Push Notifications - Samsung Galaxy SL i9003

It seems push notifications works in sleep mode in EDGE/3G for me.
I don't know if it was written before but this information may help you.
When you enter Samsung Apps, It installs an app called "Samsung Push Service". After that push notifications works perfectly.
I'm using JVKPE stock rom.

Thanks! Helped me alot!

That app keeps your phone awake, that's why notifications work.
This problem is now solved by XDA_bam in his latest kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1355675.

Are your sure that It keeps the phone awake?

Not so sure, but you can check it. Install CPU Spy (it's free), then open it, press the menu button->Reset timers and turn the screen off. Leave it like this for a while, then turn the screen on and Refresh CPU Spy stats. See the percentage of Deep sleep, it should be above 80%.

I guess you are right that ruins battery and I guess this app is for pushing Samsung Apps's notifications... While the phone is awake notifications works. That explains everything.
So, Is there a way to solve this issue without a custom kernel? I'm quite happy with my phone and don't wanna plug it to the odin again.

No, unless you contact xda bam for his patch and u patch it to your stock kernel and flash it... just flash the kernel, its very simple

doesn't work to me
I have installed the both Samsung Push Service and the XDA_bam kernel. None of them appear to work. As soon as the phone enters the deep sleep mode, no notifications arrive.
Wi-Fi works just fine, Gmail notifications arrive even earlier than to my webmail interface. 2G/3G doesn't work properly (it only works a few minutes after the screen is turned off).
I'm on a rooted XXKPH, XDA_BAM kernel version 10.
Any ideas? I'm losing patience with this phone and timely emails are VERY important for me

You are not the only one with problems. See if this can help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23376556#post23376556

You're still on XXKPH??? try XXKPQ or XXKPU along with BCK 10 rc 14.
And do not install samsung push service... that is meant for use with samsung ChatOn and is a battery hog.

Did as you said. Installed a clean XXKPE, then a clean XXKPQ and after that - the BCK rc14 (cache wiped, restarted the phone for about 5 times). No luck.
Few minutes after the screen is off notifications arrive, but later, when the phone is in the deep sleep mode, they either arrive considerably late (e. g. 10 minutes late), or do not arrive at all.
Any ideas? Thanks a million!

Hmmm... try with this kernel and report.. http://www.mediafire.com/?5rq4amddbhjdhub
Try over both 2G/3G and wifi.... and make sure you set wifi sleep policy to never...
also if you are using gmail, open the app and go to settings... go to account settings and uncheck the notify once option.
Also make sure Juicedefender and other such apps are not running.

May I ask how BAM kernel solved the notifications issue? Does it preventing the phone to go to sleep mode?

No luck yet

First of all, thank you for being so helpful.
I did everything as you told. However, just as before, WiFi notifications appear to be working constantly, but the 2G / 3G notifications stop working after a while (I suppose when the phone goes to deep sleep).
So until now, I've tried the B10, B10 rc10 and B10 rc14. None of them appear to fix the issue.
I'm also using Launcher Pro, but I suppose this is not related.
EDIT: I've posted about this issue in the XDA_bam's thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1355675&page=36), so maybe the guys there may have other ideas. Thanks again for all your help.

Push notification bug (Possible Solution)

Everyone is aware of the push notification bug since 2.3.5 update. What I have observed is when the apps relating to push notification are active or when we are interacting with them, push will work just fine. The real problem starts when we shift away from phone or maybe let the phone sleep. The problem is very severe when phone goes into deep sleep mode.
I have observed that if we keep data connection (exchanging data) active for any activity I won't miss a notification or push mail.
So I thought about a workaround. Just keep the talk (Gtalk) application active in background. Since doing that I am getting near realtime push notification. The only thing I have to check how much battery life is this going to hamper. I will test it out for a day or so and let you guys know. In meantime some people out there please try it and respond.

It makes some delay. Depends on time you choose in app, min is 4 minute so max delay will be 4 minutes.

wow.. There's no a script that fix this? or an app that let the wifi on in deep sleep mode? I am trying all type of things, wipe cache, dalvik cache, fix permissions.. Apk's, trying reeboting, removing the wifi cover..Factory reset and nothing works.. Maybe reinstalling the radio? There's some people that dont have any issues with the wifi, and i dont explain that
In VIPERS Rom there is a tweak to disable HTC SMARTSYNC (prevent wifi/data from disabling at night). See if it helps!
UPDATE: Seems like you already tried it! Aren't there specific settings in the app for notifications? try the fusion kernel it states about resolving HTC wifi disable issue! My phone's wifi reception greatly improved with the kernel!

Need help with tethering since new update.

T mobile us, rooted unlocked, never put custom Rom on it. I used to be able to tether even when screen shut off, now once the screen shuts off the data stops until I turn the screen back on. Any ideas how to fix this besides leaving screen on?

