Looks like your trying to use the CWM from Rom Manager and tried using the Samsung Vibrant. Which our phone is not. Go to the Dev Section here and READ the thread posted by KRYLON360 titled "[ClockWorkMod] for the SGS4G Public Beta 3 [05/12/2011]"
That will get you to a working CWM.
I dunno why you need Astro File Manager. The Files app that came with the phone does the same thing.
Bloat Freezer. You can use Titanium Backup to do the same thing.
Stop making things hard for yourself. You don't need that many backup apps for your phone lol. I personally only use Titanium backup and CWM that was posted by Krylon360. If you ever mess up your phone any more you can always use Odin to go back to stock.

Incredible-S-Inc Alpha Rom Issue running on Dinc

I downloaded and installed the Incredible S Beta rom that is listed somewhere on this site for the Incredible. My issue is I want to revert to another ROM, HOWEVER, now my Superuser keeps force closing and will not allow ROM Manger to flash. I try to reboot in HBoot and ONLY get the start-up screen when doing Vol- and Power. Any suggestions on how to get into Hboot or another way to flash a different ROM when SuperUser will NOT allow permissions or Rom Manger wont reboot into Recovery (because superuser forecloses and wont let me flash Rom Manager
BTW-The Incredible S Rom works great...just NO pic/video (As it states in the description.)
Editing to take away some of the clutter (my clutter)
I am not sure what happened. As stated above once the ROM (which is great!) was installed, Rom Manager was no longer granted superuser access (was trying to reboot into recovery via Rom Manager). It wiped the Recovery Version from the phone and would not let me flash a new recovery. Everything else seemed to work fine (superuser permissions, ie. SetPC, etc.)
I tried plugging the phone in and reflashing Unrevoked directly to the phone. Unrevoked stated the root access was denied and asked if I had a "newer firmware".
I also tried uninstalling superuser (to only reinstall and see if it fixed the issue), however, Superuser was included in the ROM and would not let me uninstall.
The only way I was able to get back into Recovery was to re-run Unrevoked Flash and UNPLUG the phone when Unrevoked managed (somehow) to get the phone into bootloader. From there Clockwork ran fine.
Installed a different ROM and all is good.
The only thing I can think of is: In some post regarding the Incredible S being not branded to a certain carrier. When the ROM was installed, it showed "EVDO" in the notification bar (which leads me to believe it is for Sprint), I am not sure how THAT would affect anything being on a Verizon phone...again..only thing I can think of.
Just reboot the phone directly into recovery.

It wont let me. I dont think...I tried the Vol-+power...nothing..just reboots. Tried booting into recovery via Rom Manager, but since superuser no longer is granting persmission it wont even do that...is there another way to flash a different ROM?
I just tried reflashing Unrevoked directly to it...it failed to access boot, something about the firmware being too new...???
I dont know anything about your device but maybe your root is broken? Re root and re install superuser goodluck.

Oh, HTC Incredible.
I went into Rom Manager (and against ALL I have read) am trying to instal and reboot using Rom Manager...instead of going into recovery mode...phone is just sitting here "thinking" right now...nothing YET about being denied root access...fingers crossed...
OK, not sure this was SMART...Hooked phone back up to PC, ran Unrevoked flash kit again...unplugged phone once it came up in recovery...have access NOW to CLockwork...wiped data..installing different ROM as I type...hopefully this will work..
YAY...close call...sorry to waste everyones time..lol. So..If your installing the INcredible S Rom onto your incrediable..I have learned two things...1.) Unrevoked failed to push recovery due to the firmware...2.) you may lose superuser ability....
You would get more help if your thread title would actually be helpful.
Include your phone model, the rom you tried, and what happened (SuperUses FCs[forcecloses]).
Caps, lots of exclamation marks and a title like ZOMFG I NEED HELP, usually deters skilled people from threads like this.

[Q] How come i cant get Root access?

