help
How normal is this? ...
Idle: 216/216 Screen off
No Data No Wifi No GPS No bluetooth No sync
And I'm getting drain like this? What's happening?!?!
Or are the readings just wrong?

i was about to make a thread but saw this and thought id fill in it.
Well my g2x has been quite dissappointing lately..
When i first got it, the battery life wasnt that bad. Even had data/refresh and Auto brightness and it would last almost all day.
But the past couple of months its been unbearable. I would have to charge my phone at any oppurtunity, even at work. After 100% charge i would check 30min later and it would be already at 83%.
I'm on the latest CM7 nightly, and have also tried juice defender (no use)
Im contemplating on just doing a CLEAN install of the nightly but i dont want to start all over again because its a pain.
Any input? Or is it just the crappy battery?

It could be the battery. Your case is different from mine..
My battery is tested with Battery Monitor Widget, and it says my battery is about 1540mAh.
The thing I'm confused about is the battery drain.. It's quite high. 200mAh + at 216mhz

Try clean install, don't use any of those scripts (like V6 SuperCharger), those are wakelock city.
Now, go into spare parts and check your partial wakelocks and uninstall apps that have huge wakelocks, facebook is a battery hog.

clean install of cm7?
or clean wipe of phone back to factory then root/install cm7?

Clean install of the rom you're using.

I was having horrible battery drainage also. I replaced the usb cable and ac charger and it made a huge difference. Faux kernel also helped alot. I get a little over 8 hrs with moderate to heavy use.
EDIT: wait that wasn't even related to the op but the other scenario.
Sent from my LG-P999

Yeah, I tried a clean install...
After clean install, the only app I installed was this. And boom high usage.

all wipe first and flash or agian.

Wipe user data, /system, and dalvik cache. PM me if you're unsure where they are.
Sent from my amazing LG G2x running Bionix Reloaded v1.4

I have the same issue on my G2x. I have replaced battery with a 1800mAH and a 3500mAH extended. But the drain is the same with every one of them.
Have tried FAUX's kernel with SetCPU and the recommended settings, but to no avail.
Did a clean install (wiped user/factory reset, dalvik, cache and did a format /system) of RG2x-MIUI v2.3.16 - SWIPE NOTIFICATIONS-Powered by Faux123 CM v0.4.8 yesterday.
Battery drains at the rate of 10% every hour when idle. Even with minimal usage (15mins call time, few txt, light browsing over 4G), the battery won't last more than 4-5hrs
One thing I am curious about, do you have to run a combination of kernel+ROM over a period of time to see if the battery performs any better or are the results instant?

Most people get better battery life on OTA based roms than CM7/AOSP. So MIUI may not provide enough juice for you, but try Bionix Reloaded and tell us the difference in battery.
Sent from my amazing LG G2x running Bionix Reloaded v1.4

I has Bionix Reloaded before yesterday. The battery life was about the same, but the main issue that I was facing with Bionix was the switch from data-Wifi. For some reason, data had precedence over WiFi.
I can give it one more shot. Maybe a clean install would rectify that issue. DO you recommend any kernel/tweaks/setCPU settings etc with Bionix or just use it as such?
For the meanwhile, I have turned off GPS and using SetCPU 816/389 inscreen and 389/389 Off to see if there is any improvement.
I really don't care about the fancy part as long as I get battery life.

I recommend Faux's undervolted kernel, make sure its the one for GB btw. As for SetCPU settings (I uses CPU Master), I keep it at 216-816 most of the time, only raising it if I need it (such as Facebook, browsing, heavy games). I have the governor set to Performance.
Also, I don't have a screen off profile (but did have it set before) at 216-503 with Powersave governor, and my battery lasts more now that I took off the profile. The Tegra 2 has HW governors that more efficiently save battery than SW ones do. Not all CPUs are like this, so we are in for a treat.

Will give it a shot right now. Just to be sure about the kernel, we are talking abt this one:
[ GINGERBREAD: ]
[ Start @ 1.1 GHz, Pre Overclock / Under Volt, Max @ 1.55 GHz ]
The File ==> LGE Pre-OC/UV Kernel Version 013 With EXT4 <==
from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102720

That's not my problem. O;
My problem is that When the battery is 100%, no matter what task I DO, it only drains -2...
But with the same setting, at 30% battery, my battery drains from -300 to -1000

Best combos for best battery life

What have we accomplished so far? List your personal running kernel/ROM combos that you are using for the best (and tested) battery life. Let others benefit from your experiences! Thanks!
Das bamf and drods 1.8 bfs kernel set at 1.45. Usually get around 15ish hours with moderate use.

