[Q] TF101 BB0 full bricked... - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have a BB0 eeepad. So, I've tryied to change kernel, After doing that, my eeepad continue rebooting, stucking on the Eeepad first screen (before the asus logo). CWM is not accessible, if I try to power on in apx mode, the tablet does that correctly. I have installed the correct driver using your tutorial (video) but i get the following error:
rcm version 0X4
Command send failed (usb write failed)
If I try to get into CWM, i get the double icon screen, wipe data or android. If i choose wipe, it works, but the tf101 won't boot. If i choose android, the screen show me "cold booting android" and it get freezed...
Could you help me ?
Thank you

Boot into recovery, you have to press Volume UP before the option to 'wipe' or 'cold boot' comes up to get into recovery. I have a feeling you aren't doing that.

Nope, i did it, but in this case, it continues to reboot in loop... (Same as wipe data)

You have a BBO so APX mode is not gonna do anything for you.
So Vol down plus power button till you see words at top left
Immediately push Vol up within 5 sec to get into recovery.
If you wait too long you get the cold boot/wipe data option.
So you're saying even pushing Vol up within the 5 sec don't work?

Yep, Immediately Reboot over and over again...

can you or not acces to cwm? if you can your device is not fully bricked
wich version of cwm recovery do you have?

I have the same issue, I have a B70, I have CWM Version v5.5.0.4, and can access it. I can get in to APX mode, and tried the NVFlash with the hopes I was one of the lucky B70's but got the same message:
rcm version 0X4
Command send failed (usb write failed)
I can get in to the cold boot screen, but I ONLY have the wipe data option, I do not have the Android logo option. Any help would be appreciated with this... I was definitely not trying to hijack this thread, but I really didn't think it was necessary to post a new thread for the same issue.
I get stuck on the Eee Pad startup logo. I can see the tablet in Device Manager as Asus TFP Device, but cannot get ADB serial to recognize it.

If you have no recovery, and you cannot get into your ROM, and you are SBK2..hang it up, you FUBARed your tab..sell it to someone who needs some hardware maybe? Try to RMA it to Asus, who knows- and then go sign the petition to release the SBK2 and this problem would not inconvenience you or Asus any longer when this happens..
Sorry guys

You need to put working adb. try with a linux livecd or whatever you can, with that version of cwm recovery you will need some commands to be able to acces a microsd card and reflash the device

I'll send to Asus... Let it try...
But no, I've no access to CWM...

You more than likely voided your warranty by flashing or rooting your device BTW..so good luck getting Asus to cooperate (fooling them)

Unfortunatlly, i've not other choice... (except if NvFlash's team find a solution for B70+)...
Wait and see...

When I try to get adb to recognize the tablet, it runs for a second, then lists attached devices , but no serial #. It does not say no devices or anything... is there any hope I can push a rom?

That is supposed to happen, you need to execute adb shell to get a shell or adb push file /sdcard/ to push a file to the sdcard

I have the exact same thing, upgraded to ics, all worked ok, rooted, all ok for 2 day then nothing after a reboot, cant nvflash vol+ & power doesnt find any options bar stock if i recover goes to dead android with ! then asus logo and nothing. So it seems the issue is with the upgrade but as most of us rooted we may have a problem, mind you i did the wipe and recovery so it may have erased evidence.

If anyone is selling a TF101 I would love to buy one...
I forgot my TF101 on top of the car and ran it over, still works but the housing and lcd digitizer are dead >.<
Please email or pm me if interested

Well, good news...
As I said, I've sent my TF101 to Asus (to Czech Republic). I said my Tablet was bricked by updating to the ICS rom (That's not wrong in fact...).
So no problem, they flashed my tablet and sent it back. I've received it yesterday, everything is OK

Stuck no recovery. No nothing.