Ok so im a noob to this android thing, ive successfully rooted my phone twice with super one click and it worked perfect but as soon as i flashed my phone with "odin Ec10 with root+cw" it all went crazy. i could not get root access from any of my apps. So i used odin to flash it back to 2.1 and rooted it with super one click, bt when it sent the SU test i got nothing, i downloaded root checker and tested to see if i had it rooted but it gave me this:
Root acess is not properly configured or was not granted
SU binary not found in the system declared path.
Now i flashed 2.2 with odin and its still giving me the same thing. super one click is not doing its job and im stuck with an unrooted phone. i also tried restoring to factory settings and wiping cache but still nothing. maybe something messed up in the system folder or something idk, if you need more info ill answer anything, ill be active on the forum for a while.
Check and make sure USB Debugging is enabled in the phone's settings under Applications -> Development.
i tried that, still didnt work.
This may sound a bit stupid but have you tried rebooting the phone? I've flashed ROMs before where I wouldn't get SU access on the initial boot and had to reboot it to get it to start doing its thing.
ok i got it!!!! I guess SUper One Click only roots my phone when i start Super One click and wait for it to way "waiting for device" i turn on my phone, as the Samsung logo pops up S.O.C. starts rooting it Correctly. Finally after my 12th flash (lol) it works. thanks anyways guys. Hopefully no one else has this problem.
Strange, but hey, whatever works. Glad you got it fixed.
Evo 3D on Android 4.0.3, root fail
I had updated my HTC Evo 3D OTA from 2.3.3 to Android 4.0.3 software version 3.28.707.1 then unlocked it using HTC Method. Unlock success than I flashed recovery with CWM Shooter. Flash success but when I load recovery, the phone just boot up normally. CWM screen not loaded to load custom ROM.
When I open ROM Manager it says:
You must root your phone for ROM Manager to function. Superuser was not found at "/system/bin/su" or "/system/xbin/su". Use Google Search on your computer to find instruction to root your phone.
When I open SUperuser apps it says:
su binary not found
I already tried USB debugging mode, and flash with other .img with other version of CWM. Still not working.

[Q] g2x 2.3.3 rooting

1st my name is juan i am new here.
i already did the steps One-Click-G2x-recovery-flasher-09-06
and was able to Booting into ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.0
i download cyanogenmod 7 and try to run it but after everything is done
i get the cyanogenmod 7 reboot loop, also i was able to restore back to
the way i had it. i am a total noob at this, so i can use ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.0 does that mean i root my cell or not. i also download super user.
i tried to root my self since SuperOneClick v2.1.1 did not work for me since it always froze on step 6.i would love any help i can get to root my phone and be able to use apps such as Titanium Backup/super user or rom manger.
thanks for you time
Did you clear the Dalvik cache and do a factory reset? If not you will most likely get a reboot loop. You should format the system, user area and Dalvik cache any time you change roms, or the loop is likely. Try again but zap everything first. Good luck.
OK I did as you said it works fine now I have super user and rom manager working without it saying I need a rooted device. Now I am back to my default for the main reason that I didn't have my apps, android market, contacts and I could not connect to my T-Mobile network.I read I can use titanium backup for but I can't since it tells me I need a root my device. Anything I can do about this?
Should I installl the P999_2.3.3_Stock_OTA.zip I found on this forum would that give me root access sorry for the noon questions and thanks for helping me on this.
Sent from my LG-P999
If you install CM 7 it is already rooted. You an also install the pre-rooted OTA and it will be rooted. I suggest just starting over, logging into Google and reinstalling all your apps. I have had bad luck and near disasters trying to use Titanium backup to restore settings on other devices. It only takes about an hour to redo everything on Android.
i would like my phone to be rooted and not lose or have to reinstall everything i am still trying SuperOneClick v2.1.1 but i finally got pass step 6 and am now stuck on step 7 >,<

