New thread for Android 5.0 Jelly Bean - Android General

Everyone's waiting for Android 5.0 Jelly Bean to release
Post replies with some of the features u would like Google to include in Jelly Bean
Sent from my Blade using xda premium

Well if I am not mistaken, I read somewhere in an article that Jelly Bean will support that Windows can be booted beside it. Now that would be epicsauce.

Multitasking gestures. Google hired Matias Duarte, and yet they failed to take the best feature if webos: multitasking gestures. Its far more intuitive than virtual buttons, I think we can all agree
Webtop: android, booting from the phone, on a desktop. 'Nuff said
Multi-threading: I don't know that android allows multi threaded applications, but I could be wrong.
As for booting next to windows, I think that is already possible, unless the Android boot loader is more aggressive than GRUB

I remember somewhere that there are some real amazing features coming that were left out of ICS. also heard its focusing on gaming.

I'm pretty sure it does, at least since ICS. If not, the multi-core devices that have been dropping for the last couple of months wouldn't have much to do.

Hey can't wait!
Man my Ace does not even have cm7 officaly yet and the ACESOME devs are nearly done with cm9 AWE but down to the point I heard that Jelly Bean might be the ICS for lower end devices after Samsung taked Google on because the High powered GalaxyS won't get ICS.So realy hope Jelly Bean will be more ICS for the people wit an ACEMAZING phone

I think Google chrome official is needed to, don't y'all agree?

Yup the main problem with putting ICS on the SGS is a problem with the cash flow that the update would cause, this would result in negative performance for Samsung so they scrapped the update.
Anywho I really look forward to JB i feel ICS was the bridge and JB being whats on the other side

Newbie-friendly installer for custom ROMs - Google really needs to embrace the power that is our ecosystem
Advanced settings - allow anal users to customize everything, from the number of apps in the dock to the buttons at the bottom, without having to get custom ROMs/launchers.

here's one for you;
video calling functionality, using 4g or wifi to handle the video stream on a side channel.
Idea being that while google talk and skype and other IM apps may offer video chatting, you need someone's IM screen name to make that happen.
It is about time for that functionality to be available in a phone call

Kinda like facetime
Hmmm
Not bad

I just wish Google would be a little more transparent on these matters. I have been hearing about majel for so long now and I suppose I should have figured that it would be for ICS or above, but to find that it is just for JellyBean really sucks. Their website says that it is "currently" only for 4.1 . Does that mean it will be made available for older OS's? Is this being done just to sell more new phones? Come on Google, just tell us what your plans are.
its most likely for 4.1 only...
even though it has already been ported to 4.0 and its semi working on my galaxy sii.
I cant wait to get 4.1, working google now, working offline voice recognition and it working in my language (dutch)
We can't port all JB goods to ICS or GB Because of kernel.

If any of you remember the early days of Android, Google did the same thing once before. When the original Droid was launched, it was the first Eclair device and launched with Maps Navigation. All those of us with the G1 (or other devices running Donut) were left drooling and wondering why Navigation was a 2.0 exclusive feature. Then, a month or two later, the update was added to the Market for us all. And there was much rejoicing.
Soooooo...here's hoping they do the same with Now. Maybe it's 4.1 only for now so they can iron out bugs? Who knows. But they seem really determined to make Now a hit, so it wouldn't surprise me to see it eventually released for older OS versions.

Try Maluuba from the Play Store or utter!. Maluube has more of a Now feel and utter! is more for device control. I use both (Maluuba much, much more) on Gingerbread and they are both extremely fast. They beat out S*** on the i***** in both number of functions and speed. Both are reliable. Enjoy!

If your on Gingerbread, I think it's worth it to upgrade to JB if any developers support your rom. You'll probably see major deferences in ways such as battery life, UI Beauty, etc..

But unfortunatelly none of this actually work. Can not even trigger utter to listen my command.
This is either a problem with user setting configuration, or is due to the fact that the application is still in beta. Try messing. With the settings. The way it is normally triggered is by holding the search key down.
And maluuba pretty much never has problems... Trouble shoot a little and try to figure it out. I'd like to help, just I don't have enough info to go off of to help.

If what you want is just the Jelly Bean look, then I'd suggest installing a Launcher replacement app like Go Launcher EX (the best IMO) or ADW, etc. and finding a Jelly Bean theme. This could probably give you all of the interface eye candy, but unfortunately, none of the real benefits of actually running Jelly Bean.
If you're wanting some of the actual benefits of Jelly Bean then this would require installing the Jelly Bean operating system update on your Galaxy Tab. At the moment the only way this could be done is with a "rom"- i.e. an unofficial version of the OS that would require you to know how to root your device and install some third party software that, while easy for a some who are experienced with tinkering with these devices, it is definitely not something for a noob to just try. You have a decent chance of rendering your Tab inoperable- bricking it. If your really do want to attempt rooting and rom'ing, then you've come to no better a place. Read around this forum and if a good Jelly bean rom exists, you'll find it and help installing here. But remember, that even if you do get a good rom up and running, you still don't have a 1.2ghz quad-core tegra 3 CPU and GPU, 1280x800 IPS screen, GPS that actually works, etc...... so keep your expectations reasonable.
Good luck, I hope this helped!
Instead of messing with the guts of your tab's OS,
I mean can i get the user interface nexus 7 like, such as on top notification bar. I know using some launcher will work, but which launcher and how to alter/change the launcher interface like nexus 7 ui.
I have try go launcher, and it's not working well. Can nova or apex launcher customized into this interface?