I have a sl101. I only get eeepad screen. My son did something to the machine. I can get it to say booting recovery but nothing happens. I also can get a text that says cold booting Linux. Again nothing happens. Nvflash says USB write fail. But when I check adb the device is recognized. Is there a way for me to adb push a recovery in there for me to boot too, so I can reflash a rom. I have a little dilema here. I also was wondering if I can flash rom thru adb. I read once that's how they used to do it on g1. I don't know if I am speaking accurately though. Any kind of light shed on me will be greatly appriciated

not sure about the slider but i had a customer return yesterday with this exact issue on the tf101 and i couldnt get out of it. the tf just kept switching itself back on and getting stuck on the splash screen.
found this set of instructions but im not sure if its what you need or if it will work:
http://androidroot.mobi/technical/asus-eee-pad-transformer-tf101-root-cwm-recovery/
good luck
That is exactly what is going on with mine. The slider is basicly the same thing. I plug it in and I tries to boot. I thought you had to be booted into recovery or the rom for adb to work? That's why I believe this method you just revealed to me. Or some variation of it will work. I will be trying shortly.

nvflash if your TF101 is compatible model.. (must B60 and below).
Or read Wolf's thread HERE. It might helped everyone here..
Thanks but everything needs adb connexion and as apx is not working, i can't connect ADB..
I have a B50 model
Nobody have a clue ?
well, I have to send it back to my reseller that will change it but before that I need to delete clockwork mode or brick it, how can i do ?
I tried every thread here, update rom does nothing, looks like it does not write anything on the tablet
Thanks in advance
try to follow this procedure...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25636698&postcount=5
let me know
Hello, thanks, but as I can't get to apx mode, I can't use nvflash, so still stuck with my recovery, I tried to modify super Wipe package to do things but can't get through...
If someone can make a package to delete recovery, then I can try it on my tablet, I really yneed it to be bricked cause now it load with Rogue's recovery on and on, so the reseller will new it has been modified and I will have to pay to get it back ...
Thanks in advance
with the procedure posted in the previous link you don't need APX mode and don't need NVflash...
Just boot your TF in recovery mode and plug it to your pc...
remove all previous drivers and install the new one that you can find in the post
ciao
ps... at the end of the procedure you will have your TF101 with stock rom and stock recovery
I will try but even when I am on recovery, nothing appears in Hardware management, no recognition from My computer, still strange... And when I power + vol down key, It never says to presse vol up in the text in the upper left corner, just says booting linux kernel...
When I try to boot pressing vol up + power, nothing happens, not even the clics that can be heard when it powers up...
I had a similar issue when I used SuperWipe and discovered my ROM on the external SD Card could not be accessed by CWM
I tried pushing the file with adb but kept receiving errors - protocol, etc. I suspected it was a driver issue along with the fact that 64 bit systems don't always play nicely with drivers. I actually dug up an old hard drive and did a very basic install of 32bit Win7. I booted the Transformer into CWM and when I connected it to my PC - I pointed it to the universal naked driver. I was then able to successfully push the rom to internal storage and used CWM to flash it
Hello,
I tried to connect my tablet to an old Windows 2000, but still nothing happens
Hello every one, I finally sendt back my transformer to my reseller, now I can buy a new one...
Thanks again

