Finally solution to Atrix 2 Wifi problems - Motorola Atrix 2

I feel so relieved today .. My A2 connection is rock solid for the last 3 hours.
I had tried everything before --- static ip , apps on phone etc to get rid of the intermittent disconnection issue. Nothing worked.
Solution - this worked in my case.
I flashed my Dlink Dir-615 router with DD-Wrt firmware.
I found a ready-to-eat guide for my particular model :
http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=550652
So check if there is a dd-wrt firmware for your router too. If not , there are other open-source firmwares too like tomato etc
Finally I set my security to WPA2- EAS .. and reserved a IP for my A2
and have set this static ip in my phone to be on a safer side.
I realized the issue could be with my router , when i had no disconnection at my friends place.
However i will still continue to face connection issues at college after the spring break. Probably android requires very strict wifi protocol adherence, and dd-wrt follows everything.
Hope this helps fellow noobs

Thx. I also have another possible solution. Most of the time it is indeed a router problem. What worked for me was turning of all my other devices using Wi-Fi such as laptop and other things and connect my phone first and then turning on the other devices. Never had a problem since.

Wi-Fi issued resolved for Ubquiti Wifi router model Power ApN
I have a Asian MB865 unrooted 2.3.6. From day one I had difficulty connecting to my home wifi router a US brand called Ubiquiti for their model Power ApN. Tried many points to resolve. The issue was phone used to show connecting then dropping the connection immediately in a non stop loop. First thing I updated to the latest firmware for the router and changed network mode to "Bridge" and issue was resolved until then a new issue was randomly again the phone would not connect to the router & then would be ok again after 2 days. Frustrated I took screen shots comparing my earlier saved config file v/s the changed setting config file and narrowed it down to the point that the wireless setting Frequency Mhz was at Auto which I changed to 2452 mhz as fixed value and from thereon wifi is connected nonstop any time I want..
Hope this helps anyone who can make use of this info. Cheers!
PS - Moto help personnel would first tell users to reset to factory settings by default which is not required.

I am pretty sure a lot of these wifi problems are router related. My Atrix 2 on Lithium rom would lose wifi connection on a Netgear N300 router but when I changed it to a Asus WL 520GU using dd-wrt firmware, the wifi problem was gone. However I have noticed after flashing the deodexed international Indian rom, wifi is good with both routers, so I would give the Indian rom a try if you have wifi problems.

I am using an Asian MB865 unrooted and I posted only for info for anybody using the Ubiquiti POwer ApN router to illustrate how I sorted the issue. Appreciate your input though.

make sure ur router is using Channel 1-11.. as A2 can only detect channel 1-11... Happened to me twice when my router auto use channel 12 which my A2 could not detect my network at all...

Just a heads up....
but if you are running Wireless N on your router/AP.....
make sure your Channel Frequency is set to 20MHz only... not 20/40MHz .. this causes channel banding and many routers and devices do not properly support this due to lack of strong standards for its use.
Change said setting and reboot router (especially if it doesn't ask to be rebooted)
Also, always make sure to update to the newest firmware for your router... companies like Engenius and Cisco/Linksys patch many issues as they crop up and many times it will patch a problem you have.
Refer to the following article for questions on 20/40MHz banding....

Maddening wifi problems with Captivate

Ever since I got my Captivate, it has had issues with wifi. It's not my routers, or any configuration in my routers, as it happens with 3 different routers (not to mention that I work in IT, so it's definitely not the routers).
Here's what it does. When you start with a fresh boot, it works perfectly fine. As the day goes on, it gets worse; it starts dropping the connection randomly, and eventually stops working altogether. This wouldn't be so bad of a problem, but the point that it "tries" to start accessing a wifi AP, it drags the phone down in speed, eventually freezing, causing me to ave to reboot the device.
I already tried all options with wifi sleep policy; I've tried 3 different ROMs; I've tried clearing all wifi settings and letting the ROM generate a new .conf file, I've tried different wifi firmwares. Nothing works as it should.
What should I do now? Does anyone have any tips for me? I know it's the OS and not the phone, because the last ROM that worked perfectly was Perception 4.
Thanks for the help.
Easy fix I found.
Open Allshare, it should have come pre-installed.
Connect.
Your Wi-Fi problem should be fixed.
You will have to repeat this step when switching between locations, or when you come back to the troublesome router. I don't know why this works, but it does. It seems to have helped alot of other users in other forums with this problem. Maybe someone should make a sticky of this...seems to be a big problem with 2.2 Foryo.
Similar experiece with both an EVO and Captivate with a Linksys router and DLink wireless AP. Whenever I walked into the house, the other PCs attached to the router would stop working, the phone would not get data although it showed as connected and I had to reboot the router - both wired and wireless clients. The Linksys was a very old firmware and I had bad experieces with flashing a few previous devices. I ditched my Linksys for a DLink 8 port and wireless and have not had the issue with either the EVO, Captivate nor any devices attached to my network.