Fyretech rom with imoseyon kernel 1.92 dialed down to 1.792, setcpu, atk. Today is the first day running this combo phone has been on since 7am, moderate use (phone calls, texts, games, internet and youtube,) its 10pm now and i have 39% left on battery. I would have had to charge my phone at least once today when it was new out of the box.
EDIT: using 3g, 4g not available yet in central Jersey.
I'm using the bamf v4.3a kernel with the stock rom. i'm also using setcpu set for the 'ondemand' governor and a profile that underclocks the cpu to 245/245mhz when the screen is off.
BAMF 1.4 sense remix, with adrenaline (spelling? 4.4.2 kernel, dark horse theme, auto rotate Rosie (Saweeeet!) Optimal setcpu settings. Ie: charging profile (245 mhz min- 1.0ghz max/smartass) with this setting I normally get almost 1% battery charge increase a minute. screen off profile (700's mghz-1ghz/on demand. Screen on profile (1.1ghz-1.3ish ghz/smartass. etc... I know some stuff I mentioned doesn't really pertain to battery life, but this set up is just sick! Also, I read somewhere that its a good idea to let ur battery die completely, then turn phone on without charging (you may have to just a bit to get it back on) And let die again. This supposedly tells the phone where the dead zone is on the battery accurately, so it can now get a full clean battery charge. Myth? Idk, but damnit my battery is sick now! Hope this helps.

Personally, I've been testing Imoseyon [ROM] Tesla Coil Version 1.5, with Imoseyon [Kernel] leanKernel: minimal kernel "battsaver" .92 version. I am running it on "On Damand" with charging and screen off profiles, mobile data NOT on auto sync, Tasker for wireless ON at Home and audio OFF at nite.
Really, this seemed to have doubled my battery life. I was having to charge before the end of the work day with moderate use and now have been able to use well into the night.
Hope to see even more Rom/kernel concoctions out there as I love to try any new suggestions.
With adrenalines (I still don't memorize the spelling! Lol) 4.4.2 kernel it deff charges waaay faster as stated. Setcpu charging profile to lowest mghz min to around 1ghz max on smartass. Not demand, n it will bounce around to proper mghz levels as needed to speed up charging process. Its sweet n like you, I'm open for more suggestions

Adryn's debloat ROM and his kernel, with extremely light usage I pulled 38 hours (my previous record was 36). I have been using my phone for the bare minimum, so this is why I got so high. No, this is not real world usage and yes, I hated it, but it works. My normal battery life is somewhere closer to ~18 hours, except on Tuesday's and Thursday's, when I have lecture classes, I usually pull 9-10 hours, because I play games and browse the internet for 2 and a half hours.
Using imoseyon kernel 1.4 extreme(InteractiveX governor) with Tesla Coil 1.5. I have an extended battery, and with moderate use my phone can easily make it through one day into the next before needing to be charged.
Screen off and plugged in.. ;-)
I think it would be best to post in your stats whether or not you have 4g enabled as there are large populations of each way and it makes a significant difference.

True...4g always enabled for me other then when I get no 4g signal and then 3g may go into effect. If no signal at all, then wireless when I am indoors.
I refuse to turn off 4g as that is why I got the phone and my coverage is pretty good for 4g...so, better battery life is a must for me
leankernel v .6 @ 1.41 on demand with das bamf 1.4 remix and i disable data when not using it and right now im at 56% battery at 32 hours with moderate use
I'm using imoseyons extreme kernel on interactivex governer on stock. I'm getting 14hrs %40 battery with moderate usage. I'm mostly on wifi all day with a little of 3g use.

Huge *NOTE!*
Go to settings, menu, wireless networks, mobile networks and uncheck the third box. No need to have mobile data always on for most peeps . You'll still have 4G n everything, but gain a good 1-2 maybe more hrs (depending on use, kernels, governor settings, and I/O scheduling. I personally am running BAMF 1.6.2 with adryns 4.4.7 kernel, no set CPU, using tool box for that at 245mhz min - 1.02max with ondemand governor and most importantly SIO Scheduler. Try these n you will have amazing performance and better battery life. Let me know you opinions

Those claiming you are getting 24-48hrs of Battery Life...

