The paint on the kickstand is chipping away, but that's not really a big deal but now the back of the speaker is lifting up. The only thing I am afraid of is if they send me another phone it more then likely will be a refurbish unit and on top of that the phone that I have now don't really have any reboot problems. My XDA fellows what should I do?
Oh yea I know somebody going say I dropped my phone and etc, that's not the case I notice the build quality on this phone is not very good
I'd be leary given the rebooting issues, but to be honest I have faith in refurbs. Never treated me wrong.

That's what I am scared about. Honestly I get maybe two reboots every week and a half.
Hang onto it for a little while. Might be fine.

VERY little. I assume you're just talking about the little plastic grate over it, in which case a little dab'll do ya just fine. Careful with that.
Keep in mind I don't own a TBolt yet, but I've been around the block with gadgets and gizmos.

Handle my phone very carefully....I notice the paint coming off the same day I purchased it. Never dropped my phone.
I came from the hd2 and imo it has way better build quality then this phone
I would just put a tiny dap of super glue if you go that route, also i have had good luck with refurbs over the years but i know several people that have not been so lucky unfortenetly.
Also if the kick stand is pealing hit it with a little sand paper and polish looks way better that way. Saw a post some one made in the general forum and it looked really nice so did it myself as well.
DO NOT USE SUPER GLUE!
My plastic speaker grill on my Bolt started to come up so I put some super glue on it thinking it'd stick it back down. WRONG! The glue started to come up through the small holes in the speaker grill and now it's very rough to the touch and I cannot remove it.
Also, the paint on my kickstand is also peeling, but that's not a problem. All you need to do is sand the paint of with a Scotchbrite Pad and then polish it. It looks better than new.

reason why I dont want to go the reboot route is because I am real scared to get a unit that's going reboot every sec. So far I am really not having much problems with this unit when it comes to rebooting. The speaker thing is really bothering me..its like when you a little kid and you keep on picking at your cut

I say that if you have not voided your warranty send it back. This is what a warranty is for.
If you get a phone that reboots all the time keep sending them back as well untill you get a working Thunderbolt. Enough people send the phone back for "real" warranty issues and maybe HTC will improve their build quality.
Sorry but just like dadsterflip said I'm very picking when it comes to cosmetic as well and what your describing would drive me nuts or I would just end up hating the phone.
I returned my first Thunderbolt because of the light leak at the bottom of the screen and made them open 4 brand new Thunderbolts to find one that did not have the same issue.

Yeah, that's what some dude on twitter told me he used to sand down his kickstand lol... I actually tried it a few hours after that post and it didn't work to well... maybe I was doing it wrong, though lol.
Got my refurbished phone yesterday and it rebooted five times today...I am sending it back and keeping this phone wit the broken speaker grill...I'm not getting another unit until they release the new update at the end of the month...couldn't hang up phone calls...couldn't put the phone on airplane mode....really disappointed with HTC and this phone...I can't wait till a better phone comes out
The coating on my kickstand started peeling like two days after I bought the phone. I've been peeling it off ever since. Definitely not a misuse scenario, just a poor coating. Doesn't really bother me since it'll all be gone soon anyways. I'd be a little pissed if the speaker grille started coming off though.
spoke to about three representatives and they said an updated is coming at the end of the month.....The speaker grill is really bothering me tho but I can't take swapping out refurbish phones just find a working unit...hopefully the new update fixes this issue
I heard the update is being released 6-15-11...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGxctvyhl0U&feature=related
I came across this.. lol Im gonna try it. Maybe some how line the inside of the cover from the top to the side so when in landscape the top of the foil is on the side of the cover/phone but still getting access to the wifi signal.. lol
I think this issue can be fixed if htc just redesignes the cover. It cant be that expensive. I bet if the some how do the same with metal, from the copper all the way to say both sides, no matter how you hold it should get signal. I think this could be fixed with a redesigned cover.
I know this is a funny thread, but seriously I havent tried it yet, but if it helps that just means they could design a new cover to work.

Maybe just little bit less foil on the gold prong. Would enhance the signal. While still being small enough to fit in the phone without effecting anything.

FYI he already made a post about this when he first put up that video
EDIT: Ok yall gonna think im crazy. But I held the phone with a towel reaaaaally tight over the wifi area, whole back, and etc. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO wifi drop. Yea ok, conductor right? IPHONE issue? Well a case dont fix it? how come? so I decided to line my case (silicone I got from tmobile) with paper towel. LOL. I got two layers in it. Anyways, I wish my wife was here with Vibrina (my vibrant) to take a video for proof, but it works. Its muuuuch better. I could still probably kill the signal by covering completely or trying, but now I dont have to keep my hands in a certain spot.
TRY it.. LOL IT works for me. Ill post a video in about 4 hours of it. Before, while during and after to show its working. So Maybe a new case with some extra something will help? I dont know but if just a towel (one layer, the corner) can stop the issue completely, something has to be able to be done.
With my body glove on, I've never had any problems with wifi dropping.