This is news to me. You are correct, I do have Allshare. I'll try it the next time I have the issue.
What if I simply remove Allshare? Will that fix the problem?

I have 2 Linksys routers with the latest firmwares, and one D-Link. No matter, it does the same thing with them all.
I should also mentioned that I already tested with changing the router's wireless broadcast channels, signal strengths, firmware updates, the whole 9 yards. The problem is the phone, not the networking equipment.
I used this on 3 Captivates in our house and they are all working great now. Had F&*%%#ed wifi issues before that. They are all ok now. Hope it lasts!

I'm not sure if that will work. I don't think this is by any means a permanent fix, but a temporary work-around. I think it just kicks the wi-fi into gear again somehow...=-(
Hope it helps someone out though.
I had a friend who was having issues with her phone not even attempting to scan for wireless, seems there is an issue on android phones that the networking cache file or whatever it is gets cluttered and needs to be renamed. (Android recreates it)
The process is rather simple, I walked my friend through the steps over the phone w/o issues.
I had her use oneclick root/unroot to root her phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739304
Then Had her go through these steps to rename the file.
http://androidforums.com/samsung-moment/46179-unable-scan-networks.html
The steps are for a samsung moment but still work. Also noted that the steps w/o rooting do not work. After you finish renaming the file you can use the application in the first link to unroot the phone and go back to stock
SlappyMcgee seems to have the best fix
It wont hurt anything and I suggest just renaming the file to .old instead of deleting it. the entire process takes like 8 mins

Link doesn't work, at least for me.
Update:
The Allshare thing works. The problem is that it's not a feasible workaround, because you have to keep doing that every time you want to restart the wifi after the screen goes to sleep or what not.
I will next try that config file delete. I read up on that last night, but didn't think that was it, because I already did a few ROM installs which didn't seem to clear it up.

Little early for me to say this is working for sure. But ill be damned if it didn't, at the very least, temporarily fix it. Instant reconnect. Doesn't hang. Seems like it might be the real deal, for me at least. Ill come complain if it craps out again.
Edit: .... worked for 15 minutes. Aka doesn't work...

i had wifi issues and still do. my girlfried does too with her Aria. The phone really seems to only work on routers who have a DNS set to google. The bar near my house it flys and at home i was getting no wifi so I changed my router DNS to google from comcast and its fine. I agree there is a problem but not one that is going to get fixed by Google
My wifi workaround
I had two captivates which both had problems with my home router. Reseting the router never fixed the issue, but resetting the phone did, at least for a few minutes.
I found that phone has problems using DHCP with routers that assign addresses in the 192.168.1.xxx range. It seems to be a conflict with some other internal IP in the Captivate or something. To get around this problem, I had to change the local address of my router to 192.168.2.1, and change the DHCP range to 192.168.2.xxx The new subnet cleared up the problem immediately for me and it hasn't returned, at least, not on my home router. Unfortunately, this won't work on hotspots or other networks that are stuck in the 192.168.1.xxx range.

I ran into this problem on my Router. Netgear wndr3700. For some reason when I turned the wifi on my phone either the router was assigning it the same address as my Tivo or my phone wasnt accepting anything but that address. To resolve I forgot the connection my phone then reflashed the firmware on my router. Then reconfigured the wifi on my phone. After that no more issues.
Well i honestly dont know whats wrong with mine. I've done all the "fixes" in this and other threads but it doesnt work. What is weird is that it connects using All Share and only All Share. However it does connect at other places like my friend's, sister's, granparents and gf's houses. I think I'm gonna go to att and demand a new phone and an upgrade
Just wanted to post an update on this. For the most part, deleting the wifi configuration file in data\wifi seems to have cured the problem. The wifi signal did get stuck on one or two occasions, but I'm bound to believe that the issue was caused elsewhere.