Post ICS launch, which ROM are you using and Why. ICS or JB

First, thanks to the Devs working on the CM9 and CM10 ROMs. They are looking good.
I just wanted to see which ROMs you guys were using primarily now. I jumped from GB right to CM10 from dr4stic. I'm pretty happy with it so far.
Are you guys using JB, or sticking with a flavor of ICS?
I'm using Blaz3r 4.0.4 by ptmr3 and I couldn't be happier. I like TouchWiz, and a lot of the stock widgets so this one fits me just fine.
Oh that's right, I forgot about TouchWiz
Stock ICS by tthaz777, I love it. I miss Tweaked (GB), but I want to run ICS and need wi-fi calling. I also loaded CM10 but downgraded back to 4.0.4
CM 10 great built ROM with no bugs and a full jelly bean experience!

I've been using Blaz3r since it came out with Apex over top with perfect keyboard n compact qwerty mode. Drove 300 miles today used GPS, Looked at Google now 20 times to see how far away I was from home. I used the bluetooth to talk and play some tunes as well. I really like using a stock camera and the Samsung messaging is sweet. Only thing I can say if you use this, it seemed to take longer than 10 minutes to settle in ( I also have gone back and fixed permissions when adding apps) +1

Funny that I used ...ahem... used to have a skinomi screen protector on my Blaze but for some reason after 2 months in it started developing weird bubbles/lines that weren't present even days after installation so I took it off. That was over a month ago now and no scratches. I'm unsure if gorilla glass is used on this phone as I can't find any conclusive evidence on what it is. Maybe I got a bad skinomi, as my old exhibit and my wife's sensation have skinomi's and are still perfect. Just make sure you are ready and have the phone spotless or you will see those same dust spots for a long time lol.

I was really impressed with CM10 but sadly the random MAC address issue along with the lack of wifi calling (a CM issue in general) made me go back to Blaz3r. I'm sure CM10 development will chug along and it's hard to deny the feel of it - I may be going back to it soon (especially once hardware key notifications are fixed - I miss a notification light). You will have bugs/slowdowns on Blaz3r until getting titanium on it solely to remove Nova launcher. A reinstall of nova fixes it and I'm sure this is something that will be fixed (along with adding a default music player) with the next version. There are a few customization options but I would like more - kind of like the amount of customization options in DK on GB lol Development overall is really great here and there are plenty of options considering how long it's been since source dropped.

Mulitple Users

Hi All
I am new here so please bare with me.
I have a Samsung Note 10.1 Model GT-N8010 running Android 4.1.2
I was under the impression that the new update (4.1.2) would allow the ability to setup a 2nd user profile.
I can not seem to find the setup process.
If someone can help I would be grateful.
Many Thanks
I think you need to wait for 4.2.1 for multi-user.

you can use SwitchMe ( Root Required)
available on Google Play Store
Jb 4.2 isn't available from Samsung yet. Even if it was, i wouldn't touch it. The latest update to JB 4.2 still hasn't fixed the bluetooth issue that Google introduced with 4.2. Breaking bluetooth was a pretty bad coding glitch and releasing it to the public just plain sloppy. At times, Google looks as bad as MS.
I think your right, thanks for the help.

Anyone using ICS still?

I'm wondering just in case GB starts to lose support from app developers. I'd like to know if ics is 100% stable at this point, and all features work. I'm all about stability and having everything work the way it was intended.
Bling is cool, as long as it doesn't introduce glitches and hitches.

Well, GB is pretty dead too, according to some here. But at least it's 100% stable. (at least the revenant rom is) But after perusing the JB threads, it would seem that there are still issues to be ironed out. It may be "good enough" for some, but good enough is not good enough for me.
I guess it looks like I'll be staying with GB for as long as possible. The only reason I upgraded to GB was because some apps no longer work on Froyo.
If you actually flash a Jb ROM I'm willing to bet you won't find something you use daily that has any issues I'm using carbon nightly and I don't have any issues....honestly GB doesn't have really any features I couldn't be on GB anymore

OK, please elaborate more. On JB, does flash work? GPS? And what go you mean GB doesn't have any features? I mean, GB works 100% as far as apps and functionality so I'm confused. It does what I ask it to. What would JB give me that GB doesn't? Are you talking about bells and whistles?

I still use GB. I would not describe myself as a heavy user though. I use the phone mostly for the call, text and camera function.
I like my gmail, calendar and contacts sync'ed.
I don't have all the fb, twitter etc
When I tested out JB, I found a few things I liked:
1. gtalk updated better.
2. gmail had other options. Scrollable widget. Calendar had scrollable widget also. Calendar has more detailed display
3. Chrome worked. Native Browser was better.
4. Google body (now defunct-ed) worked..it needed a 3.0+ platform.
5. I don't use it but others like the theme engine.
6. The weather update on the lock screen was a nice touch.
7. The quick launch from the lock screen was neat...although I don't usually use the lock screen.
8. Back up and restore apps is more comprehensive.
9. Google Now and Google Keep is neat to try.
There were others but I forget...
For my phone, I still like the simpler GB interface and the battery life (less processes running means less battery usage)
fwiw, Entropy said his cm9 was stable..and "dead" too. Supposedly he had a more updated one but never release. Supposedly, aremo/he may have a different cm10?..I'm not sure though...
My final thoughts...to each his own...find something that you like...
