Literally?
It literally sucks balls? And you're complaining??
How much do i have to pay for a phone to give me some mouth lovin?
On a serious note, I've always used I9000 firmware on my captivate, and remember, cm7, miui, and all ics roms use I9000 reoriented kernels and modems, so they also don't have audience chip support. Call quality pretty much the same as I897 stuff for me, with the added bonus of hsupa.

Just waiting for it to drop cause I'm getting it, skipping s2. Hoping it drops by June though.

Been going without audience support for almost a year now, sure not as good a stock i897 quality but not bad either. I think I could live with the skyrockets non audience chip

from what i gather is that they wil be releasin the S3 along the olympics , as a spl edition and since Samsung is the official sponsor , it will be big event...

Not so bad really. Well not for me anyway. I just see it as a little more time to play with ICS on the Cappy. If you consider how far the devs have been able to push this thing, it's impressive and not dead yet.
Hard to wait for new toys though.

S4! S4!
any phone with big AMOLED and S4 CPU would be nice.
For me it's Galaxy Note on expensive side and Pantech Burst on cheap side.

S3
Yes S3 looks sweet and I'm hearing July but lets hope earlier. Also the Skyrocket HD will be out soon, better then the original.

I may just have to wait a little longer for this to drop then.
I can finally get a new phone now, but I'm waiting for something new and sweet to drop.

I'm going to guess that samsung won't name their next flagship device with an S or galaxy. Its probably going to run under HSPA+, since LTE is still in its early ages and the same 1800mah battery from sgs2. I hope they will include virtual onscreen buttons and a newer touchwiz optimized for virtual onscreen buttons as well.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA

Those predictions are unfounded, and make no sense:
Galaxy S is a HUGE brand name, why would they abandon it?
And why not include lte, that's not the ONLY connection available when the phone is equipped with lte hardware, so to limit it would be a dumb business strategy.

My reason for the different brand name:
There are a lot of samsung devices with "galaxy" on them already. So transition to a new series would be perfect at this point. Besides, we don't want it to end up like evo and droid series. Too many of the same titles, and rather confusing.
As for LTE:
Only because it's still on premature stages outside of US. Samsung prioritizes Europe, Asia, and Australia (as you can see by who gets updates first) so I wouldn't be surprised if it's on HSPA+ OR! The US variants will have LTE with a snapdragon processor.

Galaxy S series only have 2 phones which is Galaxy S and then Galaxy S2/Galaxy S2 LTE (or Skyrocket in US)...so your reasoning is wrong...
All the other devices only use galaxy..they don't use S with galaxy...every company wants to brand their flagship devices like Sony does with Xperia and LG does with optimus.
Also Droid/My Touch are carrier's names not Manufacturers name...Verizon likes to add droid on all their android phones..so does T Mobile
The reason why Europe, Asia, and Australia get updates first is that they don't have carrier's in between to deal with. In US (and Canada), Carriers controls the future updates along with the manufacturers....even if Samsung provides the updates, ATT needs to approve it too..That's why same series phones (same company) on different carriers gets updates at different times...
As the poster above you said, it would be stupid to release a phone without LTE, when every company around the world is trying to launch it..

Compared to motorola and htc, samsung is better at marketing execution despite of the update delays. And I think it's proper to end it with galaxy s 2 because were heading towards android 4.0-4 etc., which has some differences in its look and feel from froyo and gingerbread.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA

Well not all. Many cities around the globe dont have LTE yet. And take sony for example, with xperia ion and xperia S. Both successors of arc, both same processor, but xperia s for europe is only hspa+ whereas ion is LTE. My guess is samsung will go on the safe side to launch with hspa+ in order to keep their devices somewhat 'together' (sorry if I didnt make sense lol). But I do understand why it would be a let down with no LTE
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA

atleast we know that US version of SG3 will have LTE, irrespective of the carrier, as all the major carriers in US already have LTE or working to get it..

