Hello Captivate..... Good Bye Hero

Just switched to AT&T from Sprint (cause my wife has been bugging the hell out of me for an iPhone 4)
I had originally got an iPhone 4 with her so to see what all of the hype was about....... after feeling constrained for about 2 weeks I had to go back to my first love....."Android"
Needless to say that the Captivate is great phone!! Loving the speed, screen size and crispness!!
Now..... on to rooting it...... LOL.
Just thought I would let you guys know that.

Wow.... that is fast.
It's actually kind of funny cause I didn't notice any type of lag coming from my Sprint Hero....

did you hang out at the XDA CDMA Hero Portal? I got razzed big time when I announced I was leaving for AT&T

I owed my wife a new phone so I just went along with the move....... I do love the faster internet speed with AT&T, but I miss the cheaper bill.

Me too and talk about a smack in the face. OLD School SERO plan holders can now upgrade to a plan that allows the 4G phones for 50 bucks a month.

Hit these forums as soon as I got it. Then Ran SRE. It just works. I currently don't have the lagfix on the phone because I'm a little scared of ext4 on solid state memory. I'm looking for data that shows just how many writes our memory can take before it craps out.

this is my new home....for now.

I changed from apple also. I really like Android a load better!

TOUCHE, good move!!

I would never go back

i bought a perfect condition 3GS from a guy that bought the iPhone 4 the day it came out for 150 bucks and couldnt pass up that deal. Was using the Epix before that. The iPhone was a nice upgrade but I have never been an Apple fanboy. So it's newness wore off and I been wanting to go Android for a while but we all know ATT Android selection sucks. I was holding out because i thought they may have something i want by this time. I do want the Infuse, but i see that isnt going to be out till maybe May or June, so when this opportunity came up, i jumped on it. I already got my feet wet by playing with mods on my gf's HTC Hero, so once i get it, I am ready to rock n roll.
on another thought, i have been looking at the Serendipity and Cognition ROM, anybody who has tried them both? any thoughts on which one you like more and why? any input is greatly appreciated.

i went from an iphone 2g to the captivate. the hardware jump is unbelievable, but at least my iphone worked liked apple said it would :/.

haven't tried serendipity. Cog is a great rom... but i keep going back to andromeda... by far the best rom out there right now imo.
phoenix is fantastic too.

I guess I'm samsung's ***** for 1.5 more years. Better than being apple's.

I have only flashed a rom twice now, and it was Cognition both times, (2.3B6 first time and most recently 3.04) I can tell you that Cog 3.04 is amazing! Its based on the Official Froyo release from Rogers (canadian carrier) but has been "americanized" and it's quite fast and very smooth. In case you haven't seen these, I followed the 3 part video tutorials for flashing your rom, from user "connexion2005". He is very detailed and really takes the time to walk you through the process. I am running Paragon and it runs great. I tried Cognition, but had to change the font back to stock and didn't like that it was missing Bluetooth voice dialing.

Last week I traded an iPhone 4 for a captivate. I got way tired of playing the little games trying to keep the jailbreak everytime a new update came out. I just did the phoenix ROM and it is pretty good.

Cognition is good if u want to stick with what samsung gave us to use.....all the garbage is remove for performance reasons....I've been using serendipity since it started and its my favorite.....its the closest thing to a stock android rom..... I like the color scheme and the fact that there's hardly any traces of touchwhiz. I alway put together my own custom parts though which is what's great about android...Im using hardcores kernel and the jk3 modem.....changed the battery icon ect....

Thats so long though; I got the captivate last july(?) And i can upgrade right noW. The Atrix and dock are very tempting but theyre going ti announce some good stuff at MWC. I just hope to god they take a note from Apple and have the phones ready to ship within a month or so.

Yea, I would say think "video card". Those suckers are pumped out so fast, that is the only item in my pc that I am hesitant to buy.

If you know that AT&T is going to release better products down the road (and you do, if you're thinking about waiting 6 or so months) then you have to decide whether or not its worth it to get an HSPA+ phone or wait for the inevitable LTE devices to rear their heads. Personally, I'm thinking of getting an Inspire 4G retail when they're launched as a birthday present to me from me, and then possibly using my upgrade later on when an LTE device shows up. It's all a matter of whether it's worth the wait to you.

i used my update on my craptivate with my 2.1dumpdate1. if it wasnt for you devs then i would be pissing on samsungs doorstep right now. i think ill either get the atrix or a nexus s since dev phones are about the only thing guarunteed to get the latest stuff. paying full price anyway. id like to see motorola drop a high powered device like the atrix but wrap it up all tanky like the defy.

