Hello guys, i'm in love with the One S, but i've been watching the forums lately, and the One S is receiving way less attention then the One X.
We have at least 3 big and great custom Roms for the One X, and i can't see any for the One S yet.
Do you guys think the One S android development is going to reach the One X sometime?
I want to know this, before i buy the phone, or else i'm getting a One X
One x doesn't have a bootable cyanogenmod..mainly sense roms. The desire HD took a while to kick in on dev side also..its preference
The only development missing is really cyanogenmod daily type and tool sets Modding battery etc.you won't be missing out on much.plus our battery's last longer and doesn't have the flex issue the first x stock has lol
It is slow bit but come onn...crap phones have active development...it will happen.

One X counts as "Flagship" so more ppl buying it - more development. But I think after first few 2-3 month ppl will understand that S is as good as X, also I guess it wont be problem to take same roms from X and make them avaible for S.
Definetly not something what should affect your decision about what phone to buy. Choose which u like more, the development of roms will be good for both.
Maybe One S will get more attention after it gets released on Tmobile.

Well, thank you, you guys have helped me alot. One more question, about the battery life on the One S, is it good? Can it be compared to the HTC Desire?
Once again, thanks!

I'm so happy that I opted for the S instead of the X. In my (humble) opinion, most people have been drawn to the Quad core of the X - but it seems the S is just as, if not more, powerful!
I think as people realise that the S is up there in the power ratings then development will pick up. I hope so, I miss having my Insertcoin\ARHD etc ROMs to choose from =D

Its not the Quad-core that stands out on X, its the 720p IPS SLCD2 display. Its the best on the market today. I havent seen One S in person, but usually SAMOLED displays suck big time, perhaps HTC done some calibration on this one to make it better.
I love the Amoled screen, I thought it was ace on the SGS.... I think its even better on the One S....
if someone doesnt like it, They tend to slate it, and that puts other people off... instead of just sayin 'personally its not for me, i prefer the xxxxxx screen' they rant and rave 'oh its **** dont waste your money'
and it gives it a bad reputation

I won't buy a phone if I don't think there's going to be a good amount of development for it. That being said, I think the fact that its a global phone will help alot.
and its being announced by T-Mobile right now.

i also can't wait for s-off. the htc dev method isn't a choice for me.
I'm disappointed in the developers which decide blind for the one x. Sure it is the Flagship, but with years old manufacturing technique. nobody can say that a comparable 40nm manufactured cpu saves more energy that a 28nm manufactured one. faster sure, but a pockedheater^^
only one good dev for a rom and one for the kernel is enought for us. I love to flash costum roms, best two times a week^^ i miss it.

Just curious, why is HTC Dev not a choice for you?
I just got my one s yesterday and yes it does have the 1.7ghz s3 but I don't care to much coz with the overclocked speed there isn't a big difference but the one thing I am worrying about is updates I'm currently on 1.11 which I think is a pretty old firmware so I'm just wondering if anyone has got info on when we will get the update? Or if anyone with an s3 is on a different version to me.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
well I think that HTC made a big mistake in naming this S3 version just "one S" like the original one because it's a lot of counfusing, basically this is another phone you cannot get the same updates of the S4 version. I think that it would also be better if here on the forum there would be 2 different section one for S4 and the other for S3 ...
Yeah I kinda agree we deffo need another form or atleast section I am really enjoying this phone its quick and I like it a lot the thing I am worrying about is updates but then again there is the s4 one x and tegra so if u look at it like that they have basically just done the same for the one s.

Well on some sites, like gsmarena you can see it is named HTC One S C2., so I think it is more of a salesman's problem, cause they don't know what they are selling. There might be a different secion if we started to have some progress on the development. I am trying to make stock rooted flashable version of a rom. When this is working, there will be some starting point. For now we have root access, and TWRP recovery. This is a goood start if you ask me, my previous phone still got only root method, and eve that I had to figured out by myself .

I agree with light_n_roses that HTC made a mistake in just calling it "One S". HTC themselves should have called it the One S C2 or something because giving it the same "One S" name has given potential for confusing the retail channel, especially in markets where both versions might be available.
It is my sincere hope that this has not been a deliberate attempt to substitute an inferior specification product rather than putting forward one with a different name that would be easily distinguished by a buyer. But that might impinge on their ability to sell the One S C2 at the same price as the (S4) One S.
So, my note got run over, and I have an upgrade available... so I think I am going to use it on a new device. I hate the lag with the S3 chip in the note, so I want to go with either the galaxy s3 or the HOX. The HOX is a bargain right now, at $99, and seems hard to resist. BUT, I hate hate hate bloatware, inlcuding sense and touchwiz. So whichever I choose, has to have an active developement community... particularly AOSP, and even better - cyanogenmod. Is this device getting attention from CM developers for CM9 and 10 or is activity slowly dying down now that the galaxy S3 is out?
First thing you should do is take a peak in the Development section and judge for yourself, seems pretty simple because it is that simple.
Development has been held back because of kernel source but that was all just released this past week and things are actually picking up quite nicely. I won't explain any further because 30 seconds in the Development section will open your eyes better than my writing can.