^ There's a possibility samsung will head to that direction too. HSPA+ international, LTE US domestic. Lol with ours and other people's analysis, it looks like samsung is the "Apple" for Android kinda

Release In August

[/B]Samsung is preparing to release the Galaxy S2 at last! We give you the latest on the Attain, Within, Function and Hercules inside.
Shin Jong-kyun, President of Samsung Mobile Business and Digital Imaging, told a Korean newspaper this week that the Galaxy S2 will be launched in the U.S. market sometime in August. While Samsung has released several new Android smartphones in recent months, such as the Droid Charge for Verizon and Infuse 4G for AT&T, the new flagship we've all been waiting has only appeared in leaks and rumors. The Galaxy S2 is by far the most feature-rich smartphone Samsung has come up with to date, and is expected to be available on several carriers.
Samsung Attain for AT&T
Ever since the Samsung Attain appeared on Samsung's official Facebook page in early June, it's basically just been a matter of time before we would see an official release. Last year's Captivate shined like a true star a year ago, and the Attain is expected to be a worthy successor. TouchWIZ 4 atop Android 2.3 Gingerbread is the name of the game for the Attain, coupled with a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, 4G HSPA+ connectivity, dual-core processor and 1GB RAM. In other words, it'll pretty much challenge the ATRIX 4G by Motorola directly, and could eventually give the iPhone 5 a hard time.
Samsung Within for Sprint
A hands-on photo of what is expected to be the Samsung Within for Sprint appeared only a few days ago. This version is specifically said to offer Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread, the recently released version that enables Google Talk video chats via Sprint's 4G network. The Within is also expected to offer integrated Google Voice and Google Wallet services. Like the Attain, it's also expected to offer a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, 8-megapixel rear-facing and 2-megapixel front-facing cameras, as well as being packed with power under the hood in true Galaxy S2-grade style.
Samsung Function for Verizon
When Verizon introduced the Fascinate last fall, it instantly became a top-seller courtesy of its social networking focus. The follow-up, the Continuum, took the concept even further. However, the upcoming Samsung Function is expected to not only embrace the social networking crowd, but also business users. The Function has been equipped with Stealth MMXI technology, and is expected to take on the Droid Bionic in the "über-smartphone with 4G LTE connectivity" category this fall. Who the heck needs the 3G-only Verizon iPhone 5, anyway.
Samsung Hercules for T-Mobile
The Samsung Vibrant ruled T-Mobile's HSPA network last year, and the Samsung Hercules aims to rule the carrier's HSPA+ network this year, promising theoretical speeds of 42Mbps downlink and 6 Mbps uplink. While details of the Hercules are scarce, TmoNews recently reported that it is slated for release in late September. We imagine that's also when the above-mentioned Function for Verizon will appear, as they'll probably not all be released simultaneously. Interestingly, TmoNews has heard that it may get a 4.5-inch screen as opposed to the 4.3-inch screen found in the original Galaxy S2.
Im ready now.
It's about time we get this Beautiful Beast. I will be getting this and the Hercules when it's released in September.
I will eagerly await to see what the Great Developers come up with for these. I may even toss in a few requests after I see what they can and can not do.
WooHoo
That makes 2 of us LOL, I been waiting (it seems forever), for this monster too. I still have a few friends at AT&T. (used to work there), and one is a manager at store, so maybe get in on first batch hehe. good luck !

My birthday is also in August, but I'm in the middle of a contract right now, so I highly doubt I'll be picking up the Attain anytime soon. I still love my Captivate, even if the battery life kinda sucks on any ROM but completely stock.
Excited for rogers to release something to rival the sgs2 for me to warrant me to get rid of my cappy.
If sgs II came out in june-july i would have already bought it
However im just gonna wait for android 4.0. now. Captivate is still a decent phone

My two cappys are GREAT PHONES. One with CM7 perfection and the other with either the i897 Gingerbread or right now Apex 8.2 and I Love them Both. The ONLY phone I will TRADE UP for is the SGS2. I just tested my cappy cm7 against the Atrix 4G yesterday at the ATT store and my cappy was faster using speedtest than the atrix 4g side by side. Just barely beat it in upload and download speeds but it DID. So to me the SGS2 should BLOW it away. I also found out that I available for my next upgrade on August 31st. So HOPEFULLY lime my Cappy's 1007 builds it will be the second builds without the issues of the first builds

I can't wait. I love my Captivate with Pheonix unleashed, but the Galaxy S II is the ultimate sounding phone. I would actually use the HDMI out alot, the front cam not so much.