I was told you could flash into ClockworkMod Recovery with an SdCard, and that is right, I have the video tutorial for it, but I was also told you could the flash a ROM without an sdcard, internally, now I am being told you can not.
Secondly, my phone is rooted and I am using a app called "Battery Calibration", and still getting horrible battery life, I mean this phone is losing more battery then ever now, after using the app..
Third, What ROM are you using, and how are you people getting such long battery life?
I was using Juice Defender Ultimate on only "out of the box, default" settings for a few weeks and it was seriously lasting at least 24-36 hours until it was too low for comfort (5-15%). I'm a huge texter and web browser since I have a desk job with 4g and wifi always active. For some reason though recently the app hasn't been disabling data how it should so its back to the normal maybe 6-8 hours..
I'm down for more help too!
I'm running EB 1.04 2.3 with no extra kernal or hacks..
This is not development, please post question in the Q & A section
Having said that, I usually get about 16hrs of battery running the latest kang build of cm7 from Fitsnugly. I disable wifi, bluetooth, gps if I'm not using them, but when I'm at home I enable wifi calling which turns off your cell radio which saves a ton of battery.
This thread has two recoveries, one for sd cards and one for flashing from the internal memory, please use the search button next time.

24-48 hours battery life is a joke IMO. especially in these the infant stages of development. even stock (possibly more-so dependin on which rom ur comparing it to)
Even with my Nexus One fine tuned for battery life 24hours of USING the phone is unrealistic.
If you don't sleep, and won't be near an outlet for the 24hours then buy a second battery.
Currently i'm using CM7, and the battery reading is sooooo unreliable at this point that i make sure to take advantage of any outlet i know ill b around for at least 30min.

uh, i'm getting at least 24 with almost every charge.. Typically with light usage, I'm hitting 32-34. Medium usage is around 22-26.. and heavy usage around 15+.

I've been using his ROMs since early release for this device.
I post on Facebook throughout the day via the app called Flow, or by text and/or gmail.
I'm on WiFi about 90% of the day. I use Pulse to read my RSS feeds a few times a day.
I've removed some system apps like Kineto.apk, Facebook, Torch, RomManager, SpeechRecorder, BooksPhone, SpareParts, & CarHomeGoogle. I don't use them and have no need for them.
I actually unplugged my G2x around noon today (13-14 hours ago). Right after lunch, before we left the house to run some errands.
It's been off the charger since then and it's barely at 71%.
I use PimpMyCPU with 3 profiles:
Super = max.1500 Mhz 1300 mV / min.1300 Mhz 1200 mV
Stock = max.1000 Mhz 950 mV / min.400 Mhz 770 mV
Saver = max.500 Mhz 800 mV / min.400 Mhz 770 mV
For general usage, I set it at Stock (watch YouTube, browsing the web, turn on GPS, reading Pulse, etc.)
Playing games, I set it to Super. Of if a friend wants to play with it, I set Super Profile to show it off Or when another Android™ user wants to compare Quadrant scores. I brag about my 4,000+ and hand it over.
Watching a movie, having a meal, driving without GPS, etc. I set it to Saver.

I do not have a SdCard so it looks like I can not install the Kernel, or the ROM, because the phone did not come with one. Is there a video tutorial on how to install both the Kernel and the ROM, can it be done internally, like you can do when you flash ClockworkMod Recovery? You have to flash the latest ClockworkMod Recovery first, then flash the ROM, then install the Kernel, correct? I would love to do that, and use your settings, and test it out. The Stock ROM sucks, battery life is horrible, I am constantly updating on Twitter, and using Facebook, and texting 24/7, I rarely get on the Internet, unless I need to look up something...

The Best Battery Life I have seen out of my G2x on something other than Miui

I am running Faux-AOSP-1.3.1 with the Trinity kernel 2.6.32.45 overclocked to MHz. I turned auto brightness off. I have profiles setup in setcpu for calls, screen off, charging, battery temp, and battery level all set to 1000MHz. I have a crap ton of apps installed and no live wallpaper. Yesterday I used my phone to make phone calls, text, emails, xda, download some apps, picture messaging, and Facebook. I woke up this morning and I had almost 20 hours on that charge. I think that is excellent battery life for a 2.3.5 ROM that is not Miui. I know Miui gets awesome battery life because I have used that before but I could not believe that I got this kind of battery life out of this ROM overclocked so much. The quadrant scores are between 4500-4900. I have yet to have a screen of death, reboot, or freeze on this ROM and I have been using it for the past 4 days. I just thought that I would share this with everyone.