Stuck! Hep! Won't get past Asus screen or go into apx mode

Ok, I swear I have read 100 pages of similar problems, but it looks like everyone else is able to get into apx mode at least to run nvflash or easy flasher.
1. Turn on xformer with power button - stuck at Asus Eee Pad screen
2. Try to boot into recovery with vol - + power;
- volume up to enter recovery, ded android with an exclamation
- volume down to choose between 'wipe' and 'cold boot' both result in getting stuck at Asus screen
3. Plug in xformer, hold power and vol +; nothing. Never shows up in device manager and it doesn't beep or anything like the ones in all the videos do.
I really just want to get up and running at the very least, as I handle all of my businesses billing through my xformer, but my ultimate goal is to get on the HD-ROM.
I have downloaded the newest firmware from asus, have all the drivers installed (I think), have tried booting into recovery with one, some or all of the new software on the sdcard.
Any more ideas I can try? Do you just have to hold your mouth right to get it into apx mode? I have held those buttons so much I think I'm getting Nintendo thumb!!!
Thanks all!
nobody?
Throw something at me! What update.zip file do I put on the sd card? I have tried putting the newest asus update.zip on there with both its original name and the update.zip name. still comes up with a dead android and an exclamation point.
Download a firmware from Asus, rename it to EP101_SDUPDATE.zip
Put it on the root of your sd card and boot into recovery, hopefully it will flash it and let you boot up.
As for NVFlash, make sure you install teh APX driver.
Still won't get past about a second or two of trying to boot with EP101_SDUPDATE.zip on the sd card. Think I'm stuck, or is there something else I need to try?
Thanks!!
..Do the apx process and try using brks tool......just dont flash touch recovery! I couldnt get the drivers to show but still managed to nvflash recovery using the tool. Its install solarnz external sd recovery so you can put a rom zip onto micro sd.
My issue was after doing this normal on off reboot kept booting to recovery and i had to cold boot into the rom.
I tried the wheelie beta and it has ended up wiping the tf completely.....so dont do that lol. Its still a soft brick as i could still nvflash recovery but decided that aslongs its wiped of root etc id just send it to asus.
If brks tool flashes for you then id try nvflashing prime and see if that works.......i think it will but i ran out of time and patience this morning to do it......at your own risk of course.

i am the same issue by flashed the touch CWM and window wont able to reconigzed my TF as a APX device
i tried many drivers it still not able to work.
how can i get back to normal CWM? i dont have havy roms or update.zip in internal roms.. and Touch CWM wont able to recongized Removerable sdcard
god~~
The root and backup option should flash you an external recovery.
While tablet reboots hold down volume up and power until reboot stops.
Then try brks tool again and select root and backup.......during the process it may ask if you want to back up but its not worth while as i dont think theres anything to backup. You should end up with ext micro sd recovery.
As i said id look for the prime rom thread and download the nv flash version and see if it works first.
If asus restore the wiped TF without question and everything goes ok il let you know as it may be worth wiping it with wheelie nv recovery and just RMA.
I just simply CAN'T get it into apx mode. I've installed, uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers. Trying to flash ep101_sdupdate.zip still just results in an error. crap.
Hold Volume-UP BEFORE holding power, then hold power for 5 secs (Still holding vol-up( doing this all while connected. It should show in device manager.
Couldnt get Tf to show in device manager either no matter what.
I know it may not seem as though its in apx but if it has stopped rebooting when you do v up and power then it seems it is......
Seems to be an issue thats starting to become more common and very difficult to fix properly.
PC will just not recognise the TF.
Hmm - sorry i couldnt help more but id still try nv flashing Prime and if you can get to a blank screen using volume up and power without the TF rebooting theres a chance its in apx.
Best of luck dude.......

no better way to fix it than that
nice one
Yea, I like it pretty good so far. Volume is WAY louder on the 300, even though there is only one speaker. The screen also gets darker, which is nice if you watch tv or browse the interwebs in the bed. Also, wifi reception is great. Haven't tried gps yet, but I'm sure it is improved.
It did get really laggy, but I did a factory reset and it seemed to clear out the cobwebs.
Thanks for y'all's help! I'm still going to try to unbrick that tf-101 and sell it or something. Hate to have a $400 paperweight...
People will buy bricked ones on Ebay for a reduced price, just clarify that it is in fact bricked.

Even if we will have nvlash someday you will need to have working fastboot mode on your device,if not nvflash would be useless to you.
How did you flash recovery?
Did you do anything other then boot it up after flashing?
Can you connect using adb or fastboot?

The problem is that it just wont leave the very first boot screen. Unless there is a way to fix it in APX mode that does not require already being set up through the device (which is possible see this) and knowing the secure boot key there is no way to access recovery or fastboot. Until we know the Secure Boot Key I have a bad feeling its not fixable. And god knows how long it will take them to release that. I do not understand how releasing this information to the public could impact their company, or why even have them in the first place. I paid for the device, I should be able to access every part or it.