[Q] [Help Required] Wifi Problem, but nothing seems to fix this.

For a month or so I've been having wifi problems with my phone.
It's one you often see discussed:
either A)
wifi scans, picks up presence of network [with excellent signal strength] then, on click, doesn't try to connect just changes to say out of range.
Alternatively B), it simply doesn't see the network at all despite me being 2 feet from the router.
This happens with my home router [we have two, neither work] and with what seems like every other router too.
I am currently running the 6.1.1 version of ARHD [with android 4.0.3].
I can provide any information that might help, I'm not at all bad with this sort of stuff normally, although not collosally experienced with android.
Thank you for your time.
PS. Steps already tried to fix problem:
Power cycling router, installing different ROMs,scripted wifi fix for 6.1.1, changing wifi channels, switching router to just b and/or g, wifi fixer app, removing authentication, using different router, changed radio, changed kernel, and possibly more.
Please any advice would be fantastic, I struggle to use this phone without wifi.
Try the wifi with your sim in a differnet phone - when that works choose a different rom make sure you go back to a stock RUU before the new rom
I've never been able to connect to a wifi network on my sensation. I've tried it with the stock 2.3.4 ROM, and with all of the ARHD ROMS.
I can see wifi networks, and enter the network password, but it'll never connect.
So I'd be interested in any solution for this problem also.
Have you tried on different routers? I can only assume the routers channel is set to one that the device won't work on? Have you changed your router settings before
Sorry my bad only read half,
Sent from my Sensation XE
OK what is your devices mac address showing up as? Maybe it's the same as another device on your network?
Have you done a full wipe of your device?
Does your bluetooth work? (same antenna as wifi)
Has it ever worked?
Have you tried disabling all your routers security?

Try to ensure that you are using the 2.4GHz channel for WiFi, if your router has that and 5GHz.
If you can pair with your router using the WPS button method instead of typing in the security key on your phone, I've found that was more foolproof in getting the phone properly authenticated with the router for network access.

Also, when you connect your phone via WiFi to this router:
1. There are no network problems downloading with a web browser or the Play store
but
2. the WiFi network does not seem to work when an app wants to download data?
The Play store is also an app, so that is why I am asking for clarification of the error symptoms.
Are you running the "stock" operating system, or have you rooted+unlocked the phone to run a custom ROM?

This "ghost wifi" issue as I call it is happening on some devices/roms. I was on synergy r73 for quite a while and would have this issue, fully connected, no data transfer. Toggling on then off would repair it temporarily, but sometimes when trying to toggle, the toggle would just hang for about 15 seconds before shutting it off. Others have reported this too, your not alone. I am currently running Jellybomb which is based off of vrlg7, where as Synergy r73 is based on vrlg1 and I am no longer having the issue. It is possible that this is an issue with the baseband and not the rom as originally thought. You could odin to stock, take the ota and then try the whole thing over again and see if that works, or just flash a rom based on a more current baseband, not just flashing a radio. Again, I have no idea what the issue is, myself and others that were discussing it a ways back never had a clear answer to the issue, but so far what I just explained has worked for me so far.

