[SOLVED] Cannot use fastboot to install CWM - HTC Desire S

Hi,
I have a Desire S with the following information
Code:
SAGA PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-0.98.0000
RADIO-38.03.02.15_M
eMMC-boot
Mar 10 2011,14:58:38
FASTBOOT USB
...
When I tried to install CWM, I got the following error:
Code:
C:\>fastboot flash recovery cwm-4.0.1.4-saga.img
sending 'recovery' (4346 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.735s]
writing 'recovery'...
FAILED (remote: not allowed)
finished. total time: 0.757s
Please help. Thanks!

Solution: I successfully changed to ENG with the HBOOT downloaded from http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1113820
After that, successfully flashed the recovery from revolutionary's page using
Code:
fastboot flash recovery <recovery_file_name.img>
(*) remember to remote the <> sign

If I recall correctly you need to upgrade to the ENG bootloader first
Swyped from my Desire S using xda Premium

Could you please help tell how to do that?
Thanks a lot!

The same way You were doing the recovery install.... Search for the hboot 0.98.2000 the rename the img to hboot.img (for simplicity) and place it with your fastboot flies, then boot your phone into fastboot and run the command;
fastboot flash hboot hboot.img
I'm unsure if this will help you, I'm just explaining how to change your hboot, but it shouldn't do any harm.

As you are soff you should be able to simply update to the ENG 98.2 using the following method
1) Copy the ZIP file containing hboot ENG to PG88IMG.zip into root of SD card
2) reboot into Bootloader, and answer yes when prompted where the PG88IMG will be updated.

But, when I enter RECOVERY from HBOOT, it is still same - blackout, then vibrate, then the white screen with HTC - forever

[RESOLVED] Did I kill my phone ? catch-22

Hi,
After running with revolutionary and my rooted stock rom 1.47.401.4, I got yesterday a new OTA with 2.10.401.4 (2.3.5 and sense 3).
When trying to install it, it failed (blue android with big "!" on my screen)
First I downgraded my hboot back to 0.98.0000, but than I did something stupid .
I flash my hboot to the one provided with the OTA 2.00.0002, incl radio and all other stuff from the firmware.zip.
Now I ended up with a *** LOCKED *** HBOOT 2.00.0002, but also a 1.47.401.4 rom with android.
I tried to use the RUU_Saga_HTC_Europe_1.47.401.4_Radio_20.28I.30.085 AU_3805.06.02.03_M_release_199410_signed.exe from windows, but that fails as the hboot has the incorrect version.
THe other thing I could do is go back to a 0.98 HBOOT, but that doesn't work either. the rom is ***LOCKED***, I have no root and it's S-ON.
I also searched for an RUU_Sage_HTC_Europe_*2.10.401.4*.exe as that might work because the HBOOT has the right version, but I could not find anything like that
Does anyone have an idea how I can go forward or how to go back ??
My phone is alive again as used the recovery.img procedure below and installed Saga3D 3.0. After that, I tried also the RUU installation to fully go back to stock, but that doesn't work. It complains about a security failure in hboot screen. I locked it back with 'fastboot oem lock', but that doesn't make the RUU work either.

did u try that or u think that wont work?
Before I updated to 2.00.0002, I created a dd-backup on the sdcard for the 0.98.000
when I however use adb to connect, I don't see how I can restore that back without root. I also didn't see the sdcard mounted
I was also thinking ....
Would it maybe also be possible to create a PG88IMG.zip with all the right software for 1.47.401.4 ? and restore that via recovery ? would the current hboot allow a downgrade ?
Today I was able to get the **LOCKED*** off to UNLOCKED via htcdev.com
In the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1299438
I found this (identical to my problem)
If anyone has the same problem and has hboot-2.00.0002 & S-ON you have to unlock the bootloader via htcdev.com site following all the steps and flash the EXT4 Recovery via FASTBOOT and NOT ADB.!!
Then go to recovery and flash any custom rom.
I don't unserstand what I have to do next. ADB does not work anymore, and only fastboot is available. I downloaded an EXT4 recovery (4EXTRecovery_v2.1.0_saga.zip) which have me an recovery.img and a META-INF folder.
When I name the zip image update.zip, and run
C:\android>fastboot.exe update update.zip
it fails with ...
archive does not contain 'android-info.txt'
archive does not contain 'android-product.txt'
error: update package has no android-info.txt or android-product.txt
How to I proceed to get it working ?
BTW, HBOOT is UNLOCKED but still S-ON
Please help
you already update hboot right. try this
RUU_Saga_S_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.5_Radio_20.4801.30. 0822U_3822.10.08.04_M_release_219480_signed

You can RUU with that correct version or follow my instructions to achieve custom recovery/rom since you are already "unlocked":
Skanob said:
You should be able to change your recovery without any problem if your s-off or unlocked 2.xx.xx hboot s-on.
1. Get 4ext recovery.img
2. connect phone on fastboot
3. In cmd use these command to push the recovery image:
fastboot flash recovery D:\recovery.img (<- should be directory of 4ext recovery image)
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Now you should have 4ext recovery.

