[Q] MT4GS Camera - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

Hi, I bought the MT4GS solely for the camera, and have CM7 on it, and its not so good.
Is there anything I can do to make it as good as stock, or do I have to go back to Sense?

stock (based roms) is the only one with fully functional camera

Use an ice sense for the best functionality.... use ics aosp for great quality w/ zero shutter lag

Thanks, whats an ice sense? Im a total noob, took me a couple of days to get CM7 on! Can I just put it on the SD card again and install like that?

go here for stable http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1469615
go here for experimental (work in progress) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1533931

Thanks, installed without a hitch, camera a lot faster! After a couple of days its started restarting in an endless loop, I've reinstalled, anything else I can try?
Im going to sea in the morning, and our net access will be like dialup, so I've gotta download anything tonight!

Use PyroIce, it has the Sense Camera. The DS camera took like a perfect 10/10. The One on pyroice is a 9/10. Just disable review time. And pics a fast

Stocks camera is a whole other rank Xo You have to consider the software, and drivers a custom build for a camera. I change my Sensation camera to like a 8 now. :3 Its still good.

My suggestion is flash Bulletproof and stick with the stock camera and a nicely running stock rom. That or pyroice and know that 1080p video is not an option. Grab all the UV kernels that TBalden has.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement.

Ah, I see I have pyroice, where can I try the stock rom from? Originally I got it to get rid of the T mobile stuff, but the camera is what its all about for me...

If you turn off widescreen on pyro ice, the pics are a lot better. I also think using ics camera app from the market is another option for fast pics, but not as good for scenes.

OK, Im totally befuddled, but I've messed around with the settings, and its still ****e, so, Bulletproof? Will this give me the camera as good as stock?
Or if stock is what i need, can I get that? Arriving in Sri Lanka in the morning, be good to take some decent pics!

Bulletproof uses the stock camera app.

Typed by ---- oh wait! I'm schizophrenic!

got it working, you all rule!
I saw that the keypad lights werent working, and i was like, what!?
Then this:
[Port] BulletProof Sensation myTouch 4G Slide (Showing lights work)
on youtube, and I turn off the lights, and they work! Awesome, dying to see what the battery life is like. Took me this long to download the zip, Im on a yacht in the Maldives, and when people are using the net its pretty slow. I'll test the camera in the morning and put up some pics

Something else to keep in mind is if you really want to be able to take pictures quickly you might want to look into getting a faster microsd card if you are still using the one the phone came with.
If you can get to a class 10 card (I was running a PNY one for a while) you can eliminate that as a bottleneck.
With the stock memory card and taking pictures at the highest resolution I can easily take pictures (or try to...) Too quickly and have to stop and wait for a brief pause in between while it writes to the memory card the last one I took before it's ready to take another one.
The class 10 memory card made that problem go away, since it was able to write the data to the card fast enough that I wasn't stuck waiting that brief pause between pictures.
(In the life of a photographer a nanosecond can mean the difference between getting the shot or getting disappointed)
So something to consider.
If you feel like going overboard, the 64 gig sandisk cards not only work in the doubleshot ( as BlackKnightAvalon found out for us) but perform as well as ( maybe even a bit better then) those class 10 cards I was just referencing.
They are a bit pricey, but the good side of that is they made all the other memory cards drop in price. So scoring something like the 16 gig class 10 PNY card I used to run should be pretty reasonable.
So if you do tend to notice some little lag before it's ready to take pictures again after you just took one and you are on the stock memory card, this is something to keep in mind
Sent from a digital distance.

Camera's better, and
maybe this is as good as it gets? I have Bulletproof installed, will get a faster SD card as suggested (thanks!), but its about the same as my old W880i Sony.
Should I expect better from this? A couple of photos, one is ok, close up, and the other is ok-ish?

All I see attached is a couple of a couple-hundred KB tiny little squares of nothing, so yes, I would expect better (LOL maybe my internet is screwing up again -- AT&T sucks)

Quick live wallpapers+sticking?

First off am I the only one that wishes the original opengl would stick? Performance was alot better for that one (especially for the nexus wallpaper). Is getting the performance of the original live wallpaper we had and the sticking of the new patch possible? Right now that is the only problem stopping my phone from being the sex.
EDIT: Problem seems to happen when another widget is updated. Its not perfectly smooth, but not bad, but when a widget updates it really slows down the wallpaper to a noticeable halt. I doubt im the first to notice this, but for anyone else that really wants nexus wallpaper, having less widgets on your main page seems to help.
I moved the news+weather widget you see below to another page and it seems to jitter less.
I agree. Losing the performance from the new OpenGL isn't worth having LWP's. They might have a fix for this when Toast's Awesome Sauce ROM is complete.