ViperS 5.1.0 causing arp poisoning on wlan

Hello everybody, this is my first post here but I have been reading the ViperS threads in the development forum since version 2. Awesome rom, I really like it.
However, I have encountered an issue with ViperS 5.1.0 . I would like someone else confirm if this is happening on his sensation too (with ViperS 5.1.0), because its a very annoying bug, and a potential security flaw.
A few days ago I installed ViperS 5.1.0 (from full wipe and no restoring of backups, clean install), and shortly afterwards I noticed that my home computers in my LAN (ethernet and wifi), where having some kind of little micro-cuts in communication with the internet, especially noticeable with google and youtube autocomplete feature and things like that. The communication completely stops for a few seconds, then resumes and works perfectly until a couple of minutes (sometimes less), and it happens again.
I checked my network with a packet sniffer, and found the culprit to be the Sensation. This is what happens:
I have wifi set to always active on the phone and, when the phone is left suspended with screen off, after a little while it begins to send bogus ARP protocol broadcast packets announcing that it has a random (and incorrect) IP associated to his wlan mac. It repeats it again with several other random IPs over time, and sometimes it also says via ARP that it has the same IP as my home router. In that case, it causes all computers and devices on the network, to try to access the internet via the Sensation's wlan card mac, which obviously fails, causing the micro-cuts. After a few seconds, the router sends the correct ARP information and the computers can access the internet again. This is very similar to an ARP spoof attack, but I can't see why the phone is doing it.
It's only happening with ViperS 5.1.0. I have tried disabling ad away and also tried to connect with a fixed IP instead of DHCP, but it keeps happening.
I have attached a screenshot to show the problem.
PD: On other subject, the wifi is buggy when changing access points in the same WLAN (I have 2 APs at home), it turns off, activates mobile data, and then turns wifi on again, taking a long while to do it. In ViperS 3, it just went from one access point to the other without disconnecting. This is a secondary thing, I can live with it, but I thought I should say it just in case it's a easy thing to solve for the devs.
Thanks for your time! I really appreciate your work. :good:
I have been trying to do a packet capture in the phone, and tried to find something in the logs, but I can't see anything. Could this be related to the wifi drivers? Since ARP protocol is in link layer, I can't think of anything else.
Also the other day I connected to a wifi network in other place, and it completely crashed the router, no one else could connect.
@ivicask , I would really appreciate it if you can have a look at this. Because of it, at the moment I'm using mobile data only even at home, and I'm going to use it up pretty quickly
Thanks in advance :good:

I have been using ViperS for a while, and I it certainly isn't ARP poisoning the network.
Try setting a static IP (set it to that alloted by your DHCP) and see if the issue persists.
Happy to help.

That's the first thing I tried, it didn't help.
I have googled it and seems there are some problems with the ARP offload feature in the wifi chip drivers, and several phones have suffered it, the nexus 4 and some HTC devices. A lot of people have reported it in the google code forums.
The thing is that it didn't happen to me in previous ViperS 5.0.0, so something must have been changed in the rom that it's causing it. Do you know where I could look? Maybe it's just something wrong in a config file and can be easily solved.

Sent from my HTC Sensation using Tapatalk
ok im posting it now, can you get a logcat to supply to the devs please?
Yes i saw this, but as only person with this problem, i didint investigate. There can be many reasons this is happening to you, but most likely its problem in your own network/routers. My suggestion is first try updating your routers firmware, if there isnt new firmware, just try resting them to factory default and re configure them. I have actual experience with this, my DIR-655 couldn't connect in wifi N mode until i reseted it.
Also HTC ONE users had problems with Dir -655 where it would reboot if HTC one would connect to it (Firmware issue).
Also from your pics i see "duplicate use of 192.168.1.1", are you running 2 routers on same network with same ip address??Than this is the reason of your problems, you cant have 2 devices with same IP in same network, even worse will happen if those 2 devices are actual routers, or even worse if both of them are running DHCP.So re-check your network, make sure only 1 DHCP is running, and there are no devices with same fixed IP address.
Also here are to 2 tests for phone with different wifi supplicant versions, try them ONLY after you make sure your network is fine.

EDIT:About wifi switching, same thing happens on my ONEX+ ...