my birthday is in august as well. august ftw!
I wouldn't dream of being one of the first in line for one. After the horrible initial release and ensuing support from Samsung on the Galaxy S they have a long way to go to prove to me I should "upgrade". They obviously do not care if they rush out flawed hardware and when they do there is absolutely no effort to make things work properly. I'm mainly talking about the GPS issues but others as well. If I am buying into a device that is supposed to showcase a "location aware" OS then I sure would like it if my device had some clue where I was at. It doesn't even get the state I'm in correct a lot of the time, if it tells me where I'm at at all! I'm eligible for an upgrade in 2 months and my wife's HTC Inspire seems to be fairly dependable. I know for one thing the speed sure makes my Captivate look like decades old technology. If Samsung had shown any loyalty to us early Galaxy owners then I might feel a little loyalty back. Since they care about the almighty dollar more than they care about the customer then I will respond likewise. If HTC, which I've had HUGE success with in the past, offers me a good deal I'll happily jump ship from Samsung.
Yea it's going to be extremely hard for me to buy another carrier branded handset. Unlocked is the way to go. Glad they are finally getting the SGS2 out in the US though.

Buy a phone on contract (iPhone is good for this purpose) and sell it full price then buy the phone you want.
Support issues become fishy though.
I certainly hope they fixed the gps on the new release. I have been majorly disappointed in the gps functionality of the captivate.

Yea. I'd be worried about that because I have insurance on my phone and use at least once or twice during a phones contract period due to my carelessness. Although I think they might still honor a insurance claim, I'm almost sure they won't do a warranty claim from those circumstances.

Loving my cappy still, but wish it had a forward facing camera and a flash. The GPS is better than it used to be due to some tweaks here and there. I also just installed the Telenav free version for the vibrant 4g and going to give it a jog this week on a road trip to see how it does.
Apex 8.2 w/Dark Core 2.9 & Tegrak OC to 1.2ghz
Wait for it
Sell your cappy off ebay, buy SGSII. 700-200=+500. Get ready to cough up some ca$h.
I'll be getting it for sure. I currently have the captivate, infuse and inspire, I bought the inspire off craigslist for $200 and gave it to my gf. Her upgrade is up in August so she'll probably buy the gs2 and ill see captivate and inspire for $500 I hope and pick up the galaxy.

ATT launching LTE Samsung Galaxy S II

Looks like we'll be loosing some more Captivate users next week. Between these two phones it's going to be a tough call on which one to pick up.

Well, it put more refurbed s2's out there. Makes it better if you have an upgrade coming up.

I live in San Antonio, we've got LTE here. Oh wait.....this might actually be Mars.
Anyone heard what the chipset is on the Vivid yet? While the 1.5 GHz Exynos is appealing; I don't think I can take it being on a Samsung phone anymore. I'm thinking I'd rather have the 1.2 GHz Vivid so I can jump to HTC.
Dude it's not worth upgrading to either of those phones right now. Your best bet is to stick to this Galaxy S II, and wait for the Galaxy S III in February. Do remember that the first LTE phones will most likely have bad battery life.
Isure wish it was the Galaxy S II HD LTE instead. Same specs but with the 4.65 display instead.

I'm in very much the same boat as you; although the mod community can make the Captivate better than crap, one's got to admit that staying on Samsung stock would be 100% unbearable.
On the other hand, my close friend has an Inspire 4G, which I have borrowed for an extended period of time now; that's been a dream to use, be it Sense 2 or Sense 3.

Don't forget that these are not the first LTE phones anymore... Verizon has released plenty of them from the same manufacturers, and these are almost a full hardware "generation" removed from the Thunderbolt Desire HD and the Droid Charge already.

If upgrading right now, why get the SGSII instead of a Skyrocket or Vivid?
I'm debating which as well. I'm just worried about the SGSII dev support being split between the two (if hardware is different) or there not being much dev support over with the Vivid.
For myself, my phone is a benefit from my work. Which means I should probably stay on the stock ROM since they are paying for it. Not only that, but if something goes wrong during a flash and I mess up my phone I'll be in some trouble at work. Since that leaves me on Samsung's horrible upgrade cycle I'm very inclined to jump ship.
Even though these are new LTE phones for ATT I still believe it's worth it to consider them over the non LTE SGSII. If I'm going to be stuck with a phone for 2 years I would rather have LTE. Since I live in a LTE market it's even more of a draw. If anything, considering the HTC just to get away from Samsung.
Wouldn't be a bad idea to wait a month and see what the reviews are from other XDA members. If the battery life is completely horrible maybe just wait it out. Also my wife is due an update in December. If I do jump and don't like it I could always hand her down whatever I get and pick up something new when we renew her contract.
Regular SGS II is better.

