HTC Desire S debranding - HTC Desire S

Welcome. How you can easily debranding Desire S from T-Mobile in the official rom for Europe without having to root. Is it enough to create a gold card and flash official RUU to Europe with the same hboot?

In the world of Android, ROOT is everything. As it's often "slanged" in Linux, "I am ROOT; obey me!". It's pretty dangerous navigating those channels without root control/access. And yes, most low-level stuff (like the one you intend on doing) are dangerous. But doable. Yes, the Gold Card is sufficient (but this is from the experience of others, not mine). Tread cautiously.
Remember to leave USB debugging on. Just a.failsafe.

Debranding the Sensation

Correct me if I'm wrong but if I was to get a Vodafone UK Sensation could I debrand it via the gold card method using the Europe RUU or is the locked bootloader gonna pose an issue?
+1 for an answer. I saw that little box thingy for generating gold cards and wondered if that would work.
I've been waiting for some info to come up on debranding too. But I didnt know if it would be possible until the unbranded handsets come out.

no you wont, since you'll be changing the bootloader. so no chance of jumping ship from voda branding
Thought as much, waiting for the unbranded handsets to be released then I'll get one of them - assuming it's actually any good
Or get your phone from Vodafone unbranded like me!

You won't be changing the bootloader by unbranding it.
If you get a goldcard to work, you just flash over the shipped HTC stock ROM.
However, I have been having problems with the goldcard method. I can create the card, but the CID check still fails when running the ROM off the card.
have u tried running the RUU

No, but I guess it will fail anyway, since the CID check failed for the ROM on the SD card via bootloader, I imagine it will fail via the RUU also.
Does the phone need to be connected via HTC Sync to run an RUU? Or just connected via Charge only?
You can run it in FASTBOOT, going by other HTC handsets

Hmm. Might be worth a try. But I am sure the CID check will fail.
Update: I tried the RUU using the fastboot method, and again, it failed on the CID. Everything was going well until then.
We need someone else to try with a goldcard on their device. Mine doesn't work at all
Has there been any progress with this? I'd really like to debrand if poss.

Which SD card are you using?
I tried to de-brand a friend's Hero once using the Goldcard method. Using his 4GB Kingstone didn't work, then I tried my 2GB SanDisk and it went right through.
Hi.
just some questions to get things straight.
My English isn't "DA bomb"
If i could use the GoldCard method i could install every ROM i like right?
But if there's an other ROM i would like to install can you flash it just like that? Or do i need the GoldCard method again?
Sorry for the misunderstanding but my English isn't perfect
Thanks in advance

Using Goldcard, you can ONLY install signed ROMs, i.e. official ROMs.
But we don't think it works correctly sadly.

I could give it a try... It would be nice to have an official ROM without the Vodafone branding. Thx for clearing it up for me !!
I'm new to HTC, if I wanted to try debranding, where do you get the roms from?
Does the Goldcard-method or other methods work on the sensation ?
Because i bought the sensation yesterday with vodafone branding and i hate it
When the sensation is debranded i can install only official roms in the moment, right ?
I tried again, to flash the HTC 1.27 ROM, and I get a signature error. I get a CID error with the HTC 1.24 ROM. That's using a 2GB Kingston SD card for my goldcard. I'm starting to think it doesn't work
Where did you get the roms from?
I dont even know where to start looking, is there a site like samfirmwares for htc?
EDIT:
nmv just found the thread in the dev section on here.

[Q] A few questions about bootloader ...

Hello,
I'm new to android and have been reading a lot. But not everything is clear.
With AlphaRevX you can s-off the desire s.
If you have 0.98.0000 and use AlphaRevX, will it still be 0.98.0000 or will it be upgraded to a higher number?
The desire s (gingerbread) can't be really rooted yet, only gingerbreak.
But to install a custom rom you don't need to be rooted, you only need s-off and goldcard?
Does anyone have an idea when htc will release a s-off tool or s-off bootloader?

The bootloader version number will be changed after alpharevx, to 6.something, to stop accidental bootloader down grading.
Ginger beak is the exploit that we use to achieve root, So it can be rooted!
You don't need gold card.
You're right in saying that you don't need root to flash custom, just soff and a recovery, CWM or EXT4
But you do need root to take the recommend pre custom backup
I don't see htc releasing unlocked boot loader to this device till at least late september as the schedule they've announced initially involves sensation and evo3d only
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA Premium App
Thanks a lot, it is much clearer now.

I didn't know that.
So the only purpose of the goldgard is to downgrade the bootloader?

Yep, a pre-backup (a Nandroid backup) always helps and makes you feel slightly more secure when flashing!
Goldcards - I'm afraid that I'm not 100% sure about that.
A quote from @paulobrien @Modaco, "A GoldCard is a special SD card which, when inserted into your device, allows you to flash RUU (ROM Update/upgrade utility) files with a different CID to your own device. For example, if you own a T-Mobile branded device, this will allow you to flash a generic ROM."
As I don't own a network locked device I've never had to use one myself, so my knowledge about them is pretty thin.
Thanks, mine is also not a branded device.

downgrade

Is there any way to downgrade boot loaders? I am on hboot 1.45.0013 s-on and was wondering if there is anyway to downgrade. Is it even possible to use someone elses old backup from the 1.44 Hboot, to help downgrade? thanks
you can now get S-OFF on that hboot using Juopunutbear: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576672. look it over first tho, it has taken some people many tries, and there have been some bricks from not doing it precisely right. here is another thread on it to check out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1617488.
this is the only way right now to switch hboots or downgrade from 1.45.0013.
fricken awesome dude. thanks
hmmm looks real risky. do i have to have root first? does the bootloader have to be unlocked with the HTC dev before this can happen?
no problem man. and nah, I don't think you would need to be unlocked, but you could ask in their thread to be sure.