Super One Click doesn't work. Google closed the exploits that made it possible in new Gingerbread builds. I have been working on a way to do it without having to redo everything but so far it is not working. Hopefully soon. Will post something when and if I get it working.
thats to bad v,v i got to step 7 using this
if you are having the remounting failed problem then try doing this (credit to g0mezz http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=3995974) :
1. Download SuperOneClickv2.1.1-ShortFuse, after download extract the files into a folder with the same name as the archive.
2. Connect the phone to the PC with Debugging mode (Enter the phone settings menu, to the Development and tick the USB debugging mode)
3. (In Windows 7, but for Win XP you can use "Command prompt here" or similar) Go to the ADB folder inside the SuperOneClick folder, hold down shift and right click from the ADB folder, click on "Open command window here", than write:
adb devices (after this command you should see your device id)
adb shell
echo 1 > /data/local/lge_adb.conf,
Do not close the window, leave it like that.
4. Start SuperOneClick.exe, leave the settings to the SuperOneClick as they are when it opens, click on ROOT and wait, it will say Starting ADB server..., than it will do it's job and than it will appear Waiting for device... it will say ok and that if it freezes while running gingerbreak do the following:
a. Turn USB Debugging OFF wait until it will appear in the window again Starting ADB server..., after that,
b. Turn USB Debugging ON, and after this trick it will start rooting.
Disclaimer: YMMV, i tried this on a gingerbread P500 after trying every other option and failing, and finally rooted using this method.

2.3.3 doesnt have a root working thru one click u need to do the nvflashrecovery process and have the prerooted rom on your phone to flash after you get the recovery on your phone. So i'd start over get the rom you want dl it to your phone then follow the nvflashrecovery process. After its done acsess it and follow the steps on flashing the rom you downloaded. If the market doesnt let you download anything do this go settings-> manage apps-> click all apps-> scroll down to market-> wipe data. This should allow you to reinstall your apps
I already can root my.phone but I still don't want to lost my contacts or data which is why I went back to default instead of staying in weapon g2x mod.

Rooting my G2x (got CWM working already)
Hello everyone! Big time noob here, and was hoping to have some questions answered regarding rooting a G2x that came with Gingerbread (2.3.3) stock. I searched and read quite a few threads, which answered a lot, but a few questions still stuck out. Any help is very much appreciated!
My process so far was to start at this thread. That referred me to TGA_Gunnman's guide on flashing CWM (via Nvflasher) at this thread. That worked well, and I'm able to boot into CWM. So far so good, but here's where the questions come in.
In TGA_Gunnman's guide, there's a link saying to view the Getting Started Guide located at this thread. That Getting Started Guide links back to the "CWM via Nvflasher" guide, so I performed those steps as mentioned earlier (step 2.1 in the Getting Started Guide). Then it says to install ROM Manager (step 2.2) and so on to create backups. Hmm...
From the first thread I linked, and some other threads, it looks like once I have CWM bootable using the Power/Volume Down button method, I just need to clear data/caches and then flash the rooted ROM of my choice. Please chime in if this is incorrect (though from the replies in the thread, my understanding seems correct).
(Q1) Using this method, is there any way to perform an initial backup (Titanium, etc)? It doesn't seem like it, and I'd hate to lose all my apps and have to reinstall/configure, but it's not that big of a deal. (I did a Nandroid backup via CWM already, as detailed in step 4 of the Getting Started Guide.) I see some folks in this thread recommended just re-installing the apps, which is not out of the question. Just thought that if a backup/restore was possible, it might be worth a try.
(Q2) I have to ask: what ROM(s) do you recommend?
Thanks in advance for any help and information you can provide!
Oh I can help I just had the same problem OK you can do the following 1st make sure u have a SD card one big enough I have a 8gb next you can back up apps, contacts and settings using antivirus pro u can just Google the apk n install it.I didn't want to change much in my phone so I just download Gingerbread 2.3.3 rom
Then restore my apps then my contacts and such.
Stuff u need
Antivirus pro-for backup
Rom of ur choice
Androzip- to install apk if u dl antivirus pro apk
This is the rom I used
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179748
You may use whatever rom u want
Now 1st u use antivirus pro to back up apps and contacts then you can install your rom when done you can use androzip to explore your SD card and find the antivirus pro apk install then restore you apps and contacts sadly the apps lose all data so that means new game n such I hope this long explanation helped I just learned this today ..
Other roms

Yes that thread will do it. I outlined it very clearly. Step 1 install recovery and so on. Just read carefully and follow the steps.

[Q] I don't think my root worked!

