Hello xda !
The last 36 hours have been interesting for me I am in a bit of a situation with my phone.
Problem 1)
I use videotron ( canadian telco ) they have generally kinda crappy reception. Yesterday at work I lost reception which isn't uncommon my desk doesn't usually have reception all day. I noticed though that it didn't come back all day and by the time i got home I still didn't have any reception. I would occasionally get some bars but my phone would state 'emergency calls only' in the notification window.
I was using a custom rom... infinity rom.... which i had been on for a few weeks. using the uckd1 radio....
I have since flashed multiple different radios and roms all with the same issue. I get little to no reception and if i do it says emergency only. when i search for networks i do not see videotron although i see other local providers. so my radio is working just not seeing a specific one.
I called my telco to see if they blocked my imei and they say they haven't. my SIM card works in my other nexus s ( from work ) my work SIM card does NOT work in my phone.
So through trouble shooting I am back to a stock image with an unlocked bootloader and still no reception.
Problem 2)
Restoring to stock to trouble shoot the above problem i had to remove CWR... I have an unlocked bootloader however when trying to adb into my phone in fastboot my win7 pc or a mac at work would not see my device. My win7 pc at home when trying to install the google bootloader driver i cannot find it in the list of drivers after i have downloaded and selection the usb_driver folder from the sdk.
Closing)
I would appreciate help with both problems. If I can get the bootloader driver going I will install CWM and install some backups from a few months ago to see if that resolves problem 1.
If anyone has had any similar problems and solved them please let me know. Any sight is appreciated.
thank you
I have partially solved problem 2 !!!
I have gotten the android 1.0 driver changed to bootloader interface. however when flashing the recovery img it just sits on <waiting for device>
any help would be appreciated guys

If drivers are correctly installed waiting for device is usually a sign that USB debugging isn't activated.

I had turned this on, however once i got the driver working i tried superboot 1 click root which had worked previously with my device, although this time it seems to have caused a problem and I am unable to get passed the google logo in the bootflow- to now verify usb debugging is activated...
YaY :/
I can still get into my bootloader fine and DDMS sees my phone so I am pretty sure debugging is on.
So Problem 2 has been solved I am back into my phone.
I still though am unable to get real service. I My phone will show bars but it states emergency calls only. When I search for networks videotron isn't there.
My SIM card works in other phones other SIM cards don't work in mine.
any ideas ?
Yesterday i found same problem. You just have to do one thing put you sim card and also put some paper on the upper side of sim the sim will fit in boot your device this work for me.

Problem Solved !!!!!
Videtron blocks IMEI's the conflict with the rogers network, they will let you piggy back on rogers for a month or three then once they get tired of paying rogers for giving you service they block your IMEI on the network :/

I have a Tmobile Nexux S i9020t and all of a sudden it will not connect to Tmobile network. I pulled the battery, Took it in to Tmobile for a new sim card, and I reflashed my Rom (XenonHD). Still no service. I swear i have the worst luck with phones. Anyone know what else i can try?

I was thinking that but never flashed a radio before. Plus I had made a back up of the rom right after flashing went to that and still no service. I figured that would of been a state in which it worked. Do you even know which radio works for this rom?
try from this thread: just flash http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884
The phone was previously flashed to selectel, I have Odin'd the 4.3 stock TW ROM, but the phone still won't get 4g on a contract Verizon line.
When reading the phone with the sim out (with CDMA Workshop) I can see the old flash is still present.
When reading the phone with the sim in (with CDMAWS) I can see parts of the old flash.
I have a feeling that my EVDO Rev, Mode Pref and a few other things are not set properly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. If someone has an S3 and can read it with DFS or CDMAWS and let me know what settings you have that are working for 4G I would be extremely thankful.

Well I've never seen that tool before in your edit.
But a much easier fix I think would be to just (re)flash the correct modem to your device.
Glad you got it working though.
Hi guys, I get a mate 7 bought on amazon warehouse deals!
It detects signal after 10 minutes and let me send a couple of sms... but after a pair of minutes it starts to lose signal again for about 5 minutes... So where is the problem? Sims are working on other phone, I wipe everything 3 times, but still haven't a solution... Please tell me there is something I'm missing, I don't want to send it back....
try 2g or 3g/2g mode of network, I had similar issue with KitKat 4g enabled, it wasnt so on Lollipop with 4g. Well, now my phone doesnt see sim card at all and after trying to return to KitKat I've got a soft brick, so, be careful

Thank you, I have tried, it's not working... I have tried 3 different carrier, nothing change...
What about baseband? Maybe someone flash a wrong baseband: how can I check if I've installed the right version?