From here on you can now flash custom ROMs that you would like that is compatible to Desire S.

The new HBOOT 1.03 is already S-ON. You can change it's state from LOCKED to UNLOCKED and back to RELOCKED using fastboot commands.
i not tested with this hboot 1.03, unlikely...
You cannot downgrade from HBOOT 1.03 to HBOOT 1.02 (or earlier).

No, but I know how to remove those.
High level, not for noobs, and certainly not step by step noobs will look for:
install cwm
update the mainver in the misc partition to 1.11.111.1 from cwm (dump/hex edit, reflash required)
back up the current ROM with cwm
relock the bootloader
make a goldcard
flash an aria RUU with a 1.02.1002 hboot.
run revolutionary
restore your gratia rom from cwm backups.
Please attach hboot 1.03 I will try to patch it for Gratia, thanks!

Hi there,
I have a HTC Aria with Hboot 0.57 and S-ON. I rooted this a while ago and I've been running the Liberated Aria ROMS 2.1 and 2.2.
I want to take S-OFF, but it seems like the only way available is for me to install the official ROM update from AT&T and then use Revolutionary to re-root it and take S-OFF.
Can I use this method for going to Hboot 1.02 and the AT&T official update? and then use revolutionary?
If not, what should I do? (also I have difficulties accessing a windows computer, I primarily use GNU/Linux. If there are instructions for it, that would be swell... I know revolutionary has a linux version, so all is good there).
Thanks

No, you should not use the method described in this thread. Unrevoked does not modify the HBOOT or give you S-OFF, so the instructions in this thread do not apply to you.
To update to HBOOT 1.02, the only thing you need to do is run the RUU to update your phone. Since the RUU is only available as a Windows executable, you can use this alternative method to install it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18541475&postcount=145 . This will erase all your settings from the device, so make a Nandroid backup first if you want to save them.
Once you have completed those steps, you can then use Revolutionary on your device. If you made a backup, you can restore it after Clockworkmod is reinstalled.
No, if fails with hboot 1.03. Is possible to revert to hboot 1.02? Any idea?

Help with hboot 1.23.0000

hello guys i was trying to root my friends sensation...but i messed up halfway....i s-offed using revolutionary.....but i flashed a wrong pg58img as a recovery....and now my phone shows
LOCKED
Pyramid.....s-off
hboot 1.23.0000
and so on
so guys i want to know is there any way that i can still root the phone and run custom recovery and roms????
Please help
Thanks
Root by flashing the latest superuser binary from androidsu using recovery.
If you don't yet have recovery, flash that first (either clockwork or ext4) using pmg58.img in bootloader.
Then flash desired rom. The ***locked*** just means you can't use advanced fast boot commands.

HBOOT 1.23.0000 S-off
Hi Guys, Have you found any solution concerning the hboot 1.23.0000? i am stuck with it with S-off ...
i've tried to flash the latest version of super user and still the same, the PG58IMG.zip fail to update ...
- instal stock rom with unsecured Boot.img http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1201697&highlight=real+stock+experience / recovery /
- flash boot.img from stock rom
Put boot.img inside adb folder in same place your fastboot.exe
Start cmd as administrator and navigate to ADB folder which includes fastboot.exe as and type "fastboot flash boot boot.img" and press enter
restart phone / fastboot /
- now use Unlimited.io JoupunutBear

I'm in the same boat as I followed EdyyOS's guide to install ICS OTA. So I have S-OFF and HBOOT 1.27.0000 but I'm not rooted or have CWM. I can't use Rom Manager as I don't have root. When I try to follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300 there seems to be something missing as I can't get the recovery to install the CWM files it links to.
Also on HBOOT it says in pink locked but I am S-Off.
I've attached 2 files to this post. The first is a PG58IMG.zip for the latest non-touch version of CWM. The second is for the current version of 4EXT
To flash, put the file you want to use first rename it to PG58IMG.zip (not PG58IMG.zip.zip) and put it on the root of your SD card and boot into HBOOT. It will ask you if you want to update so just select yes and it'll flash the recovery. Once done, press power to reboot and voila - you now have CWM/4EXT!
Thanks again Eddy!

I see what my problem was now, your android-info.tx files contained modelid: PG5813001. The ones from the guide had modelid: PG5813000. Kept giving me a model ID error.
Get 4Ext Recovery. It's got an amazing amount of features AND it's touch.
Install 4ext recovery control. The application is free and there is on the market. With this application it is very easy to flash 4ext touch recovery.
Conflict?
I have CMW and just installed 4ext. will they have conflict?
4EXT over writes CWM, so no
There will be no problem.
4EXT all the way

I was unable to flash the hboot i would just get an error. I fixed my problem about 30 seconds ago by supercid the phone which allowed me to flash Juopunutbear Hboot and then recovery took me 8 hours to figure it out but i was determined.
