[Q] Regarding about revolutionary root - HTC Sensation

Im a noob so dont bash me, thanks. Also, I tried to search for something similar with my question but I end up wasting alot of time and just got me confused. Sorry if this was already discussed or something.
So here is my situation, I s-off and rooted my sensation using revolutionary, and thats all I have done. Everything else are stock.
By the time the official HTC ICS OTA arrives will I be able to download and install it without any problems? I read alot of topics regarding about root and ota but those just got me so confused, so can someone give me a solid answer? Thanks
Cheers.

For OTA, S-OFF doesn't matter, but root could be a problem.
Also, I think you have a custom recovery now.
To receive OTAs need to have stock recovery and hboot image (not 100% sure about hboot thou).
The best is to run an official RUU before the OTA.
This will prevent any problem and you can always gain root again later.

Sensation gone Down.... helpppp

hi guys... i got Big probleam...
few fays ago i had my S-off and root open.... (no Super CID and S-On)
today i got officially 2.3.4 but it's not install because of S-off...
than direct i process to do S-On without Super CID.
in the process of S-On again my phone is gone Blanck not anything happen in my phone... no fastboot noting ihad try many tymes battery out and in but nothing...
Please please....
If your talking about the Over The Air update from T Mobile for 2.3.4 you cant receive updates from T Mobile once you have S off Tis the point of having S Off Just find yourself a sweet rom to download and use that the devlopers will update your rom way better than T Mobile ever will
sorry to hear about your luck. never tried turning s-on. but i thought i remember reading that it's way more dangerous to do that then it is to get s-off. you're likely sol. try posting this in q & a, you might get more help and the answers you need there. good luck
You can STILL get OTA with S-OFF. I did and many others here did too. You cannot get OTA with root. Root and S-OFF are very different things.
I would take this to the Q/A section, as people there jump for things like this. Get your USB cable ready and your thanks button prepared!

[Q] Possible to S-off/root after FOTA 1.47.401.4?

Hi, guys.
I've just started using my Desire S and have updated to (OTA) 1.47.401.4. From my previous experience with Wildfire (Buzz), you could not root your phone anymore after some update... So far I'm running on stock software;haven't done anything to my new phone yet, but I'd like to try some custom ROM with sense 3.0.
So, would you be so kind and olease tell me whether it is safe to go on with S-OFF and ROOT procedures as described in guides on this forum, after the above mentioned update?
Thanks a lot in advance!
It is described for right that version here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194488
I have gone through this with 1.47 too without any issues.
Thanks for the tip...
But as I've been reading thru the forum, no one seems to have problems after updating with the stock update to the 1.47.401.4. version...
OR, did all of those just update to the mentioned version with a custom ROM?
Would any of you who have updated via the OTA update please confirm that it is safe/no problem S-OFF-ing and rooting the phone with Revolutionary and SuperOneClick? After the 1.47.401.4. OTA, that is?
Please, I don't wonna screw myself into bricking my phone or putting myself in a situation from which it would take me hours to get it back on track again. And there is no straight answer to my question.
Just a simple "YES" or "NO" will do...

T-Mobile Branded Desire S Rooting

Hi all
I just wanted to make this post to make sure I know the exact process before I go ahead with this. Let me give you a little background....
I got a T-Mobile branded Desire S about 8 months ago and left it completely stock, after a while had an OTA update and from then on had constant problems with not receiving txts etc. So I S-offed and rooted with the RevX website and manually updated the radio to the latest version I could find. This fixed all my problems and everything was fine for months but then one day the phone just froze and without reading up too much I just started pressing buttons to reset/pulled the battery etc and ended up killing the phone completely.
Fast forward to now and I've just got a replacement phone but it has the older software on again so I'm not receiving txt messages again. I guess I need to update the radio image again to sort it but was hoping someone could let me know the exact process.
I assume I should use the RevX website again to S-Off/root then install CWM and the updates but which order and which versions should I be installing? I want to get it right up to date with 3.3.5 and sense 3.0 but not one of the custom ROMs.
Really appreciate anyone who takes the time to answer so thanks in advance.
First of all, please post stuff like this in Q&A. Secondly alpharevx is outdated now. Use revolutionary to S-OFF.
But now I'm confused. Do you want to update the radio and then S-ON again and get the latest update, or install a stock rom?
Sent from my Desire S using xda premium
Well ideally I'd like to not need to do anything! but at the moment I don't receive txt messages so I need to get it working. I don't want to use custom roms anyway so just need to upgrade to the latest official version.
If I understand correctly from what I've read I should use revolutionary to s-off then a program to root the phone. Then I could install 4ext and then install one of the 3.3.5 versions that works on a s-off/rooted phone and then finally update the radio to the version that works with 3.3.5?
Been reading up a little more and I will be using revolutionary to s-off the phone but should I install the recovery that comes with that? I assume this is CWM? Can I then overwrite it with 4ext if I want to?

