I'm having trouble updating my firmware past 3.12. If I go above that, I get a constant reboot so I can't update my ICS ROM that requires the new firmware. I've only tried the Inquisition ROM, so I'm not sure if the problem exists for other builds.
I'm currently on Inquisition 3.0, 3.5 still works. 4.0 is when it stops working.
Will going back to stock and re-rooting fix this?
Actually i'm using HD Revolution on my Sensation and works well. I supose you could try another custom rom updating firmware or back to stock rom with original firmware and kernel.
Regards!

Hi,
Is there a way to system update without installing a custom ROM? Since I can't receive OTA updates I've been stuck on the same version of android ever since I rooted.
Alternatively, is there a stable ROM which I can flash, as all the ones which I've tried have been buggy?
Running android 2.3.4 with sense 3.0 on orange network in the UK. Rooted with revolutionary.
Thanks a lot.
android development has all the roms and the latest versions of them or you can go to rom manger and flash from there
is it rooted android can update official ics??
If you are on a custom ROM, no. If it is only stock ROM with root, maybe. Typically, you need a stock recovery to accept OTA updates. If you used the HTCdev unlock method, you might still have stock recovery. If you used Revolutionary, most likely you have a custom recovery.
There's no way to recieve the update via ota while rooted unless your stock rooted but I'm pretty sure a dev will make a custom rom thats fully stock with the lates ICS build for the Sensation
if you are using stock rom

Im using rooted stock rom.....and i receive automatic update yesterday for ics... After updating the root was not remove but the boot loader is now s on.....
you should flash stock RUU first to get everything completely stock, especially the recovery.
no need to s-on. s-off is fine. and do not flash any custom recovery this time!
leave it stock and unrooted.
then you can apply ICS OTA after applying first OTA until ICS OTA.
after that you can flash custom recovery and root your device.

Haha yes, i have faith in the devs from our forum. OTA updates will come attached with sense and other bloatware, not exactly something I want to deal with.
if i flash back to stock rom can get the official update??
still on old custom rom not the ICS version

With the highest possibility - Yes!
So i think i have the same question.
I have my official stock rom rooted on my htc sensation, no custom rom installed.
But when i try to update to ICS (i get the option to update over the air) it gives me the "error" screen showing an android man, besides a warning mark.
So is this superuser blocking the update or something else?
And how can i update to ICS.
(i don't care if i lose my root, the phone can be rooted after the update)..

Just restore stock recovery and intact stock Rom file (not delete any apps in original stock rom) and you can update via OTA. But the bootloader could be lock again.
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using XDA Premium HD app
If you're rooted it is NOT advised to apply the OTA as it's more than likely going to screw your phone up. You're better off just going to a custom ROM instead
Hey,
I'm a little confused right now, and just want some clarification on a few things since I know if I do this wrong, my phone might get bricked in the process.
Right now I'm running stock HTC Sense 3.0 (went to my stock backup from my last ROM) rooted and s-off, with ClockworkMod Recovery
HBOOT 1.17
My end goal is to end up with a device where I can flash CM9, and have it work properly. And I believe I need the android 4.0/sense 3.6 update. Which I cannot get since I got my phone s-off
From what I understand I need to flash the stock recovery to be able to install the ICS OTA update, so my device will actually run CM9.
Where I am stuck here is what file do I need, and do I flash it just like a ROM?
Any help would be hugely appreciated!
Thank you
You need to update the firmware to run any ICS ROM.
Once you update the firmware you can flash CM9 like any other ROM.
I have been using various Roms based on the stock 4.3 update (cleanROM, alliance, mostly stock). and I have had issues with constant resetting and crashing - I have to pull my battery several times a day. Is this because I am updating the roms but I haven't updated the modem/baseband?
If so, should I just flash the modern in my current install, or do I need to re-flash everything?

Are you on a unlocked 4.1.2 bootloader? Or are you on a Locked 4.3 bootloader (Took the 4.3 OTA) and using safestrap? If you took the OTA then your radio is already updated. If you have an unlocked bootloader and just flash the ROM in recovery then you probably haven't updated your radio yet. You can do so if you want. You are looking for the ML1 radio. NOT THE FIRMWARE (very important you do radio only!!!!)
However I do not think the radio is your problem. Has to be an app causing problems. do you use Titanuim Backup to restore apps?
I was recently running a Nougat rom for the M8 and after some severe performance issues at time I wanted to try to revert back to a stock rom. I tried flashing both the stock marshmallow and the de-bloated roms but even after re-installing the Marshmallow firmware I get stuck on the boot screen. Can anyone help?

did you install just the mm firmware, or the full ruu? also, does flashing the N rom you tried to downgrade from boot up if you flash it?
I used the firmware, and yes flashing the N rom got me back in.
if you are flashing a mm rom, try also flashing a custom kernel for it afterwards. aosp kernel for aosp rom, sense for sense etc
