[Q] Anyone lose Market with Google Play update? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Anyone else have the issue where Market is gone after "Google Play" update? I found the apk and pushed it with adb but still, it's a little odd. Not really running anything "Custom" just some mods to the stock 2.3.6.

Market was simply replaced by Google Play. Just go through your apps and you'll see Google Play, that's the new Market.

Market is called Google Play now . It should be in the app launcher.

Works fine here.

Yup, your old App Market icon will show not working, then will disappear upon reboot. New icon says Play Store.

I understand all of that and expected it, but what I am saying is there is no Play Store, no GooglePlayStore.apk, nor Google Play anywhere on the device. Pushing the apk resulted in no change, restoring /system.
Update:
Something must have just got borked in the OTA upgrade, I after restoring /system I forced the upgrade and we are good to go.

Yes, it is called "Play Store" now. weird name, i feel it doesn't appeal to a bigger audience.

I'm stock and mine still shows the Market. Doesn't show Google Play in the app drawer yet.

Go to application and clear data in market and then go back to market

Cleared data, went back to market, clicked Accept when the Google Play notification came up, and it took me into the market. Restarted the phone and it still shows up as "Market" in the app list and no icon for "Play Store" shows up.
Would it matter that I'm using Zeam Launcher?

Clear zeam cache or data. You will lose your customizations but it should show up

Can I just switch back to Touch Wiz launcher and do it there, and then after it is done, move back to Zeam?
Edit: Tried clearing market data from inside TW and then selecting market. Still gave me the Google Play disclosure, which I accepted, and then it still loaded the Market. Still doesn't show Google Play in the App Drawer, still shows Market, and Market still works.
I guess it doesn't matter all that much what it is called as long as I can access the market?

Same here, it's still Market for me even after I accepted the terms of Google Play.

If were running full custom, I'm assuming we don't need to change it or are they disabling the Market app entirely for this

Yes i did i downloaded it again from 4shared

Neither mine or my wifes changed, but accepted the terms. Odd.

Google Play
Yeah I'm running NexusMod 4 and I hit accept on the information but still 3.4.4 Market, which works. Odd.

Yeap same thing here, running NexusMod 4 and still showing old Market but it still works. I accept the new Google Play prompt, but its still called Market. Hope they dont disable this soon and then I got no Market or Google Play.

A few days ago I was running Silver rom. That's when my market icon was replaced with the Play icon. Flashed Red Sonja and now stock, both of which have the market icon back. Weird.

Anyone have this problem with CM7? :/
Works fine for me...
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Well it installs through market app and runs. Thats not a problem. But It doesn't show in "My apps" in the market probably because of this. And Web based market wont let me install it. So it wont get updates unless i manually install it again.
Edit: can only install it in oold 2.3.6 market cause its incompatible
Looks like I am having serious issues with my Google account. Now my phone completely disappeared off the account and I am not able to install anything through website.
Already did a FULL wipe and installed google apps and signed into google account and dl some apps. Still cannot see the phone on my google account. Any ideas?
Installs and works great with stock GB rom.

If you cant use the new Play Videos, cos like me, you're rooted, get OTA rootkeeper from the play store, save your roots, then disable them when u want to rent - works just fine - then re-enable root when you've finished
FYI, autoupdate on Revolver ICS after updating Google Earth. (done nothing else, beside listing music)

Apps incompatible

Since upgradung to the leaked ics, I noticed hbo go is not in the google play store. I went to the hbogo website and clicked the link to download it in the google store. It pulls up but says its incompatible with my device. Is there an alternate way I can download this

Don't you have to modify something else in order to get that to work? I thought I read something about a build.prop file or something..

Groupon and Living Social both work on mine, although I'm using the Stock Revamped ROM. As far as Groupon goes, did you do a backup and then restore in Titanium Backup? If you do that Groupon doesn't launch. If you delete it and then redownload it via Google Play it should work fine.

I'm using Mod1411's NexusMod ICS with LCD Density set to 200. I thought it was the LCD Density at first but it wouldn't work even if I set it back to 240. I searched for Groupon first on Google Play but couldn't find it. Going to the direct Google Play link it will show me as incompatible
Even after setting density back, you have to clear google play data and may have to go to recovery and wipe caches and reboot.
Can anyone speak to the HBO (No) Go app issue? Has anyone been able to get this running on their phone? I'd like to get that back up and running.
Well my i heart radio app was working fine until they released 4.2.1 version for it, now I get that my device is not supported.
Update, found the app on the Amazon app store and it installed and works fine.

Good , hopefully when MOD1411 get a chance to put out the new ROM it would work fine.
Just loaded the new AOKP and had a few issues with app incompatibility, couldn't get SwiftKey and others to install... I tried all the usual suspects - LCD Density, reboot, clear store data, but two tips I haven't seen anywhere else that both worked for me:
- Manage Apps, Google Play Store, 'Uninstall Updates'
- Install from browser instead of Play Store on device
Hope this helps someone!