[Q] Loaded Wrong TWRP on TF300T and can only access APX mode

Hello,
I loaded the wrong version of TWRP on my TF300T. When it rebooted it loaded CM10.1 just fine. I then rebooted a second time in recovery mode and I have been stuck at the ASUS screen with the "device is unlocked" message. I am able to get into APX mode but my research has shown that mode doesn't do me any good if I haven't ran a nvflash backup. I am stuck and I would appreciate some advice or suggestions. I wonder what the factory reset fee would be from ASUS.
Thank you for your responses!
what version where you on? what version did you load that you think you shouldn't? Can you enter recovery mode? fastboot mode? I used fastboot to fix my recovery TWRP just can't find the thread I got my info from.
if your seeing the asus screen like you say I don't think it has anything to do with your recovery. I just went though fixing my mistake and breaking my install of TWRP 2.4.4 patched had to install 2.5 TWRP and when I restored my backup 2.4.4 was back and working again. anyway while the recovery was broken I could still run the stock rom that was installed at that time. I think if your on the asus screen your kernel has an issue.
I don't know where I read about issues like this but I know others have had em and recovered search or someone else should be able to point in a direction but have hope doesn't sound bricked yet.

Thanks for the speedy response =)
Version History: Stock 4.1 -> CM 10.1 Nightly 0503 or 0429. I had CWM on it before trying to load openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-tf300t-ICS.blob using the terminal emulator method. I think I should have loaded the JB blob but the warning on the TWRP site said to use that if you ran the offical OTA update, which I never did so I stuck with the ICS. It installed fine, then rebooted into CM 10.1 just fine. I then rebooted from there into recovery and have been stuck at the ASUS screen since.
The Vol + - button keeps me in the ASUS screen. Reset button keeps me in the asus screen. Vol + + puts me in APX mode.
I try running fastboot in APX mode but it hangs stating "waiting for device" so I don't think it'll work in APX mode.
Thanks.

Am I looking at repair here?
If you send it in for repair, ASUS will charge you $198. I suggest you buy a replacement motherboard off of eBay and replace it with the one in your tablet. Also, to save other people's tablets from bricks, you may want to look into this petition.
if you get stuck in fastboot mode then there is a zip file I will find the thread again and it has cmd files that run the fastboot stuff. I was stuck not able to use fastboot commands and then the zip I found worked like a charm.
its a zip file called adb-t.. instructions where to put the twrp.blob in the folder and the update in my case 10.6.1.15.3.zip and it flashed it even though i couldn't manually do it. really wish I could find that thread but I don't have my laptop right now

please give me some time. laptop is home again but I need time to look thought my browser history to find the thread. I was searching TWRP 2.5 threads.
I could also find a place to drop the zip file its very small. you would just need the correct TWRP.blob file and a ROM if you want to do that also from this file set I found.

found it. Hope this helps you like it helped me out of my broken recovery. once you download and add the files you want its pretty easy. the script in english makes it pretty easy to understand what your doing and hope it works since I know my TWRP was broken I couldn't even sit at the recover, android wipe screen for more then 3 mins without it bootlooping. I put it on that screen while connected to laptop ran the recovery flash and all went well installing TWRP 2.5 which I then recovered my backup and that even restored my 2.4.4 patch TWRP like nothing happened at all. tablet runs great and have made 3 backups that work after all this.
Good luck

Please take your time. I have no problem waiting especially if the only solution is to drop 75$ on a replacement mobo.
You could send me the file via email or drop box if it's easier. I was going to use the TWRP 2.5 JB with CM 10.1 nightly. I appreciate all the help!

look at my please wait thread. found the link in 2 mins and added it above plus a little on why I used it and how bad mine was so to explain why I have hope for yours.