Exactly. See, I already have the Captivate now which, although won't be the best thing on the market soon, is still a damn good phone and @ 1.28ghz it keeps up just nicely with the best if them.
I have an upgrade and the question now is; what do I get? Since the Atrix was a flop (pricing and required tethering) im definitely waiting for MWC to see whats coming; the new Samsung phone should be great.

The dInc also got Gingerbread 2 weeks ago, then the OTA was stopped due to some serious issues with it. Those dInc guys crack me up. It's just something about the whining about not getting Sense 3.0 with it and their insane belief that the dInc is best device ever constructed. I swear, if I read one more post where the writer says something like "Sadly, I got a dInc2 from Asurion as a warranty replacement instead of another AMOLED dInc" (like they got totally screwed in the deal!), I'm gonna find them and shove that phone up their piss hole.

I actually miss my dinc a lot. It's a great little phone. Great specs. Great dev support. Only thing keeping me from going back is 4G.

the Dinc is a nice phone but too small for me. the tbolt reminds me of my old evo4g, that's why i bought it. i think my next phone will be the htc vigor.

What killed the Dinc was that it didn't have enough memory to run sense. I have a Dinc & a TBolt and I have 270 mb free most of the time with the TBolt and only 70 -100 mb free on the Dinc. The Dinc has a stripped down sense rom and the TBolt rom has most everything.

While we're on random discussions not about the Thunderbolt, the Moto Bionic comes out thursday. It looks kind of ugly shell wise and comes with moto blur :/. Nothing about whether it's locked down, but it probably is, since it was long in the works before google bought moto.

Best phone every tell that to me who went through 6 Inc all for reasons that had nothing to do with Rooting or dropping the phone. The phone over heated on a few of them and fried the board. Some phone would reboot and wipe my phone clean for no reason. I did get to keep the last phone which my daughter has as a video game phone so she would keep her hands off my TB, and surprising it been a great game system/netflix for her anyways. But I would have loved to get upgraded to the new phone as a replacement it only happened to me one time but I was like HELL YEA, and that was back when it was a flip phone but I got a 3.2 MP camera.

The incredible was a good phone but the Tbolt definately has advantages over it. I wouldn't trade my Tbolt back for the Incredible but it definately was a good phone.

The radio from the 2.11 leak is freakin great. I know with the TB it seems different phones respond to different radios but I have seen more positive posts about the one from the 2.11 leak then any other radio. I got 15 hours of heavy heavy usage the other day after flashing a new ROM and that radio before I even changed all my settings to help optimize battery life. Plus my 4G hasn't cut out on me at all like it did sometimes before.

Well, it's been fun MT4G

After multiple exchanges, T-Mobile has offered to swap me out for a new device. They offered me the MT4G Slide or the Sensation. The sensation has a lot more ROM options, so I went with that.
I'm actually kind of sad, I loved this phone! But alas, the run as come to an end!

Man, and ics just went crazy here. Oh well. Drop by once in awhile. Enjoy your new toy.

I'm running IceColdSandwhich on this until my sensation gets here. I love it! ICS seems to be blowing up over there too! I'll always love this phone though!

...the t-mobile reps at your place must be very nice people!

What makes you say that?
The last time I called CS, they said one more issue and they'd swap me out. I traveled (drove) to Vegas last week for spring break, and couldn't use navigation and charge my phone at the same time. It flat out wouldn't charge while navigation was in use. Called them up tonight, they said they'd swap me out.

im getting the sensation XE soon.. the only thing ill miss is the physical buttons.. everythings all touch now and i hate it

When did you get the phone? My 1 year warranty has already expired, so I'm SOL if there's anything wrong with my phone.

Ima trade my htc mytouch 4g for a htc sensation 4g brand new n white today. I love the mytouch I just like bigger phones lol.just wanted to say thanks for the ics roms and had fun with the mytouch. later mytouch 4g!!
