Samsung offers Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for GALAXY S II
We're thrilled to announce that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be served to GALAXY S II users in the European countries including Poland, Hungary and Sweden, as well as Korea today, and gradually roll out to other markets.
ICS for GALAXY Note, GALAXY S II LTE, GALAXY Tab 8.9 and 10.1 will follow soon.
In addition, we'll also offer Android 2.3 Gingerbread firmware upgrades for GALAXY S, GALAXY Tab 7", GALAXY S Plus, GALAXY S SCL (Super Clear LCD) and GALAXY W from end March. The firmware upgrades for GALAXY S, for example, include Face Unlock, Snapshot, Photo Editor, and others.
The availability and scheduling of the software update and specific models upgradeable to Android 4.0 will vary by market and wireless carriers' requirements.

Is it necessary for Samsung in order to do that to upgrade drivers? Would it be possible to port those features to our Ics port? I know that i'm dreaming awake, but is nice to dream sometimes!

Exactly what I was wondering. The only thing holding me back from the SGS2 was the thought of not having the Tegra. And what are the possibilities of a CM7 or AOSP ROM?
Thanks for all the replies so far.

AOSP ROMS are very fast and works well but are soo simple.
for example i don´t like AOSP because i´m HTC SENSE LOVER..
in adition SGS 2 is going to run ANDROID OPEN SOURCE PROJECTS without problems
cyanogenmod7 is a current rom and has (under my experience the better performance.. available in SGS)in a few time when SGS2 outs... it´s going to be available CM7.X.X for this super-machine

Jelly Bean ?

I'm really sick and tired of waiting for JB update for this device. Only reason I bought it is because we were promised JB update.... anyone knows when the update will be ?

Same info from Poland.
Samsung answered to my phone there are no plans for upgrading I8160 and I9070 to ICS Or Jelly Bean. Gingerbread is the mainstream Android for them. All internet info regarding update are rumors.
They even said that they know about ICS info on marketing videos of I8160. All new mainstream phones will be released with JB said consultant. I asked which ones and he said I8190.
Damn you Samsung!
Android Jelly Bean awaited for Samsung Galaxy S2, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Ace 2 etc (18/12/2012)
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update is coming to more devices. Samsung’s high-end smart phones including the S III have recently received the update. In many markets, S III is under the update process. What about the Korean tech maker’s budget and old Android phones? Yes, lots of handsets are in the waiting list for the firmware update in near future.
Samsung offers to push out Jelly Bean to those devices by early 2013 now. Let us check out the Samsung handsets that wait for Jelly Bean update. We bring to you fresh updates and news about the software update of the devices. Key features and qualities of each device also come under scan.
Samsung Galaxy S II: As you may see, it is the second model of Samsung’s Galaxy S series. The 2011 version of the phone hit markets with Android 2.3 Gingerbread out of the box. Later, it was upgraded to ICS. Well, it is now one of the top devices in the waiting list for Jelly Bean. As per rumors, the S II is to get software update in January next year. Sources say that Samsung has confirmed this. Meanwhile, there is a rumor that Samsung is working on a Plus variant of S II with Jelly Bean.
Samsung Galaxy Note: The new Note II is creating waves in stores. And a 2013 upgrade – the Galaxy Note III – has already hit rumor mills. But, the Note original is yet to get the latest firmware. The first Note handset has a 5.3-inch display and it runs on Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread. As per recent reports, the Note is also to get the new Android 4.1 in January 2013. It will have a new look and feel when it gets updated with the firmware.
Samsung Galaxy Ace 2: Samsung launched the second generation Ace 2 in February 2012. The new phone has an advanced 800MHz NovaThor U8500 processor and 3.8-inch PLS TFT display. It runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Samsung offered to push out Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to this device early next year, reports say.
Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus: The Korean tech maker used to produce ‘plus’ versions for its hit products. The Ace of 2011 January has also received a Plus version apart from the second upgrade. The Galaxy Ace Plus mounts an advanced 1GHz Qualcomm MSM7227A Snapdragon processor, 512MB of RAM and 3GB of internal storage. It has an Adreno 200 GPU and a 5MP rear camera. It also runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Jelly Bean is expected to add a completely new experience for Galaxy Ace Plus.
Samsung Galaxy S Advance: Needless to say, S Advance is one of highly successful budget Android phones from Samsung. The 4-inch handset was released in April 2012 with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Owners of S Advance have been long waiting for Jelly Bean update. Samsung earlier offered to push out Jelly Bean to the handset leapfrogging the ICS. Anyway, it is yet to get the firmware update. It seems that it will now come to the phone early next year.
Conclusion
Apart from these fives handsets, we have too many other models from Samsung to get the software update. They include popular products such as Galaxy Music, Galaxy S II LTE, Galaxy Chat, Galaxy Beam, Galaxy Mini 2, Galaxy S Duos and more. It is actually much late for Samsung to roll out Jelly Bean to this line of products.
It has always been criticized that Android product makers are sluggish in upgrading their devices with the new firmware. Now it looks that we can get the update sooner to these handsets. Most rumors suggest that the update will land in the devices by early next year. Let us wait and see when the Jelly Bean will come to more handsets.