I got the case from the TMO store where I bought the phone. It's the one made from soft black rubber, and the rubber is textured, feels almost like finger prints, so it's not slippery at all. It cost me $9.

I'm headed out now to test this on as many "wife areas" as I can find. BRB unless I get arrested...
Put a couple layers of PT between your case and the phone on the top half of the phone ... Line the case with pt.
Now I can't make the signal disappear no matter what I do... Its ghetto. But works untilled a fix I promise... This is proof they need to design a case or new cover......
Video and pics coming later...
I think I'm gonna get some kind of strong cloth or something that is thin and line my case with it until a better case is available.
I was curious about this and took the back case off of the phone. All signals dropped. Initially I was thinking to use electrical tape instead of a paper towel to minimize the ghetto-ness, but it kooks like if those contacts aren't terminated, they don't work.
Not sure how that paper towel thing works for you though... Doesn't seem to be working for me. Not to mention it covers my camera and flash.

Cool.. where you get it?
Does anyone here know where I'll be able to get the ring around the camera for the sensation?
The ring is attached to the back cover from the inside. A picture is attached to show you.
My ring fell off while I was removing the battery from my phone when it froze on me and its been letting more dust get into my phone so I'd really like to get a new one to replace it.
If anyone would like to give me the ring or the whole back cover all together I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks XDA,
-Phillip
It's to prevent dust? Meh, I lost mine, I work in construction where there's a massive amount of saw dust in the air to make Foxconn factory air pale in comparison. It gets a ton of dust and saw dust in their but I don't really care. Upgrading to One XL!!!!!!!!!!
I have the same problem as you.. the ring fell off..
You should be able to buy the hole back-cover for 40,- bugs on the htc accesoires website!
Cheers!
you could reattach it with super glue... my volume rocker fell of and i used alittle superglue applied with a toothpick now i cant tell the difference. if you still have the ring with you
The ring is in the cover? Sorry haven't paid attention since I got the Sensation just a week back. I had to get a new back though, if the ring is in the cover, here's the link http://www.ebay.com/itm/250938664345
The most I'd ever pay for just the ring would be 3-4 USD.
I don't need a new back cover since mine is fine and has no issues whatsoever.
I just need that damn ring, my OCD is killing me.
This little part you talking of? I took it out of the cover I replaced. If you want, I can send it to you?

Message me.
Just recently noticed that I've lost the shroud around my camera as well. It's really bugging me too, I looked all over for it. I too can't justify buying a new back just for this small piece. Hopefully I can find a good deal on ebay or find a damaged phone locally on craigslist.

This ring fell out recently on my Sensation too but I realized it and put it back in.
Does anyone know how I can fix this?
Was the ring put in some kind of clamps which broke or was it just bad glue that needs to be replaced now?
Just glue it. Won't really ruin anything. But just be careful not to glue the lens. As for replacement. I tried checking eBay, etc for ya but couldnt find any. I think what you can do is buy a new housing/battery cover. They cost about $26-30 on eBay.

Do you have to send in your whole phone, give them your serial number, or sen pictures of the phone?
My phones warranty is already voided through software (S-off) and hardware (void seal broken)
all they wanted from me was name, adress and proof of purchase (i sent them a picture of my phones4u contract). I didn't have to send phone or anything away.
I would also recommend this solution, i'v had very good experience with HTC when I had problems with my desire battery swelling (probably because of using high power led flash too often). They only asked for a copy of the receipt and the shipping address.
So I stupidly had my case off my phone and dropped my phone taking it out of my pocket. It didn't drop that far but dropped just far enough to crack the glass covering the camera lens. So I needed to find a way to fix the cracked camera cover, preferably without much cost. I had no insurance and didn't buy through Verizon or a store.
Possible Options:
1. Having Samsung fix it. Would have to send it to them, would cost at least $70 plus, but possibly more. Would most likely be without the phone for 3 weeks (my guess). And they would wipe my phone and set it back to factory state. This would mean I would lose my unlocked bootloader, most likely. I really didn't like that option.
2. Buy a broken damaged phone that had the chassis with camera cover still in good condition. Unfortunately, finding a broken phone that wasn't expensive was impossible. SG3s on ebay with broken front LCDs were still going for $200-$300, which I thought was crazy. I even found a completely non-functioning phone that wouldn't turn on that sold for $150! vPrices as of this writing.
3. Order i9300 replacement chassis and camera cover. The i9300 version looked identical and several people thought it would work on the VZW SCH-535 version.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-camera-...ccessories&hash=item41688e2be1#ht_2658wt_1271
First Fix (unsuccessful):
I went with the i9300 replacement part option. While initially, I thought I was good to go. After further examination, two problems arose.
1. The bottom of the device has an exposed hole that the VZW SG3 doesn't have.
2. The bottom grooves, raised parts, and and two copper looking objects by the SIM card weren't allowing it to sit flush like the OEM part. I debated on trying to force the screws in...but decided that wouldn't work mainly because of the covered parts by the SIM card.
Looking at the picture you can see the exposed round hole towards the bottom of the i9300 part (bottom piece) and the additional opening on the OEM part by the SIM card (top piece) that isn' there on the i9300 replacement piece.
So at this point, I really wasn't sure what I was going to do. Then thankfully, Smoke314 provided some advice in this thread that worked! :good:
FIX THAT WORKED:
I took Smoke314's advice and removed the camera cover from the i9300 replacement part that didn't fit in the VZW SG3. It removed fairly easy with a flathead screwdriver. I did lose the use of the bond, but was able to put the new camera cover into my existing chassis. It doesn't fall out because of the three little prongs black prongs on the camera cover. The cover stayed in the OEM chassis part even without the bonding! I screwed the chassis back into the phone and put the battery door cover back on. The cover really does help hold it in place because of the additional silver on the camera cover. Now I have no more white haze with my pictures and a phone that looks normal again!!!
Posted a pic of the removal and the phone after all completed.
Yes it should work, both the US and UK versions of the phone, have the same physical parts except for the different processor and ram, but that should work perfectly for you