Just like above. Check out development section. There is cm10 being worked on as I type this. Seems really good from what I see. I think you will be happy.
SeNt FrOm A nOcTuRnAl'D one X!
The S3 has a lot going for it, but it's no contest on which has the superior screen, especially with outside viewing. That to me is the biggest differentiator. Development should pick up now that the source (for 4.0.3 anyways) is out.
Sent from my HTC One X
The development community is moving forward here. I personally would choose the One X over the SGS3 every time, but that's just my opinion.
My HOX has been Nocturnal'd. Has yours?
Yeah just as others have mentioned, it took a bit before kernel source was released, but even then we had quite stable CM9/AOKP builds, and extremely nice sense ROMs. But now that source is finally out I think we can expect lots of future development, with Jelly Bean builds of CM10 and AOKP out before too long I'd imagine, and custom kernels already being released. Both are really great phones but IMO especially for $99, I'd definitely take the HOX over the SG3.
If you were going to.make the decision based only on the development progress made on a device we all have to be honest in saying the s3 is the clear choice considering we just got source. But as far which device I rather own and live with I have to say one x. But you'll there's plenty of threads comparing the device if you search the forums.

This phone has good hardware the software is fine too but right now all development is either into a stock rom with different features or some built that mostly work. I say wait before flashing anything too major I have had so many small issues that are because of things not being updated on OP or just too many pages or the developer themselves or sudo developer just releasing things they have no idea what they do. Just hold a while and give it some time to flourish. I would root and unlock the bootloader now and just sit pretty.
Really wish I had gotten a Galaxy Nexus instead of this phone tired of messing with phones to have a working good rom.
I Had s3 along with htc one x. But screen of s3 sucks when compared to htc one x especially under direct sunlight. If You compare both phones screen side by side u will understand the difference. But if ur ok with super amoled screen then go with s3 because always having extra ram is good
Slcd on htc one x kicks s3 ass

Seriously, these are custom ROMs by people who donate their time and energy. And they're free. It takes time to find the bugs and work them out.

I also really like the idea of just getting a nexus device, but the hardware just doesnt even compare any more... the 5mp camera would be a real killer. A co worker of mine has the galaxy nexus and while, hardware wise, it falls way short... the end user UI experience is flawless.
Well, I took the plunge. Time to start hacking. One another note, holy **** is this thing snappy. The S4 makes a HUGE difference.

I did not blame any developer in my post and thanks for assuming I do not know how to read. I know how to read very well and have been modding and messing with devices since I was a child. What I am referring to is more than one post in which the supposed developer or person just relaying what they found does not know anything about what they are doing and posting things they " think work " I have no problem in testing things for a developer and letting them know and I have in fact donated to developers that work on the One X specifically.
I just have run into at least since I have had my one X where I have flashed a file to say add something for sound that messed up the video because the actual OP did not seem to understand what his flash was doing.
But I guess I will stop posting if giving advice on development and my opinion on the current situation rubs you the wrong way..
I'm trying to understand how making custom ROMs works, and I love sense based ROMs so I was wondering that since the One X+ has been released with a (presumably) new version of Sense, will that soon be able to be ported to the One XL? Or is this different since the processors in the devices are different etc? Could someone educate me just a little bit?
Thanks!

To the best of my knowledge, One X goes with Android 4.0 and "Sense 4"
And from what I've read One X+ has Android 4.1 and "Sense 4.1". [from HTCs website]
Either way, If you like Sense there are roms that have been modded so you get the latest version of sense on your phone.
If all you want is strict Sense 4.1, try CleanRom.
I stuck with the Sense roms for awhile, then went over to CM10, and now am at Liquid.
They aren't as much different roms, as Android 4.0 shipped on the One X and Android 4.1 shipped on the One X+.
And to answer the next, roms on different phones are generally different because yes, the specs are different. Where you may have a phone with a bigger screen and a hardware keyboard, I have a phone with a small screen and a touch screen keyboard. The specs are easily different, requiring some modding - would be required to get the same stable rom on both phones.
The one x + is running sense on top of jelly bean. Just be patient, and have faith in our devs. They will port it when it's ready.

Bingo.
I have full faith in the Devs and can't believe the hard work they do to support all of our habits , I started flashing a month ago and I am totally addicted, finally feel like the money I spend on my cell phone plan and on the device itself has come full circle because of the hard work of developers.
In any event - thanks for confirming what I thought about the differences in processors and porting OSs to the XL. I'll keep my eyes peeled for when JB is released for the XL hopefully before the new year.
Got that right!

I too had an Inspire and that phone benefited from the European Desire HD being the same phone. If you look at the International One X forum it looks just like the Desire HD forum, a lot of the same devs are there. Our One X doesn't have as many different ROMs as those other phones but the ones we do have are top notch. If the devs we have stay around here I'll definitely be a happy camper for the 2 years that I'll have this phone.

Hi,
I am wondering if it is worth replacing my HTC Desire that I actually love and has loads of support and ROMs available. I'm currently running on the MildWild Oxygen ROM and it's great!
I have a budget of around 200euros which could get me a second hand HTC Sensation, potentially a Samsung Galaxy Nexus? Or for a wild card the HTC HD2 which I seem so see a lot of good things written about.
My question is,it worth it or better hold out another year, have a little more money and make a significant step up? And to what? Nexus 4 if I can get my hands on one...
Sorry, lots of questions there, but I would appreciate people's opinions on this.

first off post your question here, its for anyone who is looking for new devices
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846277
And imo, if you budget, is this small and you enjoy your current phone, I recommend not to get a new phone because whatever new phone you gonna get would not be that much better than your current one.
click thanks if helped
Well it really depends on your usage and needs. If your happy with how your hardware is performing than you could definitely save yourself some dollars staying around these devices you've mentioned. I know what you mean I was quite happy with my Desire HD (rooted running 4.1.1) however it cant quite keep up with todays mobile games and apps so when I broke the screen a couple weeks ago I decided it wasnt worth me fixing ( cost would be about $50) and took up my carriers offer to upgrade and got a Note II. But like I said, it truly depends on your usage and needs. Hope this helped your decision..