Its just an article, but i am sure that Samsung will update Ace 2 and S Advance to JB. They will upgrade the OS of any phone at least once... The phone was sold with GB (XXLD8 April 2012) and until now there was a "major" maintenance GB update (XXLK6 November 2012), and i think that the company wont focus on updating GB more than that. So Samsung will start (or already has started) making Jelly Bean. That's my opinion. I believe that SGA2 will be upgraded to JB within Q1 of 2013 (January - March).

Samsung Galaxy Ace 2, Galaxy S2, Galaxy Note Android Jelly Bean update soon (21/12/12)
This is a wait that seems to end never. And worried are people who have been awaiting its arrival for the last many months. So far their wait has gone in vain as so far there is no trace of not just the latest Android 4.2, but also its previous Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. This is a depressing thought for millions and millions of Android fans who bought very expensive gadgets –best at the time of their launch –are feeling left out.
The two most important handsets awaiting the introduction of Android Jelly bean 4.1 are the smart-phones that are still very competitive in the market, but look a bit old merely due to non-availability of latest Android firmware. In my view Samsung believes that if thee handsets are given latest Android updates, no one is going to buy their very expensive new handsets that shine more due to latest updates.
By the way when talking of specifications improvement there is not much different between a Galaxy Note original and Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S2. The difference is more in size than in substance and a bit here and there improvements.
Android Jelly Bean comes with many major features. This includes Project Butter. Project Butter is a special program from Google to increase the performance of Jelly Bean. The project is named so because it can ensure that your Android handsets perform much faster and smoothly like butter, says Google. As per CNET, the new Android version utilizes VSync and Triple Buffering to increase the touch responsiveness. Engadget says that Project Butter can hum the entire system at 60 frames per seconds (fps). Well, the feature will run Jelly Bean devices smoother and faster than its predecessor. Google showcased the difference between JB and ICS through a demo at the event.
Another great feature is smarter keypad. You will get a smarter keyboard with the Jelly Bean devices, Google claims. The innovative keyboard feature is able to predict your next word before you start typing. TechCrunch notes that the company has implemented the voice transcription software inside the handset, not the network connection. That is, unlike Apple’s Siri, the smart voice transcription feature of Jelly Bean devices can guide even if internet connection is not available. Google Now is Google’s reply to Apple’s Siri voice assistant application. Similar to Siri, Google Now will respond to users’ queries in human voice. Amazingly, Google Now will guide you to pick the best restaurant, set reminder for meeting and other appointments and many other exciting features. Moreover, like Siri, Google Now will guide you through the exact path to drive in or walk on in a city.
One more important feature is Android Beam. Google has added a new Android Beam feature to Jelly Bean. The feature works utilizing the software’s compatibility to (NFC) Near Field Communication. Microsoft has brought the NFC-based communication feature on its Windows Phone 8. With Android Beam, you can hold NFC capable handsets to share digital content like photos, video and others quickly. Android 4.1 takes phone notifications to an all new level. Android’s slide down notification bar has always been notable. And with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, we are to have a completely new experience with the notifications feature. TechCrunch says that users will be able to make calls and send texts right from the notification widget. You can also access all new Gmail messages from the notification tab. That is, the process to respond to missed calls and emails is quite simple on a handset with the Jelly Bean. Social networking sites like Foursquare and Google Plus publish the notifications, thus you can respond to them from these sites.
Several reports suggest that Galaxy Ace 2, Galaxy S II and Galaxy Note owners are setto receive the new Jelly Bean 4.1.2 update in January 2013. Leaks have clearly revealed Samsung’s plan to push out the fresh version of Android to the handsets. Users of these two former market hit phones have been long waiting for Jelly Bean update. Now it is time for the phones to get the fresh software. As exposed by the leaked test ROM earlier, both Galaxy S II and Galaxy Note will leapfrog the original Jelly Bean 4.1.1 and will get the new Jelly Bean 4.1.2. Of course, the update will bring many great features to the handsets. The very important feature is Project Butter, which will boost processor performance of the devices. Better voice features thanks to S Voice, S Beam for NFC-based data transfers and a lot of other features will come to the devices.
The Galaxy S II and Galaxy Note owners in various countries look for the firmware update in different occasions. The Canadian cellular service provider Rogers has confirmed the arrival of the update to the S II LTE and Note LTE by early January. The carrier offers to send the firmware update to the handsets then. Meanwhile, users in Poland and Germany expect the rollout of Jelly Bean to the handsets before Christmas. It is the second upgrade to Samsung’s famous Galaxy S series of Android phones. The device hit markets mid 2011 and it fought off Apple iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S all over the year. Even after the release of a far stronger successor the Galaxy S III, the former one has great significance in stores. People are still crazy about the phone and many carriers and retailers sell the handset with various offers and deals.
As of now, there is a rumor that Samsung is working on an advanced Plus variant for Galaxy S II. Sources have leaked pics and specs of the device. The phone is set to come with a 4.3-inch WVGA display screen, 8MP rear camera with autofocus, 2MP front snapper for video chatting and more. A dual core 1GHz processor will power up the handset, which will run on the new Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update.
Though it has got its next edition in the market, nonetheless Galaxy Note is still being sold like hot-cake. It is the original version of Samsung’s world-famous phablet the Note. It is there with a 5.3-inch Super AMOLED screen that has a nice resolution of 800 x 1280 pixels at 285-ppi. The innards of the old Note phablet include a 1.4GHz dual core Exynos ARM Cortex-A9 processor, 1GB of RAM and a Mali-400MP graphical processor. The device comes up in two memory versions; 16GB and 32GB. In addition, it has a 32GB microSD slot for expanding memory further thanks to external sticks.