[FIX] Google Play download/connection problems

Many people have been asking why Google play either fails to download apps or fails to connect at all, so here's a few things that might fix it!
1) Clear the Cache from Google Play in your settings.
(Settings > Applications > Google Play > Clear cache)
2) Try removing your Google account and re-adding it
3) Seems obvious, but try turning your internet of and on
4) Try rebooting your device
5) restart your internet (Through your main hub)
If non of these work, you may be best contacting Google to get it checked out!
Hope this helps

Also tried everything. Even complete uninstall of the play store through titanium backup and reinstall manually the apk. No luck. Internet working fine, only market is dead. The strangest thing is that it was working well, I did not modify anything, then it stopped working.
Please help
If you've tried everything above, you could try restoring your phone. This would be a pain but if you back everything up first shouldnt be too much of a problem. Or you could just leave it a week or so and see if it starts working . If not, I'd say contact Google.

That's the obvious last solution, but it doesn't really make sense. There must be a reason for the market to be doing this. I also tried manually installing a few different versions of the play store apk, not just the latest one. Still the same results.
I know what you mean. Maybe certain devices can sometimes have trouble accessing the market itself, or maybe its just a temporary thing with the Google servers.

1 more thing.
If you patched any app using lucky patcher, it would have created an odex file in data/app. In order to install it again, you should delete that .odex file.
Sent from my muffin LIFE! Under maintenance.!
I don't recall having used Lucky Patcher. Sadly I will never find out what went wrong. Flashed another rom. It was time for a change anyway
I will try this trick
I think also, if you install a ROM or have a device that does not come pre installed with Google play, that flashing Gapps may be better! Because I've tried manually installing the play store using an apk before. And most of the time it won't downloads apps. Try to flash Gapps as that may solve it. You can get gapps by searching for it followed by your android version on Google ^_^ good luck

I had a similar issue where my rommed kindle fire either couldn't connect or was unable to download apps from the play store. On connecting to the store the device details failed to register at all limiting greatly the available downloads.
Resolved the issue by using a gmail address for logging into the play store. For some reason using email other than gmail caused an issue.
Also removing/hiding unused devices in play store allows you to reconnect devices correctly it seems.

I think the registration process creates (or allows you to create) a gmail address but you can log into play store with the non-gmail address used to register. Unfortunately it seems doing so causes download problems.

Try using it with a gmail address then? Other than what I suggested I'm not sure to be honest. My last solution was to contact Google but they can't give a lot of support to custom ROMs.

I had this same problem with my LG Optimus V, famous for this kind of thing. The first time this happen, I clicked on settings, then Applications, then Manage Applications. Then clicked ALL, then Google Play Store. Then I clicked on Force Stop, then Clear Data, then Clear Cache. Then run Google Play Store and agree to terms. This always worked for me using Froyo 2.2.2 -- When that didn't work, I un-installed the updated Google Play Store and reverting back to the basic one.
Later on this problem happened again, but this time it was when I rooted and flashed a custom ROM. I started getting the error message the file didn't download, but this time it was also telling me the file couldn't download because of low memory. Go figure, Optimus V only have 256 megs of internal ram, but anything below 100 megs gives the the Google error. So just before tossing my phone in the trash I read a post somewhere here on XDA forum that showed step by step how to partition a microSD card and link the second partition as internal memory using an app called Link2SD.
So I tried it on a 16 GB card and after rebooting my phone, it fixed it. Never had the problem again. Plus my Optimus V thinks there is 1GB of internal ram now. Being most phones today have 1GB or more internal ram, there should be no reason for this kind of error.

Hey Guys,
Regarding the latest Play Store update there's this annoying new feature (I was hoping it was some kind of bug) that stacks any updated apps at the top of the "My Apps" list and I find it really annoying.
Is there any way of clearing them so they go back into the list ? Google Maps is still there from 2 days ago and now I have another stuck up there and it looks untidy.

Play Store throwing *DF-PFA-02* error can't retrieve information from server

after ****ing around with a google wallet exploit for my S3 which I probably shouldn't have done (build.prop modding?)...the google play store home page throws a dreadful error of "error retrieving information from server DF-PFA-02" I cleared the app cache for the play store, google services framework, tried to remove my card on google wallet, re flash, wipe everything. Still throws this error. And this error code is not very known either, so my searching in google was cut short...especially the "DF-PFA-02" error
it works if i downgrade the play store to the android market, AND it works if I use my other google account. AND the new 4.0 "phonesky" apk play store homepage works
due to certain reasons, I would like to keep my old play store version, before the 4.0 overhaul
I can download apps and apparently update them..I just can't openly browse anymore D:

Install the newest version and it fixes it.
Because the old version is exploitable with in-app purchases, so Google is forcing you to get the new one, so its not just happening to me.
But my other Google account works fine with it?..

Thanx for pointing out the obvious and I take some blame for that.
Yes, I read the last two post before posting but I can see how I didn't make that clear when I asked the question.
I meant to ask: did you install the new playstore (which still isn't available to the public via an update) to fix the problem OR did you find a solution to fixing the current version?