Stay or Go with the SkyRocket lack of Dev Support

So here we are approaching the 30 day window for returns with ATT.
I previously had a ATT Galaxy 2 and returned it for the SkyRocket because I am in an LTE area. Well I love the LTE Speeds but I have some negatives with the SR and would like some input not flames.
Concerns:
1. Processor is not as fast as the Exynos and the benchmarks support the statement. As a result video's can get choppy.
2. Kernel Development is limited and moving slow.
3. ROM Development is limited and moving slow.
I could live with issue 1 since I think with development 2 and 3 will be resolved.
I am not taking potshots at the development members. I personally have made donations to several members in hopes of stimulating the development and I appreciate all that has been done but it's not moving very well. Each and every ROM has issues whether its MMS or LTE Support or SoD on the kernel development.
So do I stay or go? What are your thoughts are you staying or going?
Does anyone see any solid development on the horizon?
Overall I believe the device is not being adopted a a high enough rate and this is definitely caused by Samsung segmenting the market by morphing this device to each and every carrier. Which has hindered the development efforts for each of these mutated devices.
Thanks for your thoughts.

i would agree, but the note is not LTE ready if you buy it overseas so you can keep it. once it hits the US with LTE i will buy it and will not look back.
for now i am very happy with the rocket, i dont notice this lag in videos or ****rocket talk. i had the sgs2 for a week and was not blown away buy any means in the comparison. do what you will - ITS YOUR phone and you have to live with it. i plan on upgrading to either the nexus if it hits or the Note once it hits anyway so the rocket is just a short stop for 4 months or so till one of thoes drops anyway.

The "Galaxy Nexus".
Not the Nexus One or the Nexus S. I ordered it from Expansys-usa should be here sometime this week. Nexus Prime was just a name they used when the phone was being developed. Cost me $729.99 with a -$20 coupon code for the site. The no SD card thing kinda bummed me out and thats originally why I bought the SR over it but after using google music during beta and now that its out and free. I have realized that 16gb will be enough storage for me since I can stream all of my music through google music. The SR was nice but I really want that stock android experience and not to have to wait for updates from AT&T or samsung. I got burnt out on waiting when using the Infuse. How many times did AT&T promise Gingerbread for the infuse...

Skyrocket is a nice device and we'll start seeing roms for it soon. Just give it a month or so.

I think so too, if all I was worried about was ROMs I would of kept my Nexus S but I love the LTE speeds......
I can wait,
Yeah LTE speeds are nice. But where I live there is no LTE. So The Galaxy Nexus was the right choice for me. Don't get me wrong the SR was a very nice device but I think i'm gonna like my Nexus better.

i would agree, but the note is not LTE ready if you buy it overseas so you can keep it. once it hits the US with LTE i will buy it and will not look back.
for now i am very happy with the rocket, i dont notice this lag in videos or ****rocket talk. i had the sgs2 for a week and was not blown away buy any means in the comparison. do what you will - ITS YOUR phone and you have to live with it. i plan on upgrading to either the nexus if it hits or the Note once it hits anyway so the rocket is just a short stop for 4 months or so till one of thoes drops anyway.