Power up your tablet while holding down the Vol- button, then wait until a menu appears on your tablet. Within 10 seconds, hit the Vol- button.
On your computer, run "fastboot devices". If it finds your tablet, then download the correct recovery (http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/tf300t/openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-tf300t-JB.blob), copy it to your fastboot directory, then flash it using:
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-tf300t-JB.blob
Followed by a reboot:
fastboot reboot

I tried running through your tread but none of the commands worked on the script. Probably because I can't get fastboot to work. When it tries to load a recovery it just states: "waiting for device" and sits there. =/

Thanks for the info. I am unable to get fastboot to recognize the device. The only way the PC recognizes it is via APX mode. Download mode just sits there at the ASUS screen and windows doesn't see any devices.
Still no love. Am I bleeding out the battery correctly? I am just running the boot screen until it dies then I try to power it on again.
I popped the back open today to see how difficult it would be to replace the mobo, doesn't look too bad. Just having difficulty finding a good online guide.
Also, just so I have the terminology straight, when the tf300t goes into a "boot loop" does it ever leave the asus screen and go black or does it just hang? Mine never goes black, just sits at the ASUS screen with "the device is unlocked" message. The only time I can get it to leave this screen is when I do a reboot and hold the + sign. then it goes black and APX is detected on windows.
Just wasn't sure if any of that information was useful.

One other solution is to unplug the battery for 30 minutes, then plug it back in.

Ok,
Tried disconnecting the mobo, no love. Ordered a new one for 75$ on ebay. Replaced the mobo and now the volume button doesn't work. Checked all the ribbon cables and they're snug. Probably broke something but I can't find what, so I am thinking of sucking that up. I can control volume with the settings. The only downfall is without a volume button I can't enter the boot loader, so no rooting/ cwm.
Least I'm back in business for now! And another positive is the mobo I received was 32 gig storage so it's like I got an upgrade... with a broken volume button =)

Usually, the volume button does not fail. Remember the volume button connects to, but is NOT part of the mother board. If it feels stuck when you push it, that's because you snapped the back cover in wrong. You need to slide it in at the corner where the buttons (volume & power) are, then pop in the rest of it. Take it out and do it again.

[Q] Bricked TF700

Hi.
I own a TF700T and seems to have bricked it. Last status was: I had the latest stock ROM with root running and wanted to get a CM11 based 4.4.2 image from here. I downloaded it and used rom manager to get it installed. But the install script failed at some point and I thought the recovery might be outdated. So I used ROM Manager to update recovery... I tried CWM and TWRP option. Finally I booted up into recovery trying again to install those damn rom - I used the option to wipe all data / settings from the main menu and tried again to install the ROM which again failed (I do not remember the error message clearly). I gave up. I used the "reboot" option.
Now:
- Powering up gets me into the screen with the ASUS logo (left upper corner says "the device is unlocked"). Here it is stuck forever.
- Power + Vol-Down is same as just Power - I do not get into flashboot with those 3 small icons... I just get the ASUS logo and nothing else happens. Reset hole does not change situation. The device is pretty much "always on" now (till battery is exhausted) as long-press Power turns off and immediately on again
- Only thing that seems to work: Power + Vol-Up ends up in APX mode - my computer recognizes the device via USB at this point
Unfortunately I never did any set up to nvflash.
Do I have any chance to get this thing alive again?
Thanks a lot in advance,
q2.