All is cheap for Samsung.
No matter which manufacturer we'll choose as long as we'll buy cheap devices we'll not find any fw upgrades - that's the truth. Sony supports devices only for a year, when you're buying LG you're aware that it will definately not get any upgrade. Only Nexus has guarantee of ugprades because it is Google.
I heard that Google is forcing now manufacturers to upgrade ALL devices no matter if it's low/med/hi-end but when will it force it? nobody knows....
For now(I think) we should try to build working kernel with additional governors etc. so we have base to start modding. KitKat requires 3.x kernel, we have one so there is still hope that at some point of time someone will build working CM/AOKP/AOSP/Paranoid KitKat ROM.
CM is coming soon maybe a week or month
Looks like we can't count on Samsung, nothing suprising about that :/ I'm starting to miss my old Sony Neo V, huge dev base, I could replace rom every week/month with a new one, good times. My lesson for the future - at first search xda forum, then buy device... Core is just DEAD.

Android 5 for Samsung S5 mini

Hi,
I'm looking to update my Samsung S5 mini to a custom ROM or an official one with at least Android 5, but coudn't find information about it.
Now I have heard about an update 5.1.1. from Vodafone and have a question. If my Samsung S5 mini device (Germany) has the PDA number G800FXXU1AOG2 could the update from Android 4.4.2 to 5.1.1. still work with the G800FXXU1BOL4 at:
sammobile dot com firmwares/download/64164/G800FXXU1BOL4_G800FVFG1BOL1_VD2/
And what does it mean "Country=Germany (Vodafone)" ? Will it only work with Vodafone or all SIMs including prepaid, just will have a Vodafone look?
The update would be even fine with an US user interface or language. The main thing is that it should work or being revertable

BTW: not that true for their mac book pro line
I can definitely not recommend Samsung devices for this very reason. Otherwise they would be really good. I decided against a Motorola only because of the exchangeable battery to avoid throwing away the phone after 2 years (or expensive replacement), now I have to throw away the phone due to very old and insecure software. Ugly.

tizen 4.0?