Thanks for your answer. The "duplicate use of 192.168.1.1" is exactly the problem, I know that (I am a telecomms tech, I know how this works )
The matter is that the device that is claiming to have the same IP as the router... is the Sensation! See the "source" column in the pic.
I have only one router. Everything is properly configured in the network, the issue only appears when the sensation is connected to wifi AND with screen off. Then it starts sending the false random ARP packets.
Apart from the "router impostor" packets, there is also the problem that over time the other random packets will fill up the ARP tables in the router memory, causing it to hang, although this hasn´t yet happened to me.
In the threads I saw in the google code forums, people reported the same thing for the nexus 4 and several newer HTC devices with the same broadcom chip, (which also caused notification delays) and said that it disappears when disabling "wifi optimization" (with the rise in battery drain that it implies) , which looks like a bug somewhere in the wifi drivers. Unfortunately, disabling that option does not change anything for me.
This has started happening in 5.1.0. Never had such a problem before.
Thanks for the files, I will try them and report results.
Except for this and a weird bug with h/w accelerated videos screen corruption when free memory less than ~90 mb, the ROM is absolutely awesome :good: . It feels much faster and lighter than previous versions. You devs are doing a very good job :good:. HTC should hire you!
OK, problem solved. The test2 file solved it.
With test 1, it stopped sending random IPs in the ARP packets, but instead claimed to have 0.0.0.0 always, and not the correct IP. Also, it couldn't see channel 13 which I'm using on one of my access points (probably region was set to USA in this file).
With test 2, the ARP packets report the correct assigned IP (via DHCP and fixed), it can see all the wifi channels, and everything works perfect. It also appears to be changing from one AP to the other without disconnecting the wifi. This is the correct way it should work.
Still don't know the need to send the ARP info each 15 seconds , but at least now it's correct and there are no problems.
Thank you very much for your help @ivicask , I have seen that the wpa supplicant in the files you posted has an older date, is it just an older version or have you changed something in them also?
Will you include this fix in the next version of ViperS?
Thanks again :good:
Same for me. Killed my router. Especially if downloading at high speed. My router went upp and down. Now I have on other phone and my senny runs stock. No problems att all.
Flashed Viper to check 3min then router died. (it reboots)
Thanks
I couldnt neither write in the original post. By the way, i have the same problem with my wifi conection.
Now i solved it with Test2.zip. I have european wifi too and my router see fine now.
Thanks a lot for this rom and the help.
I didn't notice any particular issues with my WiFi, but I was having the disconnecting behaviour when switching between APs.
The Test2.zip solved this.
More, I tested the received power with Netgear Wifi Analyzer in an already tested place in my home. After applying the Test2.zip it looks like I gained ~10dBm. Maybe it's just something casual, but I wanted to report.
Last. The wpasupplicant file in the Test2.zip has the same modification time as the one in ViperSC2_3.1.4, so I think it has been taken from there
Good job anyway :good:

WiFi problem

I've noticed WiFi problem in my moto g 2015.
My home WiFi is not connecting, it reacts like gone through infinite loop. My home WiFi is having WPA2 protected access.
Every else's WiFi is connecting to my phone.
Please help.
It would help if we had much more details. A link to a video would be perfect. Does this happen with any other Wi-Fi networks?

Try factory resetting the device.

Did you manage to resolve your wifi problem?
I bought the Moto G (2015) 2GB RAM / 16GB ROM for my wife and she's having problems with the home wifi. It often says there is a "connection error" and loops to try to connect again and then fails. Her work wifi seems to function ok.
Having read about similar problems with older moto gs, people recommended (1) turning on and off airplane mode. (2) changing channel number of router.
Both sometimes work and sometimes don't. But it's not really a permanent solution. I'm a bit reluctant to do a factory reset and reinstall everything if it won't resolve the problem. The device came with the latest firmware already installed (5.1.1) and I haven't rooted or unlocked bootloader so should be a pretty clean install.
Anyway, would like to hear that factory reseting could resolve this issue or not before trying.
Thanks for any advice!
Mine does it every now and then. I just unplug my router, wait a minute, plug it back in, and then it connects.

Yes. It works for me too. But what happens if you're on a public or work wifi where you can't reset the router? It doesn't really seem like a long term solution.
Is this a standard problem with this phone? Anyone else have a similar problem or preferably a solution?
Cheers

Yeah resetting other than home router is not the answer. It's an Android issue as all my phones do it from time to time. I haven't been able to figure it out. The other "fix" if you can't reset the router is try going into the Wi-Fi settings, and forget the network/name, and then add it back as new. It takes longer, but it could work for you. That's how I get around it when connecting to work when it won't auto connect.
Hi, I had also faced the same problem with a open wifi network which is free for 15 mins ..
Other than that one ..i had every router connected to my phone..
I was thinking the problem is not in your phone.. It's in router which might be old
Because old routers will have 802 a or something which are in compatible to some phones..
Or the router is not allowing your phone to get connected.. As your phone is latest and it has advanced protocols inscribed in it..
Do one thing.. Shed some light on this now :
1) router model (if known to you)
2) phone models which got connected to that router and it's operating system version (like 5.1.1)
And there is also one more point.. I found our phone might find problems connecting to 5ghz band router ..while it works fine for smaller routers like 2.4ghz
We can decide when you dig some info about the questions I mentioned...
We will get answers
Just turn off wifi and then turn it on it will fix the problem

You would think it would be that simple, but it's not. It just sits there "Connecting", then nothing, then "Connecting". Keeps cycling like that.