Yeah I disagree with "there is no point in having them if it is slower".......the patch works pretty dam well with most wallpapers its just the peski nexus being alittle to slow to be usable for me. MagnusRagnarok my OP was not an attack on you at all. I am extremely thankful for what you have done, and hope you have not taken my post that way. I am just trying to see if more people feel the same way as me. For me getting the nexus one wallpaper running alittle bit better would get me closer to completing my phone.
Ill bump since I edited my first post. Hopefully someone finds it helpful.

Hey guys, I know a lot of us have been dying to get the nexus wallpaper working without having to do the opengl fix to make wallpapers stick, seeing as it made the wallpaper ran really choppy. I found a way to get it to stick, run smooth, and not have to change the opengl. I used the update zip posted by emerica6541 and it stuck right on and have ran smooth ever since. Granted he did modify the wallpaper so the lights are smaller, but I think it looks better that way on our heroes due to the smaller screen. It has survived multiple reboots, and over 30 mins of sleep time. I am running darch's legend rom though, so I'm not sure if this will work for damage's or flipz's roms, but its worth a shot.

Thank you very much for the post. I have tried flashing that before and it did not seem to work (this is on a fresh build). Ill try again, if not maybe a kind soul could look at it and see how to port onto fresh/damage build.
This is the point of the thread, not to shoot down other's hard work but to improve on it....I think thats what xda is about.

Just a note though, when you first set the wallpaper, your phone will freeze for a min, then it'll take you to the bootscreen. Once it reloads, you should be good to go.

I had it on my sd. Sadly it does not seem to make any difference. It is smooth enough (alittle bit jittery but not too bad) but once a widget updates it stops just like the other version of nexus wallpaper.

One thing that is weird is that the LWP stick with the old openGL if its plugged into the computer. Does the phone not sleep if its plugged into a computer?

Looking for the honesty please...

As you can see in my sig, I am on a Cappy with Gingerbread and a rom that is working magnificently. I have my Cappy setup exactly the way I like it and Netflix works like a charm. As a matter of fact, I am going on a business trip next week and look forward to chillin in the airport with my earbuds in watching a movie on the Cappy...
that said, I had really been looking forward to the Infuse. I was going to give it a week and pick it up tomorrow. Then I started browsing the new forum yesterday and noticed that some of you are reporting issues. Netflix also doesn't work. I was really looking forward to the front facing camera among other things... If I was to ask advice (and I would really like your advice), I would imagine some will tell me to just wait until an update comes out or the dev section really gets going. Any thoughts? Thanks for sharing.
I cant speak for the Cappy, but in the last 2 months I went from the iPhone 4, to the Atrix, to the Inspire, to the Infuse.
The Infuse is now my favorite phone that I have ever owned. It has the best of all of them combined.
Yes there are a few bugs, no there is no roms yet, but we all know that will come in the not far future. Get one now, and you'll get to enjoy it a little longer

Camera is very, very good. See engadget's review if u don't believe me.
GPS - flawless. When you're on the trip - ur cappy will make u furious driving around wasting time and getting tickets (been there, done that, sold that piece of ****)
Netflix - no idea, don't care
It's huge. Thing is a shovel, just attach a handle.
Screen - amazing, SAMOLED Plus, need I say more?
Battery life - so far crappy, but it's not broken in yet. Supposed to be better, since it's 1750mah.
Also, more RAM, enough to keep my Opera, couple of HD games and some apps open without need to reopen them when Android clears RAM.
Definite upgrade over craptivate. That phone was sweet, but non-existent GPS on it killed it for me. Stupid thing made me spend $$ driving around like an idiot.
Warning: I'm easily influenced by positive responses and may end up leaving for my business trip Monday with an Infuse in tow.
Just what I was looking for... Thanks for the responses thus far.

This is what makes me foam at the mouth. I played with an Infuse in the store yesterday and the 4G speed is ridiculous. Web pages just appear. The lack of a front facing cam is something that I thought should have landed the Cappy designers back behind the woodshed.