Asking out of curiosity, is s3 going get a new big update too? Is tizdn 4.0 even coming?
1.
Tizen 4 is obsolete...
Joke... :cyclops:
https://www.tizen.org/blogs/tsg/2018/tizen-5.0-public-m1-source-release
Tizen 5...
Now you can download more Watch Faces...
Nobody need cool Apps or Games or working Battery...
2.
No joke...
Tizen Mobile is dead since monthS... :crying:
I mean the Z series like SM-Z130H... Z2, Z3, Z4...
3.
The new incoming Wearable... SM-R800
Nobody outside R&D Samsung knows if Tizen 4.. or they use Android...
https://www.iotgadgets.com/2018/07/samsung-gear-s4-wear-os-measure-blood-pressure/
4.
No idea what you expect from Tizen 4 for Gear S3 series...
More Bugs?
More stupid Security... against fun...
5.
Seems Gear S2 series now soon also dead...
On 3rd July, Galaxy S9 and S9+ devices are available on Remote Test Lab service. We also support devices based on Android 8.0, so you can have access to Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note8 devices updated to Android 8.0.
On the other hand, some Gear models below will no longer be supported.
- Gear 2 (SM-R380) and Gear 2 Neo (SM-R381)
- Gear S (SM-R750 / R750A / R750P)
- Gear S2 (SM-R730S)

IMHO chance is higher Tizen will die soon or sooner...
My own opinion.
Best Regards
Tizen is not leaving anytime soon. If and when the Gear S3 gets Tizen 4 is anybody's guess. The GearS4 or Galaxy Watch as it is going to be named, will not run on Wear Is Samsung cleared squashed that rumor a couple of months ago,do not believe everything that Evan Blass posts.
But "Evolution" of Tizen is only in 1 direction...
Down...
I can not remember Tizen 3 with SM-R600 is must have device...
No community avtivities...
https://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-sport
Tizen 3 update on Gear S3 series...
"""""""""""""""""""""Battery improvements"""""""""""""""""""""
Charging desaster...
Btw. I saw something like this also with other Gear devices...
And Sa.sung kil.ed Tizen Mobile... without 1 word...
And latest """surprice"""

IMHO I am not sure if Tizen 4 will be cool(er) as Tizen 3...
Btw...
SM-R815U seems the US LTE Version for ATT...
SM-R815W seems for Canada...
SM-R800 and SM-R810 seems intertnational device... without LTE/IMEI/eSIM/Modem...

I'm pretty sure Samsung would have to fire all of their ****ty Gear Tizen engineers, overhaul Tizen wear, and also fire all of their support and hire people who aren't complete idiots, and Samsung start caring about their devices outside of the selling part before I will EVER buy another Samsung watch or phone. This S3 has been the WORST experience I've ever had with any electronics ever lol... And at $350... Their support can kick rocks too. Holy. Sheet. Yeah, I'm SUPER excited to see the new Android wear watches, cause I'm absolutely getting rid of this piece and getting one as soon as they come out.
Do yourselves a favor and get something other than Samsung when you can. Seriously. This BS with botched software updates that break/brick/whatever your watch, and the horrible support will never end. Once you hand over your money for anything that says Samsung, they don't care about it or you anymore. Run
someones an angry little elf. sorry i couldn't help myself. i agree that there are a few things lacking with this watch but i just picked up a refurb one and have been loving it so far.
I hope SM-R8xx will have more eMMC and RAM...
I hope it is not again same Chip...
Like Gear S3 and SM-R600 have... Exynos 7270
Not sure if Display Resolution will be increased...
I think not... will be on 360 x 360 Pixel
If really Tizen 4...
Hopefully not k.striert again...
So maybe dotNet enabled...

I hope not all devices have this Color...

SM-R815F is the LTE device for Singapore...
Boah ey... again so many devices... branded and locked to 1 Operator/Country...
