[Q] 3g randomly doesnt work - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ive been running stock rom on stock kernel android 2.3.7 (rooted) on my nexus s 4g on sprint. today my 3g suddenly doesnt work, 4g however still does. i havent flashed anything recently to cause this it worked in the morning and then just stopped, any help?

Make sure data is enabled and you can try switching to airplane mode for a few seconds and then switching back. Usually fixes problems for me.

I'm not entirely sure atm. If you're running all stock w/ root it's also a possibility that it's an issue with the phone itself or the cell tower that you normally pull 3G from.
Also try enabling data roaming or disabling it if you already have it enabled. That could fix the issue also.
If all else fails you can try this that I pulled from another thread.
Code:
1. Go to Dialer. Dial *#*#4636#*#*
2. Go to Phone information. Choose the preferred network to
"GSM Auto PRL" or "CDMA Auto PRL" or whatever you have.
3. Scroll down, deactivate and activate Phone Radio.
4. Press Menu button.
5. Select Phone frequency, then choose your country.
6. In the previous menu push the Home button to go back to Homescreen.
7. Reboot.

[Q] [bug report] cm_p999_full-34 internet problem

after flash everything works very well. and I have both WIFI and 4G turns on.
after few hours, I disable WIFI because I am going out, I found APN setting are all gone! it is a blank page. I click on "add new" add a new one in and save but nothing shows up. I can see the icon of "data roamming" is on, but without APN, I cannot access anywhere.
- I reboot few times. it doens't work.
- in APN page, I use "restore the default", nothing comes up
master reset fix the problem. but it happens again after few hours if I have both WIFI and 4G on for a while.
thanks
by the way, there is a way to fix it. turn the phone to airport mode and back, then APN all appear! included the one just added, and this process doesn't require reboot at all. hope this helps others
i too get this problem only on faux's rom. full wipe and new sim card. any help would be appreciated. ty.
where to report
Hi,
what is the best way to report this bug?
by the way, about the solution I provide, you may need to do that more than once until it shows up.
I think the problem could be
1. any power saving feature come with the rom? which turns thing off?
2. wifi calling?
thanks
Same issue with data but can't get it to work with cm7. Tried the following:
Battery pull, power on and off, airplane mode on off , volume up and power button, pull sim ,
Able to enter apn information but no data

Sudden Disconnection from network?

So out of nowhere, my HTC Sensation no longer connects to the network. I would get roughly around 5 mbps around my house, but just all of a sudden, it stopped working. I tried rebooting the phone, and turning on/off airplane mode, and it just doesn't seem to be working. Anyone have any more tips before I try and factory resetting? Also i think I may be experiencing a bug because every time I open any app, I get a very quick glimpse of the weather instead, and then the app opens up. Thanks
What was your previous phone with t-mobile? If you don't have an "android plan" it seems that T-mobile is blocking you from data.
Check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1128335&highlight=data&page=5
I had the same problem two days ago and had to do a factory reset to solve the problem.
Previous phone was MyTouch 3g, so I'm sure I'm on an android plan
Thanks for the link, I'll check it out
Don't assume it's your phone. It's possible that service in your area is down. If you have another t-mobile phone check to see if it has reception. Next go into settings, wireless&networks, and select mobile networks. Then choose network operators and select automatically. If nothing comes up I would call t-mobile because resetting your phone.

[Q] Wifi "stuck" requiring reboot

Hi,
I've noticed that my XT1032 sometimes has its wifi "frozen".
What happens is that I'll be out and about and perhaps connect to wifi hotspot at a coffee shop.
When I get home, my wifi is "stuck" and still thinks it's seeing the wifi networks from when I was out. If i run a wifi analyzer app, it reports still seeing the wifi hotspots from when I was out.
Turning off wifi and turning it back on doesn't help.
I need to reboot the phone for the wifi to work properly and see and connect to my home network.
Anybody else getting this behaviour? Anybody have any suggestions on a fix?
no need to reboot,

Same here!!
I also have the same problem. In addition, what I noticed is - I turn off the WiFi in Settings page and when I go into Settings->WiFi, it shows that the WiFi is turned ON. Now if I turn it OFF here, again when I come out, in Settings page it shows that the WiFi is turned ON. This goes on and on until I reboot.
It's probably a software issue
If you are rooted, then install a good and stable custom rom and you are good to then

I think that's the same behaviour as on my phone and probably why turning WIFI off and then on again didn't fix the issue -- it probably didn't really turn the WIFI off whereas I'm guessing that putting it into/out of Airplane mode actually does disable and reenable the WIFI.
I can live with the Airplane mode trick -- much better than needing to reboot!