No Netflix no problem! Download the PlayOn app on your phone and PC. Free trial is 14 days, after its $4.99 a month. It automatically detects configuration on your pc allowing you to stream on 3g/4g. Best thing about playon is not only does it stream Netflix and and anything you want from your PC (music videos pics) it also has hulu integration! You can watch any hulu video just as you would in Netflix. Not thru a broswer but thru a deticated app. Quality is magnificient most hulu is in HD. There's even plugins so you can watch most network shows, NBC, FOX, CBS ect. Try it out! You won't be disappointed!

I buy all my ohones off contract and soon regret it. I don't regret this one. If the galaxy s 2 or iphone 5 came out tomorrow I woildnt blink an eye. 4.5 inches samoled is magnificient! The thing is super thin super light and super sexy looking. This is the best phone I've ever had, and I know everything about phones they all have their flaws or get boring after a while. Good Choice!
I just got mine yesterday, i come from a Motorola Atrix 4G.
i can honestly say I LOVE THIS PHONE!
1. EYE CANDY! super slick and sexy. i would suggest a mirrored screen protector just for that mirror finish as the phone has gray chrome around it.
2. Massive screen. 4.5. i thought the HD2 was the biggest i would of ever gone. Super Amoled screen.
3. thinest smartphone. 'nough said.
4. it snappy, very snappy. i thought my atrix was fast with its dual core... this phone easily out paces the atrix in everyday use.
5. Touchwiz. the only custom UI that i have seen that does not slow down the phone like sense or motoblur.
6. 8MP camera. this phone carrier a really good lens on its back. i took dissection pictures of my cat at school. they look real nice. i would upload but idk the rules so yeah.
7. Long long battery life. well for me at least. this was under high usage texting music pictures and other stuff. words with friends... angry birds... you know.
thats pretty much it i guess. its a really good choice. and a really great phone. you will like it.

oh yeah true dat. hmmm idk who told me it had a qualcomm. oh well. same difference right?
it is too easy to get sucked into the rom frenzy with the cappy. and then the power of suggestion that the phone is laggy and such creates this striving for improvement constantly. i know i was there. my oppinion is that the cappy is not as bad as it is made out to be if you leave it basically stock. the infuse however doesnt the shortcomings of the cappy. it has both camera, a flash, unknown sources, bigger screen, better audio vs the cappy stock(slightly). same audio hardware, but better implimented or newer drivers. and the gps hardware is not marginalized. i have come to find out that tracking in google maps can be funky on any phone but with the cappys hardware it was a nightare untill you got the jupiter.xml all corrected and played with the settings.
the infuse is good out of the box but after putting some of my known good settings from the captivate in it was great. but then after trying agps settings full time it was phenomenal! this really is the best gps i have seen. it seems the hardware layout is changed. the gps seems to work during phone calls(didnt on the cappy, god forbid you are driving and someone calls you) as does the camera.
i got laughed at when i complained about photos in phone calls in the captivate section no one would work on it, now id bet it is a hardware limitation. now if im on speaker phone with someone who doesnt have video calling i can just text them pictures

Speed problems with my Sensation!?!

The only real problem I have with the sensation, is it's speed. It's taking forever to get here. Sense 3.0 lagged my delivery time. Dual core my ass!
Anybody else having this problem? Figured I'd ask as all others seem to be having a problem in some way or another with the Sensation.

+1 Agreed.
Mine is flying. I think you're confuse about speed and smoothness. If you think you don't, exchange.
Honestly the Sensation doesn't seem any smoother with Sense 3.0 than my G2 running Virtuous Unity 1.24 @ 1.2ghz. But I bought it for the 4.3" screen and thin form factor.

Ok, want some quicktips to get a sensation out of your smartphone ?
-root it
-get some good system apps
-remove all unnecessary apps/systemapps
-secure it
-optimize it
-replace sense with zeam launcher/ something else.
-Overlock it if possible
-clean the autostarts
and voila, you got your sensation.

Ok, want some quicktips to get a sensation out of your smartphone ?
-root it
-get some good system apps
-remove all unnecessary apps/systemapps
-secure it
-optimize it
-replace sense with zeam launcher/ something else.
-Overlock it if possible
and voila, you got your sensation.

I got a Sidekick 4G ( Sensation ) lolol .
about to get a OC'ed Lagfix kernal hehe . w/ a nice ROM w/ TouchWiz 4.0
I have used 4 brand new Sensations with nothing loaded on them and all of them have performed differently. I'm trying to make sense (pun intended) of it. The first one I got was fast and smooth, the second one was laggy as hell, the third was a little laggy and the forth one was fast and smooth. Does anyone know why the same device would act differently when it comes to performance?
Here is a little video I made. Let me know if yours is this fast.

