[Q] SD card wipe - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
I would like to complet wipe my SD card.
I'm running offical ICS 4.0.3 with Team win recovery 2.0
I see that there is a wipe -> SD card and also SD ext
What will happen if I press the wipe SD card? SD ext?
I want to completly wipe my device and than install Android Code name + Matr1x
what will be the steps of complete SD card wipe?
Thanks!

A quickway is to boot into fastboot and type
fastboot oem lock
fastboot oem unlock
That will completely wipe your SD card/factory reset.

and then just mount SD copy the ROM and flash?
So for what the WIPE SD CARD stand for in the recovery?

Since you plan on using CNA, look through the first few posts, you will find links for Dalvik wiper and ROM wiper from Brainmaster.
There are many ways to do the same thing, like the post earlier, using ADB to clean the SD card, you can also mount and format your partitions, or you can use the above zip files from recovery to do the same thing.

[Q] Serious Help Needed - SD Won't Mount

I wanted to wipe my phone entirely and start clean before installing Virtuous Inq but I messed up somehow and now my SD Card won't mount. I had MIUI running on my HTC Sensation.
Here's what I did to my phone today -
1. First I copied my entire SD card to my computer.
2. Next I formated my SD card and deleted everything on my phone.
3. Then I went into Clockwork and Wiped Date/Factory reset.
I was hoping it would bring me to Stock but that didn't happen. It just reset MIUI. Then when I tried to mount my SD it just says I can remove even when I click mount.
Anyone know what I can do?

Bump...can anyone help?
I suspect the problem was in the formatting of your SD card. For the phone to mount it you probably need it formatted as FAT32. Did you format using a computer? Win/Mac/Linux?

This is the same SD card that I got w/ the Sensation. I never had to format or do anything to it.
OK, but you said in your original post that you formatted the SD card (item 2). If you formatted the SD card using a filesystem other than FAT32 (e.g. NTFS or HFS+) then your phone won't be able to mount it - that was what came to mind.
Have you tried to remount it using adb?
CODE: mount -o rw,remount -t /sdcard

Please see the above thread. I think the trick may be you need to insert the formatted sd card into the phone while its running VI.

Well I formatted the SD card with MIUI I thought that would wipe it clean so I start a new basically. Apparently that wasn't the case.

I don't have a Micro SD Card Reader. Does that mean I have no other options?
Bump. Character Limit.
What ROM recovery are using right now. If you are using 4EXT Recovery it have format tools on the recovery. If CWM wipe the sd card is same as format. Or you can't just mount the card using ROM recovery and format on PC.
I had the same problem with the SD card. Formatting in CWM didn't help.
Resolved it by these steps:
1. Format the new SD card with fat32 on pc.
2. Switch off the phone and remove the battery.
3. Insert the new SD and the battery back.
4. Power on in recovery mode (volume down+power).
5. Find "Partition SD card" and partition it with 64KB (CWM will partition the SD to 4GB). It should do the Mounting.
6. Reboot the phone normally.
7. Go to Settings>Storage. It should be showing 4GB free space on SD.
8. In storage options pick "Unmount SD card" and then pick "Erase SD card" in same menu, Don't remove the card from phone!!! , it shoud bring SD back to original storage.
9. Mount SD back and copy back the data from the original SD.
Hope it'll be heplful.

no external sd in recovery

i have my rom on my external sd so that when I wipe data on my internal it wont erase it, but when I go to apply zip from sd card it give no option for external. Only when I go inside the internal I see the obvious folder for external sd, but theres no files. I dont want to transfer my rom to internal and then it disappear when I wipe system and data before I flash the rom.
oh yeah....v2.5.1.3 cmw

you will need the zip file to install your rom on the internal sd, it will not install from the ext sd....when you do a wipe of data it will not erase your int sd, believe me I have a ton of files on my inter sd, with lots of zip files of roms that I have install.
so what you have to do if you have already wiped and you are sitting on the red CWM...is plug the usb cable to your phone from pc, after you are in cwm go to mounts usb storage...hit that, you should see it the inter sd pop in your windows explorer, copy your rom to install over to your phone, then do your wipes it will not take the files away from your inter sd...then install your rom...
the only way to errase all the information from the INTERNAL SD, is going into CWM, advanced options, erase or delete all the information with the options on there
i just booted into stock GB and did a factory reset with a format usb. After it restarted, i put the rom on my internal. I wanted my internal to be wiped clean before i installed. You just dont know the crap left behind from old roms.
I think it's because of CWM is not mapped correctly. Correct me if am wrong.

[Q] Push ROM from hboot or fastboot

From my bootloader I did a factory reset.
It wiped my SD card and it will no longer mount.
I can get into recovery, but I can not mount the SD card to put a rom on it.
I did a fastboot flash of the boot.img but that is as far as I can get.
How do I fix/mount the SD card and push a ROM to it so I can flash it?

You have put your self in a major mess. You should have partitioned the SD card using CWM. Now you can try to partition SD card using CWM just forget the 1Gb partion that you lost.

How do people without an SD Card flash ROMs?

Just very curious for those that do not have an sd card, how do you guys flash ROMs? Since everything (pics, app/data, nandroids, flashables, etc.) are all stored on just the internal sd card.

You can flash a ROM without wiping the internal SD card. Just wipe the Dalvik, Cache and Data. The internal SD card contents should be preserved. You may want to backup everything first (just in case). You may also want to delete the Android folder before installing a different ROM.

No that is not the proper way to do a FRESH, CLEAN install.... Which is what I am talking about.

You do not have to wipe the internal SD to have a clean install. But you can if you want to. Download the ROM to your internal SD. Boot to Recovery, Install it, then wipe everything.
You can also use the recovery to install the ROM from USB Storage.
