I have an unlocked HTC HD7, but don't have a developer account.
I have only just read that installing Mango re-locks your phone.
How would I unlock my phone after installing Mango?
I'm half way through installing Mango lol...
I have registry editor and touchXperience (dunno if they will work on Mango)
I also done the thing to stop the phone being re-locked (the HTC only thing where you install HTC Connection Setup and put the CustClear.provxml on your phone)

Try a search or try reading a couple threads, all of this has been answered already numerous times.
Mango re-locks your phone, and any homebrew apps you have installed will not work once you update to Mango. There is no way to Chevron unlock your phone at all yet. You need a developer account to unlock, and even then, because of new app restrictions Mango introduces, certain homebrew apps (particularly ones that mess the the system itself) will no longer work.
I did read other threads but couldn't make out a straight answer :/
Damn, so you think we're gonna have to wait for Chevron Labs or will someone here crack it?

The Chevron people will not crack it because they are not working directly with Microsoft to offer a cheap solution for non-developers to unlock their phones. Those plans have yet to be announced yet, but its coming soon.
I'm assuming eventually, someone other than the Chevron people will figure it out. They always do.
I have an idea Im going to try out tonight. Dont know if the mango update is gonna delete/move/overwrite the file but if the file is still there from unlocked nodo to mango then it should unlock the phone again after the mango update allowing you to install advanced config and preventing relock and allow max unsigned apps.
Tried to do it this morning but me being stupid forgot to prevent relock when updating nodo. So I ended up just updating all the way to mango and will reflash a pre-nodo rom and try it all again when I get a couple of hours to myself tonight.
As long as the file doesnt get touched, which it might not since all my other stuff was still there after mango though I couldnt use it, I cant see it not working. Though Im not a super techie.
How about the Trick with the HTC Connection Setup? We just need to put the Provxml in the Windows folder before updating and after the successfully Update start the HTC Connection Setup to rewrite the Registry Information!?

Just downloaded from market and works fine. Wasn't under HTC apps though. Had to search for it.
Did you sideload it on before mango? Cuz I planned on installing it from the market when on unlocked nodo.
And I'm gonna give it a go now. I'll report back.
It Worked.... I repeat IT WORKED.
Gonna start a new thread with my custclear.provxml. Ill link to it in a few minutes.
Heres the thread with my custclear.provxml file and a short rundown.

Hi everybody. I'm starting a new thread because there are quite a few issues on this phone and I wanted your help in understanding them.
I'm using an Orange HTC desire S which I bought from a local market in India. This was about six months back and it picked up my Vodafone sim easily so i presumed it had some kind of Sim unlocker.
PROBLEM 1
Fast forward to a few days back when I thought getting root access would be fun and would enable many more options. I booted into recovery mode and here is where the first problem kicks in.
When I boot using the volume + power button option, my phone tells me it's S-OFF and then proceeds(on its own) to a different menu. It shows two options only.
1. Device info
2. Clean S58 data
There's no way at all to return to the previous screen here on. It gets stuck here because option 1 gives me general data about the phone and option 2 runs what seems like the sim unlock problem, tells me there's no update and returns to the same menu. I'm always(2 attempts) left with only the battery pull option which invariably clears all the data on my phone and works like a hard reset.
I also tried this without the memory card and got stuck at the black screen with the red exclamation mark.
Can someone tell me what's wrong here and what I need to do to get root access.
PROBLEM 2
This is more of a confusion I face. Most of my friends using the Desire S have got the sense 3.0 update but my phone is still running on 2.1 and tells me it is up to date. On the forum, most people seem to have received the 2.3.5 and the 3.0 update. Why am I not getting it?
Is it because i'm not on the orange network or is it something else(like s off)?
What do i need to do to get the updates in India?
Thanks for reading.
Can someone tell me what's wrong and how I should proceed?