Exactly..I tried the SGS2 orig because of this Exynos talk..well it was slower than the Skyrocket. In terms of ROM, I have it working complete with 14 toggle mod, camera hack to use power button to click, 3200-3500+ quadrant (if it means anything really) without any special kernels no overclocking etc, no random reboots, no locks to freeze and take out battery etc., NO! SODs, no video lags (whatever folks talk of..have downloaded many videos and play them directly), no MMS issue at all !...Vis Voicemail etc all work..even modified the dialer so that have the Tmob type dialer with extra button for voicemail along side the button for the phone on one side and the messaging button on the other side.
only miss in-dialer video chat (3G direct..not talking of Google talk) that is there in I9000 (orig SGS not SGS2) ROMs and the Infuse (modified dialer there too for direct video chat)..the ROM for the Sky and the T989 do not support this (maybe trying to move folks to Google Talk..do not need that)..neither does the orig
SGS2 anyway
Even have a TMob rom set up for this device with all the above except Vis Vmail..even fixed in-call volume using I727 library files..
wonder what folks are complaining about..do not care 4G LTE all that stuff..it is fast no matter what..
however .lost 70$ because of this Exynos nonsense (in my opinion)..35 restocking fee to return and 35 to change from Sky to org SGS2 back to Sky..my loss the hard way.
I am not sure why everyone is freaking out on throttling. The SR is a nice device and I have seen no problems with the chipset other than some graphics like the default homescreen image and the boot image being slower than normal. This is no different than when new GPUs come out and all the benchmark apps and drivers have to be updated/optimized for the new hardware. Throttling only comes into play IF you are on an UNLIMITED data plan and you hit the top 5% of all other users on an unlimited data plan. For me around here, the throttling SMS came in last month at at about 6.5GB of usage but I never was throttled after using about another 1GB.
The SR is a nice device that I plan on sticking with until the quads hit.
My only complaint with Samsung in general is their damn bootloader code. But then again the laughs will be on those GS II owners as well once they update. hehehe. That would be a mute point if carriers listened to customers and actually gave them what they want or actually use vs. trying to force things down our throats. In my opinion custom ROMs beat carrier ROMs for one main reason - flexibility. Those authors usually remove the crapola and add back features the carriers like to remove.
Ill never return mine unless it breaks. Phone is too nice

Personally, I find spending $749 vs. $0.01 for something very marginal a little over the top, to be honest. In fact, I would not even consider getting a phone locked to 3G speeds even a marginal gain considering that it does not have any storage expansion. I would regard this as a downgrade. But different strokes for different folks, I guess. Yes, it runs ICS but the Skyrocket would be running this in a few months. In addition, as this is not a phone supported by a major carrier, it would not sell into millions and it would not create the accessory and development support that carrier phones would definitely have.
Now, regarding Android 4.0 vs 2.6.6. ICS is nice but not that nice. It really would not affect much of the functionality of the phone. What does one want to do that cannot be accomplished well in 2.6.6? I cannot think of much. Wow, now you would get to customize the bottom row of the icons and have resizeable gadgets and few more goodies. You would be bored with this in a day or two. Not worth the hassle. I simply concentrate on the functionality that I need.
Now, what I need is good OS-based voice dialing. That is not available even on ICS.

Will this phone gain popularity among developers?

My dad (a fellow geek) saw that I was struggling with my Infuse because it has little official support from the big-name teams. Basically, we found that if I wanted to use MIUI or CM7, I would have to use a port that didn't really work that well, and I'm looking for the best MIUI experience possible.
He came home today and surprised me with a Skyrocket, but the more we read, the more we found out that this isn't a widely-supported phone either.
With that said, I live in a big city, so I'll probably get LTE eventually. Should I stick with this phone and hope that the MIUI team picks up the Skyrocket, or should I go trade it in for an AT&T SGS2?
The sgs2 has a huge development community but the skyrocket is a far better device especially with Lte. I decided to stay with the skyrocket and have noticed that we are picking up some steam it prob will never be as big as the sgs2 but i think it will be more than enough to satisfy any user

This phone has quickly gained developer support. Its still very new. And our dev community will only continue to grow. Theres alot of development going on check out the dev section. And dont worry we wil get ics. And we have a great bunch of guys on our forum that help eachother out. With out bad attitudes. Be happy you have the best device available in this country.
Also I think I know of somebody that might be working on a MIUI port for out lovely skyrocket, and he's no joke either. The skyrocket is gaining momentum quickly. I would not be worried. The device is still young. And its basically replaced the OG S2 on att. Your pops is a smart man.

