[Q] clockwork mod kj1 signautre verification - T-Mobile Sidekick 4G

So i have been researching silently for the last 3 days... i followed all the directions to flashing the cwm with krylons fix and i ws going to download sdvukicks temp flash but kept giving me trojans lol.... or coming up as an exploit and being blocked via avast. so i guess i need pointed in the general direction of what exactly needs to be done and also it just give me an signature verification failed and i deleted my old recovery instead of makiing a back up first and i am rooted using superone click... any suggestions please...

Need Assistance Please

I tried searching and did not really find any answers that worked so I am asking for assistance.
I recently used Odin to move to 2.2 (/showthread.php?t=797282) and that went well. The only issue now is that I am trying to root, and cannot get that to work. I would like to use Cognition with all the nice tweaks.
I have tried to use the one click root /showthread.php?t=761751) which is what I used when I first got my captivate. Each time that I run this it gives me a error about a esignature failure and so it will not allow the fix to happen.
I then tried to use Odin 2.1 stock recovery (/showthread.php?t=731989) but I cannot get it to boot into the same recovery that I used to get it to 2.2. I hold the volume keys (up and down like before) and no pure recovery. I hold the volume+power and I get the option to reinstall as when I am rooting, and get the same errors.
I have tried to follow the directions here:/showthread.php?t=734163 to go back to stock, but I am sure that I am missing something.
I have tried removing the update.zip from the internal card (using Root Explorer) file from the device, rebooting, and then running the root attempt again.
I have Clockwork Rom Premium but cannot use it as it will not work without root.
I am at a loss, and would really appreciate the communities support. I am sorry if I missed something one searching, and feel free to point me to a thread I missed. I really just want to get the phone back to 2.1 and I can root and then put Cognition on it, or just 2.1 and I can root it and wait for ATT for the OTA to 2.2.
Thank you in advance for assistance.
ps.. sorry for the /showthread= links. System would not let me post full urls.
RESOLVED!
UPDATE:::
I was able to get the 2.1 stock Odin to work and now I am on 2.1 with Root again.
Just so you know, at the moment clockwork recovery doesnt work wit 2.2. If you wanted to get to clockwork while using a 2.2 rom you have to make sure the clockwork update.zip is on your sdcard then use odin to flash a 2.1 kernel. Kind of a pain but it works.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Just so you know the issue with using the update.zip or clockworkmod is the phone, when in 2.2, requires a signed update.zip; the old update.zip and the one that clockworkmod uses is not signed for 2.2; so you cannot root or modify with any of the update.zip methods. There is a longer process to root a 2.2, but if you are going to cog 2.2, you don't need to worry about it.

Can Not Root My Cappy

So I have been trying to root my phone. They sent me a new one after dropping mine and breaking it into a billion pieces.
I am running android 2.2 on my new phone and it has been updated to the fullest by AT&T. I have tried running the Update.zip but in recovery it is getting blocked. I get a error that says:
Code:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
I tried running it over and over but still get the same error.
I have also tried Z4Root but it just sits on the screen over night about trying to run some exploit that never ran.
I have tried running SuperOneClick but it just hangs during me trying to run it on installing Busy Box. * NOTE GOT THAT TO WORK!
but when trying to install ClockWork and reboot to recovery I still get the stock recovery and when I try to run a Update.zip that has the clockwork in it I get
Code:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
I have also tried running the AIO Captivate Software.
My last cappy was so much easier to root. Why am I running into so much trouble.

This is a known issue, Ive attached a link that will get you through this process. I too had this problem and followed these instructions to resolve it.

with 2.2 dont root like that~~! and what ^that guy said for after rooting too!

I had an issue with rooting in 2.2 as well, right around the time that 2.2 had first come out. I was trying to root so that I could get CWM properly installed, and a custom rom to replace the stock 2.2. What I ended up doing was using Odin 1 click to restore to 2.1 and flash the custom rom from there. It was, at that time, the easiest way for me.
Thank you all for the fast reply i will try some of those methods out and see what one works best. I have odin at the house. I have not used it once i do adb recovery download and it boots to with the lil android guy shoveling stuff how long does it normally take from there.

Looks like your trying to use the CWM from Rom Manager and tried using the Samsung Vibrant. Which our phone is not. Go to the Dev Section here and READ the thread posted by KRYLON360 titled "[ClockWorkMod] for the SGS4G Public Beta 3 [05/12/2011]"
That will get you to a working CWM.
I dunno why you need Astro File Manager. The Files app that came with the phone does the same thing.
Bloat Freezer. You can use Titanium Backup to do the same thing.
Stop making things hard for yourself. You don't need that many backup apps for your phone lol. I personally only use Titanium backup and CWM that was posted by Krylon360. If you ever mess up your phone any more you can always use Odin to go back to stock.

help on Rooting Samsung Repp - gb2.3.5

Greetings,
I'm trying to root a U Prepaid Samsung Repp (SCH-R680). This phone is reportedly a rebadged Samsung GIO sold to US Cellular.
The unit is running Android 2.3.5 and kernel 2.65.37
Z4root, SoC, and gingerbreak all fail.
And If i try using the updater with a Samsung GIO update file it fails at signature verification.
I attempted to update the zip file for the universal Gingerbread root ( by stoneboy tony) by adding SCH-R680 in the assertions:
Code:
getprop("ro.product.device") == "SCH-R680" ||
getprop("ro.build.product") == "SCH-R680" ||
but am still experiencing signature verification issues. I attempted to self sign using the signing.zip utility found here on XDA but apparently that is not sufficient when using the android update <3e> utility on the phone.
I'm fairly computer literate and have access to both windows and Linux machines so any tips on what to try next are appreciated. This has become an obsession and I "must" root this phone
You could try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582.
I'll take a look at it. I think that SoC uses the same zerg rush script but it is definitely worth a try.
Do you have any idea why I get the signature verification problems and how to work around that? It seems odd to me that a rooting method would only work on rooted devices

It's your bootloader/recovery (being stock/locked) which may be causing that problem (not the fact that you don't have root). The only way around that would be to use a custom recovery to flash the file (with signature verification turned off).

This idea sounds interesting but help me get my head around this (I'm a newbie to androids). In order to use a custom recovery to bypass the verification I would need to root the phone in order to install the recovery, correct?

No, your device does not need to be rooted to install a custom recovery. All you'd need is an unlocked bootloader.
thanks! It is starting to sink in now. I'll do some more research and look into installing an unlocked bootloader. You've been extremely helpful and I think you have probably pointed me in the direction I needed to go with this
Cheers!

Just for the record, this exploit does not work on Android 2.3.5 on Samsung devices. The script runs and the device reboots without being rooted.
Update:
Still no luck with this one. The new universal gingerbread root by StoneboyTony gives a whole file signature error. I'm at a loss as how to replace the bootloader with a custom recovery that doesn't do signature verification.
1) youd need to build a custom recovery for teh device and flash it using odin.
2) flashing any old recovery could cause bricks
3) best way to build one? getting root and getting the files off the device to build with
4) sorry i should have publicly posted it sooner, samsung repp is rooted :/ when i get the time ill upload the files etc

Looking forward to when you get a chance. I've tried several methods but this sucker is just not rooting for me. When I get a chance I'll try to manually root it over ADB but I think that my biggest issue is going to be that zerg rush may have been patched in this version of gingerbread so manually rooting it may not have any better results than the methods I've tried so far.
@shabbypenguin:
I found your thread dated august 2nd - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1812177 But it doesn't have a link for the rooted kernel. I'll subscribe and keep checking the thread to see if a new link shows up.
Awesome job and thank you.