Unfortunately ROM Manager does not work with the TF700 and you are not the first one to find out the hard way...
If you cannot find a way to boot into the bootloader to have fastboot, there's nothing you can do anymore without the NVflash blobs.
Did you try holding Vol - and then pressing the reset button in that little pinhole on the side of the tablet?
If you have ADB drivers installed on your PC you could try if you can establish an ADB connection at any point. If you did, you could issue the command: "adb reboot bootloader", which would enable you to flash a recovery and/or bootloader. This probably won't work since you need to be in the recovery or have Android booted for ADB to work, but worth a try anyway...
Admittedly these are very thin straws - but what have you got to loose?
Also: Just a few days ago a user here was stuck on a bootloop to recovery and couldn't get out of it. He left it alone overnight and all the sudden the bootloop sorted itself out... I have no explanation for it and it is unlikely to happen in your case, but you never know...
Good luck!
Thanks for replying.
Yes, I did keep Vol-Down (means Vol-Left) pressed while pinching the reset button. It did not help.
I will experiment a bit more. It's not really a boot "loop" - it gets stuck at the ASUS logo and this does not change anymore. Not overnight.
So far I could only see it being recognized as USB device in APX mode. Can you give me a bit background here? I have nvflash here. The blobs are not available anywhere on the net? Or why is that all a big fuzz? I used to have a Notion Ink Adam and APX saved my life several times, but the blobs were available to everybody. Nobody has the blobs here? Or are they device-specific?
I cannot believe that a today's device with a non-bricked bootloader and working APX is totally lost and even the manufacturer will only offer a costly RMA to replace the whole mainboard!?
Best regards,
q2.

For the TF700 the nvflash blobs are device specific - sorry.
Damn. That was the only answer I didn't want to read
Thanks a lot. So chances are gone, only RMA could help... I will ask friendly at Asus what costs they will charge...

Update:
Reply is here.
They only want to exchange mainboard. They of course know (and it seems that this is the only thing they know) that my bootloader was unlocked, therefore this is no case of guarantee for them. I know, I wrote to them that I just want to know how much they wanna charge me to fix this issue.
But: they don't want to tell me how much. They say they do not even know which revision and what hardware is inside my tablet, not even from my serial number. And I must first send them my tablet and they will charge me 95 Euro to check what's going on. And then they will tell me how much it will cost (and according to other threads I saw prices of over 400 Euro for a mainboard change - the TF701 successor model cost 450 Euro new in store)...
I somehow feel the need to reply that if they would've put only half the energy the put into logging who has unlocked the bootloader into the fact of making APX usable as a emergency recovery (as obviously not even Asus is able to generate a working blob for my device), they would have higher customer satisfactory statistics. I still just cannot believe a today's device lacks of all recovery options after a bootloader fails for some reason - as well as I cannot understand why Koush did not display a warning in ROM manager if problems are known to the community with this specific device (I mean the problem did not arise last week and ROM manager had tenths of updates since then).
I know that in the end all was my fault. And all flashing is done on our own risk. I will have to deal with it.
Phew...
Unlucky. It should be be stickied here somewhere that ROM Manager bricks the TF700 but then there is no guarantee it would be read. It is well known on this forum but that doesn't help people that don't visit frequently.
You can replace the mainboard yourself fairly easily. Watch the you tube vids on how to do it,. That is what I would do if I was in your position.

Unfortunately I'm stuck in same boat I tried to wipe out settings completely and clockwork mode was stuck and I was able to wipe recovery with TWRP or so I thought tried to reboot into recovery got stalled and now stuck on asus screen. I'm not opposed to buying a new motherboard but I find it very hard to believe that no one has come up with a solution to flashing the mainboard with the original firmware. I'm tempted to ask asus but I know the bill will be more then the tablet. Did you find an easier solution or do I just have to swap out the mainboard?

Thanx, but it seems like to backup blobs I have to do the very thing that will risk me needing backup of my blobs? ... install a custom bootloader before I have a backup?
Is this right?
Is this a safer method?

That's correct. You have to flash a modified bootloader and recovery. Done correctly this is not risky at all. But if there is a single line in the instructions you are not sure you understand, you are not quite ready.
There are quite a few tutorials on flashing in fastboot on this forum. Read them.
But generating your nvflash blobs you have to do without a safety net. It's worth it though! I have become much more adventurous with my tablet since I have the blobs squared away...

How do you define risk?
Flashing a bootloader (without having nvflash access) is always risky by my definition, it *can* permabrick your tablet if something goes wrong at the wrong moment. But it's the best we have.
