For just $10-$15 delivered (depending on seller) it's the best looking "slimmish" case I've ever tried. Perfect fit and beautiful looks.
Hard shell with see-through sides that look almost chrome like from some angles. Which gives the phone an iphone like appearance (chrome bezel on iphone).
Was going to give this case an A+++ rating until I discovered it degrades my data signal by anywhere from 50% in low signal areas to 10% in good signal areas.
GPS didn't have any noticeable issues, though I didn't check signal strength.
So just a warning. Very, very nice looking/fitting slim case.
But it does degrade my download speeds.
Here are a couple links. Both have different descriptions but are the same case & color.

That's one purty case. Sucks about the reception issue...doh!
Actually it might only be the blue one that decreases performance.
I'll test more later.

I have the blue one and I don't notice any decrease in data or gps signal. I don't use this case anymore because it's a pain to take it off the phone so I switched back to my SGP ultra capsule.

thanks for the input which one is thinner? this case or the SGP?
This one is thinner and made of hard plastic. The SGP is also thin and made of polyurethane. Go with SGP it's a little expensive but the quality is top of the line. I have few friends who have the Skyrocket and they all bought the SGP ultra capsule after seeing mine. They all said it felt better holding it compared to other cases.
It won;t protect from water damage, like rain, humidity, taking it to a washroom
This case is beautiful. It's hard plastic with an aluminum-ish textured back. I happened to grab the Black one for less than 8 bucks shipped on Amazon. It's a low profile case, reminds me of the Incipio Feathered cases.
Now the bad news...It really does degrade signal quality. Before this case, my signal was -86 dbm and after the case it's -101 dbm. This is on UMTS/HSPA, don't have LTE in my area.
I also tried some speed tests. Without a case on average 3mbs down, 1.2 mbs up. With this case on, I got 1.2 mbs down, .65 mbs up on average.
Like the OP stated, I didn't think it really affected GPS, but my tests were not as extensive.
So a great looking case, with a crappy downside.
Back to the Diztronic for me...sigh.
Hard to tell from the ebay description exactly what this thing is made of.
- Anodized Brushed Aluminum Hard Shell Protective Snap-On Case Cover
- Made with Shatter Proof ABS Plastic
One line says aluminum the next one says ABS plastic. I would expect any metal case to degrade reception.
Does look good though.
I decided to test and pry off the metal-ish back. Its only glued on the plastic. Did some more testing and saw that reception is back to normal without that layer. Of course the case is ugly without that layer. There's a lot of glue so you would have sand it to get all the glue off and it'll scratch up the see through plastic.
Like I said ... back to the diztronic.

I did confirm both blue and black degrade signal. Blue is worse... The black one also got scratched to heck somehow.

If you're asking about a case that makes it so that the camera and phone are the "same" thickness (so that it lays flat instead of an angle) there are plenty of cases that do that. Notably, the Case Mate Tough and Speck Candyshell ( I own both).
If you're asking for like a plastic cover over it, you fail for wanting to cripple the amazing camera (for a phone).

Agreed, the Commuter case is great. I've only had mine since around Mother's Day but it definitely is sharp and sturdy without being bulky. (Apparently not all Otter Commuters are this good; bought one for my mom's Captivate at the same time, and the design feels flimsier. But the one for the Inspire rocks.)
Definitely feel better about sliding my phone in and out of my pocket now; no longer catches on the edge of my pocket when I do it fast, etc.
Started with a Body Glove case, not as bulky as Speck Candy shell, but the cut-out was a rectangle for all three rear-facing components (flash, lens & speaker). Lens would still stick out a couple milimeters.
Speck Candy is a big improvement, back is flush with the lens, I have no hesitation putting phone done on a table. Cutout around lens is tight, flash is wide enough for the small hole next to it (rear microphone for videos?), and the speaker opening is just right. Didn't take long to get used to the thickness of the case.
+2 On Speck Candyshell. (white one is super nice)...