Mine was in the beginning now its starting to lag pretty bad, especially since I have the g2x to compare it against. Have had the carousel effect in a few days now. My try a factory reset but I dread the thought of having to reinstall a billion apps

That looks just like mine. I consider it fast and smooth. But then I'm coming from a Vibrant, a picture of which is in the dictionary under "laggy".
I tried a demo unit at a TMO store and it was not as smooth. A bit jerky or stuttery when flipping between home screens. I disabled animation, but it made no diff. So, it does seem there's an odd variation between phones.

Yea, I wouldn't keep the auto install option on. For some reason I think it makes the phone slower. What is the carousel effect? I know what the carousel is but what is it doing? Engaging every time you go to scroll side to side? Both mine and my wife's Sensations are pretty damn fast. Not quite as fast as the G2X since it's running vanilla but I have no doubt in my mind that the Sensation will be just as fast once we get the bloatware and Sense off of it. I have not restarted my phone for 3 days now and have never gone that long with any other Android device. Usually when day two rolls around, my devices start to bog out but not my Sensation. Might be the added RAM or something. Once we get everything off of it though. We are going to have over 400mb of free memory sitting on the phone.

The carousel effect is when you get the homescreens to whirl around by swiping the screens fast. What do you mean by auto install option on?

If you go into privacy settings there is a option called "Back up my Settings" and "Automatic Restore". If you enable both of them, all of your settings and apps will be backed up on Googles servers so when ever you get a new phone or reset your phone, all of your apps will be installed automatically and all of your phone settings will stay the way you had them. I have done this about 6 times with the same phones and every time I do it, the phone performs slower for some reason. I know it sounds weird but it does. Try it out though. See what happens.

You didn't get a response because I don't speak gibberish. How about translating that into English next time and perhaps you might gets some feedback
I guess you were talking about how long it took to get in the Sensation forums through the XDA app. Were you being vague on purpose? You made it seem like a general statement. Next time, try to specify what exactly is lagging.
The dual core processor had nothing to do with getting here. The second core will not kick in unless it needs to and lets be honest, the XDA app doesn't need two cores to run it. There have been plenty of times I have seen the dual core CPU do its thing. I blew through, what my Nexus S and Nexus 1 would have lagged through.
Lastly, to respond with an answer for your post. Sometimes these forums get a ton if traffic in a short period ff of time which causes them to lag. There are also plenty of people working on these forums all day long to keep them running so people like me and you can agrue over dumb **** the other person probably knows both about.

[Q] Are Most Of These ROMs A Waste? What Do You Think?

*I did not make this thread to discredit, discourage or bash any devs, I am simply asking for opinions on a subject that dawned on me recently. Please speak freely and non biasly. Thanks!*
OK guys, here goes. I've been experimenting with alotta ROMs lately, mostly ICS. In time I've realized that we never have the features that we paid for, mainly 1080p recording. If the phone doesn't oporate the way we paid for it to (And I paid full price) then is it not a waste to flash the ROM?
I love the speed and battery efficiency I get from the devs and I'm blown away by the amount that they've accomplished, but I've been recently contemplating falling back to stock simply because I'll have the awesome camera. I'd even settle for a top notch Sensation ROM. I know this sounds like a complainer thread, but I've been really losing morale with this device. It seems there will be no more hard KB devices so I might defect to a One S or wait for a One S equivalent from T-mobile. What do you guys think?
I will never give up my keyboard. You leave if you like. And these custom roms are supposed to give our phone something it would've never had otherwise. A functioning ICS rom. If you can't live without everything working, then you should stick to stock or stock tweaked. (I can't use 1080p even if it was working. Don't have a fast enough card )
Rom building and compiling takes a lot of time and effort, not to mention skill.
Essentially, these fine devs are doing the work HTC and T-Mobile were never going to do. Lazy greedy scum they are

I personally don't think that it's a waste to flash these ROMs. Mainly because IMO (aside from 1080p recording) we're really getting more than what we paid for if you think about it. All the features that are available with ICS alone would have made this device more expensive to begin with off the shelf. Then add features of CM9 that these devs are cooking into the ICS ROMs or the features of Sense/ICS ROMs combined together...I think we it's a great thing what's been accomplished.
If 1080p recordning is the main thing you really want then I'd follow the previous suggestion and flash stock or go with a modded stock ROM. There will be no defecting for me. I love physical keyboards! I use mine daily in one way or another.
Even if it comes to the point that nothing on this device is supported anymore I will have this phone lol. We have enough to be used as DDs. So all in all for me, I don't think these ROMs are a waste to flash/use.