Worry not fellow SGSII owner (I have the sprint flavored one). There's a bunch of reasons why development on this phone is going to, pun squarely intended, Skyrocket. Here's a couple:
1. the SGS II is THE best phone out period. If they'd given the Galaxy Nexus an Exynos processor, I couldn't say that but the Sprint, At&T and international SGS II have the Exynos which means our phones are the best hardware wise. Developers like sexy hardware. Don't need 8 mods to make it lag free, it's already lag free, so they can just have fun with it.
2. This particular SGS II is GSM, which is exactly like the international SGS II sans LTE. This means that porting stuff from their phone to this phone is going to be much more simple than, say, porting it to the Sprint one (which is cdma). You'll start seeing ports to this phone from the international version very soon.
So GSM + great hardware = good development eventually. It's very new though so be patient. The Epic Touch has been out two months and our development forums have just started to kick and show some promising work, so don't get discouraged!
I've never been impressed with either MIUI or CM7, personally. That is just my opinion and I have used them both.
I think this device has devs pushing forward on ROMs that aren't MIUI and CM7 maybe give them a shot you might be surprised.

Yes clocked at 1.5 ghz. But still a great phone. I love it. Much more then the og gs2 i had for a month
There's also an international version of this phone too, right (SGS2 LTE)? It came out half a year or so after the OGSGS2.
So, maybe developer support will come pick up steam after a few more months?
Thats the hd lte your talking about. Its different but japan just got a skyrocket
Cool, you guys have convinced me to stick with this one! Thanks for all the responses.

Why do you like this so much more than the OG GS2?
Becaude of the people on our forum, i cant stress enough to have a forum with people who want to help and add to the betterment of our device. Also the 4.5 inch display, and lte ive got over 60mbps download. My comcast highspeed cable internet is only 18.

It is nice to have a forum full of active folks. Even if there aren't as many as some of the most popular phones, a dedicated community can usually draw the attention of some of the bigger dev groups.

Honestly, it's good as it is, because I don't want quanities of ROM's, I want quality ROM's.
That being said, with slayher working on CM9, and our device being literally identical to the T-Mobile SGS II except for the LTE radio (which adding our personal radio fixes), we shant not worry.
Plus, we have 2 devs on the horizon, and we have dev rotation, so devs will be getting our device soon.

There should be 2: an HD LTE and regular LTE. It would've been nice if ATT skipped the regular LTE version and gave us the HD LTE instead.
Oh well, it's all good. I'm still really enjoying my Skyrocket.

If AT&T had done that...
1. Murder GNexus sales.
2. Make all the AT&T SGS II guys hop, it has the new Exynos 4212 SoC.
3. Get amazingly huge development.
I've been debating on upgrading to the Skyrocket from my HTC Inspire. One of the things holding me back is this topic. I'm sure there are some great devs working on the Skyrocket, I just don't know any of them. Who are the two you all mentioned on the horizon?

Top GSIII Features to Port

With the announcement of the GS III and the nice new additions to its software I'm really excited for system dumps so our guys can start porting the features.
TouchWiz Nature, All Cast, NFC file sharing, and the coolest feature to me is being able to play a video and simultaneously use many other features of the phone.
Do you guys think our trusty skyrocket can handle it?
What features are you excited for I know our guys will do their best to get as many features that can possibly work on our phone of choice. Having the skyrocket I am not even as excited as I thought I'd be about the announcement. We really do have a great phone.....

Would "NFC file sharing" not be the same as "Android Beam"? I play video and do other things at the same time with the skyrocket already. But I'm guessing extreme multitasking would have more to do with the quadCore of the GSIII and that cannot be ported over. The other things you mentioned I have never experienced.
I agree with the OP. would be very nice to see these features ported over. As far as our phone not being able to handle the multitasking, I have no doubt in my mind it will.
Samsung is doing the typical Apple stratagy. Update a phone, bring out a ton of software improvements that force you to upgrade. Great part about owning a Android phone is that I think it will be easier then it seems to port this to the S2. Smart on Samsungs part but our devs are smarter

What improvements are you talking about? Until the phone is actually in someone's hand it will be difficult to tell, but from what I see, there isn't much a hardware difference (with exception to the QuadCore) from the SkyRocket so I'm not sure how ICS on the GSIII would be any different than ICS on the SkyRocket.
Could you explain the improvements?

