Compatibly of Kernels and Clarification - T-Mobile LG G2x

Would a kernel designed for cm7(or 9) work on an AOSP or AOKP build of a Rom because somebody said that they are very similar. Also maybe sombody could clear up the differences between CM, AOSP, and AOKP. I know it is Android Open Source/Kang Project, but i am unsure what those actually mean.

Aokp is a cm9 base rom so any kernel that works with cm9 will work for aokp. Faux has beta kernels out and I believe morfic does as well. Make sure to click on cm9 kernel not cm7, cm7 kernels wont work with cm9

Razor's kernel is the Defuse kernel but yes, you can flash the different kernel over your current rom. But the Defuse kernel does appear to have a couple bugs in it so I wait wait a little bit.
thank you very much
if the android version is the same and they are for the same device it is very likely for the rom and kernel to be compatable. exceptions touch wiz roms need touch wiz kernels, aosp kernels need aosp roms, sense roms need sense kernels. there are some rare situations where a rom and kernel build need to match like some gingerbread versions for the i9000 dont work with kernels from certain other gb versions. but since we only have 2 firmware builds and they dont have a conflict between them you should be able to use any rom with any kernel unless the des did something wierd to get a feature working.

[Q] about aosp kernels relation to aosp roms.

Question, most phones including the G1 came with an aosp kernel. There is no source for their GB kernel, yet they are able to make the kernel for CM7.
YES, we have the froyo kernel source. So, could we make the froyo cm6 aosp kernel and reverse it just like that of the G1's and build the CM7 kernel from it.
AOSP kernels are reversible. Build an aosp froyo kernel, reverse, rebuild for the Aosp GB kernel.
The G1 does have source =0
Edit: Nevermind, misread OP
I want CM6 FROYO.

It is possible, only issue is I have no clue how to compile the AOSP kernel, otherwise i would have built it by now.

Dude, no idea what you mean raver, I am talking about cm6.

Good kernel?

I just switch to the shift, wich is a good kernel with good performace and with good battery life?
If you are running sense based rom, try the newsense kernel, dodge, or even the supreme sense rom work well. The difference is set speed and voltage, just use no frills or setcpu. They are listed in the dev section

For aosp we have many. Stock cm is stable. Pershoot is boss. Scary for older aosp.
Shifted from Outer Space
NewSENSE is my favorite sense kernel. It has the full source with the config and everything in it. I'm running it right now on stock rooted. I'm also going to be posting a short "how-to" compile kernels as long as the full source is there it'll work and how to discover what toolchain the developer is used to compile it. This will include how HTC compiles their kernels as well.

[Q] Custom Kernel

Hi my skyrocket is currently running 4.0.3 ics leaked rom, and I was wondering if i could flash custom kernel on ics rom, or would I have to stock gingerbread to use custom kernel. I just do not want to get bricked etc. Thank you.
It depends on the ROM, if it's SKY ICS or some other modded Samsung rom, then you pretty much have to stick with stock, or do some research because I don't really know what Kernels are available for it. Maybe someone with more knowledge will chime in...
If it's AOSP based (CM9, AOKP, Chimaira, etc), then the only other option I know of is InstigatorX's kernel, which seems to work quite well. Pick a stable version, since the latest has issues with the camera. The stock kernel for CM9 is also quite good, but the CPU governors added in Instigators are great for saving battery.

You can flash cymbaline. Don't try to flash instigator's cm9 kernal you aren't using an aosp rom. Cymbaline fits your deal nicely. You'll dig it.

I also use this kernel and in conjunction with System Tuner for OC/UV.

[Q] Need help choosing an aokp kernel

I'm running jellybam 9.1.2 jb. Does a kernel need to be for either aosp, or aokp? Can I run a kernel made for aosp rom on an aokp rom? Sorry, kind of new to the kernel thing. Thanks
If a kernel gives you the option, choose the one for Aokp /cm. Jellybam is based off Aokp.
I've looked for an aokp kernel
I've looked for an aokp kernel, but I'm not having any luck finding one. They're mostly aosp. Thanks for the reply

AOKP is a CyanogenMod based rom modified with features that aren't in CyanogenMod . CyanogenMod is based directly on AOSP but with features not in stock android . With that being said the AOSP kernels work on your rom.