I've always experienced outstanding battery life on Faux's AOSP 1.3.1 (he mentions there's a 1.3.2 in another post but i've been unsuccessful in tracking it down). I don't get those screaming quadrant scores you get but Faux's AOSP is a battery sipper!
EB 2.3.3 version 1.0.7
I got over 18 hours of battery life with charge, moderate use, and didn't have to do anything other than flash ROM.
Its about the only thing that sucks about CM7 based ROMS, battery life just terrible and a bunch of modifications are needed just to extend battery life.
Stock 2.3.3 based ROMS aren't so bad, except that Netflix don't work, Lock Screen doesn't have music widgets, and music player widget sucks.
I generally get around 20 hours with faux, too bad his kernel wont work in the new nightly yet

The battery life is a lot better now with the latest builds of CM7 and MIUI.
I just use CM7 and leave wifi and bluetooth off, no juice defender or anything like that and I can easily go all day with no charge, typically about a day and a half and my battery is getting low but it really depends on what you are doing like games, wifi, videos and whatnot.
Before I think there was a problem with the battery draining while in idle but things have cleared up since then, There are also third party kernels you can OC and everything, but you can use them to undervolt as well to save some battery if you know what you are doing. over on androidforums there is a lot more chatter about this phone, just so you know.

Thanks. I got my phone today and im loving it so far. Do you know which of those third party kernels are good for battery life and that i can install over stock? I'm not quite ready to install a ROM yet but i already did the HTC Thunderbolt Build.prop tweak and obviously im rooted.
It's usually not the kernel but whatever governor you have it set to use. Even the stock can get improved performance if you switch the governor to such--”performance”--but I'm probably not the guy to tell you about which one is best.
I also have the silly feeling a lot of misconceptions abound here...in the form of ”I changed this setting and now my device lasts longer..., oh btw I no longer play with it 24/7.” In other words, use drastically impacts battery performance. JuiceDefender is an amazing tool but it won't do you a bit of good if you're testing out your phone's Adobe Flash capabilities regularly.

The Savagezen and interactive (not sure if interactive is on any of the kernels for this phone.) gov isn't that great. At least not in my experience. I had SmartassV2 on my girlfriends phone and it got ~3600 on Antutu benchmark at 1.5 and when I used Savage at 1.5 she got ~1700. The interactive gov made my friends Dinc2 noticably slower. Just switching home screens it lagged to the point it was hard to get into the app to change the gov.
CM7 + TheOC kernel allows adjusting voltage & overclock or underclock. You really should flash a CM7 ROM. Having it just rooted can be dangerous because you're not using a custom recovery to make a backup image, and if something messes up, you don't have a backup ROM to restore. Going to a different ROM forces you to make a backup, then there's a backup to restore if you mess things up.
Governors just tell the CPU how fast to ramp up to a certain frequency, & how long to stay there. It's hard to balance fast ramp up (less lag), and low battery drain (spend more time in the lower frequencies). I like interactive/x, find that smartassv2 spends too much time in the mid frequencies (~500) even for light work. Using the app CPU Spy helps a lot to see what's going on. Also it tells you whether your phone is sleeping properly when screen is off, which is a big factor for battery drain.

[Q] Battery saver kernel for Sensation

Hi!
Ok, i'm not good in writing especially in english so here we go
From all kernel that has been released lately, which one do you recommend for having the best battery life in term of standby??
My opinion is Sebastian's kernel in ARHD 6.5.1
it gave me mostly 2 hours for 1%
but i have new problem now cause i flash ARHD 6.5.3 and then restore boot from 6.5.1 NAND back up and now my wifi gave me error
(but this is my problem, not yours )
Come on guys, give me your opinion
I'm currently running Hyper NonSense with the default kernel - I think it's Faux that's cooked into the ROM but unsure of this. Between the ROM and the kernel, I'm getting the best battery life I've seen with this phone. Easily have 30-50% left at the end of the day with moderate use; haven't actually benchmarked it more carefully than that.
Any update on this? My sensation doesn't even last a day...
Best kernels right now are Faux kernel
Sebastian FM
Bricked kernel
I myself have found that bricked uses the less battery, but try them yourself and decide which suits your needs.
I'm using Faux right now with HyperNonSense and I would say it's a good balance between battery saving and performance. One thing to keep in mind is that the higher you OC the more juice it'll drain. So far I've always capped my CPU to 1.24Mhz and I've never had an issue with performance. During light use I can get more than 30 hours in a full charge. If it's a moderate use, I'm still able to touch 24 hours. Oh yeah I'm using Anker 1900mAh.