This is why I use Bulletproof. It has everything we paid for, and is much more stable and optimized than the stock rom. I would love to have an ICS rom, but I want everything to work on my phone. This is my choice. I am happy with using a GB rom, because my phone does everything I want it to. If it isn't broke don't fix it.

I'm sorta in the same boat as OP. I've flashed everything and found camera limitations with all of them, so I'm really waiting a 1080p fix with flawless camera otherwise before I go back to ICS. I really love how far everything has come this year in terms of development and it's much appreciated, but I don't plan on going back to an ICS ROM without a fully functioning camera. I have an 19 month year old son and just can't risk it!
My dream is ICS with Sense, but even just for a nice camera fix, I think I'd be okay without Sense.
Running Mik in the meantime. Bulletproof was nice except for the green tint to everything.
Hoping for a camera fix soon. Wallet will be opened then!

I am in north carolina, my dev computer is in pennsylvania. I bought yogi's doubleshot, he doesn't have one anymore.
I don't know what I have, but whatever it is it's hundreds of miles away and wholly unavailable.
If you want to host the UV kernels, they were made by yogi, but I'm sure it'll be okay - only issue is no sources, so...?
If it's kosher to link them up here, then feel free to host them and make a thread for it if you want, I have no issue with it, if it'll help someone that's what's important.
Just make sure to credit yogi, and make sure to be explicit about no support from the authors. I'm not quite in a position to do so yet with my new job, still absorbing a lot of data and training, so my brain and body are worn and exhausted after my shift ends in the morning.
I'll bring this to yogi's attention, or at least ask about it, but I don't see an issue with sharing it, provided the two requests I made above are filled.

Oh, not gonna quote the whole OP yet again in the thread on page 1... But...
Op - if you feel something is lacking, you are in the place to give you the best shot at figuring out how to make it do what you want.
As far as getting all the features you paid for, well, you paid htc or tmobile, or a little of both, or you bought it secondhand, but the money was originally collected by one or both of those entities. If you use the software they provide, then you get what you paid for.
Using an alternate software version, like what you find here, actually gives you much more then what you paid for it - for you paid nothing, and got a whole lot in return.
You can jump in and help the active devs solve problems, or wait until they do, but the argument about getting whatever value you invested real money into evaporates the moment you flash any non-stock OS.

I doubt he'd mind with proper credit. Let me know if I can help. I'm still settling in here and am a newb as far as the Doubleshot goes. I'd love to support this device with whatever can like I try to do with all my devices. Just looking for what needs to be done/or something helpful that's not too much beyond my expertise or time lol! I am a bit concerned and confused on the framework variations between ICS and GB but I can pick it up as I go. I've only run 2 ICS roms between two devices so I have a lot of reading to do. Well, my computer is here if y'all need it. Feel free to pm me if anyone needs it or if I can help.

[Solved] Stock Camera in non Sense?

I fell in love with Sense 3 on my Evo 3D, but I think I'm over it now. I'm tired of the behemoth ROM downloads, etc.
However, I am in love with this fast focus, pic in video, etc camera that this One S has stock. What can I do ROM wise to cut the fat but keep the amazing camera? I want CM10, but the camera sucks. I understand that the camera is probably something sense framework related isn't it?

Look at the Sense-based ROMs under the development forum. You won't find anything like it in AOSP/AOKP.
Try sense based miui (there are 2 different ones, make sure you get sense based). Personally not a miui user, but sounds like what you may be looking for.

I'll try that out, normally I wouldn't but I'm intrigued on this phone. I can't imagine how sense would mesh with that.
I'm blown away by this camera though. Not to veer the thread off too far but anyone know how to do the burst mode? I found something about limit to 20 shots per second or something like that, but I can't get it to burst
Just keep holding the shutter button down and it will start bursting until you left you finger or reach the limit

Yeah I was running that for a while. Still doesn't match the speed & smoothness of JB/CM10 (IMO) but true it does give you perks from both. Good news is we get official JB within the next month, so won't have to compromise much longer :victory:
So when official One S JB comes out then cyanogenmod can have the stock camera? I've been running Trickdroid but there's no updates on that and my phone starts to run like crap after a couple weeks. Just put CM10 Back on today, and forgot no good camera.
cm10 camera can do burst mode, but it's very clunky and in the menu.