I have the same issue, but with another irritating problem:
It ereases all my previous saved wifi network.
I cant stand this. rebooting the phone always makes me loose all my previous saved wifi network. Did this happened to you guys, too ? I will try airplane mode and see if it stops erasing.
Hope kit kat solves this Sh*t
6 days since I moved into KitKat and no issues with WiFi so far. Hope it stays the same way

Me too!
Same issue for me. Doesn't happen often - but sometimes it does the same thing with my cell network connection. Also fixed with a quick airplane mode and back.
No one know a fix or at least the reason?

New APN for straight talk on oneplus

If you thought your data was slow lately it probably was there is new APN settings for straight talk with one plus one on the att network. Had to delete the old APN or it would automatically switch back to it.
I have OnePlus One with Straight Talk and keep losing of Mobile Data. I have tried you settings but does not work. I have done clean install with cm-12.1-YOG4PAS1NO-BACON AND CM-12.1-20151007-SNAPSHOTY0G4PA0331. and lose data with in 24 hours
I would check with the ROM you are running and see if other users are having that issue I have no issues on Exodus ROM
MMS LTE issues
So, the other day I was having issues receiving MMS. It would work when I first reboot, but once I connected to wi-fi, it would go away, even if I left the wi-fi area. I decided to update to the next available nightly which I didn't realize was CM 13 (I was on 12). After doing so, I couldn't reboot because I didn't have the gapps loaded for 13, so I ended up having to wipe and reload everything and start fresh. Still didn't fix my problem.
Updated the setting and I'm still having the issue.
-connects to LTE on first boot and works fine
-lose cellular data when connected to wi-fi (can't receive MMS)
-lose all data after leaving wi-fi area or turning off wi-fi
-data works after reboot until I connect to a wi-fi router.
I tried deleting all the APNs listed in the phone and only adding the one above, but I'm still having issues.
Thanks if anyone can help

Just realized I don't have to do a full restart to get the data back, I just have to go into Airplane mode and back out of it and LTE comes back up.
For some reason as well, my location is showing up about 3 hours from where I am in Virginia.
I had a similar issue (Losing MMS/Data) on my Galaxy S3 a few years back and I had to load an older radio (I think, it's been a while)

LineageOs No Cellular Data after initial install.

So I 'sideloaded' LineageOs on my stock OPO the other day with the current TWRP, and have not had mobile data since. I have searched around a bit and found on the OPX that they have a fastboot flashable bootloader that fixes the issue there. Do we have anything like that here that doesn't involve going back to stock? Or does anyone know a fix for this issue?
used adb sideload to install TWRP.
Then used sideload to install lineage and nano gapps in TWRP.
Went a day without realizing I had no data.
Started toggling airplane mode. Redid apn that was already there. Reboots etc.
Searched around on xda.
Downloaded and flashed most recent c7 modem.
Searched around on xda.
Making this post.
Thanks for any help.
Looks like I got it fixed. Through my searching I saw where peeps are able to stick in another sim and get data to work. So I decided to call ATT gophone.
Turned off wifi.
Turned off cellular data.
Went to APN and changed the apn (ATT Go Phone) from pta to nxtgenphone.
Turned on cellular data.
Finally had H+ above he signal bar, but had an X inside the bar.
Don't know if he did anything on his end, but the X went away after a couple of minutes.
Data was working, albeit kinda slow.
Turned off phone for three minutes per ATT rep.
Rebooted.
Data still slow, but it is at least working. Thinking I need to flash different modem. Battery usage has been higher the last day or two since I flashed c7 anyways.
Thank you
This worked for my Honor5x l22 version with an Att gophone sim card. Im forever in debt.
Thanks! This msolved the problem for me.
I installed (and reinstalled) LineageOS on my Note 3 and nothing could fix mobile data. This post saved the day.
I had to do one more change:
APN type -> default,mms,supl,hipri

Another related problem and solution.
Whenever I switched on WiFi mobile data would turn off. Then when WiFi disconnects, Mobile Data never came back. Turning it back required turning on & off Airplane Mode or restart.
What fixed it:
- Go to developer option and select "mobile data always active"
- I also selected "Aggressive Wi-Fi to Cellular handover". Don't know if this option helps with this problem but I have it on (remnant of trial & error).
(I know it's an old thread but recording it here so that someone else benefits as I did.)