Sukrit, most of your answers are within your questions. I've highlighted them in Red...
First of all, just because you purchased it in India (Somewhere like Gaffar Market, etc) doesn't mean it's from HTC India. HTC software update doesn't look at what sim card you're using to allot upgrades to your phone... It localises you depending on the software shipped with the phone.
Secondly, your phone is an Orange branded device and unlocking stuff is usually more troublesome and dangerous on branded devices... As for the solution to PROBLEM 1 as posted by you, look inside your sd card for a file named PG88IMG.zip. If you find it, back it up on your pc and delete it from the sd card. See if that helps, as having an update zip on your memory card will force your bootloader to flash it whether you want it to do so or not... Let's call it the phone's "instinct" to flash the PG88IMG.zip if it finds it while in bootloader.
I also suggest you read the Guides in the general section carefully, especially the warning about branded devices... But since you say you're s-off, half the battle is already won and i think you'll be okay to root.
As for the battery pull, it does not reset your phone data my friend... your data will all be safe and all it does is a soft reset, NOT a hard reset. You are more likely to fry your eMMC chip doing that... and that would be a MUCH bigger problem, as i'm kinda sure your phone doesn't even have a distant cousin called "warranty"
Let me know if you found an update zip on your sd card like i mentioned above, and we'll pick it up from there.
Cheers. Hope i can be of help.
Thanks a lot for answering and helping me with my problem.

I've understood this but does it also mean that unless i'm on the Orange network, I won't get the update?
Also, great guess on where I got the phone from

I understand. There are two files that i think are relevant.
1. HTC-ANDROID-GOLD_CARD. I haven't put this in as far as I remember. Size-0 bytes.
2. PG88DIAG.nbh. I'm presuming this is the file you were talking about? There is a slight difference in name, though.
I also suggest you read the Guides in the general section carefully, especially the warning about branded devices... But since you say you're s-off, half the battle is already won and i think you'll be okay to root.

This is what is weird,Amit. If I pull the battery when the phone is at the device info and clear s58 data screen, it always hard resets. All software/contacts,basically anything on the phone memory disappears. Why does this happen?
If you think this behavior is normal then i'll remove the file in the memory card and try again.
Thanks a ton!
Let me know if you found an update zip on your sd card like i mentioned above, and we'll pick it up from there.

Why don't we start by removing the PG88DIAG file from the sd card (back it up on PC), and also the GOLD CARD file, which obviously was used by the nefarious Gaffar guys to s-off your phone...,
This will hopefully give you access to bootloader and fastboot so you can root and flash a custom recovery. Once you've done that, you can flash whatever ROM you like.
I'd recommend Endymion if you want the best possible sense 3.5 experience...
Let me know if removing those two files allows you to remain in bootloader and access recovery...
Hey Amit. Removing the two files has worked fine. Thanku
What steps should i take now to get root access?
Or, can I just load the orange ROM available on the other thread without rooting?

Congrats buddy!
Firstly, you cannot flash a custom ROM without a custom recovery...
To obtain root access, you can use Gingerbreak.apk
I suggest you just flash a custom recovery (I personally recommend 4EXT Recovery) via fastboot or you can simply use 4EXT Recovery updater app (free) or 4EXT Recovery Control app (paid, check my signature for link), then take a nandroid backup of your current ROM, and then Flash a Custom ROM.
You don't have to stick to Orange ROMs... you can flash whatever ROM you want... I highly recommend Endymion, but the choice is ultimately yours to make...
Glad you got this far... happy times ahead for you!!

Yup, everything seems to be fine. Go ahead and root your phone... flash 4EXT Recoery via 4EXT Recovery Updater app, and then after taking a backup, and doing a full wipe, flash whatever ROM you want to...
Read the instructions and guides carefully in the general and Development section prior to this, and remember...DO NOT REMOVE THE BATTERY WHILE THE PHONE IS STILL ON! It's better to try other methods to reboot it, or even let it discharge over time and switch off by itself, rather that attempt to pull battery. Othert than this, i think you're ok to flash a new ROM, and enter the amazing world of custom ROMs...
Hey. I decided to be a little experimental and just couldn't wait either; installed revolutionary and i've got root access. Ha!
Thanks so much for your help.
Now tell me, what ROM should I use?
i've also installed clockwork.