I've got the white speck candyshell also, my previous case was the casemate tough and it was great but I wanted a little more bling with the colors. Both cases protect the camera very well a whole lot better than the body glove case. The one gripe I do have with the speck case is the freaking home button is a pain to press.

I use the big bulky Seidio case. The triple case in one thing, and I love it. Yeah, a littele big, but it fully protects everything on my phone including the camera, no built-in screen protector to screw with the one I had installed, and its nice to be able to clip it to my hip on the go.
Bit big, not too cheap, but I work in an area that has a high-risk to have my phone dropped, banged into things, or even punted across the room by mistake. XD
Otterbox all the way. I have both the Commuter and Defender.
The Defender case is a thick and bulky case but it was a screen that protects the camera lens and screen "i removed the screen protector to use a zagg invisible shield". My Inpsire got ran over by a car 2 weeks ago while in the defender case and there is not a blemish on it. It turns the phone into a mini tank. I use this case when i go to the gym or out anywhere that i might really hurt the phone.
The Commuter case is very light weight and thin compared to the defender but still very strong. It makes the back of the phone nice a level, right around the camera it pops out a lil to keep it from rubbing when it is laying down. This is my everyday case.
IMO, you can not go wrong with either of these cases and the both go for 30- 40 dollars on amazon. If you want a light weight case go for the Commuter if you want something that will really protect the phone from anything "like getting run over by a car" get the Defender series. Remember the Desire HD is the same phone sure use it when you are searching. I hope this helps you pick a case.

have to agree with the otterbox commuter... protects the camera fairly well... raises the back of the phone up to camera level so your lense wont touch anything
Spec case. It's awsome

Going to agree on the Speck cases. GF has the purple one and my only real gripe is that the plastic lip between the bottom of the screen and charging/audio ports feel like they it won't stand up to normal wear and tear or very long.
Case-mate barely there does the trick.
+1 for the cas-mate barely there! I own all 4 colours! I've got the amzer, the ringke and some TPU one from worst-buy and I always go back to the the case-mate.

I think GPS lock has more to do with radio/rom combo. I'm running MIUI 1.5.27 and I get a lock in seconds. I've had no GPS issues whatsoever with these cases.
the white is my fave =)
There are probably threads out there like this one that compare the two cases.
However, as I have now cracked the casing on my second Otterbox Commuter I decided to try something different.
Enter the Case Mate "Tough".
Apprently this is the revised version according to Amazon (UK) where I got it from, I cant say what the differences are between this and the earlier model as I havent had one so its possible that depending on which revision you get, some of you might get different results to me.
I'll be comparing this to my Otterbox Commuter, the reason I used one of the Otterbox units is I have one for my Xoom, I had one for my HD2 and in general I like the look and protection that they offer. However as I have now cracked the plastic in the same two places on two different units its safe to say that they dont fit my needs.
*
To be fair theres not a huge amount of difference from the front, the Otterbox appears to have slightly more coverage on the front of the phone as its rubber is more closely molded to the speaker area.
The Otterbox also lets the power and volume rockers protrude from the hard shell, this at least for the volume isnt an issue, however where the power button is the hard shell is only a few mm wide at the top front edge, this is where I have managed to crack both of the Otterboxes I have had, I've also noticed when my other half has the phone she struggles to turn the phone on/off.
At the bottom where the USB and audio sockets are the Otterboxes hard shell goes around this area and has a rubber flap that pops in and out of place to with show or hide the ports, on the Case Mate no such flap exists so if you work in dust environments then that could be a minus for the Case Mate.
Hard shells, after breaking two, I'd say the Otterbox either needs a redesign or material change, the Case Mate's hard shell doesnt cover as much as the Otterbox one but in not covering as much of the phone it doesnt have the same weaknesses as the Otterbox.
As it stands now the Otterbox seems to offer a touch more protection at the expense of life expectancy, both of the unit's I've had have lasted 6/8 months.
The Case Mate seems more rugged due to its hard shell being matte and textured vs the Otterboxes smooth shinier finish.
At this point neither case stands out as a clear favorite, however having broken two of the Otterboxes the Case Mate certainly seems hardier out of the box.
Will report back in a while after I've used the Case Mate a bit more.
Incipio/Trident ftw.