I guess what I was trying to say is the S3 has all these new "S" features. Plus all of the software enhancements.
I also have a S2, did the upgrade, and its pretty much the identical interface as gingerbread.
In order for Samsung to encourage new buyers would be to NOT include these features to older phones, and keep it strictly to the latest devices.
I believe our phones, although not quad core can run all of the native apps the S3 has with ease.
Visit engadget.com and look at some of their reviews of the phone. The screen and processor are the best to date. But is it worth a upgrade? Personally I don't think it is. What application out there has every not ran on our Skyrockets? Unless its for bragging purposes. Which I can totally understand lol
That didn't answer the question what features exactly what are you looking for

The feature "pop-up-play" is referring to the situation where a video you are watching pops up to front of interface and stays there no matter what you are doing like messaging or navigating home screens. Its like the ice cream sandwich youtube widget in a way but with a video actually playing and moveable to wherever you need it on your screen. 100% Real multitasking.

Just quad core? That's it? Its a quad core with LTE radio built in, not like ours. That is a huge deal right there. The 2100 battery bump ... not a small deal. Upgraded MALI is a HUGE difference.
When you move from underneath to top, the screen is way way better too.
Dude don't downplay things that are clearly beyond you.
As for features in software, the camera app got a huge ass overhaul so I think we can benefit from that greatly and the gesture based calling.

You all are aware that there is a North American dual core version, right? LTE still isn't working with Quad Core devices, afaik.
that having been said, it means porting over the goodies from the S3 should be feasible once we all have OTA ICS. The Skyrocket is still an absolute monster in terms of potential. i've heard that they've recently figured out a way to OC our processors to run 3.1 safely. Any conflicts should be able to be worked around by someone who knows what they're doing.
My opinion? the s3 is just a placeholder until crApple releases the iClone5, then Sammy will deliver the TKO.

The spec sheet says 4G. Now depending on what countries marketing you look at, that means LTE. Also by definition it means LTE.
In addition, the phone is supposed to be LTE capable. Also, he said AFAIK, which doesn't mean that its fact.

LTE = Long Term Evelution
4G does NOT mean LTE unless it is specified as "4GLTE". 4G is and has always had a variety of meanings but for AT&T it means "HSPA+ with advanced backhaul. You know AT&T...the network that sells the Skyrocket? SkyRocket... you know the forum you are posting in?
I live in the USA...you know, the country that the SkyRocket is sold in? So it doesn't really matter how they sell the international version of the GSIII, we will get the USA (North American) variant. And this post is about porting over software from the GSIII to the Skyrocket.
It's clear that any advice would be wasted on you. And it is also clear that you go from thread to thread trying to pick fights. However, you will have to find someone else to pick one with because this is the last reply you will get from me and hopefully, the thread can get back on target. Goodnight.

I'm not trying to find fights at all. Also, regardless of what your stupid American marketing says 4G means LTE. Officially it is the standard adopted by the entire world by the GSMA
You can read about it here: http://www.informationweek.com/news/203101622
Now if your done arguing facts you'd remind yourself that Samsung is not an American company so when they say 4G, they aren't talking about HSPA only per se (unconfirmed because nobody has the phone).
For you to think otherwise is just plain ignorant and last time I checked just because skyrocket was brand name given to the North American model doesn't mean those are the only people here and AT&T is the only carrier that we need to look at. Skyrocket isn't sold in the USA either, it is sold in several other countries with a different name, your self centered view hinders you from seeing that though.
Lastly, I did make proper suggestions about what would be cool to port over so I was on topic prior to all of this, if you actually read then you would know that, just like you'd know more about the phone you hold and the standards you use.
Now quit being ignorant and stop thinking I'm trying to pick a fight.

No LTE in the version you were looking at in the press event. It's an HSPA+ version. LTE will come later.
So like other Galaxy...we will have to wait to see what comes across the pond. And unless Samsung has some magic up their sleeves, nobody has any knowledge as of yet of a Exynos processor that can work with an LTE radio. And I'll be honest, if they had one waiting, I kinda think they would have mentioned it. No reason to NOT announce that the LTE will be quad-core with all the rumors flying that it won't be.

Your right. No LTE as of yet. Doesnt matter for most people in Canada anyways. I think in Ontario only Toronto and Ottawa has it, the rest of the province is stuck with HSPA+.
Every time I hear "4G" it makes me chuckle. HSPA+ is the same as HSPA, only difference being "mimo" technology. Therefore, it is still 3G.
That being said, the only technology thats "true 4G" would then be LTE.