If you want a Sense 3 ROM, go for Hyperion
For Sense 3.5 (My personal favourite) go for Endymion
For crazy theming options, you can try MIUI from MIUI.us
If you like plain stock look.... Cyanogenmod.
I would however still recommend Endymion (Though i like v2.2 better than v3)
P.S. Just a friendly question... Gaffar me kitne ka pada ye phone? I bought my phone new...but my wife wants one now and i don't want to put in the money for a new phone from a mobile store...
i'll get endymion then, should follow your advise since you've helped so much. Do i need to make any changes to the hboot/radio?
and should i get both 3.1 and the add on package?
yaar, it'll be a lot cheaper now. when i bought it tab market price was around 22.5. I got it for 16.5 with box and accessories. At that time, there were only two shops that had the desire S and this was the only one that functioned properly.
i'm pretty sure you can get it for less than 13k now.
I'll try n get you the shop's name and number. i've bought both the desire and the desire s from him and they've worked well.

You can get the v3.1 without the addon initially. See how it works for you... Then you can flash the addon package if you feel like Modding the ROM. I'm still on v2.2 because I didn't feel the need to upgrade.
Please do get me the number of your guy in gaffar as I'm planning to get a galaxy note as well as a desire s...
Beamed from the Dark Side using xda premium.
Hey. Looked everywhere for the number but I just can't find it. Awfully sorry, man.
I don't know if you've ever been to Gaffar before but just incase you haven't,do ensure that you buy from a proper shop and not people with cabinets full of phones. These guys will offer you cheaper prices but will also disappear in a couple of days.
There are only 5-6 big shops which sell import phones, most of them are decent and will offer you a week or two worth of hardware guarantee. Enough for you to atleast test the phone out.

I flashed my HTC Trophy back to nodo with a custom rom and everything worked out great. I unlocked it with no problem but when interop unlocking it I lost my 3G and I didn't make a back up. Is there a reg edit or a patch or a hack to get it back?
Wait, why were you "interop-unlocking" a NoDo device? The interop-lock wasn't added until Mango. Do you mean you installed the retail Mango update on top of a custom ROM?
In any case, the two obvious options are to try running AutoDataConfig (I don't know if that works on CDMA phones, but it's just some registry settings to enable it, and then you reboot), or just either hard-reset or re-flash the ROM.

I'm actually re-flashing now. but it's all good, that's the fun of tinkering with the phone..
If i remember right heathcliff posted a fix for that in the interopt unlock thread.

Here's a basic guide for getting a custom ROM on your HTC Arrive. I cannot stress enough that you need to do your research and know the risks before going through the following steps. At best, they'll void your warranty (but gain you cool features, like tethering). At worst, they'll brick your phone. I am NOT a developer, and I take no responsibility if you brick your phone. I'm just a guy that pulled the steps together.
First, make sure Zune is not running on your computer, and get this file to downgrade your SPL to the needed level. To do that, turn the phone off, hold the volume down button, hit power while still holding volume down, then let go of power. When you see the 3 color screen, plug the phone into the computer and run the tool.
Then, get this file. READ THIS POST! You will also need to install the Windows Mobile Device Center software (32-Bit)/(64-Bit) from Microsoft. Following the above steps on your phone, first run the Loader file to install RSPL. Then run the Installer file (again, with the above steps) to install HSPL.
After you do all that, the phone will boot normally and act normal, like you didn't do anything to it. Fear not, it's ready to load any ROM that is listed as a GOLD_C ROM. DO NOT INSTALL ANY ROM THAT DOES NOT SAY GOLD_C OR ARRIVE.
To install the your ROM of choice, follow the steps on the phone and run the ROMUpdateUtility.exe file supplied by the ROM.
NOTE: There is no way to back up your apps or data on the phone when you install a new ROM. Make sure your contacts and stuff are backed up to Windows Live/Google/Yahoo before you do all of this. Make a note of your installed apps, and be ready to lose all your save games.
Again, I am not a developer, and I take no responsibility if something screws up and bricks your phone. I can't stress enough that you CAN brick your phone if you do not carefully follow instructions. Do your research and know what you're getting into.