I've been using the Case Mate Tough for over a year now, dropping it occasionally still looks brand new. The phone is held in really well and the corners are strong (ie, unbroken, look new still).
Re GPS coverage, I used GPS Test to see how many satellites the phone could see with and without the case - from the attic of my house. There is a small window above me, the rest being roof. I saw that the phone would pick up 8-9 with the Case Mate instead of 10-12.
In practice, this is no problem whatsoever. I drop the phone, with the case on, in a backpack and go mountain-biking. The app I use, tracks automatically as soon as there is a signal. If I look at the tracks, it picks up a signal within the first 10-20 seconds.
So in short, protects very well, has more than acceptable coverage and gets a quick fix
Well after a few weeks the Case Mate is still my favorite over the two..

Managed to drop my phone today from about 5ft high directly onto solid concrete driveway and the phone kinda did a weird slide/roll, under my van.

I like my Speck Candy Shell case. Dark Grey in color. Rubber inside, hard outside, protects edges, all one piece.
I had a case-mate and loved it, though I gave it to my daughter when she got an Inspire, I have a Seidio active case now. I love this case, the buttons are a lot easier to use (power and volume), and have dropped it a couple of times and the case protected it well.
The otterbox is definitely a weak non-durable case. It may protect the phone but in the end it will mostly likely break if you drop your phone a lot. A lot of customers at my job have otterboxes for their iPhones and they are always chipped or cracked. It's a shame
I have my s4 since november and already dropped it three times. Once on a wooden floor and two times on concrete. The phone survived (even the screen) but it got some bruises. The top left and bottom right "corner" of the phone are a bit malformed from the two falls on the concrete. Every time it fell out of my pocket, so it's not a matter of hand grip.
So I decided it's time for some protection.
I have a silicone case. It's one of those book thingies. But it was cheap, it's thin and I'm not really fond of it. Mostly because I have a hard time reaching the buttons.
Yesterday I got a hard plastic case. But the problem with this one is that it only offers protection at the back and the sides of the phone (left and right), the top and bottom are unprotected. And there is the button problem too.
My concern is that when the phone falls down, the most impact is taken up by the margins (I don't remember the technical term). It rarely happens that the phone falls flat on the screen (generally speaking). It mostly falls and hits with the margin first. And that's mostly where the screen starts to break too.
And I don't really want to go overkill with one of those bomb resistant cases  I don't want the phone to become more bulky (what's the point of a sleek design if it's ruined by a huge case)
I don't use GPS. I heard some metal cases mess with signal reception.
Considering the above, I thought I should go for a metallic bumper, or maybe silicone bumper.
I'm asking for some other user experiences here. What others have found to offer good protection and stuff. And I'm not asking for a product. I'm just asking what type of product (Case or bumper, and whatever other options there are)
I was using S-line silicone cover for my i9070 (SGS Adv) and it was nice all rounder.
Dropped phone form desk on concrete, fell off my pocket on the street ... it was all fine.
It wasn't really much thicker than phone on its own and buttons were easily accessed. I have not tried this type on S4 but I imagine there is one.
Currently in i9505 I have more bulkier case - case mate hybrid tough (2 layers: rubber "inside" similar to every silicone case there is, and plastic outside - looks like what you described as your sides/back only case, with some plastic on the corners) - buttons / screen are a bit "deeper" in the case (thicker ruber overlay on sides than it was on S-line in i9070) but damn it feels like it can survive throw at the wall and bouncing off the ground.

