Yes it should, I used the Fastboot files listed on the noob guide, and this "How to flash the FXZ once applying the OTA update and get back to 2.3.5, ONCE YOU UPDATE TO THE OTS 2.3.6 YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO FLASH THE 2.3.5 FXZ WITHOUT FOLLOWING THESE STEPS BELOW!!
NOTE: Download this file HERE -
Unzip it and move all the the items in it to the stock fxz. You might get a warning about replacing files, just click OK. NOTE that Windows might not be able to handle the size of the fxz. I have 6 GB RAM but Windows still wasn't able to perform a drag-and-drop through the fxz's zip. I recommend that you just unzip the fxz and then put the files in. (You don't have to rezip it either, RSD Lite will still recognize it and will flash faster).
You should be able to use RSD Lite to flash the file.
THANKS TO COGEARY FOR THESE STEPS
" that's all there, so you should be able to flash over stock 2.3.6, boot into fastboot and run this

worked flawlessly from 2.3.6 with the failed fastboot issue. nice work! thanls

Instead of using RSD to flash stock, you can use this automatic script.

I've never had to flash a fxz either. So i'm not totally understanding it. Do we flash the zip from our sd card on our phones without a computer involved? Do we extract the zip first. I'm bewildered :banghead:
I don't have a windows box so none of that rsd stuff applies either. If this could work for me I'd be grateful to anybody for explaining it. Also, more willing to experiment haha.

It's a Windows batch file that uses fastboot commands to flash the contents of an fxz to your phone. Since you're on Linux then it wouldn't work for you, but it wouldn't be hard to make a shell script adaptation of it.

Ah ha! More clues haha. I understand what your saying. I need to get that process down so I can have more confidence in my own development.

this is a set of windows command prompt commands that flashes a new system image using fastboot. useless on Linux. you could try to adapt it to run in linux terminal.

I used this and it worked flawlessly. It is in some other language but all I had to do was click on it and then hit enter.
It is just easier, not that I wouldn't be able to do it using the normal method. But, if there is an easy way like this out there why bother.

modified 3e recovery has become an obsolete method... It is WAY easier just to odin flash the Community kernel. Instant CWM and Voodoo
My Infuse is rooted & stock Rom.
Can someone tell me how to install these or tell me if I am fine.
1. Put the phone into debugging mode
2. Run the .bat file
Do I have to reboot or something?
After running the .bat file the recovery is already modded?
Thanks for your answers.

It's simpler to get ODIN, get the Community kernel, and use ODIN to flash the kernel, instant CWM and Voodoo.
I'm not sure how to install this. I got my infuse literally yesterday and I'm trying to learn the ins and outs of installing roms. I tried to replace the recovery file using the manual 3e method but was unscessful. I was hoping to use this installer, but I don't know how to execute it. I tried putting the phone in debugging mode, and going to root explorer but there is no way to open it.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Are you just trying to get it into recovery? If so, do you have the Android software developer kit (SDK) installed? The SDK includes the adb binary. Download it, install it, then open a command prompt, cd to the 'platform-tools' directory where the SDK installed, insure your phone is on & plugged in via USB, and issues the command: adb reboot recovery.
If I'm off-base with what you're trying to accomplish, my apologies.

Don't use a KFx rom, the KF1 and KF2 versions of Gingerbread were really buggy and will give you more trouble than they're worth. You're better off flashing Octane, Valhalla or ICBINB which get updated frequently.

Which also means that you need to flash a KG4 leak or newer for the proper GB bootloaders. If not, you'll get a rainbow screen.
Similar Problem
Hey Guys,
I had a similar problem. I am using Fire Expert to overwrite the new recovery to the \system\bin folder. However, I realized my mistake was that I did not mount as r/w. After I did that though and I held the volume up, down and power, I stay stuck at the initial splash screen and can't go into the stock recovery screen. I can't boot regularly either; I have to Odin recover. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Overwriting the old recovery and putting the update.zip file on the sdcard for CWM Final was for Froyo ROMs only, not Gingerbread (GB) ones. What ROM are you currently on?
In order to get into recovery since flashing the GB boot loaders I have to:
Power off the phone
Hold down Volume Up, Volume Down, and the Power button
When the Galaxy S screen comes on, wait a second, it'll get a tad bit brighter. When that happens let go of only the Power button
Wait a few seconds and you should be in recovery
Sounds like you might be a bit goofed at this point, though. If you were on GB before I'd suggest using one of the ROMs in bhundven's The KJ6 Heimdall One-Click Collection. The last one in the list will also give you root, CWM, and voodoo lagfix.

