How do you boot into CWM? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

How do I boot into recovery with CWM v5 as soon as I turn on the phone?

This was really unnecessary to start a thread for. You can find the answer to this question ALL over this forum.
You need to hold down both volume up and volume down. Then push and hold down the power button. When you see the splash screen get brighter - let go of the power button while continuing to hold both volume up and volume down.
Or you can just download QuickBoot from the market.
Please take more care to find answers before starting a thread or ask stupid questions in the Stupid Questions thread.

You can also check the wiki for a LOT of guides:

You must be running v0.1.1-rc2 from FB's thread. It is exactly the same as other versions except that now you must guess about the timeframe to let go. Just let the samsung stay on the screen for a couple of seconds and then let go. But by far the easier way is use quickboot as was already recommended. Good luck!
.

or you can wait for team acid splash screen to show up and you can let go of the power button

Not sure if anyone else needs this.
From phone off Press and hold volume up + home button + power. Let Samsung logo come up once and go away, then on the second time right when it appears let go of all buttons and you will be in the recovery.
I needed this because I was following this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131710 and forgot to Wipe Cache partition so I didnt want to load everything up and screw something up.
If this is redundant or un-needed mods feel free to delete, I'm just trying to provide info that took me more than 5 minutes to find out in Google and couldnt find here.
Its actually in these forums somewhere and in here only development goes in development. Any Q or comments go in general. Thanks though.
I just asked how to do this in the general section haha. I've been trying to figure this out for the past two days. Thank you so much for this. I came from a Fascinate where it was volume up and down and power. I couldn't get it to reboot into recovery for the life of me.
This just helped me as well...trying to update Gummy.
Thanks!
Same here! Used to the fascinate, ended up doing the terminal emulator, the su, reboot recovery method. Until this handy post. Helped my reading comprehension I guess...

Some very basic questions, recovery

Hi,
I have been searching for this through the forum and havent found it, seems like a very basic question.
I just rooted my TF, I am just trying to learn about all the things I have been reading about. I rooted it with BRK's batch script here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1185104
so I should have ClockworkMod 3.1.0.1-solarnz-R3 installed.
My question is, how do I boot into it (normal recovery or CWM recovery)? or even know if it is installed? I tried using quickboot and I choose recovery but it seems it just booted back normaly.
thank you for any help.
John
Turn it off, then turn it on by holding the power and volume down button for a few seconds. Some text should appear on the top left that says, press volume up within 5 seconds to recovery. press volume up, and you're there.

Another way that is easier on those poor keys is to use one of those :
"reboot to recovery" type apps that are , I think , downloadable in the forums. I'll post it here if I find the link. I felt like those buttons were pretty fragile so started using that instead.
EDIT: http://goo.gl/RbyLo is a spot you should be able to load 'reboot to recovery' from. (credits to gnufabio)

I agree 100% about those buttons, I think about that every time I turn it on and off. that is why I downloaded the quickboot program from market but it doesn't seem to work.
thanks for the link!!!

Did I do something wrong?

I was trying to flash 3e recovery or whatever and ClockWork Mod and seemed to have almost no luck until I finally decided I'd plug my phone in to the computer after shutting it off. I then held the volume keys and power button to try to get into recovery, but then I got taken to a warning screen I guess telling me about flashing custom OS and it said to press the volume up key to continue or volume down to reboot, so I pressed volume up and now my screen says "downloading..." with a droid shoveling stuff and the bottom says "Do not turn off Target!!!" It's been like this for a while... what is it trying to do? Did I do something wrong or what?
you put your phone in download mode if you are not trying to odin back to stock or hemdaling one of the leaks just unplug your phone from your computer hold the volume up button and power button till your phone reboots
Alright I got out of that, but now my phone just says "Samsung". If I hold the volume up + down + power buttons, the screen will black out and "Samsung" will pop up again, but nothing happens. Am I bricked or something? I'm new to this. I just got my Infuse like two hours ago.
just hold the volume up button and power button once the phone goes black release them if it is stuck on the samsung screen you are soft bricked go to the infuse super thread and look for gtg ultimate unbrick download it and read instructions in the op
edit: i use the first one in the thread that will also give you root plus mod 3e recovery if you want to do custom roms there are some good posts just do a search
Yeah I found that thread in case something like this happened before-hand and got it to work again. Thanks!
your welcome there is a very good guide right below this post it is very hard to brick this phone for roms i would recomend zeus it is quick and stable
That's what I'm going for.
glad i could help i remember that panicy feeling the first time i soft bricked my phone you will like zues there are alot of themes for it too