Amer shellster
I've been using an Amzer Shellster for my S4 and really happy with it. Cost me £12.89 including delivery. Bumper case adds minimal bulk yet provides goof protection against falls. Really like the hip holster for use running or biking.
Can Anyone recommend me a slim fit cover that fits nicely on the s4, not too expensive but not too cheap. Thanks
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
CaseMate Tough case. Cost me about $20 at Walmart, though it's probably a lot less on Amazon. It fits perfectly, even with a glass screen protector installed on the touchscreen. It also has a textured back which provides the "grippy" feeling that the S4 polycarbonate lacks.
I'm currently using an original Protective cover+, and though it wasn't that cheap I definitely can recommend it. Fits perfectly (of course), no problems with connecting my S4 with a docking station. Since I've got the cover I've "thrown" away my S4 four times. The first "test" was when it fell on the street while pulling it out of my backpack. Second time I used it as a torch and it fell 2 meters down on wooden ground. The other two times it fell on carpet. Nothing happened at all to my good old phone, not even a scratch on the back. Also no problems at all with using the hardware keys or headphone jack.
Otterbox commuter would get the job done. But it makes ur s4 a little bulky. Have to sacrifice that for good protection though.
I have the Spigen Neo case. It's not bulky at all but provides good protection. The case itself have buttons over the phone's buttons. I have a glass screen protector also and the 2 together is nice.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BYJXGP2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I went for a basic cheap case from dx.com, SKU: 200649. But it does cover all sides, the back, as well as some of the front, due to the overhang from the sides extending out the front. I got a few other cases with different materials at the same time, but this is the one I ended up liking the most.
Thank you all for the replies.
I decided to get a metallic bumper. It does seem to mess with signal strength a bit, though.
But I guess it offers much more protection than rubber/silicone or plastic. It also held together tightly with a pin (You don't just slip the phone in. The bumper can pe opened at one corner, you put the phone in, then close the bumper using the pin). So it won't fly off on impact.
I think this combined with a glass screen protector will ensure optimal protection.
I am using a body glove 3 piece. It has a screen protector and a silicon/rubber outer cover. It was $25 dollars. It hasn't effected my signal and has survived a few falls. I know they sell them at Wal-Mart and Target.
I keep seeing people posting "bumper" cases, but it seems that they don't understand what a bumper Case is our the company they bought from doesn't.... rusher way I'm looking for an actual aluminum bumper for my s6. The only other place i can think of is casefanatic.com,
bumpers category: http://www.casefanatic.com/samsung/galaxy-s6/bumper-galaxy-s6/
but they ship most of em from china so unless you choose fast shipping then it'll take a couple weeks to get to you. But they have a large selection of cases for the s6 including about 3-5 bumper cases.
I have a Verus Aluminum bumper. Spigen has an identical one, but with black rubber instead of clear. And there are plenty more out there.
I am, however, now looking for an all plastic/rubber case that isn't ugly as the aluminum completely kills signal. I lose about 40 dBm of signal (full 5 bars to 1bar/no signal) as soon as I put the aluminum bumper on.
My phone with Verus aluminum bumper:
Edit: Sorry, I missed your "P.S.", I read the top part and thought the rest was part of your sig. That said, anything "smaller/thinner" than something like the Verus won't protect the camera on the back. I'd personally rather have another mm of thickness and not be laying the phone down on the camera.
Any aluminum bumper will degrade signal and wifi,it happens on the spigens, obliqs, or just about any metal band. I had the spigen and noticed it.

Yeah I like the Verus and it's a great case. It's just so think... I love how they damn near perfectly mimicked the edges of the s6. I haven't had any issues with signal degradation though. Kind of odd that you are, the silicon buffer is supposed to make it so that doesn't happen. Very odd indeed.

I would've as well but it's not aluminium which for me personally is a must. Also I fear an aluminium version would suffer from the same size issue as the Verus.
If you both would post pics when you get them I'd like to compare it to the Verus for size. Obviously a picture isn't the best way to do it, but it's better than nothing.

i hate to admit it but you are absolutely right. I just got this bumber and love how sleek it is, i prefer it over my neo hydrid ex. But after seeing your comment and testing it out there's a huge difference in signal strength. With the metal bumber i get -113/114 dBm with 26 asu compared to the neo hybrid with -105dBm with 34 asu. i always thought it was just those cases with the metal backing that effected signal but just the bumper is enough to make a significant difference.