It would be very important to mention the gold card method as a way of downgrading the SPL on half bricked devices. Also, pictures would be helpful. I can contribute to this guide if you would like. It would be nice to put this on the wiki so that everyone can contribute to it
Sure, if anyone wants to add their superior knowledge (I just posted what worked for me), I'm all for adding it, or turning the reigns over to someone more qualified.
As my phone was already unlocked, I might have been able to skip over any steps that I might have omitted. If I did omit anything, it's because I simply didn't know they existed, such as the Gold Card method you mentioned. Again, it's just what worked for me.
If there's a wiki, my steps are more than welcome to be added to it by anyone who wants to do so. I just made this post because I had a hard time finding Arrive-specific steps.
As to pictures, I'm not sure what you're looking for there. Photos of the steps I took, screencaps (is that possible?), or what?
And if the guide seems vague or confusing, it can be pulled down, as well. I don't want to brick anyone's phone by my lack of technical knowledge.

Any word if this works for US Cellular CDMA devices? I assume some parts are Sprint specific which would break text messaging or data on Us Cellular.
Brand new to the WP7 game, still trying to comb through the info to figure it all out. From what I can tell you need to be developer unlocked and interop unlocked to do fun stuff, but there is no way to dev unlock with out paying $99 now that chevron labs is down. Is that correct? So anyone new to the game is kinda screwed at the moment when it comes to home brew or other awesome hacks like the lockscreen widgets?

The instructions on the first post allow you to unlock the bootloader, which lets you load a custom rom. Most custom roms come fully unlocked (dev, interop, AND allowing native code). Once you have a custom rom you're all set. As far as unlocking the bootloader, it should work for you. It's not carrier specific, only model specific. Read all the info at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195647 and pay special attention to the part about Model ID's.

You have SPL 1.25, no HSPL.
Again sorry but I am new to this. I have unlocked via this method. Am I correct that this is an interop unlock?
?

totally depends on the ROM that you've installed.
I did something really dumb even though I was advised not to. I managed to get the Windows Phone 10 Technical Preview on my HTC One M8 for Windows. The OS version that got pushed to it simply is not compatible with this hardware and so many things don't work. I want to go back but the Microsoft-provided recovery tool doesn't detect the phone because it was never intended to work with this model. In short, my question is does anyone have a way to just flash an HTC One M8 for Windows back to the factory T-Mobile ROM that it came with out of the box? If so, where do I get it and how can I flash to it? HTC has no recovery tool to speak of for this phone, Microsoft was just as much help, and TMo wants me to pay an insurance deductible before they will replace the thing. I will be ever so grateful if someone can help out.
Thanks!

Generally I think you are out of luck until they launch the Windows 10TP for HTC M8's. When that happens, you should be able to use the Windows Phone Recovery Tool to re-flash your phone. It looks like it's basically a re-skinned version of the Lumia Software Recovery tool, and it only makes sense for them to release this as well if they are going to be providing a way to recover and flash non-Lumia branded phones in the future.
There is a way to re-flash the HTC One M8 for Windows if you have the ROM, but so far only the Verizon version has leaked. I hope this is not your only phone, because if you wait a month or so you should be able to re-flash using the Microsoft tool
You have absolutely no right to be mad at Microsoft, HTC and/or T-Mobile for the problems. They are completely justified making you pay the deductible to get this fixed, why should they eat the cost of fixing it?
Don't get me wrong, I don't blame anyone but myself for this. I'm simply surprised that there isn't a recovery option out there in general. Someone could have a problem that isn't their fault at all that could benefit from having this. That being said, I have an open ticket with the HTC dev team. All I really want is access to a ROM that must clearly already exist. The software got on the phone in the first place, right? Of course I am not a dev and probably have no idea what I'm talking about. I apologize if I'm coming off as an ass looking for a hand out. It just seems to me that this is a simple issue with a simple fix. I know from when I had a Lumia device that I could open up the navifirm+ software and download any ROM for any windows phone from any region of the world.