I've not used it but if it allows you to mount /system read/write, then it should work fine as long as you're putting the 'recovery' file in /system/bin & the update.zip on the root of the sdcard.

1st. post in the correct section. This way you can get your answer quicker and you're not annoying everyone.
2nd. Find yourself a WINDOWS PC and install android SDK and all drivers for your phone to be recognizable. Then follow one of the posts in here to flash recovery.
You could also install ROM manager from the market and use it to flash recovery through it but its always good to have a proper SDK setup for this type of emergency.
This has happened to me before and I have fixed it by flashing the latest cwmr multiple times.
Try using a different USB cable if your com still doesn't recongize it.

Flash twice in rom manager. See if that changes anything. Don't reboot between just one after another. Also, in rom manager hit menu and clear download cache before you try flashing.

The only way I've been able to resolve it is to

2. Go into recovery and flash cwm 5.0.2.0.
3. DO NOT update CWM when relaunching Rom Manager or like app.

If you are still bricked you have no choice but to fzx back to stock. Then root and install the bootstrap. Backup. Do the cwm on boot stuff. Flash your desired rom. Now if you bootloop you can pull the battery a.d your back un cwm to restore a backup or reflash

Recovery Issue

So I'm having this issue with recovery. I recently got this Infuse and it was running cm9 but used the ODIN UCLB3 return to stock method cause cm9 was giving me issues and I always preferred running stock. Anyways, stock is painfully slow and laggy, so I wanna run jb 4.2.2. Now, here's my issue: I decided to try this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1776129 and followed the instructions but whenever I reboot to recovery, instead of the recovery menu appearing, what does show up is a mess of colored lines that look as if the lcd screen was cracked and nothing really happens no matter what button I press... I then wanted to try another recovery, so I used the ODIN method to install Entropy512's Daily Driver kernel with Red CWM Recovery and doing so made the recovery menu show up correctly!! I then followed the steps in the rom thread and it said to flash cm9 and gapps, reboot and when it got stuck in the splash to use power + vol up+down method to get back to recovery. well, whenever i do this, it does go back to recovery but, once again, instead of the recovery menu showing up, it shows all the messed up colored lines... i then have to use the odin return to stock once more and go back to stock :/ Im not at all experienced with samsung devices as all my previous ones were htc's, so any guidence and help would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advanced!

EDIT: well, im having another issue now... when using heimdall to flash the uclb3, it says i need to install the drivers... on the thread i ur sig it says to set them up and using heimdall method it prompts (right after the failed flash) to download the drivers, and, in order to do so, i would have to select "Samsung USB Composite" on the window that openned later, but that specific driver never shows up for install on the list... any help?

Drivers should be in the package. Don't recall exactly but I think the file is labelled zadig. I don't use Odin but if you can flash bootloaders from it you should be okay.

In heimdall suite open driver folder then run zadig as administrator, then click options, show all devices

Thank you both!! I followed ur instructions and managed to install the drivers and return to stock using heimdall method!! Next, attempt to flash cm9 and hope it all goes as it should
If you get rainbow effect again, you will need to flash bootloaders.

ok, so now i have another issue. i went to flash the red cwm but the links on the thread appear to be outdated and so i couldnt download the heimdall install mehthod for the entropy dd kernel + red cwm. also, the phone is (for some reason) not recognized by odin (probably cause i have no root??). the heimdall return to stock wasnt rooted, so now i have to root. i tried the superoneclick from one of the threads on here but it froze and wouldnt work, so i downloaded the superoneclick on the android developing and hacks forum and it gets stuck on shell rooting device... - Step #7. sooo, what can i do here?? thanks for the help so far, btw!
EDIT: ok never mind, i flashed infuzen a16 kernel and got the red cwm... so i went ahead and restored a backup i had made before i attempted all of this and now im back rooted now, im off to try and flash cm9!!!

That is the kernel I prefer to flash. In the future if you don't have or wish to restore a backup this root package ROOT THE UCLB3 listed in same Heimdall thread by qkster has worked just fine for me.

I recommend reading, reading, then reading that thread many more times. I have read it and followed the links in it many times. About every time I do I notice or pay attention to something else helpful.

definitely, and especially since this is all so new to me coming from htc... and, to add even more reasons to the convenience of reading all about the infuse, i think this is gonna be my daily device for quite some time... so i better read up on all i can!!
Also remember that the file format changes to MDT and any screw ups will probably require a return to stock using Heimdall or Odin. Read the OP instructions very carefully.
This is a guide guide to use too.