I want to replace the camera cover on the back, not the front LCD. I updated first post. Thanks for trying to provide a solution though.
I looked into complete body swaps for a Verizon GS3 and found that the Verizon model uses a different body. Your replacement part has to be for a Verizon phone and I was unable to find someone who sold those parts.

I had this issue with my S3, I bought the same thing you did. The lens is attached to the silver thing, it will pop out and you can replace that. It is held in with just some bond. A small flathead will pop it out. Not sure if you will have a problem with the cam focusing but it's worth a shot.

So did you do this? I was able to pop out the piece from my i9300 replacement. Didn't try my phone this morning though. Wanted to wait till this evening to mess with it more. What did you use to reapply the camera cover to your existing casing since the existing bonding can't be used again?

Who is that comment aimed at? And how is this helpful??? I know exactly what I'm doing, it's that I can't find a part that matches up correctly with the VZW SG3. I search google and different forums for solutions. I'm not damn noob. I took a chance on the i9300 replacement because it was the only available option to me. I posted for help and then posted my experience to help others from wasting their time and money on the replacement part. I try to give back to the community, to help others. Not put them down by providing their experiences. It's comments like this that drives away all the good and helpful people from forums.
If you can't provide constructive help, don't comment at all!

I did it to my first S3, the cam wouldn't focus and I though it was because the lens was missing. So I ordered the international part like you did only to find out it doesn't work for our verizon phones (like you have noticed). I then thought about popping out just what I needed, found that was easy to switch them out. Along with the bonding there are those 3...pins we'll call them. They sit in the housing pretty snug and then your battery door will cover most of the silver keeping it in place anyway. Maybe just be careful when taking the door off if you change batteries or something. If you are nervous you could try to superglue or some commercial type of bond from a store.

They sit in the housing pretty snug and then your battery door will cover most of the silver keeping it in place anyway. Maybe just be careful when taking the door off if you change batteries or something. If you are nervous you could try to superglue or some commercial type of bond from a store.

Cool...thanks for the info. I saw the prongs and thought about superglue. Just curious...you said your first. So I'm assuming you got another SG3 for another reason?
Did the one that you made the fix on, did you actually use it for a while? Just wondering if you had any problems with it after making the change. Good point about the silver trim. The battery door does cover a good amount of that silver trim. I may try this fix. Worse case scenario...I buy a broken SG3 to get the part I need or send it to Samsung to fix.
FIXED!!!
So I took Smoke134's advice and was able to fix my camera cover for my SG3!!! :good: I rewrote the first post with my experience, hopefully others might benefit and be able to fix theirs if they encounter the same problem.
Glad you got it fixed!
I'm sure your misfortune and your end result will be of use to others that find themselves in the same position. I'm sure you won't be the only one.
Thanks for posting this! Good to know it can be resolved!
Thank you for posting your solution OP. I took a chance on the i9300 part hoping it would fit, but of course it did not. Then I found your post and went ahead with the transplant procedure. The only step I added was to heat up the lens with a hair dryer before prying it loose. This allowed me to remove the lens without removing the bonding material. The heat also made the plastic more pliable; I was able to pry the lens out easily with just my thumbnail. The new lens seems very secure.

Good idea, glad it worked for you! :good:
I ordered one of these today. Will let you know if it resolved my issue.
It is just the camera lens cover part without the frame.