Fair enough. Its a bit weird that only Nokia put out any kind of program to re-flash phones, but I have a feeling that the app Microsoft has put out will, going forward, be used to reflash any Windows Phone that is having problems. They kind of need to provide that functionality if they are going to take control of the update process from the carriers (which i know they want to do, whether they actually pull it off remains to be seen).
I'd say just hang in there, you will likely be able to re-flash in a month or so. I hope you can somehow get access to the rom, but there isn't program released to flash it on the phone (though there are ways, look at the Verizon RUU thread. There is also a Youtube video out there showing how to do it)
i was the first with htc w8 (tmous) to hack the w10 beta on it if you check my twitter.
the only reason why i even considered to do this is because i have a way out.
that can't be said for public. so why the hell you didn't check if you have
a way to go back to stock before even considering such a highly
experimental thing to your precious device?
sure you can't expect any support from ms or tmous for that scenario.
i flashed back to w81 the next day already because of htc related bugs.
i will restore it for you if you send it to me and pay 2-way shipping.
this is a one time personal offer from me that i will do for you.
contact me via pm if you didn't send it in yet.
let this be a lesson to you guys...

You might be out of luck for now at the moment. I'm sure the TMo ROMS aren't available, otherwise you would be able to. Remember that the trick to update to Windows 10 Preview was AT YOUR OWN RISK due the fact that the phone isn't OFFICIALLY SUPPORTED

Is it possible to flash the stock rom on a verizon phone?
sure. by stock rom i mean the original rom meant for the device/carrier.
on verizon w8 -> verizon rom
on at&t w8 -> at&t rom
on tmous w8 -> tmous rom
don't try to flash different carrier rom. it won't work.
all 3 carrier variants have different modelID which is checked before allowing flash.

there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55201370&postcount=2
download the htc RUU that i attached to this post and extract with winrar.
place the htc w8 verizon nbh in the extracted RUU folder with filename "RUU_Signed.nbh".
then go into bootloader (power off, then hold vol-&vol+ while pressing power until it vibrates).
it will show white bootloader screen with hardware info.
when the pc installed the drivers for bootloader mode it switches from "serial" to "usb" on the bottom.
then doubleclick the ROMUpdateUtility.exe and it will flash the phone.
everything will be wiped of course.

The latest build of Win10 works way better on a One M8 btw. I have installed it using the registry method and running it without many problems. So if you have a t-mobile/at&t version of this phone (where there is no RUU availible) with windows 10 installed i advice upgrading to the latest build.
really? i noticed bugs with background picture not showing and many htc apps/settings not working..
they work now on latest build?
in the new version of windows phone recovery tool, ms added support for htc devices.

I downloaded the newest version, 2.0.3, of the recovery tool. Even though it says it supports HTC devices it still fails to rollback my Verizon HTC M8. I receive the error: "Software Package is not found on server"
This is after the tool recognizes my device and asks me to restart in boot-loader mode.
Anyone else have success with using ver. 2.0.3 with a HTC M8?

Recognized my T-Mobile M8 and flashed WP8.1 successfully.
Not able to update to latest Windows 10 mobile TP build
My HTC One is currently on 10.0.12562.84 (Build 10080). For some reason I am not able to see the latest build 10.0.12648.133 (Build 10149). Any one able to update to the latest build. Any idea why I'm not seeing it still?
Tried using the phone recovery tool to flash back to 8.1 but it says no builds available.