Hey guys, I'd like to root and S-OFF my HTC desire s. Which is the best way? The only thing I've done to my phone since I own it is install the official ruu running ICS.

Do yourself a favour and read the stickies in the Dev forum, then search the DS forums as this question has been asked and answered countless times already. You need to know and understand what you are doing and why or you risk getting yourself into a situation you will struggle to get out of.
I'm not an absolute beginner. I've already rooted and S-OFF my previous phone, the HTC Desire. I know what I am going to do.
I just wanted to know if the procedure to root this ics ruu is the same as before.
Thanks
If you know what you're going to do - then do it.
If you don't - read the stickies.
This thread is a waste of time, yours and others'.
You cannot S-OFF the default ICS RUU hboot - for that, you will need to downgrade to an older hboot (0.98.x) by flashing an older RUU for your phone (there are threads around here that will let you know how to do that) and then S-OFF.
However, you do not need to S-OFF to root the ICS rom - you only need to unlock the bootloader through htcdev.com. Keep in mind that this voids the warranty. After you unlock the blootloader, you can flash a custom recovery via fastboot commands (search the forum) and then flash the SU (or SuperSU) binary and app in recovery. That's exactly what I had done as soon as the ICS RUU came out. This is hardly a detailed guide, but it's a starting point, good luck.

[Q] need help with installing custom rom on htc sensation pyramid

hi everyone
i havebeen struggling with this for 2 years now. i have HTC sensation with hboot 1.18.xxxx that i bought in 2011. after the first year i have been keen to move to a newer rom. i have tried to look up inf in xda and elsewhere and got no where with this.
i have been worried about bricking so much that i didnt try to many weird procedures. i had even tried to go through with the android revolution installation procedure but failed right on. because revolutionary does not with with my device even though thr hboot is supported.
i badly need to move to a newer jelly bean based rom or later else my device is like a stone-age crap. i sincerely request some straight forward process / guidance of getting through this without weird, wire trick etc.
i really want to keep this device instead of buying a new device for no reason. but i dont know how to start and how to end. kindly help me out.

This is definately not the place to ask for "all inclusive help".
You should at least do some own basic researches or leave your phone as it is,
especially when you're worried about bricking your device.
There are so many excellent descriptions here, that could guide you to flash a custom rom.

If you are on hboot 1.18 you don't need to do the wire trick for s-off, just have a look at this.
If you searched a little bit, you'd find out yourself.
But even the wire trick is nothing "bad", I did it on 6 devices till now.
I'd like to encourage you to simply read/search a little bit more here in the forums before coming back and asking for help.

Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2751187 to gain S-OFF. Don't worry about the htcdev part.
I did it on a complete stock sensation xe with hboot 1.27 or 1.29 (can't remember exactly).
Just use the temp root and rumrunner.
For any information read the thread first, before asking.
Also this thread should be moved, because it doesn't belong into the development section.

i went through the thread again and again but still find it somewhat confusing. I cant seem to separate the temproot process start and end in there. can someone outline just the temproot procedure and the pre-requisite for it ?
Does temproot require controlbear files ? rumrunner site says it requires a htc dev unlocked device. is that a must ?

I'm not 100% sure about the exact steps anymore, but you don't need Controlbear, you just need the temp root.
When you have temp root, run rumrunner and follow the instructions.
I said read the thread, cause it might be possible that you get the message that it didn't work, while it actually did work.
You'll get everything needed in the thread. Otherwise just ask.

if revolutionary.io method doesn't work then try to update officially
see this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1672425
then try with juopunutbear or rumrunner method again

One thing you could do is:
- get your phone updated to ICS (OTA over device settings) to get the latest firmware/hboot on it
- HTC Dev unlock your device (nothing complicated, you need to have fastboot running)
- Install/flash latest 4ext recovery (once more via fastboot) and enable smart flash option
Now in recovery with updated firmware/hboot make a nandroid backup and flash almost every rom you like.
In first place I'd not flash a CM12 rom.

since you update to ics you will be able to flash every ics/jb/kk/lp custom rom you like
so should i go ahead with the official ics update?
It's up to you.
Might be you're just satisfied with your new ICS firmware.
If you want to go further, unlock and custom recovery is an quite easy step.
For custom rom s-off is not necessarily needed.

If you do the update, try again with rumrunner after it has finished.
Thanks. I updated to ICS and did a full factory reset. The device seems to be quiet smooth compared to GB though. The next update i do will be using what you suggested. Without SOFF flashing a custom rom.
When i get there i will message back on this thread. Going to test drive this ICS now for a while.time.
