First AOKP ROM for G2x, 4.0.3 - T-Mobile LG G2x

The first AOKP ROM for our beloved G2x's, from a familiar developer

I wonder what the difference between the kangs and this is. Time to do some research

This is based off of Android Open Source, but the kangs are based off of CM9 source

whitehawk made a thread in the Dev so check out there and make sure you know what you're doing and read, if I remember he got rid of his g2x so he needs logcats and substantial info on what is broken... not crying about things people.

Faux123 has taken time out of his life to help us out with this kernel, help out and test with us please!! Thanks! Don't forget to thank him and anyone that helps out!! Enjoy!!!!
I still love you Romracer and Da_g!!! i just like to have more options... you know? kinda like dating 3 girls at one time... 2 is just not enough.. ahaha

I am down to test it as long as this does not show up in Dev forum again!!!!
I'll test as well
Thanks guys you wont be upset!!!! soooo goooood!!1
From what I understand, lots of T-Mo dev's build off Da_G's source, or at least I'm told (from him).
Wouldn't mind having a new dev though, I'll test.
You should have asked him to help port CM7...he was one of the major devs who got the Atrix supported by Cyanogenmod. I'd rather him help make a stable CM7 so we can get nightlies and CM9 when ICS comes out. You think you can ask him to do that instead?

The only reason why I suggested the CM7 is because CM9 will be ICS based and eventually 2.3.5/6 will be old. OC'g to me, now, is pointless because I don't have a need to OC. Some people might want to OC but I only did it to see how high I can score on benchmarks.
My vote is to make CM7 stable so Cyanogenmod can make nightly updates and eventually port CM9 to the i727.
Yeah I'm down for cm7/9 so ill keep this up for a day or so before telling him. Thanks for the feedback

Not sure if the audio issues are kernel related or not but whatever he can do would be appreciated greatly by many in the community. I would willing to contribute to him for his efforts if he can get the few kinks worked out to get it supported by cyanogenmod.

This phone can run CM9 w/ no problems. Feb has proven that to us. It's going to go to a 4.0 Source code drop of this phone, or the DHD to get it before we see a stable build for it.
This is pretty exciting news imo. Any indication the CM team hasn't forgotten about our device, the better. I am curious about getting into the nightly routine but I have really liked using TDJs KANG when I use CM. Mostly because I almost always get better battery life on his kernels.
On that note, does anyone know where to download the Darkside X kernel he packaged with the 7.2 KANG? The kernel thread he links to only has 12 and 12.5. I can't find it in the my touch forums for the life of me. The only similarly named thing is in his new Samsung device forums but it clearly states in that thread that he compiled it from Samsung code so that can't be the same one he bundled with our KANG can it?
I supposed a more experienced user or amateur dev can extract the kernel from the KANG and make a flashable version so I can use it with the nightlies; but I would never ask for such a thing.........

I think they didn't want to just throw away CM 7.2 before jumping into CM 9. Plus there are certain things that don't work, such as the camera, that I don't think the CM team would push out a build without things like that working at all. I doubt we'll see a stable release before HTC drops any ICS source code.

Nope, nothing resembling a kernel named Darkside X for glacier. Doesn't seem like anything on there was updated in the past 2 months though.
There are 3 possibilities I see as to an explanation.
1 - the kernel is 12.5 with almost nothing different. Enough to warrant a different version title but not enough to establish hosting it as it's own new thing.
2 - it's the Samsung kernel and it's compatible with the mytouch (doesn't seem likely but his kernels have magically been cross-compatible before [g2] so who knows).
3 - it's a current version but mislabeled. That seems so unlikely from what I know of this dev that I won't even entertain such an idea.
I haven't noticed a world of a difference from this "darkside x" kernel versus the kind of performance I got on the 12.5 so I will just pretend the darkside x is some anomaly and be more than happy with using 12.5.
CM9 is way to far from a lot of devices, only devices getting official nightlys are the nexus phones (crespo, toro and the new galaxy nexus ) thats why they are developing cm7, cyanogenmod needs to re-write all the code becuse google makes a lot of changes in ICS

im guessing audio will be partially borked in this as there are changes in gerrit that are not merged yet, and without proper workaround (found in earlier states of doubleshot repos, and teamds repos) gtalk chat and g+ hangout will be having audio issues.