Hey guys,
So today I decided to root my phone. I want to be able to use WiFi tethering without paying their ridiculous monthly fee, so I came here and read all I could about rooting my phone.
I downloaded the "Charge Kit V2" and proceeded with the instructions to install the "EE4stock_DXC.tar.md5" file to my phone. Everything worked as advertised and was completed in less than three minutes. I boot the phone, select the reboot option, and everything appears exactly as I left it.
Thinking I was rooted I downloaded the Android WiFi Tether app, but the thing won't work! So I go back to the FAQ and read that I could check to see if I were rooted by downloading a terminal emulator and typing "SU" into it. I did, and got "Permission Denied". I'm thinking this means I'm not rooted...
Am I rooted? If not, what did I do wrong? If so, why won't my WiFi tether work?
Thanks everyone!
ON edit: Just downloaded a root checker...apparently I'm not rooted. What could have gone wrong? Is the file I installed not rooted?

I don't think that package is rooted, or at least it didn't root you when flashed (which happens sometimes).. use odin to flash CWM, boot straight into it and flash the superuser apk, when you boot up update the superuser app in the market and update the binary, after that you'll be rooted no problems

Is there a good page with instructions on how to do this? I'm paranoid about bricking my phone and very new at this! Does the CWM load the same way the other.tar.md5 loaded?
What is a CWM?
Tried searching and didn't come up with much.
Thanks!

this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160580 is a pretty good info thread on how to flash and what everything is though it's a little dated and most of the roms/CWM files are older, everything else like drivers and Odin versions are fine... CWM is short for ClockWorkMod recovery and along with Odin is what we use to flash roms/kernels/etc. to our phones, and yes in Odin it goes in the same PDA spot as a rom and flashes like normal... however since you don't have a custom kernel to make CWM 'stick' in your system its one time use after you flash it in Odin and you will have to Odin flash it again every time you want to use it, making it perfect if all you want to do is simply root the phone
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
THANKS!!!
After tinkering with it a few times, as well as a scare with a failed flash and temporarily bricked phone, I got it to work! I'm now rooted and have successfully run the tethering app with no errors.

ok so i used this link to root my phone with king root http://techbeasts.com/root-galaxy-express-3-j120a/
Required downloads:
Download and install Samsung USB drivers
Download and extract Odin 3.11.1 on your computer’s desktop
Download boot image for your phone: ENG_BOOT_J120A_PG1
Download KingRoot and Super SUME APK files. Extract the folder and copy the APKs to your phone’s internal storage.
How to flash boot image to make the phone root-able
Open Odin.exe from the extracted Odin files you downloaded on your computer’s desktop.
In Odin, click the “AP” tab in Odin and select the ENG_BOOT_J120A_PC1.tar for your device that you just downloaded above.
The only options checked in Odin should be Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time. No other options should be ticked.
Now put your phone in download mode. Turn it off first. Now press and hold Volume Down + Home + Power buttons. As soon as it boots up, leave the keys. Once it shows warning, press Volume Up to continue.
Connect your phone to your PC while Odin is open.
Once your the ID:COM box turns blue in Odin after the successful connection, click the Start button.
It will flash the boot image file and reboot the phone now.
Install Kingroot
Now on your phone, go to settings > security > allow unknown sources.
Open a file manager and locate the copied Kingroot APK file.
Tap the Kingroot APK file and install it.
Once installed, open Kingroot from the app drawer.
Tap the Android Icon on the screen shown in Kingroot or if it’s already processing, let it do that.
Kingroot will start finding an exploit to root your device now. As soon as it finds an exploit, it will root and reboot your device.
Replace King User with SuperSU
Install Super SUME APK just the way you installed Kingroot.
Open Super SUME from the App Drawer now.
Follow the instructions on-screen to finish the Super SUME procedure.
Super SUME will begin to uninstall Kingroot in favour of SuperSU now.
After uninstalling KingRoot it will install SuperSU.
SuperSU will appear in app drawer after installion. That’s all.
NOTE: sometimes when u flash the ENG_BOOT_J120A_PG1 file to get root with king root it wont work try rebooting trying again or flashing file again with odin i had to flash 3 times in some cases.
READ ALL BEFORE TRYING ROOT IMPORTANT!
and after i got king root to root my phone through this method i had to downlaod a different copy of supersu me pro from i think this link https://apkpure.com/super-sume/darkslide.com.supersume if its not the right one then just google a pro copy apk but yea so once super user is done with king root and u have a copy of supersu me pro that works just run it u may have to do it a few times and it may act funny or seem to pause half way through the root process but if it dose (like it did on mine) just have supersu app installed and run it while supersu me pro is running and it should install sucessfully keep trying till it dose thats what i did oh btw when u get super user with king root download link to sd and freeze all these apps ok (scrole down)