Bummer.
This actually had me thinking, since google play music is running before the screen shuts off and it constantly draws data, maybe thats why it stays active even when the screen is off. So I am going to have to test this theory by loading a huge webpage on the tethered device to see if you need a constant demand for data for tethering to keep working, I suppose I could just a youtube video.
Edit: My theory panned out and may lead to a fix. This is what I did
1) Turn on FoxFi an make sure screen doesn't time out 2} Tether my Asus Infinity to it making sure the phone screen doesn't time out 3) Start a long youtube video using the youtube app, I tried a 7 minute one. 4) Turn screen off on the phone and I was able to watch the whole video while tethered to my one s
My conclusion is if there is a constant data draw the tether will keep working even when screen is off. So they have enabled a rapid cutoff of wifi if your screen shuts off with no data draw, if there is a draw the data will keep flowing.
Test it out for yourself and share your results, off to try netflix.
Edit 2: Further testing confirms this on my device, This time I used netflix streamed dark of the moon and it continued to allow the tether to work. I dont want to burn my months data out testing this so we need a few more people to try this.
I have the EU rom but I'm experiencing the same issue.
I'm using Airdroid and it stops responding as soon as the screen shuts off. I can confirm that Ready2Mosh is right, since if I turn on the web radio and then shut off the screen Airdroid works flawlessly.
I have never noticed this before 4.0.4 so I'd guess the bug wasn't there. This is a major bug that has to be fixed soon by HTC.
What about 3g connection? Does it shut off too?
Does it do it if you just use the built in tethering app?
I don't think it is really a bug with android per se vs design
that is sleeping the app as backgrounded since screen is off and not being over riden anymore.
You're right. Tethering isn't put to sleep for me.
I can confirm the issue with airdroid and other apps though. I'm going to open a new thread in order not to hijack this one.
I tried airdroid and that works fine for me though.

Background Services being killed in EMUI 5.0

I know this is a common problem, but there are so many discussions about different bugs and builds and so much misinformation, i had to start a new discussion. I'm using EMUI 5.0 Android 7.0 b389.
EMUI kills power consuming background apps by default after about 10 minutes. Doesnt matter if the screen is locked or not.
The setting 'Close excessively power-intensive apps' does nothing, it makes absolutely no difference. 'Power-intensive app history' and 'History of closed apps' are empty. But when I use the tool 'Battery -> Optimize' it still shows: 'x power consuming background apps closed', and the services gets killed. I suspect EMUI performs this optimization by default from time to time.
Could somebody with a similar behaviour try the Optimze feature and see, if you can replicate the results? I've tried every possible setting and by now I'm pretty sure, this is a bug.
Second question: Who solved a similar problem by rooting the device and either:
a) Putting the service (for me it is Whatsapp) in the system app folder
b) Disabling the Phone Manager. Here im wondering, if there are negative consequences doing this. Like settings disappearing (e.g in the Battery menu) or faulty RAM management or whatever.
Nobody has Problems with notifications or background processes anymore on EMUI 5.0? A response if everything works fine, like Whatsapp notifications, would be great too. Maybe I have a faulty device.

It's turned off, but the app is killed even when the screen stays on, so thats not the problem. Whatsapp is installed fresh. I even did a factory reset and just installed Whatsapp, but the problem remains.
Would you mind trying something for me, to go under:
settings -> battery -> optimize
And see if it says something like "1 power consuming background app closed.
If it doesnt say that, then you should see a green checkmark.
Also is your whatsapp power consumption high? Mine is at 28 mAh right now for the last hour, and EMUI seems to decide, thats too much.

Thanks for trying that. That means, your phone has also recognized these background apps as power-consuming. But the difference ist, thats what happens to my phone every 10 minutes. Maybe my device is faulty for real.
Ive tried every possible setting, factory resets and new installations. Ive even disabled Power Genie and Phone Manager over adb. Nothing works. Man, this just sucks.

Yeah me too, but it did not help. I think this setting is about the doze feature from android. So strange that nobody else seems to have that problem since Android 7.

Question Delayed notification on text messages

Sometimes I don't get a notification of an incoming text message until several minutes after it was sent. I'm totally stock and I have disabled adaptive battery and I gave unrestricted battery usage to the messages app. Anyone else having this problem or know how to fix it?
Do u maybe have doze/aggressive doze options in any apps u have? Maybe wifi/mobile connection disabled at screen off/lock option somewhere? Anything like that in general? Provider/connectivity issues recently? Poor signal issues at all? R u rooted running stock or non-rooted? Is it just recently? Installed any 'new' appz at all? Lotsa possibilities...gotta go thru and try n tick 'em off one at a time...a bit of detective work should give u a suspect...hopefully.

As I said, the phone is totally stock. The wifi and mobile is on. I think the signal strength is fine and I don't think it is a provider issue. I don't understand what you mean about the doze option in apps. I've never heard of that - what kind of app would have those options? I think it has happened since I've had the phone, but it is hard to say since it only happens sometimes and it took me a while to notice it as a pattern. I don't get a lot of texts typically and if I get a text, I don't always notice that it has been delayed. I think that it might happen most with the first text I get in a day.
'Doze' is a low power mode that android goes into after a few hrs. with no activity or screen wakeup. But if ur not rooted then I think it requires ADB to allow perms...if u did, you'd know it...lol
If there's no 'suspect' apps installed then the next step of uninstalling 1 app at a time until there no more occurrences may not be feasible. Only other option I can think of sux...a factory reset with wipe then add ur apps one at a time etc...

Thanks. I can't think of why an app would be able to affect this problem and I don't want to go through that amount of work, so I'm going to live with it and wait and see.