[Q] Can't go to bootloader, always goes to ClockworkMod recovery

Hey people my first post so you can call me whatever you want
Here is the thing:
I rooted the phone, installed a custom ROM and such, on the process I guess I installed this Clockwork Mod Recovery v5.8.3.1.
Well I wanted to change the ROM so I downloaded the new one (lastest trickdroid) and follow the steps, BUT!, when trying to acces the fastboot thing on that menu that can't remeber the name of, I jsut can't get into it.
When I tart the phone pressing volume down + power, instead of going to that menu it goes to clockwork mod. I was suposed to "Flash the stock boot.img from the ROM with fastboot", but well I dont know what I did or wahtever, I can't aces that menu.
What should I do?

I am having what seems like the same issue with my phone. Just posted a thread not too long ago asking for help. One person (a SR. Member) informed me to try to restore using a NANDROID backup (which I dont have). Going off of his advice, if you have the backup, try that. If not, we both seem to have the same problem. Good luck with your issue, I will be checking both our threads for solutions from now on!

Well, it seems we have the same problem then, we could make a club or something.
Extra Help (Maybe)
Hey again, I found some useful information that allowed me to get into my bootloader! If you are still stuck in CWM, use the volume down button to go down to the "advanced" button at the bottom of the list. Since this is a button that leads to another list and not a direct action, you can hold down the power button when highlighted over it and turn the phone off. From there, just hold Volume Down and Power as you would normally do to boot into the bootloader. Hope this helps since it worked for me!
So:
-Navigate to "advanced" (Just highlight over it)
-Hold power button for 10-15 seconds
-Phone should power off
-Volume Down + Power to boot into Bootloader
-Profit?? (Just Kidding )
Again, hope I could be of some assistance!

Have a look at fragkiller1 thread for fixing your issue.
well now I can't even get into CWM sigh
A brief flash of a screen appears now while booting it, but it just skips to the actual OS. I have the fast boot disabled ohh man what do now? DId I mess up something?

I did what you told me but when highlighting advanced and pressing the power button it enters the menu advanced, then the phone just noramll reboots and the OS loads.
I would have edited the post but I can't.

thanks it worked perfectly. I thought it only worked powering off and turining it on and holding volume down.
edit: sigh now I have another problem, after using fastboot usb with the Boot_Flash_Script from trickdroid, the phone is stuck at the the screen that says"this build is for development pourpuses only..." and it won't go further
edit2: I think I falshed a ROM for VilleC2 when I have a Ville, is there a way to fix this? the phone now is stuck at loading the screen with red words

Ya, make sure you got the right rom and get yourself back into the bootloader and you should see recovery there then do a full wipe and flash the rom and also if you feel you might of flashed the wrong boot.img reflash it to make sure.
So it's over, all solved.
I tried to install a new ROM but CWM got me an error mounting the SD, then I installed another recovery (TWR) and installed the new ROM (viper one s) flashed the boot.img and now everthing works wonders, for now.
Thanks a lot Darknites for trying to help me I really appreaciate that

Np dude glad you got it sorted but ya TWRP is way better for the sd mount and if you have 1.09 or lower Hboot it can also flash boot.img.

Not sure if this is the proper section for this but thought I would post this here as I'm sure it would highly assist people in development and other tasks. This is the button combinations you need to enter each mode.
ODIN/Download Mode
Make sure your device is completely off
Key Combos: Volume Down + Home
While holding both of them simultaneously press the Power button until you see a disclaimer on the screen
Then let go of all the buttons and press Volume Up to accept the disclaimer
Once the green robot is visible on the screen this indicates that handset is in now ODIN/Download mode
Recovery Mode
Make sure your device is completely off
Key Combos: Volume Up + Home
While holding both of them simultaneously press the Power button
As soon as the phone vibrates, let go of the Power button but keep holding Volume Up + Home
When you see the "Samsung Galaxy S III" logo (not just the word "Samsung"), right after that, the next screen you should see is your recovery
Don't let go of Volume Up + Home until you see your recovery

As long as the phone is NOT connected to a computer, that is you are not downloading anything, you can simply turn it off by holding the power button. Another option would be to pull the battery.