Been running this since you posted it in the CM9 thread. Didn't full wipe when coming from Alpha 4 and I can say it's running just fine. Same bugs as Alpha 4, which I expected. Haven't noticed much of a difference at all actually but my battery life has sucked since rooting (damn you stock, I guess you are good for SOMETHING) so I keep flashing away hoping that it will improve. It may just be my imagination (or the fact that the battery is just getting more calibrated) but I have been noticing improvements from update to update. Thanks for putting these "nightlies" out there. There is definitely a place and purpose for teams testing their releases first but one of the reasons I root my phones is so I can get the first fruits and be a tester
I don't have plans to kang this, but I'm intrigued to see what people can come up with. Coming from the Glacier, I am still getting used to the comparatively low development for this device. (That's not necessarily a bad thing, 3 different devs releasing the same compiled AOKP is pretty redundant anyways.)
Thanks again.

It's Pig Latin for Gank. You know, when you take something with out asking. It's just a term given to builds based of source with out any changes. If it had mods, and other goodies it wouldn't be a kang. Then you can kang other peoples work by just changing something a simple as the buld.prop. Kang is used for a lot of things. When I see Kang next to CM9/AOSP/AOKP/MIUI. It's normally good, but a Kang of a stock Rom. Those tend to be stolen work.
Also Kanging is the act of having sex with cankles.

Yes they are but you don't need source. I come from the att note which doesn't have official ics or source and we had pa. Pa is a aosp rom like cm9 and aokp and we have both of those. Which shows kernel source is not needed
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
We don't need kernel source for the initial port, though we probably will to get the port bug free (for example, the CM9 build and multitouch).
I tried downloading the PA source a few days back but it kept erroring out (something about signatures not being trusted or something)
It might just be an SSL error on my PC, I'll have another go at it sometime soon. Seems like an intriguing ROM.
Yea its a cool rom. A team mate ported it to the note and its pretty bug free. I haven't looked at their sources lately but have they released source for pad?

I'm sorry I've looked at paranoid android before and for some reason I was confusing it with Coredroid.
I haz a stupid.
However, kernel source will make building an AOSP kernel much easier. Right now we're using the One S kernel source and while it works for the most part, there are still some niggling issues as can be seen in the AOKP and CM9 threads.
But hell yeah build that thang!
Yea in that aspect source will be great but since the kernel for cm9 seems good it'll work for now. But if any one does do this good luck they put their code everywhere and if you miss one strand it won't work

stock android, cm9, cm10 info?

Hi all.
I am interested in running a vanilla ICS or JB rom on this phone, and CM9 or CM10 will also do. Where can I find information on builds for this phone? Cyanogenmod does not have it under their "supported" devices....
There is a whole forum containing what you are looking for: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1726
Yes I am aware of that forum, but I posted here because it was a "question"...?
My confusion is that there seem to be a ton of forks from cm9/cm10 and I didnt know if there was one that was better than another, or how to go about weeding through them. Its just messy to try and figure out.

There are only 4 options? AOKP ICS, AOKP JB, CM9 and CM10. You can pretty much disregard all the other ones if you're looking for CM based roms. Also, we are officially supported by CM10...Though you should read that forum before downloading and flashing. Some of the unofficial fixes have not been merged yet.

CM10 is stable enough for a daily driver as long as you don't rely on your camera/video camera too much (though this may be fixed now, didn't test). However, with nightlies you're always risking flashing a broken build. That's just how the game is played on any device.
