That link assumes that you S-OFF'd with revolutionary, but i GUESS it should work anyway...
There are already posts about this on here, i assume you watched the NOOB video at sign-up? Anyway, use search, im not nagging, it just helps with clutter.
Hit that thanks button!!! Hope this helps, if youre not sure, search around. (get off mobile app and use desktop!!) Just search for "desire s s-on revert to stock (or similar)
Enjoy youre time on XDA and if you didnt S-OFF on purpose, you never know it could be useful...

[Q] How do you install HTC Sense 3.5 into Desire S

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...244739&page=28 i downloaded HTC sense 3.5 from the link above, but how do i get it to be installed on my phone? It's a .zip file so i don't know which app to run in the folder..
After reading your post I dont recommend you do it but if you insist, you must tell us whether you're S-OFF and have root first.
If you're even more confused now, this thread is great

Buddy, you're heading to the North Pole with a pair of Jeans and two T-shirts. Don't get me wrong, but i agree with dan-fish's assessment that you should do a lot of reading from the General section before you start contemplating flashing a ROM.
I mean no offence, and i'm not patronizing you, but from your questions above, it looks like you have absolutely no clue about s-off, rooting and eventually installing a custom ROM. I only emphasize this to keep you from accidentally bricking your device.
If you read all the guides in this forum (especially the excellent one by nodeffect), these questions will answer themselves on their own.

[Q] Official Android 4 installed (how do i root now?)

I installed the official ICS from HTC's website. its like a RUU or something. I'm real real noob and i kinda want to root now. Is it too late? or do i have to wait? O and further information I don't know what radios, roms, flashing... etc means. so ya!.. im a real noob sry guys.
Based on your description to yourself, as you real real real noob and does not know the meaning of the technical words and things done to your phone. I would strongly suggest to keep out of rooting. You might kill your phone.
Rooting is not for yourself, and for noobs, again based from on you self description.

OP, i would suggest that u take time to read the stickies. There are full of information inside in detail. And if u still need further detail then google is your friend.
The search button would do you a great help, no point posting the same question and waiting it to be answered as most question concerning rooting has been answered before, many times. As rooting is not something newly discovered for to this phone.
If you do not take the time to read then u will bump into many issue, that would of course not cost anyone in this forum any harm, but cost your phone to possibly brick.
Read the guides, read the pros and cons, and read the comments(don't be fooled by the number of complains, most of them have solutions and the methods are proven to work).
If you have doubt, search 1st, search 2nd, search google, try different words and finally only then post a question.

kk ty for the reply but wat i rlly meant is that i can't really find any articles about how to root a htc desire s with android 4 installed. I read alot of posts and i tried the power with colume down button to check my hboot version but it just flashes a white frame and then turns black. Of course i would be glad if you could tell me a post that explains how to root a desire s with ics installed

ty for emphasizing on my noob"ness" and i had started to read alot of posts and you know im starting to get the stuff. But can you help me on my question?? do you know how to s-off the desire s with ics installed or where i could get more information on this? thx for replying tho!!
The information is all over the forum. At least one of the guides that is good for Gingerbread, is good for ICS too. Until you have enough knowledge to figure this stuff out yourself, I'd suggest, as others, to stay away from rooting. I don't want to answer another barrage of questions "this doesn't work and that doesn't work, I'm stuck with a non-working phone, what do I do now", and in fact I won't answer. If enough of those few that can answer will be annoyed to the point where they won't bother answering - you'll be left with a non-working phone and no help.
You have two options, and both are well documented in these forums.
1. (recommended): downgrade your hboot (and with it the system software, but afterwards you can install what you want) and then get s-off
2. : unlock your phone on the htc-dev website, lose any warranty, always need to flash boot.img by fastboot from pc etc.
Guides for both these options should be quickly found on these forums through searching.
You have hboot 2.xx.xxxx. that's why you can't get s-off without downgrading.

AFAIK it is not possible to downgrade hboot on ICS RUU without root. And you can't get root without unlock via htc-dev.
So you need to unlock via htc-dev!
Correct me if I'm wrong and please share a link.

Indeed, AFAIK you can't get root in ICS without HTCDev unlock.
So you can either HTCDev unlock and root, or you can HTCDev unlock, root, relock, downgrade, S-OFF, upgrade bootloader, and then do whatever you want.
Guides for both of those methods exist.

This is why people start getting annoyed with the 'noobs' on the forums. You ask questions, get them answered by guys like Jack_R1 who know what they are talking about and then just ignore them, or ask the same damn question again.

Well for any noob the internet is a great place to start especially XDA
As people have instructed already these forums are full of wisdom, and Im sure the answer is in one of the many threads.
But at a high level this is what I did:
1.Installed the official ICS update from HTC using the RUU.
2.Unlocked the phone via HTC dev website instructions.
3.Rooted the phone using SuperOneClick(Flashed it via recovery)
But I really dont understand why you would want to root the stock rom as it does not even support overclocking, I mean the kernel.
Im using Fallout V5.0 and I assure you thats its way better than stock
Note: If all this seems like greek and latin to you, please refrain from rooting your device and hence avoid any possible damage to your phone.

How to s-off

Please help me,I am s-on,unlocked with hboot 2.000.02....I want to flash kernel directly from recovery so I understand that if I have s-off it won't be a problem...I read many topics but my problem is that I have root, unlocked and how can I make my desire s to s-off?

Flashing miui

Hi,
I want to remove my friends htc one xl's branding by tmobile and flash a miui rom. After hours searching this forum(s), i have a little idea of what i have to do, like i have to unlock bootloader, some s-off thing, flash a custom recovery and then flash rom. As i come from samsung forums, i have no idea of how this works and even hours of research havent helped me out. So i would be glad if anyone could tell me what i should do to at the end i get miui. (I think flashing custom rom removes branding, doesnt it?)
Thanks very much in advance

First of all we need to make sure you're in the right place. Is the phone an Evita (One XL)?

Unlock bootloader
Flash twrp
Flash Su
S-off
Flash anything.
Never used samsung but it seems like anyone who comes from Samsung phones tend to be ridiculously noobish. I suggest reading through the stickies in q&a and android dev and original android dev if things don't make sense to you. This phone is quirky but once you actually understand what you're doing and why, it's simple. Lazyness will brick you. Also, never root these for a friend or they will be calling you when something goes wrong. And something will go wrong.

Normal way, i think:
1/ Check your computer, have ADB and htc sync install or not, if not, download them and install them.
2/ Boot into bootloader, and check your status of hboot, build. If your hboot, build are qualified to get root, go to this topic:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1952038
3/ After unlock boot-loader, go do soff to install custom RUU:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155071
4/Flash TWRP recovery (google and download it, latest build 2.6.0.0)
5/ Install any rom you want
PS: for MIUI rom, you dont need to soff and hboot required, thats mean you just only care about: UNLOCK BOOTLOADER, ROOT, TWRP recovery.
So first, go to htcdev.com and unlock bootloader for your phone, after that, check if your phone can root or not and install TWRP recovery then flash MIUI rom.
So thats all you need, maybe it not clear too, but you need to give me some infor about ur phone, so we can find right solution. I am noob too haha
Ok, so:
1/ yes ive got adt with adb tools included; im on linux so i think no htc driver needed
Well, if i dont need soff thats good
Thx, clear guide man