That I also wonder.
Are there any Huawei gurus out there? I'm new to Huawei from Samsung.
Hello everyone,
I have a Galaxy S3 S968C on Straight Talk. I successfully managed to root it by flashing the newest version of TWRP and installing Superuser and so far I have not run into any problems.
But, because Straight Talk does not provide android updates (I'm still on 4.1.2), I'm really hoping to get CyanogenMod working. I've heard that there are some problems with getting the d2vzw version working on the Straight Talk phone, but I've also heard that people are using CM on this phone.
Could anyone who has experience with this phone please give me more details on what problems exist and if there are any solutions??
Thanks!
I was in the same boot as you until yesterday. I managed to install the latest nightly build of CM 12.1 for d2vzw (cm-12.1-20151204-NIGHTLY-d2vzw.zip) okay.
If you want the radio to work, you need a SIM card inserted. If you want mms to work, you need a used de-activated Verizon 4G SIM and you need to edit an existing APN. (A new SIM card will continually dial out trying to activate , so you need a used one)
There's some more about that topic here --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2516498&page=57
I haven't activated the phone, so I don't know if mms is working for me. But I did try starting that activation process and that proved that the cell radio was working. (use *288 for activation, that's Verizon rather than StraightTalk's *22890)

Thanks for the info, this confirms what I have seen in other places too.
Other than this does everything else seem to work well?

I haven't played with it too much, but so far, so good. WiFi, Camera, GPS all working okay. Just make a backup of what you have now before flashing CM. That way you really have nothing to lose.

Thanks for all the info!
I'll try playing with this stuff soon (I need to get a SIM card and a SD card first though).

There is Marshmallow CM13 now for d2tfnvzw. Its still a tad buggy but @invisiblek is getting the builds more and more stable. 6.0 OctOS will be coming very soon as well. There is still good stuff for the future for the S3, enjoy it when you get a chance to try it at its most stable.

To all who are curious...im curently running the latest feb nightly marshmallow build on the s968c..after rooting the phone and getting a custom recovery the first thig you wanna do is make a nandroid backup...this have really saved me from bootloops and bad rom images...then if you wanna try the lollipop or marshmallow cm builds you have to have a sim card..im actually using an old att sim card. The oy thing that i dont have working is mms send and recieve. I just havent set the APN's yet.
The workaround for me has jus been to send and recive pic messages on my email acct..and since its the straight talk s3 i get 3G data...when you first boot into the rom or after a reboot go ahead and toggle the airplane mode toggle and let jt sit for lime 2 mins and then toggle it off and it will get the 3g data going. If you dont it will randomly cycle thru roaming/no sim/and 1x data. And i dowloaded google camera from the play store because the front camera stopped taking pics though you could see the picture..this was working but after a nightly update it stopped...like i say google camera works 100%...
Absolutely everything else has been workig and i have found it to be exceptionaly stable..Matter of fact daily driver for me.I have been using the official cm D2VZW nightlies.
Thanks for the information!
Just curious, have you noticed any significant changes in battery life compared to.CM12 or even the original 4.1.2?

I have..with 6.0.1 I'm noticing significantly better battery life..its better than stock 4.1.2 and better than cm 12..they have also reinstated the battery setting tile to allow you to select power save/balanced/performance.

Nice! I should definitely try CM13 out soon.
I'm really liking it..I've tried a couple other ROMs like Liquid smooth and hellfire but keep coming back to C.M. lol...I'm really liking the new theme engine as well..
Hi, when u guys said that you have to have a sim card inserted in order to get the radios working(which I'm assuming covers calling, texting, sending mms/pic messages, data, (You get the point) ), are you guys talking about a straight talk byop sim card or a Verizon (3g/4g(I don't know what they use)) sim card?
Thanks
Also, can you use any custom recovery and any custom rom that can be used on the Verizon gs3 version work on this ST gs3 version as well?
Again thanks
I recently tried CM on my phone and I used a sim card from Straight Talk. SMS and calling worked fine, but I couldn't get any data.
I didn't have much time to fiddle with APN settings, so I reverted back to stock. If anyone has more info on getting data to work, I'd like to know.
As for other ROMs and recoveries, I really don't know, I'd assume that some work, but TWRP and CM are the only ones that I've tried.

This explains the SIM and how to use it.
Get your device rooted then follow this guide, it has links to where the recoveries and ROMs that can be used.

Thanks droidriven for the info, also is there a way to get it to use 4g and 3g or at least just 4g either on stock or custom rom?
Thanks

3G only, ST S3 is not and cannot use 4G, period.