and now i have supersu and viper4android NOTE: be sure to have installed bussybox before trying to install viper its needed i got my bussybox from fdroid.
also if u want to get xposed modules working download an app called flashfire i think 0.53 is the latest once u have root with supersu and download and install xposed framework wanam 20161128 and flash the zip with flash fire and a side note the newest copy of gltools also works with driver support i havent had a single problem with gltools. if ur system ui crashes after boot eather keep rebooting untill it stops crashing or unsinstall an app u may think caused the issue or unfreeze an app that may be causeing it dont freeze apps unless u think its safe do it at ur own risk and freeze only apps i have found to be frozen with little to no problems. as far as xposed modules go lucky patcher installs but dosent work right due to not being on a custom rom and device id changer free works fine and xinternal sd works great and xprivacy works great and android n ify works great also gravity box for 6.0 marshmallow works fine but i only used it to make volume buttons switch tracks and for a battery bar i recomend not useing it for anything else as it has caused my phone to freeze and crash and bootloop so if u want a battery bar and to change tracks on lock screen use gravity box if u dont need those things then dont use it at all or at ur own risk.
so now u have viper and xposed and supersu enjoy it has been a pain in my ass for a long time so have fun. NOTE: there is no custom recovery for this phone sometimes when u flash these files the phone will bootloop but TRUST ME if it boot loops take the battery out and turn it back on untill it turns on sometimes doing this will force the phone to clear dalvic catch i think because it upgrades all the android apps again so keep removing the battery if it dosent work after about 20 tries the reflash ur stock rom with odin just download a stock rom from google for this device and flash all files ap=ap etc... hope this all helps
Thanks for the reply back! I had originally followed those directions from that site and it didn't work the first time. I kept trying different versions of Kingroot and Super SU ME with no luck, then I decided to try Kingroot 4.1 and a zip file that when extracted and ran from terminal is supposed to replace Kingroot with Super SU. It only partially worked that being when an app asked for root it was Super SU asking the permissions. I thought I was in the clear then so I tried to let the Super SU app update the binary, but it failed. So I downloaded Flashfire and flashed Super SU zip and it worked and I thought I was hot sh*t until it rebooted lol. When it rebooted it gave me the "Unauthorized software found on this device. Please take it to an ATT dealer blah blah blah". So I downloaded factory firmware and tried again only this time before I used Flashfire to flash the Super SU zip I went and deleted all the Knox crap and most of the other stuff in your list above and it worked that time lol. I already have Xposed and a bunch of other root apps on there working pretty well so far. It's a neat little phone for a cheapy. I have an S6 as a daily driver but I like toying with the Galaxy Express 3 when I can. My driving reason behind wanting to root it is because the Wi-Fi chip inside is a brcm43438 which supports monitor mode, sorta. The Raspberry Pi 3 has the same chip and can be used with pentesting tools and since it runs on android also, I hoped to find a way to port the patched firmware to this phone. But for now it gives me something else to tinker with lol. Thanks again for the long reply, I know someone out there can maybe use our methods or a combination thereof to get this phone rooted when it wants to be difficult!

Oh and if anyone has to end up flashing factory firmware, don't get the firmware ending in PJ2, it didn't allow the special bootloader file to flash. I had to download the firmware ending in PC2 for it to work. Just an fyi!

Yea, you're going to find people like that anywhere you go. Don't let it discourage you from this place. Yes, searching first is one of the rules, but sometimes you just can't find what you are looking for! There are a lot of great and very knowledgeable folks on this site. It's where I come to look up pretty much anything I can't figure out on my own. And I come to contribute when I can.