I had a really hard time putting it on the first time, and then trying to take it off the first time, I thought it was now a permanent fixture. I was really afraid I was going to break the phone from the pressure. Once I finally got it off, I couldn't get the Iron Shield case on. (The bumper is printed "Iron Shield", but it's actually "Iron Bumper" - they just use the same bumper piece for both.) I've now taken each off a couple times, and the rubber is getting more flexible now.
But yes, it will come off with some SERIOUS effort - just be careful. I have no helpful tips other than "keep trying".
I have both the verus aluminum and the spider plastic bumpers. I like the spigen one, but honestly I didn't feel like it was very protective. It just felt flimsy. The verus felt better in the had, but made the phone too wide, and also the headphones jack was super slim. I ended up taking a drill and widening it so my headphones will fit.

The first time I tried to take it off, it very much felt like the phone was going to break well before the case came off.
For those having issues, what finally became a good method for me was to use a thicker (terry cloth type) microfiber cloth to get a decent grip on the top/right corner, from the front pushing the corner off to the back, and just slowly, with steady/firm pressure, push the case back. Trying to quickly force it off did nothing, but a slow firm pressure did it. Then once that slid off, repeat at the top left corner, with will come more easily.
Another issue for me with the aluminum bumpers is that I dont want it to come free of the rubber and then scratch the glass (unlikely) or the phone's aluminum edge (far more likely).
I picked up a "Xuenair" branded silver aluminium bumper from eBay. It looks great, the buttons feel good, and the cutouts are perfect. Unfortunately though, it kills my GPS. Interesting enough, the cellular signal only degrades by 2-4 dbm at home.
I do use GPS quite often though.. so eBay refund process I go.

Does that bumper have anything to keep the camera off of a table surface when setting it down? (I assume you got the thin bare metal one that latches on.)

I do indeed have the thin metal one with a latch on the bottom right corner. To answer your question though, no, my camera unfortunately still remains in contact with the surface when it's laying down. I'm not too concerned about it since I have a tiny PET film lens protector, but it definitely could scratch the paint still.
Got it ! Very Elegant !
Hi everyone,
Have anyone here tested metal cases? Are they good at shock absorbing? What about the design? Are they scratched easily? What's your idea?
What about the ones who have it, do you recommend such cases?

No, it makes it even heavier so even more chance to broke it...the best imo is TPU clear extra slim case... + Nillkin H+ Pro glass
Dude I want it to be beautiful beside shock absorbent. I have the official TPU case and it fits well, but the transparency has faded away(it's turning into a browny yellow color). It captures heat so the device gets warm. and last but not least, it's no good at shock absorbing

Well buy a couple of them if they are getting faded...they are like 1$ a piece. And I use this clear case and it doesnt capture heat... I mean my device is not heating any more then without it. Whats your temperature? I get max 32celsius with normal usage.
Plus you must know, our device is 165g + Nillkin glass cca. 10g + clear case cca 10-15g..its alreafy arond 200g, now imagine putting metal case on it.
Why put a metal case when the device itself is aluminum back

I don't want to ruin the body cause I can hardly replace it here.
Metal cases are a bad idea... they interfere with the device radios. I learned this the hard way when I replaced the back of my Blackberry with a metal cover back in the day. I noticed that my reception was worse and my GPS no longer worked. Took me way too long to realize that it was because of the metal back cover.
Oh, and it happened to me again with Samsung Note 4, bought Spigen TPU case with a metal border and I noticed reduced signal strength.

Thank you for sharing you exps with others sir
i'm using aluminum case with my kate without signal problems. Yes it feels little fat but i think it can protect better..
When I used one I couldn't keep an LTE signal to save my life. Took it off and used a TPU case and haven't had any signal issues since.