From the JuoPunutbear site :
In order to use JuopunutBear you must meet the following pre-requisites:
Be unlocked using the HTCdev bootloader unlock
Be on the stock ROM and be rooted (have superuser and/or an unsecured boot image installed)
Some custom ROMs may work, however we cannot verify them all. If you are not using a stock ROM and have problems then this is most likely the reason.
Have a spare microSD card or to have backed up all contents of your SDcard, the card may be wiped, while we try to restore the card to it’s original state is is possible that this will not succeed
Have fastboot and adb drivers installed and working (windows)
Have usb debugging enabled
Remove and potentially interfering phone software which such as HTC sync, Andro sync, PDAnet etc, iTunes has also been noted to cause issues.
Have a legth of insulated wire of sufficient length to join the contact points for your device. See images and videos for device specific information.

[Q] HTC One X (AT&T) manual update

Hello folks, sorry for the dumb questions but this is new for me. I have HTC One X (AT&T) phone, bought in USA. This is my first android phone and I barely know android as a software. I unlocked the phone buying an unlock code from ebay and I am using the phone on another carrier. My question is, how can i manually update my phone (what is the newest update?) since AT&T is not a carrier in my country and I cannot update automatically.
At the moment my software information are:
Android version 4.0.3
HTC Sense version 4.0
Software number 1.85.502.3 710RD
Kernel version 3.0.8-01155-gca24d1eroo[email protected] # SMP PREEMPT (why is there root in the kernel version, my phone has never been rooted?)
Build number 1.85.502.3_R2 CL63811 release-keys
Doing this manual update if possible will the phone be locked to AT&T again, or my phone will remain unlocked?
I'm sorry for my bad english and sorry if there is already a question like this (I watched the noob video and did use the search button)
Thank you in advance
If you ever want to root or flash custom ROMs or other mods, I would advise not installing the latest (2.20) version AT&T firmware. Installing the official 2.20 firmware updates the bootloader, which plugs the holes by which kernels and radios can be flashed from recovery.
If you want root, I would root on 1.85, SuperCID, and unlock bootloader. Then you can install any firmware you want, including stock rooted versions that are more up to date than 2.20.
If you still want to install the 2.20 firmware, you can download the RUU (ROM updated utility) from HTC and run it on a PC, with the phone connected via USB. The phone should remain SIM unlocked after running the RUU. But RUU will wipe your data partition (but not the internal SD).
A lot of this may be over your head, so this may help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1784459

Thank you redpoint73 for your answer, I will follow your advice and will root it on 1.85.
I suppose what I should do first is rooting my phone following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1644167.
Than I should do this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1672284
Please correct me if I am mistaken
After doing all of that which firmware do you suggest or stock rooted version, or its just matter of taste? Now again the same question will I lose my SIM-unlock after rooting mt phone?

The root method you linked is actually for 1.73. You want to use this one for 1.85: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709296
The SuperCID method you linked is correct.
ROM/firmware is very much a matter of taste, and what features you are looking for. If you want stock, you can install the stock rooted 2.20 AT&T firmware in the Development forum (after unlocking the bootloader and installing TWRP). If you want something based on stock, but with cool added features and customizations, look at ViperXL, CleanROM, or Nocturnal LE. But that doesn't mean that any of the other ROMs are not also great. And that doesn't even mention the more "vanilla" (no HTC Sense) Android experience you can get from AOSP based ROMs, and their variants.
The differences and benefits of each are simply too extensive to discuss here. Just start looking at the ROMs and see what looks interesting to you.

I have a doubt. As I'm no from USA, I'll have no option to update the firmware over the air. How must I proceed in this part of the manual method?
Won't I have any issues with this?

My advice? Stop now. If, in fact, "This is my first android phone and I barely know android as a software," you're not ready to root.
You need to spend the next week (at least) reading and searching and reading some more. Don't come back until you can answer the following questions:
1. What does "rooting" mean, what exactly does it do to your phone?
2. What are you doing when you unlock the bootloader?
3. What's the difference between stock and custom recovery, and stock and custom ROMs?
Once you feel like you understand all this, you're ready to proceed. If you push forward now, you'll almost certain to get into trouble that you won't be able to get out of without extensive help.

Hi iElvis,
actually it wasn`t me who said "This is my first android phone and I barely know android as a software"... it was another member.
I had an Motorola Atrix 4G which I rooted a coupe of times, but this one was made for my country market, differently than my HOX, that is at&t. But in one thing you`re right. I have not much experience with HOX. That`s true...
My question was regarding the part of the manual process which needs a communication between at&t and my cellphone. In this case I wouldn`t find any upgrade option to accept or deny. So i don`t know what would happen in this case... does anyone know?!?!

Whoops! Sorry about that.
As far as I know, the only way is to flash a custom rom with the base you want, or to run the RUU for that base, which will leave you relocked and unrooted.

U11 debrand from carrier soft

Hi. I'm New u11 user, there's any way to debrand my u11? I have carrier brand software with lot of bloatware and no updates. Any way to flash open EUR software or something? Thanks a lot.
Depends on your current carrier. If your phone is gsm then just root, s-off, change cid, flash 401 sku ruu.zip from external sdcard. Job done.

S-OFF is paid right? There's a tutorial on forum how to debrand? Or just flash custom ROM like leedroid? What's better?
S-off is pay for. I don't know if there's a tutorial, most likely if you search long enough.
Custom roms are no better than stock roms.