Dead links
Great write up! dead links and a ? about J120AUCS3AQE1
Hi and thanks for the great write up, very clear. My device is a SM-J120A that sports the AT&T logo upon boot.
Have you or any one tried this method with the OTA update that [I think AT&T] pushed on May 1, '17 labeled J120AUCS3AQE1. I have soft bricked device several times trying to use PJ2 and cant find PC2 [above posted links do not work]. One other thing about the AQE1 update I was only able to get it to install by 25%, my Baseband version changed to J120AUCS3AQE1, but the security patch level has remained at Oct. 1 '16 anf the Build number is at MMB29K.J120AUCU2APJ2. Not sure what is up w/that! If any one has a link to the full "4 file" zip of J120AUCS3AQE1 I would greatly appreciate it.
Root successful...........but
I was able to root with firmware version J120AUCS3AQE1 but because mine is an AT&T phone the bootloader is "locked and signed" meaning it's never going to unlock........? I have the latest version of firmware that came out in may 2017 and it will be available to you as soon as I can post an outside web address............ Every Recovery image that I flashed caused everything to fail and a big triangle that said AT&T detected software on your device that is not allowed on our device so I guess this one is never really your own........ but you can Root with Kingroot and supersume pro to get rid of bloatware and such but other than that no custom stuff on this one.
If Kingroot keeps freezing just restart phone and keep trying it took me a long while to obtain root.
Thanks for the Rooting Guide. I found an img file online for a TWRP Recovery for Samsung Galaxy J1, but with the same Build Number (SM - J120A).
1. Should I trust it?
2. If not, is there an exploit for it already?
Really hope someone can help me. Also, Is anyone else loosing wifi connection constantly after rooting?
Cheers,
Express 3 user
Anybody can you please send stock TouchWiz here???
I really need this APK....
NEED HELP!! i made a lot of progress but simple mistakes have me stuck..
I need some help from youi guys, idk igf im just missing something or thinking too much but im stuck somewhere simple because of a silly mistake.... lol -- heres the bkgrnd story: after using the ENG_BOOT and kingroot, i was unable to get supersume to work. in my quest to do so, I ended up with xposed framework installed and working as well as some more apps n tools... well anyway==here's the curveball (#1 - lol) - i edited some fields in buildprop and applied some tweaks - i did an original backup but was unable to find it.. due to the words and windows on my screen being resized (smaller windows larger text, unable to see entire text field and unable to move within individual framed windows li(ke on microsofts launcher homescreen) - so i edited buildprop one more time.... i changed the density and it zoomed in further - double bad move. heres the next one lol - upon reboot into custom android recovery from eng boot - i accidentally wiped/reset phone instead of the dang cache partition. so - now - it reboots, to the WELCOME! ^(language select, accessibility select) START screeb for first time setup. i cannot for the life of me get it to move a window or hope to select AGREE since its "rendered offscreen" on the terms and conditions. unable to use adb, unable to update from ext storage per recovery's settings apparently..
i am however able to use serial com connection and terminal (on bbqlinux) to do a few things and even remotely open shell - idk what i did to buildprop to fubar my screen render, and even after mounting system in recovery i have not been able to push/pull buildprop or edit again, nor usual adb - im frustrated and stopped finally because i know im missing something simple as hell.. #2 ready for the knuckleball? i was able to get TWRP to flash successfully to my phone with ODIN by clicking AP and using nand erase all, repartition and f, reset time - rebooted phone into recovery and its still the eng_boot one. so i cleared cache part mounted system rebooted, then off and reboot to recovery --still no TWRP either.
i would love a copy of a good buildprop file compatible with the engboot and a little help with the buildprop replacement in the given situation lol, TWRP would be a plus - i greatly appreciate your time and help guys and i apologize if i have posted in the wrong thread or something else that is uncooth - its my very first post but im a long time reader and follower as well as an intermediate developer., thank you for your time everyone. this thread is regarding sansung sm-j120a ud with the engboot build. att go phone, no frp lock, secure download is enabled in download mode tho.. -- usb connection to win 8.1 with android studio poison kitchen etc etc - also have bbq linux
