You have two choises:
You look on your card. There should be a little number in a circle. This is the class specified by the company (if this is true is another question)
You use a very good sd card reader so that it will not lower the transmission rates of the card and measure the speed. The up and down transmission speed specifies the class:
Class 2: 16 Mbit/s (2 MB/s)
Class 4: 32 Mbit/s (4 MB/s)
Class 6: 48 Mbit/s (6 MB/s)
Class 10: 80 Mbit/s (10 MB/s)

im using class 4 8gig and the transfer rate is above average and im happy
so if yr happy no probs ,

i get minimum of 5-6 mbps.

For 8 gig card a class 4 is suffice, but for 16 gig, 32 gig class 6 or 10 works best as it needs high speeds for data read/write! Hope its clear enof! :what:

[Q] What Kind of SD card did yours come with?

I purchased a Black and Plum MyTouch 4g yesterday for myself and my wife. Now today I was doing some file transfers and SD card switches because there's files and pictures on our other android phones we would like on our MyTouch's. I pulled the SD card from the Black one and it was a Class 2 Samsung which I thought was odd. So I then decided to pull the SD from the Plum one and that was a Sandisk Class 4 card which makes sense. I feel as if some one cheated out the better SDcard at the store
Mine came with a sandisk 4, but another one came with a samsung 2. Strange

Hmm, mine came with an 8GB Samsung Class 2. Me no happy now that you mentioned it . But I haven't noticed any real delay...anyone know the R/W speed difference between Class 2 and 4? I have a Class 6 16GB card which made a very big difference on my N1.

Well in theory class 2 sd card means 2 mb sec transfer rate, class 4 means 4mb, class 6, 6mb etc etc... Anyways diffrent brands have different read/write speeds and sometimes those speeds don't live up to the class stamped on them.

It's for minimum transfer rate. Most do a lot better then that. Just bench it and see what you get.

class 4 sandisk card here on my black version.
I have a 16gb class 6 in another device. Going to swap it out with this one's 8 gb (if I decide to keep it and let N1 go - not an easy decision).

8G Inspire SD vs. 16G HD2 SD

Is there any difference in the read/write speeds of these two cards? Since I'm only using about 4G of the SD card on my HD2 (part of which is for the system ROM to run DL's DesireZ port) I think it makes sense to use the faster of the two cards in my new Inspire, but I'd go with the HD2 16G card if they're the same just to give me the extra room if I ever need it.
Look on the SD card for a number with a half circle around it. This is the speed of the card. For everything except moving apps to SD a class 2 is fine. Class 6 is what I have and I have no issues with slowness.

I agree with Gunnyman. Look at the class of the SD first, then choose accordingly. I would recommend a class 6 or higher if you can, and a class 4 minimum. Class 6 and 8 seem to be the sweet spot for people wanting to buy a new card without breaking the bank, and are perfect speeds for doing anything on the mobile device.
Where would most of the speed increases come from anyway? I have a Nexus 1 and it pretty much has to have a micro SD card in it; I move as many apps as I can to it and everything runs pretty fast now.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I have a class 6 8G that came with my Inspire, as compared to the class 2 16G that came with the HD2. So I guess I'll stick with the 8G.

Same here, so I just use the 16gb from my HD2
Mine came with a 8GB Class 4, I then put in a 16Gb class 4, and it worked great and then found a great deal on a SanDisk 32Gb class 4 and that is what I have in the phone and it works great.

(Q) I have a 32 GB microSD card Samsung class 10, but my skyrocket and PC only sees or recognizes 29GB. Is this normal? Does someone knows as to why this is happening?? I mean is almost 3GB lost space right...

yes this is normal it holds some file on the card needed for partitions ect but its normal
yes its normal i also see 29.71GB
I thought the 32gb in the name counts 1000 mb in a gb whereas the computer counts 1024mb in a gb or something so they make seem like you're getting more than what it actually is...
Same for hard drives for your computers as well
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
All memory devices have to reserve space for tables... like for holding filenames and pointers to the first sector of each file...
It's both reasons combined (100vs 1024 and the space used by the drive mapping)

I agree that Class 6 is sufficient.
But keep in mind that read/write speed increases with classification (duh). And just like some of us overclock our CPU's even though 1.5ghz is sufficient, we do it because we can.
Also, class 6 are harder to find than class 10 for some reason.
Same here
But when they say 32 GB i feel they must make 32 GB available after checking in computer. What say dudes ? I'm going to fire an email to Sandisk.

have you formatted the memory when you first put it in your device? try to backup your files and format it again then restore your files, if there is no difference in speed, go for class 8 or 10, but a class 4 is fast enough. make sure you unmount your memory properly
Lol class10... here in Brasil it would be soooo expensive. Using class4 32gb