My router is a netgear CG3100Dv3 (using WPA2-PSK [AES] encryption) and uses 2.4 GHz. I don't think it's the router's fault though because I've had many friends connect with a variety of phones and none of them have had the problem before. I currently have a Oneplus One (android 5.0.2) and have used a Nexus 4 and Samsung Galaxy S (1) on this router without problems. Maybe it's a problem with android 5.1.1 as I guess not many of my friends have it yet. I've written to motorola support but they still havent got back to me.

Strange. I've never had a problem before with wifi. Maybe I've been lucky until now. Yep - have tried forgetting and reconnecting to wifi signal. Again, a temporary solution that will quickly become irritating when there shouldn't really be a problem for such a simple operation.

It's a temporary solution but a pain in the arse if you have to reset the router every few hours. And as I said before, what happens when you can't connect to a router which you can't reset? (i.e. public, work)
Change the router's channel, then refresh the wifi in the phone.

Firstly i agree that our Moto G has some kind of issue with some routers.. but there will be solutions for them from the ROUTERS POINT OF SIDE to make it work
i have read about your router .. Things i suggest (if you have already done them then let me know )
1) your router has option to change MODE to get speeds more than 150mbps.. try changing that 802.11 MODE , restart your Phone and Router and also keep CHANNEL to AUTO , try changing the security WPA to others also..
2) your Wifi of your phone will have a MAC address , copy that and paste in your Router to allow this device..
i am still finding info on your problem..
the reason why i think your Router can solve the problem is : i had once read about 802.11 b/g/n/ac types.. i am getting a doubt that they are the ones causing the problem.. if you are aware of it
have a look at this bro once : http://www.smartmobilephonesolutions.com/content/cant-connect-to-wifi-on-android-smartphone
in this he said that Wifi fix apps can solve the easy problems..:highfive: , hope you find solution

Hmm. That doesn't sound promising. Will they sort it out with the next firmware update? Are motorola even aware there is this problem?

Ok. Will change channel to auto mode. It was already on "up to 300 Mbps". Will also put MAC addresss in the router.
However this still relies on having access to the router. What happens when you don't have access. If this is going to happen on many routers then I prefer to return the phone and buy one which never has this problem.

I'll give a wifi fix app a go to. But they just seem to automatically delete known wifi SSIDs and passwords.
Another option would be to root and install new ROM and radio, but would prefer not to.
It seems like a lot of Nexus 5 users on 5.1.1 are having wifi problems too:

Anyway, thanks for you advice!
Just a quick update if there is anyone else reading this thread with a similar problem.
I changed the channel mode to auto and that has seemed to fix the problem. The moto g seems to connect without problems now. I didn't enter the MAC address nor used a "wifi fix" app so far.
Fingers crossed...
I have the same problem. Wifi just stops working and had a ! Symbol beside the wifi icon. I have probably had a 100 phones and devices connected to this router without a problem. I have changed a bunch of settings the router and it didn't help.
Disabling wifi off then on works, but that is no solution. I will try anther Rom or kernel. I am on resurrection 5.1.1

My problem was slightly different in that the phone wouldn't even connect to the wifi signal. It would cycle continuously between "connecting" and "authentication error".
Does it work with other routers?

Thanks for your help! I'm still a little wary that the phone will have problems in the future on other routers, but it's a good enough fix for now. Hopefully a later firmware update will sort it out.
Unfortunately, my wife took the moto g on a business trip last week and could not connect to any wifi signals (her colleagues did not have a problem).
Not sure what to do now. I'm in contact with motorola support but they don't have any suggestions yet (apart from blaming the router - which has never had a problem with any other devices!)
